Ember Sword prepares to reveal their world to a larger audience with an open alpha playtest in April! No token or NFT ownership required for this alpha. Players need only register an account on the Ember Sword website.

Ember Sword Open Alpha Playtest

This playtest will be limited — only open on April 18th and 19th, 2023, from 10am CEST until 23:59 CEST each day. Players will be placed in a queue to join when the game opens, and let in on a first come, first served basis. In addition, each player is limited to 30 minutes of playtime in order to give other players a chance to try out the alpha.

The team promises a series of five quests for this alpha, each one previewing a different part of the gameplay. The quests provide an introduction to the game and include PvE combat, resource collection, crafting, puzzle solving, and a PvP arena. Players will also have a chance to explore the open game world, fighting enemies and discovering secrets and hidden areas!

The Ember Sword team is very interested to hear player feedback form this alpha test and will send out a link to a feedback form afterwards. As an added incentive, participants who fill out feedback form have a chance to win an Ember Sword merch pack.

What is Ember Sword?

It has been a while since Ember Sword’s development started. The team grew and maintained a healthy and supportive community right from the beginning. Even though the game is still far from being finished and we are in crypto winter, most of this community is still around. In our last Ember Sword article, we covered a playable demo that gave everyone a glimpse of what this web3 ARPG will become. But this fresh in-game footage is looking way better than their last demo.

In this video, we can see a huge difference from the demo. We can finally see some combat mechanics, characters jumping and dodging enemy attacks, and some of the city’s architecture.

Personally, I think that for a “browser game” its gameplay is looking quite addictive. Combine this with the fact that it will also be available for mobile at some point and you have the recipe to attract a vast audience. The game is still in its early stages of development and there are already dozens of organized guilds ready to get a head start in Ember Sword. That is an indicator of how large and excited the community is.

What is Ember Sword

Ember Sword’s a web3 ARPG on the ImmutableX ecosystem. The game has cartoonish and simple graphics and will offer everything players can expect from an ARPG:

It has a significant emphasis on Nations. In ARPGs and MMORPGs usually nations just affect PvP activities. But in Ember Sword, it is more complex than that. For example, there are areas that are related to PvP activities, other areas with world bosses, and other areas with questing and trading. Players, when choosing a Nation, should consider which types of activities they want to engage in. Obviously, there will also be PvP activities between different Nations. Initially, only Solarwood will be available.

The four available Nations are:

• Sevrend
• Solarwoord
• Duskeron
• Ediseau

Then, as a web3 game it also has NFTs and in the future a crypto token. It will always be free-to-play and NFTs will exist in the form of cosmetics, land plots, and badges. Players, by fighting monsters, might drop some of these skin NFTs that can be then sold on the ImmutableX marketplace.

When it comes to Land Plots they will be used to get tokens as passive income and to build infrastructures like guild houses and shops. These were sold out in 2021. Badges were also sold out in 2021 and they will give early access and tokens to holders.

Though we don’t have news on the next phase of their alpha, Ember Sword is offering up 20 land plots in Solarwood as prizes this month! During the month of June, Ember Sword will hold weekly contests, with the top two finishers each receiving a plot, and all entrants receiving raffle tickets for a chance to win one of the remaining 12 plots at the end of the month. Land ownership is a hot commodity in blockchain gaming. So getting the chance to own a plot of virtual land for free is not something to miss!

Mini-Royale: Nations Loot Minting

Players in Mini-Royale, the web-based FPS game, can now earn and mint weapon and avatar NFTs. Level up your character and battlepass to unlock new weapon skins, then mint those into NFTs for trading and selling! With this new feature, Mini-Royale joins a very small group of games that offer true free to play, play and earn activities. And though the graphics are rather simple, the game runs well, and matches are quick.

Illuvium Land Sale

On June 2nd, illuvium will host its first land sale. This first land sale plays out over three days. With new batches of plots released every hour once it starts. Each sale batch contains 278 plots and lasts for two hours. This sale uses what the Illuvium team calls a declining price model, with the price for plots decreasing by 2.5% every minute. Undead Blocks Tournaments

The zombie survival game which just released its open beta will host tournaments in partnership with one of their partner. While Ember Sword has not yet held any large alpha or open beta, they do keep their community engaged with regular updates, art contests, and other activities. For the month of June, the team has lined up a series of competitions, with Solarwood land plots as prizes!

These upcoming contests share a theme of “Ember Sword’s World”, implying that you might want to read up on the lore and background stories! There will be four competitions in all, one each week. For every competition, there will be two winners, and a chance to earn up to 20 raffle tickets. The two top finishers each week receive a land plot. Meanwhile the raffle tickets accumulate for an end of the month drawing for the remaining twelve plots. So, even if you don’t manage to win an individual contest, there is still a chance to get lucky during the raffle draw!

The details for each competition won’t be revealed until right before they open. Keep on eye on Ember Sword’s Twitter and Discord for notifications. On June 1st, there will be a special site available with a list of all the tasks to complete.

In Ember Sword’s world, each player belongs to one of 4 nations: Dukerson, Sevrend, Solarwood, or Ediseau. Each nation has its own environment and dynamic, so choose carefully which nation better suits you.

As a citizen of Ember Sword, you’ll be able to choose your role in battle. You can be an archer or a warrior for example and this will depend on the gear your character is equipped with.

Each nation is split into different territories, and each territory is going to be linked to a certain kind of activity. For example, as you can see in the diagram, if you like PVP, you will probably spend more time in the outlaw territories. If you prefer to slay some monsters then the Wilderness will be more suited.

Play and Earn in Ember Sword

The game follows the trend of play-and-earn. The first goal is to have fun while playing a good game, and be rewarded for completing quests and progressing in the game. Players will be able to earn cosmetic NFTs, which can then be sold in the marketplace.

Besides this, if you own land,  you will receive a percentage of every transaction that happens in Ember Sword. If an NFT is earned in your land plot, the percentage will be bigger. If you own a settlement, you will also be able to build on it and monetize your virtual infrastructures!

This pre-alpha consists of three rounds of testing during the month of April. The first from April 4th to the 8th, the second from the 18th to the 19th, and the third on the 25th. This test phase involves giving players access to certain, specific gameplay loops. Mainly to test mechanics and gather data for the team. Don’t expect to find a full-on gaming experience.

The first test goes live on April 4th at 6am CST with a simultaneous stream from Svetlin and GameMaster. So those without invites can still get a glimpse of the Ember Sword gameplay.

Bright Star Studios expects to reduce waiting times to fractions of seconds when transacting in-game assets. They will introduce their players to a custodial wallets, and allow users to pay with a credit card. However, these last two points are also options on Polygon.

The Ember Sword developers also believe that NFT sales will be much easier on Immutable X, because nobody needs to stock ETH or MATIC to pay for gas fees. Transacting on Immutable X is free. In addition the Immutable X does tap into the security offered by the Ethereum blockchain.

As a result of this sudden change in direction, the pre-alpha test for Ember Sword has been postponed. Gamers can now expect to set foot inside the game world somewhere in Q1 2022. In addition the next land sale will take place around that time. However, the alpha test will probably not change. They still expect this event to take place by the end of Q2 2022.

Does who already purchased land for Ember Sword will later need to move their assets over from Polygon to Immutable X. The developers promise that this will be an easy, straightforward process. For Polygon this news is less favorable, especially because last month Decimated already announced to move away from Polygon.

The community land sale for Ember Sword should’ve started today. During the sale selected community members get to buy one or more pieces of land assigned to them based on their community efforts. There’s no discount, but pieces of land have been assigned to people from the community. During the community land sale they get to buy these lands, and if they don’t the land parcels will end up in a sale at a later date.

The postponement also brings some good news, because the development team now has time to look into legal concerns surrounding the sale of badge NFTs in the United States. Gamers from the US won’t be able to buy these badges, while Chinese gamers are not allowed to buy land or badges at all.

What are these community badges

Gamers need to pay to get their hands on a community badge. This gives them early access to the alpha and beta tests of the game. In addition the badge will be shown on your Ember Sword profile, but the big problem is that the badge also gives you EMBER tokens. The 5.000 bronze badges give users 2500 EMBER ($250) each, the equivalent of the dollar value of the badge purchase. Silver gives you 5000 EMBER tokens, while gold is worth 25.000 tokens. With 250.000 EMBER in rewards the Platinum badge is the biggest flex, but there will only be 100 of these.

What’s land in Ember Sword

A land plot, which is roughly the size of your game screen, is the smallest piece of land you can buy. For $40 you become a Sir or a Lady, and your land can host campsites, NPC houses, monsters, and resources. For roughly $400, or actually 0,107 ETH, you get a settlement plot. Small-sized buildings can be placed here, for example a guild outpost or some stores.

Pay 2.139 ETH or $8,000 and you get 4 land plots that combine as a town. These allow for bigger buildings, an exchange that connects with the global gaming network. Apparently there were thousands of community members eager to gets their hands on a piece of land. As a result the selection process took a long time. At the moment of writing the website is so busy, that Bright Star Studios has a Cloudflare-powered waiting room in place. But how do you find out whether you’ve been selected? That’s where the website comes into place, and that’s also why the website is so busy. Let’s go through the process.

1. Login to the website using your account.
2. You might need to wait, if the website is very busy. After a while you will be on the website.
3. If you’ve been selected, there’s a notification in the top right corner of your screen.
4. Click it, and you will see a revamped land purchasing page. Here you will see your allotted land, and a countdown.
5. When the countdown ends, you will no longer be able to buy the land. So make a decision for the timer ends.
6. The purchasing period will start on September 30th and end on October 14th.

You can get a badge!

Aside from whether you will get land, everybody who qualified will have the ability to purchase a Community Badge. These badges are limited edition NFTs that give players access to several perks. For starters, the NFT is an in-game badge of honor, but it also gives players access to alpha tests. Furthermore, users will be able to claim the tokens dollar value in Ember tokens at a later point in 2022. So, basically, it gives you early access and you invest early in the Ember token.
