Believing in “a metaverse without restraining walls,” Animoca Brands and other blockchain-based platforms such as Decentraland and The Sandbox have come together to form the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3 (OMA3).

The organization proposes to connect multiple virtual worlds and Web3 platforms in a frictionless way. Currently, the blockchain industry faces challenges in interoperability, and OMA3 is excited to make your experience from one platform to another more seamless.

Essentially, the “open metaverse” envisioned by OMA3 will establish a unified set of Web3 standards and infrastructure. This way, you as a user can freely bring your blockchain-based assets, such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), to any virtual world belonging to OMA3. Plus, the alliance wants you to experience this feature in real-time, without needing permission from the platforms you’re using. That would literally mean you’d be the one in control of your digital assets, not the platform owners.

Freely Roaming in an Open Metaverse

“This is exciting!” Voxels lead developer Benjamin Larcher exclaimed about OMA3. “At Voxels we firmly believe in a Metaverse where people can freely move across multiple worlds and platforms, bringing their friends and NFTs with them!”

Voxels, formerly CryptoVoxels, is among the founding members of the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3.

Meanwhile, The Sandbox co-founder and COO, Sebastian Borget, gave an illustration of how the OMA3 standards, after being implemented, could impact user experience.

“For example, we want your Avatar can be more than just a virtual representation and also carries your reputation as anyone can see on-chain which NFTs you hold, earned, created, or bought, the full history of transactions, and as well hopefully, the progression/actions you have contributed to throughout time.”

Based on this statement, OMA3 aims at unifying all your experiences across all blockchain apps. If executed well, this could bring in more new users, as it makes metaverse games more appealing to our not-so-techy but curious friends.

OMA3 is a Consortium-like DAO

True to its vision, OMA3 is also establishing itself as a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). This setup will ensure that the alliance will be “transparent and user-centric.” Since it’s open to businesses and financial institutions, the Open Metaverse Alliance will function more like a consortium.

Specifically, OMA3 will operate according to the core principles of transparency, inclusiveness, interoperability, and standardization. Naturally, it will also empower individual users through decentralization and democratization.

On its website, OMA3 highlights the following projects they’re now working on:

  • Interoperability protocols
  • Cross-platform standards (in NFTs, for example)
  • Transferable metaverse identities
  • Definition and promotion of decentralization and ownership rights within the metaverse
  • Mapping, indexing, and wrapping portals between worlds

Open Metaverse Alliance Members

Among the leading blockchain-based platforms joining OMA3 are Animoca Brands, The Sandbox, Decentraland, and Dapper Labs. Meanwhile, Alien Worlds, Star Atlas, and Voxels are also founding members. Embracing the same vision, Decentral Games and MetaMetaverse, along with Space, Superworld, Upland, and Wivity, have signed all signed up. These founding OMA3 members are also inviting other blockchain-based companies to join the alliance.

Satoshiverse, an NFT collection, has turned its non-fungible tokens into Linked Wearables that can now be used in Decentraland. Linked wearables are 3D models of NFT that do not belong to Decentraland, but external NFT collections can be used in Decentraland as in-world wearables for the first time. The Linked Wearables feature was added to Decentraland in April as a part of a DAO proposal.

Linked Wearables are 3D models of NFTs that can be used as in-world wearables in a metaverse and can be equipped by an avatar. These wearables have no rarity and cannot be sold on external markets. They are just representations of an external NFT in a metaverse world. NFTs can be converted to Linked Wearables for free and can be done by third-party applications approved by the DAO.

To convert your NFT, you must register your NFTs as Linked Wearables by submitting a proposal in the Decentraland Builder section. This application will allow users to upload 3D models of their NFTs, create wearable collections, link wearables with actual NFTs, and then enjoy the brand new Linked Wearables in Decentraland.

Satoshiverse Linked Wearables Collection

How Satoshiverse became the first collection of Linked Wearables on Decentraland?

Satoshiverse is the first NFT collection that made it through the Linked Wearables curation process. The NFTs of Satoshiverse will be the first ones to be mapped as Linked Wearables on Decentraland. Through this project, people will get to know more about Satoshiverse and will create a more accessible place for the NFTs to reach people. Satoshi’s Legionnaires NFTs will be accessible in Decentraland. These Legionnaires are custom-made 3D suits created by comic book artist Jose Delpo and Apollo NFT studios. Users can wear suits as Wearables in Decentraland and show off people their costumes.

Nick, the founder of the Satoshiverse Co-Founder, emphasized his enthusiasm for the project, adding that “it was the culmination of all his passions that led him to the Decentraland and Satoshiverse team.”

On June 17th, a Satoshiverse and Decentraland Linked Wearables Party was hosted in which wearables were airdropped to existing Satoshiverse holders. Both the teams are currently working on a headquarters feature in Decentraland where NFT holders can meet for various activities.

Decentraland Virtual World

Advantages of Linked Wearables in Decentraland

This is the first time the interoperability support has been provided to Decentraland. Owners of Linked Wearables can wear and show them off in the metaverse. Through this project, people will learn more about Decentraland and become a part of this metaverse. People will get the chance to talk to each other and hang out with friends through these Linked Wearables. NFT owners of a specific community of NFTs can socialize with each other due to the same Linked Wearables. In the future, Decentraland can also host community events or be a place for headquarters for different communities where people can come and stream music together or participate in different activities.

Being the largest web-based decentralized blockchain-based metaverse with over 500k monthly users, Decentraland is the perfect platform for NFT companies to release new NFT connections through Linked Wearables that will increase awareness. For example, suppose you see your friend in the metaverse wearing a cool brand new linked wearable; you will want to know more about it and eventually buy the NFT linked to the wearable.

About Satoshiverse NFTs?

Satoshiverse is a comic universe developed for blockchain by Jose Delbo and Apollo NFT studios. The Satoshiverse includes 3D animated next-generation avatars called Legionnaires. About 10,000 3D-generated NFTs with a programmatically generated soundtrack make Satoshi’s Legions the most complex avatar project. Collectors of the NFTs will be able to use the 3D avatars in other existing blockchain metaverses and exclusive contests. Legionnaires also have access to the Satoshiverse P2E game and will be able to use the NFTs within the game.

Playcheck games confirmed a complete shutdown of Battle Racers coming February 16th, 2022. All versions of the game, including the one in Decentraland, will be discontinued, and the company itself will stop operating.

The browser version, Decentraland game, and mobile app will all be discontinued on February 16th, 2022. The team will stop supporting the game and will disable all centralized servers where the gameplay data resides.

Battle Racers Shutting Down: What is Going to Happen Next

The developers confirmed the $SCRAP tokens will remain in players’ wallets, however, it will not be publicly listed on decentralized exchanges nor have any in-game functionality due to the shutdown.

Car parts and vehicles will be retained, and full ownership will be guaranteed to all participants. Playcheck is making sure all smart contracts are validated before the shutdown, so other games will be able to accept NFTs coming from Battle Racers.

Ultimately, the only way for the game to survive will be in the hands of other decentralized applications and/or metaverses.

The Discord server will remain open for questions until the closing date, then, it will turn into read-only mode and could eventually be shut down permanently.

Conclusions

Like a lot of early days internet phenomenas, a lot blockchain games are doomed to fail, and it looks like Battle Racers was one of them.

Although the team is promising to uphold their dues and guarantee NFT ownership, all assets on OpenSea dramatically decreased in value (floor price < 0.001ETH), their token is in none of the decentralized exchange. Their player base is furious on Discord, Twitter, and Medium, calling them out for giving up on supporting the game.

We don’t know the real reasons behind the shutdown, but it seems to be related to maintaining the centralized servers running. The team was not able to afford to pay for it anymore, and couldn’t find a way to do so.

Best of luck to all Battle Racers players, and we suggest you play the game now until the closing date to enjoy your NFTs, possibly for the last time.

What is Battle Racers

Battle Racers is an action-packed arcade game where you build, race, and battle model cars on arcade-sized tracks. Players in Battle Racers can collect car parts by opening crates, race in their favorite tracks, and compete for the top prizes.

Development of the game started three years ago, and Battle Racers was in the Metalympics of 2020. The game runs on the Ethereum Blockchain and their token is $SCRAP. It’s been in early access for a bit in their browser version and has been playable on Decentraland.

The Deadfellaz NFT community is one of the latest to announce their move into the metaverse, as they will move into Decentraland and The Sandbox. The NFT project has gotten some media attention as of late after Elijah Wood became part of their community. There will be Deadfellaz NFT characters in The Sandbox and the team plans a token-gated Halloween party in Decentraland.

October supposedly will be a big month for Deadfellaz NFT holders, because this is spooky month of course. I just want to be clear now that I don’t own a Deadfellaz NFT. This news post is really meant to gauge the interest in covering NFT collections as part of our regular coverage, especially when there’s something ‘gaming’ involved.

The Halloween party inside Decentraland will be called Deadfellaz: Infected, which will take place at the 24-plot estate the team acquired within Decentraland. This district will become a home for the horde, a dark Gotham-inspired city. The party will take place on October 29th and is only accessible to those with certain NFTs in their wallet, including Ghxsts, Cool Cats, KidEight and many others.

In addition there’s the move into The Sandbox. Whether that will be ready during the Halloween party seems questionable, but the Deadfellaz team is working to get something started. At the very least there will be Deadfellaz zombie characters.

Bloktopia Aims to Become Social Education Hub

Posted on  by Robert Hoogendoorn

A new virtual world has entered the metaverse, as Bloktopia aims the become a social education hub for those interested in crypto and blockchain technology. The virtual world of Bloktopia will introduce and teach people about blockchain and crypto, while also allowing users to play games and earn some tokens.

This virtual world, again wrongly dubbed a metaverse, will have a native token called BLOK. Users will be able to purchase virtual real-estate inside Bloktopia. But of course they can stake their BLOK, or use BLOK to advertise their business. Users will be able to create locations, showcase artworks, design challenges, all using a simple builder tool. For more advanced designer there will be an SDK to fill the world of Bloktopia with social games and applications.

Bloktopia will have land sales, and each piece of real-estate is an NFT. The first sale will happen after the token distribution event of BLOK. Users can build and trade, or lease their land for passive income. Other good news for BLOK token holders, as they will receive a share of the in-world advertising revenue. BLOK will go for sale through an IDO at with $0.00025 price tag on Red Kite, Seedify, 0xBull and Trustpad on October 5th and 6th.

Last week Blocktopia already announced a $4.2 million investment round led by Animoca Brands, with financial support from influencers like Jake Paul, Crypto Wendy and Ben “Bitboy Crypto” Armstrong. In addition companies like Polygon, Kucoin and Travala have put money behind Bloktopia, so we already know about some of the services that will appear inside the world: booking your holidays, making trades and showcasing NFTs.data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==

So, metaverse, what is this metaverse?

The metaverse is everywhere. It’s all around us. Even now, on this very website. You can see it when you swap your tokens. You can experience it when you visit the Play to Earn Game Festival or when you do some battles in Lunacia. And you can feel it when you work, when you’re shopping on an NFT marketplace, and when you login to a service using your wallet. The metaverse is the world that connects us all.

There are many projects in the blockchain space that I adore for all kinds of reasons. However, some of those projects try to own the term ‘metaverse‘. They say stuff like ‘the metaverse of our game’. That’s wrong. There’s no such thing as a metaverse of one thing. The metaverse is the air we all breath no matter where we go. The metaverse is inclusive, and it doesn’t discriminate or limit. In the metaverse there is no space for walls and borders, because the tools that make the metaverse are there to break those borders down. Those who build walls, ultimately will remove themselves from the metaverse, while the metaverse will just continue without them. The metaverse is open, interoperable and persistent. Let’s get into that a bit deeper.

The virtual world of Decentraland has gone next level with the introduction of quests, which are now part of toolkit for creators. Landowners and designers can make quests that span multiple days and for example reward players with NFTs, wearables or a POAP, proof-of-attendance.

Players who’ve been active in Decentraland, probably remember the Halloween and Christmans seasonal events. These virtual events had quests that had different stages, spread out over multiple days. Every curated and approved creator will now have the ability to add such quests to their land.

Of course Decentraland launched the new feature with a couple of examples. The Decentraland Foundation has made The Drink of the Gods, where players need to find ingredients for an elixir. Simply go to Decentraland’s Genesis Plaza, hit the rocket button and start questing. Keep in mind, Decentraland doesn’t work on mobile, yet.

The second quest was made by DappCraft. In SteamPunk players need to help Anna to fix her watch, and by doing so they will receive a reward. Decentraland has more quests in the making. Creators who want to join the quest making program, need to send the team an email.

Earlier this month Decentraland released the beta of their in-world builder. Now creators don’t need to leave the world to build their land. However, not all features are there yet. The current builder SDK still provides a more complete package, but in the future building will happen entirely in-world.

What is Decentraland?

Decentraland is a virtual world build on the Ethereum blockchain. Consumers can buy land within this world, and build anything. Currently ownership over virtual land is highly speculative, and the value of these lands increased significantly over the past year. Decentraland launched in February 2020, and players can now visit by using a web browser on a desktop or laptop. The game celebrated its first year anniversary last week.

Within Decentraland people can build all kinds of businesses, including shops for in-game items, art galleries and games. Decentral Games and Metazone are some of the companies that create games within Decentraland. For example, Metazone is selling complete game installations. Landowners can earn money from those creations, while game creators earn a share of the revenue.

In their effort to populate their virtual worlds with user-generated content, Decentraland has launched the beta version of their in-world builder tool. Users who own a piece of land in the virtual world, can see their creations come to life as they build inside Decentraland itself.

Before, users need to build their environment and then upload or deploy it in the world. However, right now users can literally build live within the virtual world itself.

This first iteration of the in-world building tool only provides the minimum features required to create, edit and publish content on a land parcel. However, eventually it will replace the current builder and it will incorporate all features users need to build a museum, theme park or mansion.

Over the past 30 days Decentraland has seen $3,2 million in NFT trading volumes, according to data from DappRadar. The virtual world also made headlines when Coca Cola launched their first NFT inside a venue in the virtual world. Over the past few months, several other organizations have also created their home inside Decentraland. For example, auction house Sotheby’s.

World-famous soda company Coca Cola will join the NFT ecosystem through an event organized in Decentraland. On July 30th there will be a Coca Cola-sponsored event in the virtual world to celebrate International Friendship Day. There will be NFT giveaways during the virtual event.

The Coca Cola Company is planning its NFT loot box, which they will reveal on July 28th. The OpenSea auction will begin at 12:01 am UTC on Friday 30th July and close at 8:00 pm UTC on Monday 2nd August. All proceeds from the auction will go to Special Olympics International.

The Coca Cola event in Decentraland will take place on a giant Coke can. The auction will kick off from the event, while event visitors can win Mythic wearable NFT shirts.

Decentraland attracting brands

Last year Decentraland became a DAO, and now the community makes all the decisions. The Decentraland Foundation is crucial as a frontrunner, and they’ve established some interesting partnerships in the past months. Auction house Sotheby’s opened a virtual version of its London office. In addition several companies acquired land in the virtual world as well. For example, the role playing game Ethermon is even building its 3D gaming ecosystem inside the virtual game world.

Even more important, there have been tests to order pizza from inside Decentraland.

The monster battle RPG Ethermon has announced a build jam event, inviting community members to design the first homes for Ethermon inside Decentraland. The Build Jam Competition offers EMON tokens and land in Decentraland as prizes. The event will start today, June 23th at 2pm CST and will last two weeks until July 7th.

The Ethermon district in Decentraland will play an important role in the game’s universe. It’s the place where houses are, and the main hub for players to start their journey. The developers are seeking the best designers to make awesome houses, and there are no restrictions. The build jam needs to help the Ethermon team to add community designs to their world.

Designers are invited to join the official Discord. Also, those who design something should also tweet about it using the hashtag #buildtoearn. The Ethermon devs also have a bonus reward based on community votes.

Play Ethermon to earn EMON

Ethermon will introduce the EMON token, an ERC-20 token, to push their play-to-earn economy. As a result the token can exist on both the Ethereum and the Polygon blockchain. There’s a total supply of 400 million EMON tokens. Gamers can use these tokens to access premium content, and rare, limited and unique digital assets and benefits. Think about for example buying Ethermons, asset packs, cosmetics, equipment, upgrading metas, enhancing gameplay, unlock special areas and the list continues. The developers will even add more utility to the ecosystem in the future.

However, spending a token is one thing. How do you earn EMON tokens? In the game players can earn MARKS, this is an in-game currency that’s not on the blockchain. They can use these MARKS to craft NFTs, burning these NFTs earns players EMON tokens. Crafted NFTs can also be sold on the marketplace for EMON or through player-owned stores. In addition players can earn EMON through questing, adventures, completing gym battles, and in-game tournaments.

Ethermon moving into Decentraland

Ethermon got completely revamped since the project relaunched as Ethermon Awakening back in 2019. There’s a lot more content, and the game runs on the Polygon blockchain. Now the turn-based battle role playing game is coming the Decentraland, allowing battles and quests in a 3D environment for the first time ever. Ethermon started as a 2D game in 2017, and in the past four years it has developed into a 3D role playing game with its own play-to-earn economy.

Originally the game is a spin-off from the – then popular – game Etheremon, but the new version of the game supports both the old and newer creatures. At the same time a completely new development team took over. The concept of Ethermon will reminds gamers a lot of Pokémon. In the game players need to capture little monsters. These monsters vary in type, generation, form and individual powers. Players own these little monsters and are free to trade them. They can also use these monsters in battle, in which players can earn all kinds of rewards. For example, they can do quests, compete in ranked tournaments, practice or start the adventure mode.

World-famous auction house Sotheby’s has recreated its London New Bond Street galleries in the virtual world of Decentraland. After getting involved in NFT auctions, the renowned auction house now becomes part of the metaverse with their own virtual location.

The virtual version of Sotheby’s London location is placed in Decentraland’s Voltaire Art District (visit: 52,83). The designers copied the physical location brick by brick. The virtual venue features five ground level gallery spaces as well as a non-player character of Sotheby’s London Commissionaire, Hans Lomulder, to greet visitors.

On Thursday Sotheby’s had their Natively Digital NFT auction, while next week they will put CryptoPunk #7523 under the hammer. They will stream the auction from inside Decentraland. Robert Alice will also sell and show an NFT artwork that learns when people speak to it.

The Natively Digital NFT collection features a whole bunch of artists, including FVCKRENDER, Mad Dog Jones, XCOPY, Don Diablo, Pak, Matt Kane and many others. Furthermore, you will find an Autoglyph by Larva Labs in the collection, alongside the earlier mentioned CryptoPunk. In addition there are 19 artworks that have been generated through Art Blocks, would includes Bryan Brinkman’s Nimbud clouds.

Wait, what is an NFT? And what’s NFT art?

Digital art has been around for decades. However, without the existence of blockchain technology it was impossible to verify authenticity and rarity. Now digital art connects to a token on the blockchain, a non-fungible token or NFT. That way buyers can see how many copies of a certain artwork there are, and whether the product is original. We often refer to digital art on the blockchain as crypto art, but NFT art as a name has become increasingly popular.

The concept of seeing a digital image as art, is one thing. However, for many people it will be a challenge to consider digital images valuable. Consider this: The Mona Lisa is worth many millions of dollars. If I would paint the Mona Lisa in an exact copy, it would be worth only 50 dollars. Because we all know where the original version is. Being able to verify the authenticity and rarity of a piece of art is crucial. This applies to NFT art on the blockchain as well.

Some people don’t care about the Mona Lisa. It’s just a painting. They are happy to download an image from Google Images, print it on canvas and hang it in their living room. Others want the real deal. The same rules go up for digital art. Many people will be happy having a digital image they like, screenshotted on their phone. Others will value having an original artwork, minted by the actual creator, verifiable through blockchain technology.

However, it’s not like anybody can just make some shirts and publish them. The Decentraland DAO has formed a Curation Committee to prevent buggy or offensive wearables from appearing inside the virtual world. We could view this as a community-powered quality assurance.

Designing is something everybody can do, following the guidelines provided by Decentraland. Just go to the official Decentraland website, login to your web3 wallet using Metamask and click on the menu item ‘Collections’. Here the uploading process will start, as well as the pricing and naming of the items.

To reduce spam, the Decentraland DAO has decided to implement a fee for publishing wearable items in the Editor. This way they want to discourage and reduce wearable spam. How high the fee will be, is still undecided. However, they did announce that the earnings from those fees will go to the DAO, to fund other community initiatives.

Polygon savior of digital fashion

Even though gas fees at the time of writing aren’t that bad, we’ve seen some outrageous fees in the past few weeks. When users need to pay $50 for a token transfers, things get even more crazy for NFTs. Therefore digital fashion inside Decentraland and Cryptovoxels was suffering. While Decentraland kept things going, Cryptovoxels even removed the options. However, now both of them have found a solution in Polygon.

These virtual worlds aren’t the only ones, as digital fashion organization Digitalax also embraced the sidechain solution. All these companies see Polygon as an ideal scaling solution for digital fashion. Perhaps have them all together on the same blockchain, will also proof to be useful for interoperability in the future.
