In the midst of May Mayhem and their ongoing playtest, Champions Arena brings us their first NFT sale for their game. This sale features Nexus NFTs, which allow owners to rent out their Champions, and Estate NFTs, a sort of guild hall for the game.

Champions Arena kicked off their open beta playtest last week and now bring us a sale for both Nexus and Estate NFTs.

Nexus and Estate NFTs and Sale Info

Players who own a Nexus can attach their Champion NFTs to it. Other players can then access these Champions, with a portion of their victory points earned going back to the Nexus owner. In addition, Nexus bundles also come with a limited edition, Legendary Champion named Veronika, who sports some serious under-boob. She is a crowd control type hero, able to reduce the opposing team’s speed and turn gauge while also protecting herself from attacks.

As an extra bonus, holders of Nexus NFTs will receive additional, airdropped NFTs during any future Nexus sales. But Nexus NFTs comes with a serious price tag. Nearly $2k USD ($1950) to be exact! This seems a bit on the expensive side. Which, unfortunately, is kind of par for the course for projects on the Gala Games ecosystem. And locking the ability to rent out owned NFTs behind a two thousand dollar paywall is very atypical of the current web3 trends. However, with only 300 NFTs available, this is a pretty limited edition. So it could very well sell out.

This is actually a double sale, also featuring Estate NFTs. Estates function as guild halls, holding from 20 to 100 guild members based on its level. Estates contain various facilities players used for summoning and upgrading Champions, as well as crafting gear. Estate owners will able to level these facilities up to higher ranks than the available, free options.

However, this Estate sale is not open to everyone. Only players who purchase a Nexus NFT will have access to purchasing Estates during this sale. Estates will cost $2,000 each. Nexus owners will get to try out Estate management in the current playtest (which runs through May 17th), whether or not they purchase an Estate.

The sale for both items runs for a week, starting at 8pm CST on May 8th, and ending at 8pm CST on May 16th. These NFTs will be available on the Gala Games store once the sale begins. Interested parties can pay with ETH, GALA, or credit card.

Spider Tanks isn’t the only game holding a special event for May Mayhem. In fact, pretty much every game in the Gala Games portfolio has an event or special announcement this month. And best of all, almost all of these games are accessible to anyone with a Gala Games account!

We already covered the play and earn opportunities for Spider Tanks this month. So let’s take a look at some of the other offerings from Gala Games in May!

May Mayhem

Town Star relaunches their game on a new game engine called Godot. They will also be adding new content and holding weekly competitions throughout the month. Players can earn rewards by playing in May, with larger rewards for those who place at the top of the competitions.

Champions Arena has an ongoing playtest that extends into May. They have also said to expect the first ever Champions Arena NFT sale sometime this month.

GRIT, an FPS with a western theme plans to open up on a 24/7 basis for everyone with a Gala Games account. This is a huge leap forward for a game that until now, has only been open for a couple of hours a week.

Echoes of Empire just closed their five day playtest, but the team has hinted that there will be some ‘extra special excitement’ in May for EoE. Hopefully it will be a new playtest or beta announcement rather than another sale!

Mirandus will bring us another playtest in May with more goblin killing, and a huge bounty for whoever gets the first kill on their new Boss creature.

Superior should open up as free to play for everyone in May. And Legends Reborn which is already in an open playtest, promises to bring special competitions for venue owners in the coming weeks.

Gala Games also mentions two mobile games that should connect to the web3 world soon – Meow Match and Dragon Strike. These both came from their acquisition of the mobile developer Ember Entertainment earlier this year.

Also keep your eyes open for further news from Walking Dead: Empires, VOX, and Last Expedition!

What is Gala Games?

Gala Games is a rapidly growing web3 ecosystem. In addition to their stable of web3 games, Gala Games has expanded into mobile gaming as well. They have also launched projects for distributing Music and Film as NFTs!

Gala Games is building their own blockchain known as GYRI, on which all of their apps and games will live in the future.

Champions Arena opens another free to play, public playtest for their turn-based strategy game. And this time, it includes rewards for those who play regularly, complete campaign chapters, and top the arena leaderboards!

The playtest is open to everyone. You don’t even need a Gala account! However, if you want to receive the rewards from this playtest, you will need to participate using your Gala login. Creating a Gala account is free.

This playtest offers three different play and earn opportunities. First off, players will receive Gems simply for logging in and playing for at least three days. These rewards range from $10 to $80 worth of Gems based on the number of days you played. Players also receive Gems for completing chapters from the campaign and for placing in the top 50 of the Arena leaderboards at the end of the playtest. Unfortunately, these Gems will be in-game items only. But, they will provide a nice starting boost when the game releases.

In addition, Champions Arena has added ton of new content. There are many new Champions and a number of features have been updated and re-balanced. This playtest also includes the first look at Estates, a home base for your Champions. Champions Arena plans to hold an NFT sale for Estates next week. Details on that should be available soon. Estates are where players summon and dismantle Champions and craft equipment. Those who don’t have their own Estate can access the public one that is available to everyone.

This playtest runs from Thursday, April 27, 2023 8 PM CST through Wednesday, May 17, 2023 8 PM CST. You can access Champions Arena at https://app.gala.games/games/champions-arena

Over the last couple of weeks, Gala has revealed a number of new projects, with many of the announcements coming from their Galaverse II event. And it wasn’t all just about NFT sales! Gala also added a new NFT Film project, as well as several additional games. Though we have very little information about most of these projects, let’s do a rundown of what we do know.

Since we already covered Gala Films in a separate article, I won’t say much about them here. But I do want to note that Gala now has a games division, a film project, and a music group, all focused on utilizing NFTs! Some are worried that they may be spreading themselves too thin. But so far, they seem to have done a good job of running their own in-house projects while incorporating outside teams into their ecosystem.

And they do receive some rightful flak for having more sales and announcements about new games without delivering on any of their older titles. But, it feels like Gala Games, and the larger blockchain gaming space as a whole, is poised on the brink of delivering the next generation of quality, blockchain games to an eager gaming audience.

So, let’s take a look at four new games recently announced by Gala.

Freestyle Football 2

Freestyle Football 2 banner
Freestyle Football 2

A third person football game (soccer for any Americans reading this) with a cast of wacky characters. The Freestyle game franchise has been around for quite a while. It’s nice to see an already existing game company moving into the blockchain universe. I look forward to seeing what they do with this game. Though we don’t have much in the way of official announcements, it seems like this game won’t need a Founder’s vote? Release date listed as TBD.

Champions Arena

Champions Arena bills itself as a turn based RPG. With over 100 Champions and items, Champions Arena seems to combine idle clicker with deck building and RPG style, turn-based battles. Players send Champions into battle, aiding them with equipment, spell, and skill cards. Players also customize their Champions with gear and powerful auras. The game promises PvE, PvP, guild brawls, and story campaigns. Those attending the Galaverse event received a special preview of the game, and initial reports are encouraging.

Forever Winter

Forever Winter is a third person shooter by a team called Fun Dog Studios. Release date is listed as ‘after 2023’. I guess this one has already been accepted into the Gala Games ecosystem, as they had a flash sale for Forever Winter Ancient Bunkers in early June. We do not yet have any more information about this game.

Betwixt NFT

Betwixt sample

Part game, part generative artwork. Betwixt offers owners of their NFTs a chance to engage in a series on eleven quests. Their decisions along the way shaping and altering the NFT. In this way, every NFT is unique and directly connected to their owner.

If someone sells a Betwixt NFT, the game resets, but the previous owner’s progress and artwork is saved and stored in the NFT’s history! This is definitely an interesting and unusual NFT collection. One in which the founders hope that owners will find some self discovery.

Minting for Betwixt NFTs begins on July 11th for those whitelisted for the presale. Public sale starts on July 12th.

What is Gala Games?
