Being based in Ukraine has caused some trouble for the Dark Country team over the past year. But they still work onwards, recently revealing their plans in a roadmap for 2023. These plans include a mobile version, as well as new card expansions!

Dark Country recently released their roadmap for 2023. The bulk of which revolves around a planned mobile release. Dark Country hopes to attract a larger playerbase by making their game more accessible. Mobile gaming continues to grow, and the web3 gaming developers don’t want to miss out on that market! Dark Country hopes to release both an Android and iOS version of the game within the first half of 2023.

And to make it more seamless for players unfamiliar with web3 technology, and to also help maintain the game economy, the team is looking into implementing an in-game only token called GOLD.

In addition, 2023 will see the implementation of leagues and seasons, allowing players to compete with (hopefully) equally skilled competitors. There will be 3-4 leagues to begin with, and seasons will run for two weeks. The top players of each league win packs at the end of each season. This feature should arrive in Q1 of 2023.

To help boost the game’s free to play opportunities and not discourage new players on the mobile app, Dark Country will also include a Beginner League where players can only play with a free, standard deck. Each season the top finishers will be awarded with card packs they can use to begin building their own decks.

Expansion in 2023

In addition to the hopeful expansion of the playerbase, Dark Country has other expansions planned as well.

In 2023, Dark Country plans to release four new card expansion sets, each with 40 new cards. This will bring the total number of cards available for the game to over 500.

But that’s just the start. Dark Country has much bolder plans. This includes expansion to no less than four additional blockchains, as well as releasing on additional distribution platforms. This seems like a big project, and I’m not entirely sure how the players will interact between blockchains. Will there be a central, seamless market for trading NFTs? Will players have to move all the cards to the same chain in order to play them in the same deck? The Dark Country team said that they planned to ‘unify’ their SDM token across the chains.

What all this means to the average player remains to be seen. Hopefully we will have more details on the functionality behind these expansions in the near future!

At its core, Dark Country is a collectible, trading card game built on the WAX blockchain. It features a gothic horror /western theme with cowboys, guns, demons, magic, and undead minions!

Dark Country plays like other TCGs you might be familiar with such as MTG, Hearthstone, and Gods Unchained. Players spend mana, play cards from their hand, and try to reduce the opponent’s health to zero.

Dark Country is free to play. The game provides a set of starter cards for everyone to play with. Players can also use their own NFT cards to build decks. Dark Country features play-to-earn options via regular tournaments, special Play the Pros events, and by engaging in the land gameplay.

Dark Country includes their own token, used in the land game, known as Shadow Dimes (SDM). Land owners use Shadow Dimes to upgrade their buildings and as pay for players. Shadow Dimes exist on both the WAX and FLOW blockchains. The map layer for the game includes land ownership, guild PvP, quests, and more!

Dark Country adds a new facet to their play and earn economy with the addition of Daily NFT rewards. Now, the top players of each day receive Hero cards as prizes. These Heroes can be staked into the land game for additional rewards as well!

Dark Country continues to expand upon their ecosystem. After implementing the ability to earn Shadow Dimes (SDM) tokens this past summer, Dark Country adds to their play and earn system by implementing daily, NFT card rewards.

Every day, the top five players (based on PvP rating) win a Hero card. The top player earns a Rare card on weekdays, while the reward is increased to an Epic Hero on Saturday and Sunday! It’s unclear about the rewards for the other top four, but it seems like those will be Common Hero cards.

Players can stake Hero and regular cards in the land game, and use them to enter daily quests, earning SDM tokens in the process.

The game is free to play. You can download Dark Country at https://darkcountry.itch.io/dark-country.

Dark Country Land Gameplay

There are two basic ways to earn Shadow Dimes in Dark Country. One is by playing the collectible card game. The other is by through land interaction. Landowners have an Influence rating in Dark Country. Influence determines how many SDM tokens landowners receive in daily payouts. Influence is deflationary, decreasing daily. Landowners can lower their deflation rate by staking large quantities of Shadow Dimes in the Bank.

Landowners gain Influence by sponsoring Quests. These Quests are passive. Landowners set a rarity level for the Quest, and a payout in SDM tokens. Players assemble a team consisting of one hero (must be quest level rarity or higher) and a team of 40 cards — NFTs from the Dark Country card game. They assign this team to the Quest and earn Shadow Dimes when it completes. Quests take 24 hours to finish, though each card added to the team decreases the quest timer based on the card rarity.

In return for this service, landowners earn Influence for each completed Quest on their land. In addition to Quest payouts, landowners also use Shadow Dimes to upgrade their buildings. Dark Country also recently added Guild Wars, allowing land owners to pay for players to fight for them.

All NFTs must be staked to the land game before they can be used in any land gameplay. This includes lands, heroes, and other cards.

Dark Country continues to expand their land based gameplay by implementing guild wars. Guild Wars allow any landowner to recruit Soldiers to fight for their cause, earning Shadow Dimes and reputation along the way.

Dark Country, a western-gothic, TCG style game, has been building out a larger, land-based gameplay layer. Now they add another facet to land ownership with the addition of Guild Wars.

Landowners generate game activity via creating Quests, which pay out Shadow Dime tokens for players who stake their cards and join. They can also create a Guild, offering Soldiers who join their ranks daily payouts, and bounties for attacking the Guild’s rivals!

Guild Gameplay

All land owners start out with a basic Guild House (accessed via the Barracks in game), but they can also choose to upgrade it in order to recruit more Soldiers. A level 1 Guild House holds 10 Soldiers maximum, a level 2 can hold 20, all the way up to level 5, which can house as many as 150 Soldiers! Creating a Guild is free, though only open to those who own a land NFT. Guild leaders can invite anyone to join their Guild, even players in other Guilds. Though players can only belong to one Guild at a time.

Dark Country Guild interface
Dark Country Guild interface

The names of the in-game ranks are fixed (Recruit, Major, etc), but the guild owner can choose the default payout for each rank. And actually, the guild leader can set specific pay for each individual Soldier as they invite them to join. What meaning each rank has beyond pay is up for the Guild leader to decide.

Soldiers earn Rank Points as they engage and succeed in Guild activities. This doesn’t have any gameplay effect, though Guild owners can use it to get a general idea of each Soldier’s activity level.

Guilds can choose to war with other guilds, wagering Influence. Soldiers from both Guilds play dueling matches until only side remains. The winning Guild receives 50 Influence, and the other Guild loses 50 Influence. When starting a war, the Guild leader posts a prize in SDM (Shadow Dime) tokens. Soldiers from the winning Guild split 90% of that prize pool, while the remaining 10% of the tokens are burned.

Dark Country launched their land gameplay and Shadow Dime token some time back. Unfortunately, there have not been many use cases for this token. This is beginning to change now as Dark Country adds utility in the ability to buy card packs with Shadow Dimes, and also introduces two liquidity pools for the token as well.

Players can earn Shadow Dimes, or SDM tokens, by embarking on quests in the land gameplay of Dark Country. Gather together a hero and 40 cards to send out on these player made quests. Questing is passive. Players simply pick their hero, select the appropriate level quest, and click a button. About 24 hours later, the quest ends and the player receives SDM tokens. Landowners also receive passive token income based on the influence level of their owned lands.

However, there has not been much players could do with these tokens. Landowners use them to create quests and can stake tokens to lower the decay rate of their influence, but that was about it. Fortunately, Dark Country is slowly addressing the lack of SDM sinks by adding two new features — pack purchases with SDM tokens, and a new SDM staking system on Flow.

New Shadow Dime (SDM) Use Cases

Two new options are now available for SDM tokens.

Players can buy Dark Country packs on the site for the cost of 20,000 SDM tokens. Purchases may be made from the FLOW or WAX blockchains. These are for standard packs, and only 2000 are available. Players can purchase these packs on the official website.

In addition, for those who like staking and farming, there are now liquidity pools (LPs) on both FLOW and WAX. The pairing on FLOW is with USDC. You will need a Blocto Wallet to access https://app.increment.fi/swap to set up your LPs. Once you have your LP tokens, stake them on https://app.increment.fi/farm.

Liquidity pools on WAX can be accessed at DIY farm. SDM tokens are paired with WAX tokens for this LP.

Both farming pools are open meaning you can add and remove your liquidity at any point during the 30 day period. The liquidity pools opened on November 1st and lasts for 30 days.

Dark Country also introduced a card leasing system recently, allowing players to lease cards for 30-day rental periods. The interface is not that great, but the feature is functional!

Expect to see more uses for SDM token arrive over the coming months as Dark Country continues to build out their world. Upcoming features include Guild Wars, more building upgrades, leagues, seasons, farming, and more!

After months of testing, Dark Country goes live with its new play to earn economy. Based around Shadow Dimes (SDM), game tokens that already exist on the WAX and FLOW blockchains, players can earn by playing the Dark Country card game and by participating in the new, land-based gameplay.

It’s been over a year since Dark Country first sold Land NFTs and announced their plans to build a greater ecosystem around their western-horror, collectible card game. They have been testing the land gameplay for some time now, and at long last, the first version is live and online! This release brings a new play and earn era to Dark Country. Players and landowners alike can earn Shadow Dimes for playing the card game and engaging with the land gameplay.

While we still wait for the land gameplay to move into release phase, Dark Country offers up a new tournament. One that utilizes a portion of the new land gameplay! This tournament extends across two weeks and offers a prize pool of 1000 WAX.

For a long time, Dark Country simply provided players with access to all the cards for testing purposes. But with the recent addition of a starter set for new players, it was time to move to the next stage. Now, owners of Dark Country NFTs must import their cards into the game via staking and build decks with their own cards. And with this new tournament, Dark Country deckbuilders have the chance to show us what they’ve got!

Dark Country Tournament Details

The tournament started on April 6th, but you can jump in anytime. To participate, you must own at least 40 Dark Country cards — enough to make a deck. Then login to https://landtest.darkcountry.io/ and stake your cards via the Asset link at the top of the page. Then install Dark Country if you don’t have it already. It uses the Itch.io launcher, which is also utilized by The Seventh Seal, another game on WAX. Now, you are ready to start playing!

Dark Country tournament leaderboard

The tournament runs four times a day, at 3 am/pm and at 9 am/pm UTC, with an ongoing leaderboard. The in-game leaderboard tracks the current standings. And while the prize purse is hefty, the prize pool is a bit shallow. Only the top three from the leaderboard will receive any WAX at the end. But, this tournament does offer a chance for players to get in plenty of practice and compete against the top players, who will certainly be vying for one of those top spots.

Though you could just buy the 40 cheapest cards on the market, if you want to actually have fun playing your deck, you might want to put some thought into building it! It’s probably also best to play a few rounds with the starter cards and familiarize yourself with the game first. As promised in their 2022 roadmap, Dark Country opens up land gameplay on the WAX mainnet. Though the system is still in testing, and any progress made before the official launch will be wiped, Dark Country landowners now have a chance to check out the land systems and prepare themselves for the release. A release that includes mostly passive earnings for attentive landowners who take care of their lands!

No longer do landowners need to setup a WAX testnet account to try out the land gameplay. Dark Country opened up their new land map on the WAX mainnet. This is still a testing phase, so expect all progress to be reset. The game is also using a temporary token counter called TDM. Shadow Dimes won’t be distributed until after the testing phase completes. This phase is for crushing bugs, gathering metrics and feedback from the players, and giving landowners a preview of the land management and gameplay.

Ir order to access your Land and other cards, you must first ‘stake’ them into the Dark Country webpage. This doesn’t remove the cards from your wallet. You still maintain ownership. This just lets the Dark Country system know that you wish to use those cards for land gameplay.

Dark Country Land Gameplay

Though the town looks complete, at the moment, only a limited number of buildings are available. These are the Saloon, which acts as a quest hub, the Guild House, for managing Guilds, the Sheriff’s Office, for creating contracts, the Bank, for staking and token transfer options, and the Town Hall where players can see the Influence leaderboard.

Dark Country Land overview

Influence is a key feature for landowners in Dark Country. Landowners receive daily payouts of Shadow Dimes, based on their Influence rating. Influence for each land starts at 100 and can go no lower. Each land also receives a multiplier based on rarity. From 1x for Commons, up to 10x for Mythical lands! Influence decays over time. This means that landowners need to stay active and engaged to maintain their Influence. Staking Shadow Dimes at the Bank, reduces the decay rate.

Landowners upgrade buildings on their lands at the cost of Shadow Dimes. Each building offers different bonuses for upgrades. For example, upgrading the Saloon, allows the player to host more quests.

Dark Country Quests

Dark Country Quest interface
quest for Shadow Dimes

Quests are currently the primary means of gaining Shadow Dimes and Influence. Landowners create quests by choosing a rarity level and a reward amount.

Players form parties for quests. Parties consist of 1 Hero and 40 standard cards, any rarity. The higher rarities reduce the time it takes to complete the quest. Default quest times is 24 hours. Parties can only join quests that are equal to or less than the rarity of the party’s Hero. And as you might imagine, higher rarity quests offer better rewards for everyone. Quests cannot be cancelled once they have started. Once a player takes and completes the quest, the landowner receives an Influence bonus and pays out Shadow Dimes as a reward.

The options for play to earn will expand as additional features are implemented and activated. Also, access for landowners on the Flow blockchain should open soon.

Not content to simply create a trading card game, Dark Country has been working for a while on building out a larger gaming world. One that includes land ownership and guild battles. With the latest roadmap update, Dark Country reveals a timeline for these features and a lot more!

Dark Country began as a trading card game with a mystic-western theme. But in the first half of 2020, they announced a rather large expansion of their plans with the addition of land ownership and a wider gameplay world. The beta playtest for land ownership in Dark Country has been running for a couple of months now. But that will soon come to an end as the latest roadmap update shows us that the Dark Country teams plans to release the land ownership feature as early as February!

And that’s not the only exciting update. Dark Country released a very specific, month by month breakdown of their goals for 2022. Let’s take a look!

Roadmap Details

The roadmap starts off with a bang! It begins in February with an initial launch of the land gameplay as well as play to earn mechanics and weekly tournaments! Players will also no longer have access to all the cards. Instead everyone gets a basic deck, and adds their own cards to it.

The play to earn token for Dark Country is called Shadow Dimes. Players and landowners who earn Shadow Dimes can stake them in March. March also brings the introduction of alliances for land holders. Alliances compete for control of shrines (introduced later).

Dark Country buildings
what will you build in your town?

But wait! There’s more! Landowners can also begin building up their land with a selection of buildings. Will it be the saloon to attract more players? Or Butchers and Quarries for resource production? Hopefully the choices will be meaningful and gated in such a way that every land won’t have all the buildings.

April sees the introduction of land leasing, allowing other players to run and manage the land and buildings while paying fees to the land owner. A quest system with rewards where players compete against AI players is also planned for this month

May is another big month with the addition of card rentals and heroes. Card rentals! This has been an amazing feature for Splinterlands and I’m glad to see the Dark Country team with rental plans on their near-term roadmap. And I’m all for some Heroes action, because I have a bunch of them. But it’s unclear exactly how they will be used. I think they will be part of the wider land game rather than the card game.

Alliance PvP and battles for Shrine and map control are planned for June. Landowners band together to compete for control of Shrines. Alliances recruit players, or soldiers, to compete against opposing alliances. Details on this feature are lacking, but it will be an important play to earn aspect as well as an additional gaming avenue for landowners.

Dark country blacksmith image
strike the forge!

July promises item crafting, an important component for land gameplay. Perhaps building upgrades will rely on these items. And finally, “Roguelike adventure campaigns”. I have no idea what this would look like, though I envision some sort of Slay the Spire type game. But, until we get more information, let your imagination run wild!

And unfortunately, that’s where the roadmap ends. Fair enough. Especially given the amount of content and features they plan on delivering over the next six months!

Dark Country prepares to unleash a beta test of new gameplay involving land. Featuring a new token and a play-to-earn economy, land gameplay promises a major expansion of the Dark Country universe. As one of the older games on the Wax blockchain, Dark Country has not enjoyed as much of the spotlight as some of the more recent, meteoric risers. But that will likely change very soon.

Sold back in May of 2021, Dark Country land NFTs seemed a big stretch for what was just a horror-western themed trading card game. But the Dark Country team promised that the card game was only the beginning. Lands would bring new adventures, more play-to-earn mechanics, and an potential investment for those who wanted to own and manage a plot.

Now the time has come to get a look behind the curtains. Dark Country is currently running an open playtest for the strategic land layer. The playtest is happening on both the Wax and Flow blockchains and they expect it to last for a couple of weeks. Standard packs will be give to random participants, and the players with the most influence levels on their lands will be awarded 10 packs and 5 boosters!

Participating requires a WAX testnet account. A regular WAX account will not work. Here is a video about setting up an account on the WAX testnet. Then you will need to fill out this form and wait to be accepted. Submissions are processed every few days. the Flow test has not begun yet. Instructions for that will come at a later time.

About Dark Country Lands

Dark Country lands exist in continents, which each continent existing on a separate blockchain. WAX and Flow are the current, active chains. Continents are 100×100 with 4,000 of the plots available for ownership. Dark Country reserves the rest of the land for special game activities.

Land provides access to Adventure zones, special areas where players earn Shadow Dimes by completing quests. Landowners receive a portion of the earnings from players on their lands. To entice players, landowners have the option of upgrading several buildings and creating quests of their own.

Shadow Dimes are the basic game token for Dark Country. Landlords earn daily revenue from a shared pool in addition to their cuts from Adventurers. Players use Shadow Dimes to buy packs, Reforge heroes, and for staking on Lands. Land owners also use Shadow Dimes to pay for building upgrades and construction and as rewards for players using their lands.

Apparently, there will also be options to provide rewards for players to attack other landowners, and pay for protection for your lands! Details on this feature are lacking, but it could make for an interesting PvP layer.

What is Dark Country?

Dark Country is a collectible, trading card game built on the WAX blockchain. Featuring cowboys, guns, demons, magic, and undead minions, Dark Country brings a different theme to the world of card battling games. Dark Country plays like other TCGs you might be familiar with such as MTG, Hearthstone, and Gods Unchained. Players spend mana, play cards from their hand, and try to reduce the opponent’s health to zero.

The game is free to play and currently in an alpha phase. Though players can purchase Dark Country cards on the marketplaces, you actually don’t need any to play the game. While it’s in alpha, all cards are available to all players. Players can already play to earn via regular tournaments, special Play the Pros events, and by staking Hero cards on the Dark Country website.

The game plans to expand considerably with the introduction of a map layer with land ownership and strategic decisions for players.

Dark Country has also been active in the WAX ecosystem, partnering with many other projects such as Nova Rally, Exit Limbo, and Deepmine. Sometimes special cards are released, other times card owners get a chance earn tokens from other projects.

The developers of the trading card game Dark Country will require landowners to be active, developing their land and creating activities for other players. Landowners need to compete with each other for influence by creating game activities, rewarding players with SDM tokens for participating in them.

SDM is the main token for Dark Country, and it’s called Shadow Dime. Players can use SDM to purchase game assets or trade the token on an exchange. There’s a total supply of 100 billion SDM tokens per blockchain, and every day landowners split 0,0001% of the remaining supply. The more influence a land parcel has, the more SDM it will receive.

The developers have set the basic influence of a land parcel to 100, and it can’t get lower than that. However, land closer to the center of the world will have a higher influence level. Landowners can increase their influence multiplier by creating activities. Influence deflates as well. Simply put, influence shoots up when there’s activity and slowly drops when activity drops.

Landowners can reduce the deflation reduction by staking SDM on their land. For example, 1 million SDM would give 5% deflation reduction, all the way up to 50%. In short, stake SDM on your land and influence levels will stay a bit higher.

What types of land activities

Landowners can setup land activities by hosting activities on their lands. For example, when a land has a tavern it can offer passive quests. These PvE activities allow players to use their heroes, and send them on a quest. Players and landowners will earn resources or SDM tokens.

Gamers can only send their heroes on a quest, when the quest has a similar rarity or lower. The quests themselves will be recurring, so when it will reappear again when completed. However, players can only have 5 active quests at any given moment. Landowners can setup the rewards for their quests manually, and rewards will get distributed when the quests is over. A quests generally takes 24 hours, but rare cards reduce that time. However, a quest can’t take less than 4 hours.

There are more activities. For example, players can stake their reforged heroes in the headquarters. Landlords can start a contract that locks heroes up to 3 months. These contracts can’t be cancelled, and the minimum time is two weeks.

Land gameplay will introduce custom tournaments without any limitations on the quest rewards. In addition there will be land wars, where landowners can battle each other in exchange for influence and SDM rewards. Of course you can also lose influence in these PVP fights.

What is Dark Country?

Dark Country is a trading card game on the Wax blockchain. The game combines elements from classic western movies with the occult. The Chief tried to call upon the ancestral guard, but instead woke an ancient evil. Now there are four groups, with cowboys, criminals, Indians, and undead demons. Players pick one of these groups for their hero powers and build decks with the cards in their inventory.

The Exodus card series was sold during the pre-sale. These cards come with a mechanic called Inspire. The more inspire-cards a player has, the more powerful the abilities of the Natives become. Each faction has ten inspire-cards, while the neutrals have sixty.
