Chosen are a selection of special character NFTs for Civitas. They consist of four archetypes, Zola, Ninşiku, Bhaltair, K-47, Suong, and M42111N. These are PFP style, generative character NFTs that offer a number of bonuses to those who hold them.

First off, a perk that has already begun — airdrops. Owners of Chosen NFTs receive monthly airdrops of Ever Crystals. Ever Crystals will be used in the game to buff up land plots. Crystals exist as NFTs, so players can freely sell and trade them.

Chosen holders also have access to exclusive community channels, and will be part of the early access playtest in Q1 of 2023. Chosen are needed to play certain portions of the augmented reality / geo-location portion of the game. They also provide additional rewards from mini-games and other reward-based activities.

The initial mint for the Chosen has ended, but interested players can buy them on Open Sea. Some of the archetypes have not yet been revealed, and these show as ‘Arriving from the Ever’. The details for these unrevealed NFTs should be unveiled over the coming weeks.

Chosen Bonuses In-Game

As for in-game utility, Chosen provide Blessings to cities. These Blessings are unique to each archetype, last only for a limited time, and include a cooldown between uses. Cities will want to have as many Blessings active as they can get, which should create a demand for Chosen.

Chosen also open up the option of Expeditions. Expeditions allow players to find resources and NFTs that are normally only accessible via the augmented reality portion of the game. Players may send multiple Chosen on an Expedition to increase the odds of good rewards. In addition, players need Chosen for crafting and other land related tasks. Players may own and use multiple Chosen NFTs in order to get more done. For those who don’t want to use their Chosen, there will also be a rental market via a Job Board. This gives access to Chosen characters to those who don’t own one of the NFTs, and potentially provide passive income to those who do.

Civitas prepares to launch their first official character mint this week. This mint will be for characters known as The Chosen. It begins with a Dutch auction on October 4th. This will be the second set of Character NFTs. Though the first, the Shaman, were given away through various events and rewards.

But what role does a single character play in a town building game? Well, for Civitas, the current purpose, or utility, of their characters is to be the recipient of airdrops. Specifically, periodic airdrops of Ever Fragments.

Ever Fragments and Crystals

What are Ever Fragments? Ever Fragments are NFTs that players combine to make Ever Crystals. When generated, each Crystal comes with its own set of traits and attributes. And those come into effect when players use Crystals to mint a land plot, or installed them as a land booster during gameplay. When used to mint lands, the Crystals are burned, and their traits and attributes are fed into the procedural land generator, affecting the ultimate results.

The attributes from the land plots will be in turn fed into the Unreal engine, so players will see their unique, procedurally generated plots in-game!

Players can still mint lands without Crystals, but those minted with the help of Ever Crystals have a better chance at receiving a rarer plot with more and/or better resources.

These lands plots are used in game and their stats and resources will have an effect on gameplay. Players also have the option of enhancing their land plot by slotting a Crystals into it. This will provide bonuses based on the Crystal’s attributes, but the bonuses will not be as great as when used during a land mint.

Both Ever Fragments and Ever Crystals exist as NFTs that can be traded on third party markets. Fragments will only be created as airdrops to holders of Chosen characters.

Blankos Season One

Blankos Block Party rocks into Season One with new classes, new perks, a new Party Pass, new Blankos collections, and even a new basic, starting Blanko (making the old, red Blanko a kind of collector’s item!) Life Beyond After Alpha Party

Life Beyond closes down their first alpha phase with a huge after party on October 12th. Incorporating the lore into the gameplay is a big part of Life Beyond. So, to celebrate the accomplishments of the players in clearing an area for the initial settlement on Dolos, the DEEP Agency will be hosting a special, in-game gathering. Though only open to holders of any of the Key NFTs from Life Beyond, Keys can be picked up from the secondary markets for very reasonable prices. You also have until October 11th to participate in the current alpha missions and earn experience and other potential rewards.

Mouse Haunt Dodge Ball PvP

On October 4th, Mouse Haunt Dodge Ball plans to launch their first PvP experience. Mouse Haunt Dodge Ball is a game about mice, playing dodgeball, and then coming back to haunt each other when they are defeated! Basically, a MOBA style game with some unique features. Players collect cannonballs, and try to hit the enemy heroes, depleting their shields and stunning them. Register on their site to receive early access. Private Beta 2 Launched for Illuvium Arena

Illuvium Private Beta 2 brings a major update to the auto-battler game. Illuvium Arena is only part of the planned Illuvium universe. The current alpha for Illuvium Arena is a PvE, auto-battler where players field a team of creatures against a selection of foes. After each successful battle, new foes appear and the player has a chance to change and upgrade their team composition. Players compete to see who can survive the most waves of enemies and earn a spot on top of the daily leaderboards.

Voxie Tactics Season 0

Voxie Tactics Season 0 launches on October 10th, with weekly leaderboards, a rental system, and opportunities to play and earn. This squad-based, fantasy, tactical combat game could solidify itself as a long-term web3 game. We’ve seen the rental markets for some games implemented with lackluster results, but Voxie Tactics may be in the right gaming space to make it work. MetalCore Open World Alpha

We haven’t seen any massive FPS games in the web3 space yet, and MetalCore looks to be the first! With a strong semblance to the old Planetside game, MetalCore promises a sci-fi, team-based shoot-em-up where players can play as ground troops or pilot a vehicle or mech as they battle across various maps. MetalCore received positive reviews from their recent demo at PAX West. Expect to see the first chances to play in their alpha in early October.

Civitas Character mint

Though they recently launched an alpha version of a game called Machines Arena on Steam, the Civitas team turns back to their primary game and prepares for their first Character Mint. The mint starts on October 4th and features two Character types, several archetypes, a whitelist mint, and a Dutch auction! All the info about the mint is here.

The Sandbox Alpha Season 3 Special events

The third season of The Sandbox is still on for the whole month of October and many events with special rewards will be running. Besides the general season rewards, many special events are held around different partners. There are rewards for specific avatar holders, but also more events open to all for chances to earn NFTs or even $SAND prizes.

Characters in Civitas are unique, curated, profile picture type NFTs that also exist as fully animated 3d game models. These character NFTs have a role to play in-game, while also offering a number of out-of-game bonuses. These include early game access, airdrops, and the potential for future whitelisting. In-game, players assign Characters to land plots, use them to enhance buildings, or send them out on quests and events.

Character Mint

This first Character mint for Civitas focuses mostly their newly revealed Character, known as Chosen. Chosen come in five archetypes, though we have only been shown one, Zola the Warrior. Overall, there will be 4800 total characters for sale, including 350 Shaman (the first 50 Shaman were given away in contests).

The sale kicks off with a Dutch auction on October 4th. Mint price starts at 4 ETH. Over the next 48 hours, the price drops. Rapidly at first, but leveling out after a while, before finally settling at 0.3 ETH at the end of this round. Each wallet is limited to minting a maximum of 3 NFTs.

After the Dutch Auction comes the whitelist mint. For anyone who jumped into the Civitas Discord early and received an OG Nomad or Primigenius Discord role, there is a special whitelist sign-up page. Those on the whitelist are allowed a single mint at 0.25 ETH. The whitelist sale lasts for 24 hours. The Civitas team is also having other contests for whitelist spots, so follow them on Twitter and join their Discord for opportunities.

Any Character NFTs that remain after that go into a 24-hour public sale at a price point of 0.3 ETH.

It’s unclear if all of the NFTs will be available during the Dutch auction, or if the release of the different archetypes will be staggered in some way. Hopefully, we’ll get some more information on that front over the coming weeks.

Building a game can take a while. And many blockchain games have adapted a mechanic to keep their initial investors engaged and interested. This often involves building a Discord or web-based game, usually related to the main game in some manner. But Civitas has chosen to go a different route, creating a top down, multiplayer, online, battle arena game in the Unreal engine to showcase their developers’ abilities!

This game is called The Machines Arena.

The Machines Arena

The Machines Arena is a quick, action-packed, MOBA game pitting two teams of four players against each other. Wielding weapons such as guns, lasers, and flamethrowers, players fight in matches that typically take 5-10 minutes. The game looks nice and plays smoothly.

The game is still in development and flagged as early access on Steam. And though officially in ‘closed beta’, to play, all you have to do is click the request access button on their Steam game page. Though the game still has some rough edges, and the current playerbase is small, overall, the response has been positive.

The game takes up about 20 gigs of hard drive space, and requires a Windows 10 or newer operating system. Players can find the game at the Steam store web link (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1539860/The_Machines_Arena/), or by searching for it in the Steam client.

The Machines Arena is not a blockchain game and does not include NFTs or any tokens or built-in rewards, though they are currently keeping a leaderboard, with Steam gift cards as prizes for the top finishers.

The name Civitas is derived from the Latin word “Citizen.” Civitas is a 4X strategy game built on blockchain technology. The four strategies of a 4X game are Explore, Exploit, Expand and Exterminate. The game focuses on community-driven architecture where thousands of players cooperate to build a player-controlled city. Players can own lands, build their resources, create their own banking systems, harvest crops, and help evolve the cities both socially and economically. 

Building on your land will earn you CITI tokens – the official token of Civitas. Citizens of a city have the right to vote on governance decisions of the city, financial models, treasury issues, trading, and rewards. Civitas is a fully decentralized game built on Ethereum and powered by a L2 solution for in-game assets. The game is still in its very early stage of development and there are no detailed roadmap available yet.

The whole virtual world will be made up of multiple cities, and each city can be governed independently through a subDAO. In addition, each city will have a tower that will display statistics about city performance, global diplomacy, resource yield rates, business stats, and other progress parameters. The game also has augmented reality facilities, and players can experience the world of Civitas through the AR portal on AR-enabled mobile devices. This portal will allow you to play mini-games, collect resources and earn CITI tokens. This makes Civitas the first blockchain game that will allow both in-game and IRL gameplay. The game’s beta version is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2023.

Gameplay

The Civitas game has a top-down strategy with an option to zoom in on micro lands. There will be multiple lands across cities. Through real-world geolocation technology, players can utilize the map to locate assets or resources worldwide and participate in activities. Each city will have unique looks, and multiple styles will coexist. Players can play mini-games, collect and craft items, locate, buy or stake lands inside the game. You are free to build your structures, produce items, gather resources, and do anything that will help develop the city. The game will have a PvP system in which cities compete against other cities over specific objectives. You can form alliances and battle with players from other cities.

 Unlike games like Clash of Clans, you cannot completely loot a city, and there is no pay-to-win mechanics. This is because the developers don’t want a situation in which one city completely dominates over all others. Each character in the game will be a warrior-looking NFT with different traits and abilities useful for combat. Players have to craft tools and items which will increase the strength of their character NFTs. The NFTs are currently in production, and the developers have not yet announced a release date. The game will be available both on mobile devices and PC.

Citizen or Nomad?

You can either play as a Citizen or as a Nomad in Civitas. Once you hold CITI tokens and acquire a land NFT, you will become a Citizen. As a citizen, you will have the exclusive power to participate in subDAO governance, vote for council members, and access Towers. On the other hand, you can customize your plot of land without being a citizen. In that case, you will be called a Nomad. However, in the future, you can own a plot of land and become a citizen. Players will be Nomad in the free version of the game with access to the land building, harvesting, crafting, and all other features except that you won’t be a part of the subDAO. In short, you would not hold any voting power.

What is subDAO in Civitas?

The subDAO is a decentralized autonomous organization that is the governance model for each city in Civitas. Players can participate in the DAO if they hold CITI tokens and vote on important decisions made by the city council. The subDAO is an independent government of a city consisting of the Jus Honorum Council made up of players voted into position by citizens. The subDAO will allow citizens to vote out these members, become a member themselves, and vote against the council’s financial, social, or economic decisions. It will also hold the treasury to reward citizens for contributions. The subDAO will also be able to do its own staking within the city.

Tokenomics

CITI is an ERC-20 compatible token that serves as the governance and utility token of Civitas. Owners of CITI tokens will have the right to vote on governance proposals of the game. The sole currency of the subDAO is the CITI token. Since a subDAO governs each city, the citizens can decide on staking mechanisms and how rewards will be distributed. Players can earn CITI by playing mini-games and participating in in-game activities.

The Team

Civitas is developed by Directive Games, a gaming studio founded in 2014 consisting of talented gaming veterans from renowned gaming companies like Ubisoft, Square Enix, Tencent, DICE, and CCP games. Kent Byers is the game director and project lead, while Andreas Axelsson is the CTO. The team has three offices in Shanghai, Los Angeles, and Reykjavik, besides collaborators and contractors worldwide. 

Directive Games is a pioneer in AR games and has showcased the technology at various events. Civitas is Directive Games’ first blockchain game, which will be the primary focus in the future.
