After moving their ecosystem from Ethereum to Polygon, Ethermon is changing things up by introducing a new generation of creatures which feature different types of rarity. The new set is Mons, the nickname for these critters, is a response from the developers to the growing user base.

The team will launch a Genesis Reborn set, to accommodate the community growth. These Genesis Reborn creatures are slightly weaker than their regular Genesis counterparts, and they have a bit of a visual change. However, the developers won’t re-release approximately 10% of the Genesis creatures. The reason behind this, is mostly based on that these are a bit overpowered. Originally, the mons didn’t have a rarity rating. However, this will change moving forward. Ethermon will have mons with different types of rarity.

Since Ethermon moved its ecosystem to Polygon, and they introduced improved 2D gameplay and features in the 3D world of Decentraland as well, its user base has boomed. Right now more than 70,000 players participate in the Ethermon universe.

Play Ethermon to earn EMON

Ethermon will introduce the EMON token, an ERC-20 token, to push their play-to-earn economy. As a result the token can exist on both the Ethereum and the Polygon blockchain. There’s a total supply of 400 million EMON tokens. Gamers can use these tokens to access premium content, and rare, limited and unique digital assets and benefits. Think about for example buying Ethermons, asset packs, cosmetics, equipment, upgrading metas, enhancing gameplay, unlock special areas and the list continues. The developers will even add more utility to the ecosystem in the future.

However, spending a token is one thing. How do you earn EMON tokens? In the game players can earn MARKS, this is an in-game currency that’s not on the blockchain. They can use these MARKS to craft NFTs, burning these NFTs earns players EMON tokens. Crafted NFTs can also be sold on the marketplace for EMON or through player-owned stores. In addition players can earn EMON through questing, adventures, completing gym battles, and in-game tournaments.

Ethermon moving into Decentraland

Ethermon got completely revamped since the project relaunched as Ethermon Awakening back in 2019. There’s a lot more content, and the game runs on the Polygon blockchain. Now the turn-based battle role playing game is coming the Decentraland, allowing battles and quests in a 3D environment for the first time ever. Ethermon started as a 2D game in 2017, and in the past four years it has developed into a 3D role playing game with its own play-to-earn economy.

Originally the game is a spin-off from the – then popular – game Etheremon, but the new version of the game supports both the old and newer creatures. At the same time a completely new development team took over. The concept of Ethermon will reminds gamers a lot of Pokémon. In the game players need to capture little monsters. These monsters vary in type, generation, form and individual powers. Players own these little monsters and are free to trade them. They can also use these monsters in battle, in which players can earn all kinds of rewards. For example, they can do quests, compete in ranked tournaments, practice or start the adventure mode.

The developers are seeking the best designers to make awesome houses, and there are no restrictions. The build jam needs to help the Ethermon team to add community designs to their world.

Designers are invited to join the official Discord. Also, those who design something should also tweet about it using the hashtag #buildtoearn. The Ethermon devs also have a bonus reward based on community votes.

While everybody is hyped about Ethermon coming to the 3D metaverse of Decentraland, the developers have upgraded the web-based 2D battle system. The 2D Battle Ladder system will full integrate automated EMON rewards. They will launch this update on June 15th.

Even though the developers are ready to implement the changes, they have to wait until the current ladder competitions have finished. Three existing ladders need to end, players need to receive their EMONT rewards and then they will make the switch. This also means the end of EMONT, which will be converted into EMON tokens.

Ladder 1 will close this Friday, followed on Saturday by Ladder 2. In the morning of June 15th the third ladder will close as well. After that the development team will launch all ladders and new fourth one that same day, on June 15th at 12pm UTC. They will share details about the reward structure one day before the launch on Monday 14th.

Ethermon has announced the addition of persistent rewards to their Decentraland gameplay as players can now find a silver ticket. Players can find these tickets by for example defeating slimes. Another option would be to ask their Mon to dig at an Ethermon Grass Meta location in Decentraland.

These Silver Tickets don’t represent direct value at the moment. When players complete a task, they can loot the silver tickets. They can then use these as raffle tickets in a lottery. However, in the future they will also contribute to certain gameplay mechanics.

Every two weeks, ticket holders will get a chance to win EMON tokens or Mon NFTs. Ten lucky ticket holders will earn 500 EMON each, and five others will receive an NFT worth anywhere from $300 to $1,500. In addition, Silver Tickets will continue to hold value, even if you don’t win the lotteries. They will be used as claimable, in-game materials once the loot system has been completed. These materials will be used for crafting NFTs and eventually earning EMON.

The EMON token is pretty new. It was recently launched through Polkastarter. Also the move into Decentraland is recent, as the developers announced this late April.

What’s next

In the next few weeks, the development team will focus on improving the in-world interface, especially in regards to helping players manage their inventories. They are building a completely new interface, focusing on ease of use and functionality. They will place the backpack at the core of the experience.

Ethermon reportedly has over 50,000 players and continues to develop a play-to-earn experience with options for both PvE and PvP players. A loot and crafting system is planned, with over 15 different types of elements which will be used for creating skins, buildings, upgrades, etc.

What is Ethermon?

Ethermon is a blockchain-based game on Polygon inspired by Pokémon. Players collect Ether Mons (or Mons, for short) to participate in a range of play-to-earn game modes. This started as a 2D RPG on the website, and has now become a full-fledged 3D MMORPG in Decentraland.

Players can also pit their Mons against each other in PvP auto-battle modes. There are leaderboards and players can earn EMON tokens as prizes. Combat is not the full extent of the game. Players can also task their Mons with digging up materials from certain plots.

The Pokémon-inspired pet battle game Ethermon is ramping up for its next evolution, as they not only revealed their own native EMON token, but also their own district inside Decentraland. Ethermon got completely revamped since the project relaunched as Ethermon Awakening back in 2019. There’s a lot more content, and the game runs on the Polygon blockchain.

Ethermon started as a 2D game in 2017, and in the past four years it has developed into a 3D role playing game with its own play-to-earn economy. These gigantic evolution also means that the game will say farewell to some old stuff, including the EMONT token. Players can no longer earn the existing EMONT token from an old version of the game. The developers have taken a snapshot on April 19th 2021. EMONT token holders will be able to claim their EMON at a later date.

Details about the Ethermon Universe inside Decentraland, aren’t revealed yet. According to the post on Twitter the big reveal is ‘just around the corner’. Gamers who are a bit more into Ethermon, will probably already know about the existence of some gameplay mechanics in Decentraland. In the Decentraland app store by Metazone you can already find Ethermon Wild Grass. Buying this asset, allows landowners to deploy a battle location for Ethermon. They’ve also created an egg nest, which is a location for players to buy Ethermons. It looks like Ethermon Universe will add a lot more gameplay opportunities to the pet battle role playing game.
