Looking for something to do in February? How about participating in the Galactic Masters Tournament for Cometh? With a grand prize of $1500, and many other prizes along the way, there are plenty of opportunities to play and earn!

Cometh, the spaceship battling, deck building card game, has announced a Galactic Masters Tournament in February of 2023. The final Galactic Masters tournament will consist of 16 players. But leading up to that will be a number of qualifying events. Six in fact, two Sector Missions and four Sector Cups.

Tournament Info

Cups are basically mini-tournaments. Each Cup lasts two days and is open to everyone. Each match is a best of three.

  • Sector Cup #1 Cygnus: January 31st to February 1st
  • Sector Cup #2 Centaurus: February 3rd to February 4th
  • Sector Cup #3 Sagittarius: February 7th to February 8th
  • Sector Cup #4 Perseus: February 10th to February 11th

The top two players for each Sector Cup earn a pot in the Masters tournament.

The Sector Missions each involve a five day leaderboard competition, followed by a two day playoff bracket. Every player’s ELO will reset at the beginning of a new Sector Mission. After five days, the top 16 qualify for the playoff bracket. Playoff brackets are single elimination, best of three format.

The top four players for each Sector Mission playoff win a chance to compete in the Galactic Masters Tournament.

  • Sector Mission #1 Periphery: January 19th to January 23rd 2023,12 PM CET
  • Sector Mission #2 Core: February 13th through February 17th, 2023, 12 PM CET

If a player has already a spot in the Masters from a prior competition, their newly earned spot goes to the next available player with the highest rank from the event.

The Galactic Masters Tournament is a single elimination, best of five competition. The grand finale will consist of a best of seven match.

Interested participants must register on http://communitygaming.io/ . Players will need to check-in 15 minutes before each tournament and players will need to arrange a private match with each of their opponents.

Tournament Prizes

Players can earn prizes in USDC for each section of the tournament series. First place in a Sector Mission is worth $420, second place $270, and third place $180. Prizes continue to scale down from there but reach all the way to 150th place, which still earns $6. Sector Cups reward the top player with $270, but then only go so far as the top 16, with $25 each for 9th through 16th positions.

And then, finally, the Galactic Masters! Just making it this far is worth $100 for the bottom seven finishers. Place 5 through 8 receive $200, 4th receives $300, third $600, second $1000, and the top place nets a nice purse of $1500 USDC!

Read the official Medium post for the full details on the tournament rules and prizes.

What is Cometh?

Cometh is a spaceship-battling, deck building game built on the Polygon blockchain. The Cometh gameplay will be mostly familiar to veterans of other trading card games. Players build a deck of 40 cards and face off in 1 vs 1 duels. Each player has a Spaceship that acts as their game avatar. When your Spaceship reaches zero health, you lose.

Players draw cards from their deck, then spend Energy to play the cards during their turn. Players can also use Energy to draw extra cards. Some cards are effects, damage, healing, etc, while other cards are ‘Orbiters’, friendly ships that help fight your opponent. There are also Secret cards, whose effect isn’t revealed to the opponent right away! With a wide selection of Starships and over 230 cards, Cometh offers plenty of opportunity for strategic deckbuilding and gameplay.

Cometh is free to play. Players can connect with a web3 wallet or an email address. The game includes a series of introductory tutorials. Completing the tutorials provides the player with a free set of 40 cards and a starter Spaceship. Players who finish the tutorial missions also receive Credits they can spend at the Galactic Shop.

And though players can’t earn game rewards with the starter ‘Mule’ ship, Cometh does include a rental option. Players can rent ship from other players for a base fee in MUST token, plus a percentage of their game earnings. Players also have the option of purchasing their own Starships.

In addition, players can purchase booster packs with Starships in-game, using resources they receive from winning battles.

What once was a defi platform with a gameified, asteroid chasing aspect, has morphed into a trading card game about battling spaceships! With a wide selection of cards, a rental system, plus the recent introduction of daily quests and a game store where players can purchase cosmetic NFTs, Cometh is set for future growth.

Having played a little bit of Cometh over a year ago, it feels strange to look at it now. Where once players boosted starships to intercept orbiting asteroids to earn a small amount of tokens, Cometh has pivoted into a more playable game. One that features players facing off in duels, trying to destroy their opponent’s Starship. Cometh is now a sci-fi themed, strategic, deckbuilding, trading card, web3 enabled game!

This new gameplay was first launched in May of 2022. Since then Cometh has continued to build, with a recent update adding daily quests, a new game currency, Galactic Credits, and a game shop to help players spend those Credits.

Latest Update and Future Plans

Cometh recently launched their v0.13 update. This update includes daily quests, a new Galactic Shop with limited time sales, playable, non-NFT cards, and cosmetic items.

Each day, the game offers every player three randomly selected, daily quests to complete, which reward the player with Galactic Credits. For new players, the first set of Daily Quests will focus on completing the Cometh Battle tutorial, which will rewards them with 600 Galactic Credits to expand their collection.

Players can spend these Credits in the new Galactic Shop for Non-NFT playable cards and NFT cosmetics. Every day the shop offers a different selection of 5 NFT cosmetics and 3 non-NFT cards (2 commons and 1 uncommon). The NFT cosmetics consist of 84 animated emojis (14 models with 6 different expressions, including 4 Xmas branded model emojis). The non-NFT cards are not tradeable, but all of the cosmetics and emojis are! The team plans to continue to add new cosmetic items in the future.

This combination of daily quests, and a game currency allowing players to buy tradeable NFTs adds a new, free to play, play and earn facet to the game.

Cometh plans to release a single player experience in Q1 of 2023, as well as continue building on their current game. To learn more about Cometh, visit their website, follow them on Twitter, and join their Discord server.

The GameFi game Cometh is transitioning into a better and improved version that we now know as Cometh Beyond, but first there will be passive income. The yield farming game will move more towards passive income, and starting from October 4th there won’t be any new asteroids with minable LP-tokens. The Cometh game and rental features will be progressively decommissioned until they completed the upgrade.

Since Cometh’s launch in February, the GameFi game has ran into some issues involving scalability and the rise of bots. That’s why the team will introduce a player journey that sort of verifies how human a player is. There will also be elements of governance, politics and guilds coming to Cometh. In addition Cometh will become completely free-to-play and compatible with smartphones.

However, that’s the future. In the present Cometh will switch things up a lot. Starting with no more LP-token carrying asteroids. On the 15th of October they will airdrop LP-tokens from the MATIC-MUST ComethSwap LP pool to ship owners. These shop owners need to stake their MUST tokens for at least one week to be eligible.

Passive rewards on ship NFTs

Players can use one of their ships or multiple. That doesn’t matter. However, for a ship to qualify, players need to have the right about MUST staked. The rewards are cumulative as long as you have the right amount of MUST. The system will give rewards to the ship that gives the best rewards.

  • Common Spaceship in play and stake 1 MUST for a week to get ~33.3% APY on the MUST value staked
  • Uncommon Spaceship in play and stake 4 MUST for a week, get ~41.7% APY on the MUST value staked
  • Rare Spaceship in play and stake 55 MUST for a week, get ~45.5% APY on the MUST value staked
  • Mythic Spaceship in play and stake 68 MUST for a week, get ~49% APY on the MUST value staked
  • This airdrop will happen on a weekly basis every Friday until the release of Cometh Beyond

Why is this happening?

Passive income is fun, but not as fun as an actual game. Why are they taking Cometh offline? Well, the team wants to focus on Cometh Beyond, the improved version of the game. As long as Cometh remains online there will be maintenance time and efforts. This system with passive rewards allows the team to reward loyal players, without losing focus on the development of Cometh Beyond.

A new game mode in Cometh Beyond

Cometh Beyond will feature a completely new game mode that needs to provide a new dynamic for Cometh gamers. Battles and Piracy is a battle mode which involves the spaceships, their crew members, their perks and new items. Players will be able to literally pirate each other’s ships.

In the core game of Cometh players can challenge each other when they are close enough, and in certain zones. Some of the tokens that players find on asteroids will always remain at risk of piracy, until the ship drops it at a depot. That’s also where guilds come into play, and they should enforce justice in zones where they determine the law.

The addition of this mode will also mean that the universe in Cometh will be filled with all kinds of resources. The solar system will also contain buildings providing certain services. Players will need to hoard resources, and then go to certain locations to either store their assets, trade them or use them to craft other items.

The developers of Cometh have made it one of their priorities to bring Cometh to mobile devices, in addition the yield farming game will receive a complete overhaul with new features. Since the game launch in February, more than 10 thousand users have given Cometh a try.

Cometh launched with the idea to prove that DeFi and gaming can mix. Judging by the current hype surrounding GameFi, we’d guess that Cometh made its point. However, they now want to make the game more fun. They want to add guilds, which will bring a sense of politics into the ecosystem. Guilds will also play a big role in resource management. Overall, replayability, rhythm and gameplay are elements they all want to improve. More about that in a bit.

As the team will introduce methods to combat bots, they will also scale their system to support more players. Cometh wants to bring their GameFi product to mobile devices, and this will bring a wider range of enthusiasts into the game. Players will need to own or rent a ship to play Cometh and earn MUST. Players need this to experience to full potential of Cometh, and a new fee system will need to help to onboard as many new players as possible.

Battles and Piracy game mode

A completely new game mode needs to provide a new dynamic for Cometh gamers.

The full plans for the improved version of Cometh V2 will be unveiled on October 4th. During Q4 there will be a couple of Demo Days, followed by a release of Cometh V2 and its mobile version in January or February 2022.

What is Cometh?

Cometh is a space game, but above all it’s gamified DeFi product. They describe themselves as a ‘DeFi powered game with yield generating NFT’. Active players can mine MUST tokens using their NFT spaceships. A share of every NFT purchase goes directly in the MUST pools for the game. That way Cometh really is a mix from a game and a DeFi product.

No matter whether you look at Cometh from an investment or gaming perspective, the promise is quite cool. You control a spaceship, and you need to position it to mine tokens. Navigating the galaxy can be done by ‘linking up’ with other spaceships. When other players use your spaceship, you earn MUST. The good thing about the game is that it runs entirely on a layer2 solution, Polygon blockchain to be precise. So there won’t be any crazy gas fees.

Recently Cometh already introduced multiple solar systems. That way the game can deal with the influx of new players into their DeFi ecosystem. In addition they introduced the ability to drop a rover onto an asteroid for extra bonus drops.

Cometh is not crashing the party, they are joining! Visitors of the festival will have a chance to win their first space ship, while learning about the blend of decentralized finance and gaming.

Cometh is a DeFi yield farming game on the Polygon blockchain. Players or users first acquire a spaceship NFT, and then position that NFT within the galaxy to intercept asteroids. Moving a ship around, costs MUST. However, intercepting an asteroid allows a spaceship to farm tokens. The amount that’s being farmed depends on the spaceship and the asteroid itself.

Starting this Saturday, two days before the festival starts, a new competition will start during which players can win thousands of dollars worth of prizes. You can read more about the tournament here.

At the Play to Earn Game Festival, visitors can learn about hot, new and upcoming games that tap into blockchain-powered economies. Yield farming game Cometh on the Polygon blockchain has introduced $10 M.U.L.E. spaceships, alongside a $150,000 competitive tournament. The cheap spaceship serve as an introduction into the game, and players also receive a bit of MUST. These new recruits can join regular $1,000 Cometh playground mining battles.

Using a M.U.L.E. spaceship gamers can battle for MATIC, MUST and ComethSwap LP tokens. Even better is the possibility to earn a Polygon Galactic Cup ticket. This will grant players access to a big blockchain-powered esports tournament where 4,000 players will compete for $40,000 in Polygon token prizes. Only players using Common spaceship NFTs will be allowed in the tournament, which will start on July 10th.

You can find an entry ticket using your M.U.L.E., but you can also stake MUST tokens. By staking MUST you earn points, which can be redeemed for spaceships or other NFTs. In this case of course a ticket to the tournament. The Polygon Galactic Cup is just the first stage of the bigger tournament, as only the top 500 players receive a ticket for the next tournament.

Another tournament in Cometh

We already know 1,500 players can join the Polygon Galactic Trophy on July 17th. There will be $50,000 in prizes up for grabs. During this tournament only common and uncommon ships can participate. At this tournament only 100 players will receive a ticket for the Polygon Cup Grand Prix, where only 300 players can join in total. Here $60,000 will be available to win, mythic ships can also join the fun, and it all starts on July 25th.

The space mining game Cometh has brought staking MUST tokens and NFT farming to the Polygon blockchain. The v2 update now completely exists on the Polygon blockchain, which means it’s almost free to use. Above everything, the function is accessible to everybody.

Cometh already offered NFT farming on Ethereum, but that feature was a bit inaccessible for many because of the high gas fees. From this point forward there will be a main tube, where old and new users can stake big amounts of MUST to get access to limited edition, premium stuff. However, Cometh now also introduced ‘capped’ tubes, which players with smaller amounts of MUST can stake and regularly collect ships and items. This is obviously where Polygon comes into play, as these sidechain do very well in serving users with smaller wallets.

In addition it’s good to know that players can now use items in the game. This items provide a one-time advantage, but the developers behind Cometh are still working this out a bit. In addition each partnership with third-parties projects and companies, will get their own tube. This will allow players to fine-tune their strategy for their MUST staking distribution.

Cometh looks a lot like a game, but under the hood it’s a DeFi product where players can earn MUST and DUST tokens. They also built their own bridge between Ethereum and Polygon. Read more about bridging tokens here.

Cometh has launched a new mechanism to their mining game, which allows rover robots to start mining on radioactive meteors. Spaceships themselves can’t mine from these special meteors, and therefore they depend on the Machinery attribute to drop a mining rover on the asteroid.

Players can only place these mining rovers on radioactive meteors. Players need to be close to the meteor to drop their rover, and it then automatically starts mining. There can only be a limited amount of rovers on a meteor. Every radioactive comet has a reward pool of $1,000 in MUST tokens. A rover can earn $0,41 per hour, and a radioactive comet can carry 100 rovers. As a result a meteor can be empty after 24 hours and 20 minutes, if every rover starts mining the moment it spawns… which obviously never happens.

While the rover is busy, players can fly their spaceship to other planets and mine there. The top-right notification interface will keep players up-to-date about the performances of the rover. Players need to make sure that they pick up their rover in time, but when the comet runs out of resources it will explode. The rover will then return to the spaceship, but without resources.

The DeFi-powered space mining game Cometh has received some many different updates in recent days, it feels like we’re talking about a different game now. They introduced Solar Systems, tripling the game field and doubling the rewards. In addition the team launched ComethSwap, partnered with BadgerDAO and created a rental service for NFTs on the Polygon blockchain.

Among the biggest updates for Cometh are the solar systems, which add a lot more space to mine meteors and earn those MUST tokens. In addition players can travel between solar systems, by finding portals on the map. Travelling through hyperspace does cost you 0.001 MUST though. At the moment there are three solar systems available, but as Cometh attracts more users, more can be added.

You can buy spaceships on the secondary market. However, you can also rent them. Cometh Rental allows any spaceship owner to rent his spaceships to other users for a fee, and share mining rewards. This fits very well in the play-to-earn economy.

For example, you’d pay 2 MUST to rent three ships, and need to give 5% of your mining rewards to the owner. Or you’ve pay only 0.1 MUST, but pay 50%. To get an idea, 1 MUST is currently more than $244. The developers launched ComethSwap earlier this week. According to DappRadar they already generated $7.88 million in trading volume, coming from 565 users.

One of the pools opening on Thursday will be MUST/bBADGER, which comes from a partnership with bitcoin-oriented DeFi protocol BadgerDAO. They will also sell several Badger-themed ships through OpenSea with a starting price of 300 DUST or 0.5 ETH. A rare space ships, with five copies, will sell for 15 ETH, while an unique one will be sold through an open auction.

Cometh is a space game, but above all it’s gamified DeFi product. They describe themselves as a ‘DeFi powered game with yield generating NFT’. Active players can mine MUST tokens using their spaceships, and a share of all NFT sales gets distributed as asteroids back into the game. That way Cometh really is a mix from a game and a DeFi product.
