REVV Racing, an arcade-style racing game running on the Polygon blockchain, brings us a tournament where only a specific type of car is allowed for each race session. Meaning that player skill, not car abilities, will be the true test.

This tournament runs for 24 hours, beginning on July 14th, 8 am UTC. There will be three different sessions, all running simultaneously. The sessions come in varied weather conditions and lap numbers, so drive wisely. Anyone can participate in the event, but only those driving a REVV Racing Gecko Car can win prizes. These cars are CoinGecko-themed and come in three varieties — Ambition, Blur, and Oji. If you don’t already own one, they are available on OpenSea.

Even though this is a special tournament, races still cost 5 REVV tokens to enter. The top 500 finishers for each session can receive REVV payouts. The sessions have specific Gecko cars that need to be driven to earn prizes for that race.

Each session comes with a reward pool of 60,000 REVV, divided between two groups. Players, those who drive their own cars, and Drivers, those who drive cars for others. Each player can only receive rewards from one of the pools — and they are locked into a pool based on the first tournament race joined.

The pool rewards will also be split based on how many players are in each group. If there are more players in the Player group, for example, then the Player reward pool will be proportionately larger.

Receiving prizes requires completing a KYC (Know Your Customer) verification with REVV Racing. For this, you will need a passport, driving license, or another sort of national identification. After the recent acquisition of Grease Monkey, another studio specializing in motorsport titles, Animoca Brands is expanding its footprint in the genre with this new deal. The recent news of F1 Delta Time shutting down for licensing issues probably pushed Animoca Brands to speed up this deal in order to be able to bring more racing titles to their users.

Eden Games is a respected game development studio featured in the most prominent app stores. Apple even mentioned their latest game, “Gear Club The Game”, in their event held on the 8th of March.

Apple mentioned the game’s latest expansion of the Gear.Club franchise, Gear.Club Stradale, as the “next big release” coming exclusively to Apple Arcade. 

Gear.Club is a hyper-realistic racing simulator that served as the main racing game for World’s Fastest Gamer’s open qualifiers, a first-of-its-kind tournament that transforms motorsport gamers into real-world champions. With over 100 broadcasters in more than 50 countries, World’s Fastest Gamer has over 400 million TV and video on-demand viewers, and they get additional coverage through streaming services.

The company has strong experience working with racing games on mobile, consoles, and desktop platforms. They are the brains behind Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, F1 Mobile racing, and the aforementioned Gear.Club.

Over the years, Eden Games amassed over 60 million downloads, sold 13 million game boxes, and built up a solid reputation. Although they’re not the most social company out there, they do have a Twitter profile to follow up on their latest developments.

Animoca Brands mentioned they were interested in Eden Games thanks to their big network of partners as well. 30 established brands partnered up with the company in order to release 3d models and assets in the games. For example, Porsche, Bugatti, Lotus, and BMW all partnered with Eden Games to build realistic models of their cars.

Animoca Brands will work with Eden Games to solidify and amplify the reach of current games and to bring to market a series of new blockchain-based racing games. If the past is of any use in this situation, we can safely assume Animoca will strongly focus on the mobile market, and will likely commission racing mobile games.

In their press release, Animoca also confirmed the new games will provide additional utility to the NFT Race Passes and the other assets obtained by swapping assets from Animoca Brands’ F1® Delta Time, which ceased operations in March 2022.

F1 Delta Time is part of Animoca Brand’s REVV Motorsport ecosystem which include MotoGP Ingnition, Formula E: High Voltage, REVV Racing and torque Drift. But securing licensing for top motorsport franchises is not an easy task, even for Animoca Brands.

What does it mean for the F1 Delta Time holders and players?

First, the team declared in their Medium article that they will support the current owners of assets and that they will be rewarded for their loyalty and support.

Every F1 Delta Time assets owner will have the following options

• Receive replacement cars for REVV Racing. The replacement cars will have similar rarity and power of the original F1 cars.
• Swap your cars for a Race Pass which can be staked to get access to upcoming mints and airdrops.
• Holders of a Race Pass and REVV Racing assets will be able to stake their assets with a reward pool of 20 million REVV.
• 2019 Crates and 2020 Keys can be bridged to Polygon and staked into a SHRD earning pool. Crates and Keys can also be opened to take advantage of the other options offered.
• Swap your assets for Proxy Assets of similar value and utility within the REVV Ecosystem.
• Event Segments and Track Vouchers will receive monthly REVV payments equal to the average payments per month based on the March to December 2021 data.

Assets Swap Timeline

The full swap offerings will be launched on April 30th. The swap will be open for a 3 month periods closing on July 31st. We might be getting further announcements until then, so stay tuned and follow closely the team’s announcements if you own F1 Delta Time Assets.

Licences in NFT and play-to-earn games

Owning the rights for a sport or brand franchise is definitely a plus for any title. But these licences need to be renewed on a yearly basis. And nobody can guarantee that these licences can or will be renewed. We see here the risk for such licensed titles. While player own their gaming assets, these assets utility depends on the renewal or not of the license they are using. REVV Racing already has some legendary vehicles, but the majority of the cars are simply common cars. Thanks to the newly introduces Fusion System players can upgrade their cars using REVV tokens and a so-called catalyst. The Fusion System starts with the collection metadata tag from each car, for example Holder, Ignition, Sprint King etc. Each of these categories will have their own Fusion Tree or roadmap, defining what the car can ultimately become.

Blueprints, which every car owner has access to, define what players will need to generate a new car. Each collection has a specific blueprint. These blueprints will require crypto tokens (REVV) and NFTs (cars). However, you will also naar a Catalyst, or CATA. This is a new fungible token, primarily used in the Fusion System. You can create CATA through Shards (SHRD), and you can earn SHRD by playing REVV Racing.

Based on the number of laps you’ve driven and length of the tracks, you will earn SHRD tokens. So unlike REVV, which you only earn based on your ranking, you will always earn SHRD. This mechanic will launch by the end of November, meaning that in December you can start earning SHRD to create CATA. That’s also the moment the first blueprints will come into play.

The top prizes in the Alpha Inaugural event are $12,000 for first place, $9,000 for second place, and $4,500 for third place. Animoca will hand out 1,000 prizes in total, all paid in REVV tokens.
