What’s Blockchain Brawlers?

Blockchain Brawlers is a wrestling action card game in the WAX blockchain. If that sounds confusing I will break it down. Players will need certain NFTs to play it, so it is not a F2P game. The required NFTs are:

• 1 Brawler
• 8 Cards
• 3 Moves

After acquiring these NFTs, players can start ‘Brawling’ on the official website.

In this game, players will have to select cards that represent their Brawler’s moves or ‘fold’. When selecting moves players are somehow betting that those moves, performed by their brawler, will outplay the opponent’s brawler. After players select their cards the match will begin, all cards will be faced up, and the player with the strongest cards wins. The brawler from the player who lost the round will take damage. If they fold, they will lose that round and the respective brawler will take damage.

It’s like poker, but with wrestling moves instead. Also, after each round players get to see their brawlers performing the moves they chose.

Once again the bear market makes its effects felt. This time it’s with the core WAX team. But, even though they had to layoff and restructure, WAX still feels confident about the future!

The Future of WAX

WAX Blockchain has several divisions that are paramount to its existence as a whole. They gave us a rundown of each one and their plans for the future. 

Core WAX Blockchain Protocol

WAX had been working closely with the Antelope Coalition, which stays the same. This will help WAX enhance its Antelope stack and proprietary Wax Blockchain protocols. Also, the tooling will be upgraded for both. Tokenomics are being looked into to reduce inflation and to improve WAXP token utility. They also want to implement USD pegging. USD pegging for block producer and standby rewards.. 

By the 2nd and 3rd Quarters of 2023, Inter Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol is expected to be implemented, improving scalability and native compatibility with other chains and to facilitate connectivity with chains based on Antelope. Moreover, to better utilize sparse resources, dApps would be able to run independently. Then comes the launch of EVM, which will be a component of the Antelope stack to allow cross accessibility from external developers, enabling hassle-free migration of their projects onto WAX. 

Moreover, the impending upgrade to the stellar Antelope Instant Finality would be made, bringing the WAX Blockchain finality time from the sky-high 3 minutes to an impressive 2 seconds. This would be a game changer, simplifying the process of composing Web3 applications. 

Finally, more updates shall see the light, including upgrades to their resource model. The Antelope Scalability+ enhancements should allow the creation and operation of over a billion accounts! This is to take place in 2023 and is ultimately aimed at maintaining WAX as a robust transaction system. 

WAX Cloud Wallet

Cloud Wallet is one of the key areas of improvement which will be overhauled. As WAX is primarily a transaction system, there will be a complete makeover of the wallet system. It includes improvement its core functionality, a refreshed user experience and adding protections to its stringent security layers. 

To make the wallet more accessible, several gaps will be bridged through Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain. Other EVM chains will follow suit after that. This will dramatically enhance WAX’s reach to the masses. In addition, a scoring system will be introduced to identify bots. This will be done by dApp’s whitelisting scoring system. 

Currently, users can’t claim their accounts when left unused for some time. This will be changed through a Cloud Wallet browser plug-in. Then there’s the social wallet to explore newer avenues related to brand new projects, allowing newfound interaction amongst creators, and sending waves of content to WAX’s users. 

A robust multichain system is the core requirement for the cloud wallet’s restructuring. Simply said, this will calibrate the already inbuilt cloud wallet features to be compatible with multitudes of other blockchains. As a result, users can easily access other blockchains. 

vIRL Marketplace

vIRL Marketplace will also begin the integration of multichain support for several currencies, but primarily Ethereum. dApp developers will benefit from much better access to add marketplace functions into their apps. Even Unity SDK will be closely knit with the marketplace sometime during the 3rd or the 4th quarter. 

Socialization is a big thing in the new restructuring, which a social marketplace will facilitate. It means more users, more connections and more interested creators. Empowering users is one of the goals of WAX, and that will be taken care of quite aptly with these new features in the marketplace. 

The core tooling components

WAX aims at user friendliness and enterprise-level agreeability with its entire ecosystem. Especially when it comes to integrating with Custodial Service Providers for better business overall. The authenticity of reporting information is another thing that needs to be paid attention to, and WAX is not slacking off on it. So, it will work with reporting services to bring out a clearer picture for the entirety of WAX’s ecosystem activity. 

Gaming will also see a boost with built-in compatibility of the cloud wallet with the Unity SDK, which will also be introduced 2023. This will allow developers to easily on-board new users and interact with smart contracts.

What about Tyranno Game Studios? 

Tyranno Game Studios, the premier Web3 studio, will continue to develop their games.

For Blockchain Brawlers, the ability to buy NFTS in-game with BRWL, WAXP, and credit cards will be implemented this year. Other staking and minting of NFT-related improvements shall be done as well. The noted highlight however would be the B.E.S.T. or the Brawlers Esports Series Tournaments. The first of these should launch soon.

Additionally, Music Mogul will have its MVP game launched sometime early next year

Finally, a new mobile app and new clients for Mac and Windows users will be available for the smoothest experience possible.

Smackdown and Raw left the television and just arrived at the Wax Blockchain! Blockchain Brawlers, designed by Richard Garfield, the creator of Magic the Gathering: Arena, is now open to everyone. Players can now begin their wrestling careers and start Brawling.

For that, user authentication was integrated. This means that players can log in with their Wax Wallets and all their Wrestling history will be registered on the Blockchain. Unfortunately, players can not stake and bet the token $BRWL on PvP. $BRWL integration will come on Dec 16th, accordingly to their Roadmap, and players will be able to bet on their win. This will be the only way to earn the game’s token in the future. For now, there are three PVP Modes: Exhibition VS Bots, Ranked, and ‘Join/Host’.

Then besides this, the team also added the Swag Kits which you can purchase in the BCB’s shop for 178 $WASP to make your wrestlers look cooler. MMR was implemented. By winning or losing, players will climb or descend on a ranked ladder. Wins against bots no longer grant MMR. Last but not least, players can buy NFTs and $BRWL with a credit card.

Accordingly to the team, around Q1 of 2023, a 2nd PvP game mode will come out. This will be an auto-chess game mode where brawlers will participate in a ‘Royal Rumble’ format.

How to play Blockchain Brawlers?

Since this is a WAX game players will need a WAX wallet like the WAX cloud wallet. Besides this, Blockchain Brawlers is not a free-to-play game, which means that players need to spend crypto on NFTs to play it. To begin with, players will need the following assets just to get started:

• 1 Brawler
• 8 Cards
• 3 Moves

For that, users can purchase Starter Packs on either Open Sea or the VIRL Marketplace for the floor price of 0.15 $ETH.

After that, players just need to go to their official website, connect their wallets, and start Brawling.

What is Blockchain Brawlers?

Blockchain Brawlers is a Wrestling game with cards. Matches, just like in Wrestling in real life, are between two wrestlers, which in this game are NFTs. Each player, besides owning a Wrestler, also has cards that represent the Wrestler’s moves. The cards are drawn from a deck and then, every round, each player bets with the cards they have at hand.

At the end of the round, cards will be revealed and the wrestler with the winning hand will deal damage to the other wrestler. Wrestlers have 25 health points and when their health is depleted, the corresponding player loses the match.

It’s quite an interesting game. When I first heard about Blockchain Brawlers I thought it was an action game. But I was far from the truth. This is more of a strategy/gambling game other than action. The Wax wrestling game, Blockchain Brawlers, has been around for quite some time and having a revamped game developed by someone as successful in web2 as Garfield might positively impact the project. This will bring more players to this play-to-own universe and more users to the blockchain Wax.

Revamping the ecosystem will also create a more diverse player base. On one side there will be wrestling fans and on the other side there will be card game fans, which will be beneficial for the project’s growth.

Meanwhile, Michael Rubinelli, Chief Gaming Officer at Tyranno Studios shared his vision about a competitive new game when he said:

‘We have a matchmaking ranking (MMR) system in place, and soon league play will start where we will be hosting global competitions with incredible prizing. We expect these events to be live-streamed and sponsored in the future, replete with shoutcasters.’

Sponsored tournaments are a growth strategy and a way to reward players that are starting to be used more and more in the NFT Gaming space.

How to Play Blockchain Brawlers

The Brawlers which exist in the form of NFTs are the fighters that will be present in the ring. Each brawler has twenty Health Points and the match will end when one of the Brawlers’ health is depleted.

To perform moves and eventually outplay the opponent players must also play with their cards in a poker-like game.

Each player gets three cards from their deck. When the match begins players have to either bet with one, two, or three or fold. This is like in a poker game where players have different bets. To play a card a player must select it to be shown face up while the other card stays face down. If the face-down card has a lower value this is called ‘flexing’ which is identical to bluffing in a real poker game.

If the opponent folds during a regular hand, then damage will be dealt to his Brawler. The amount of damage will be equal to the Power Meter (one, two or three). If the winning hand was ‘flexed’ then one extra damage point will be dealt. So for example, if the winning hand’s Power Meter was at two and the winning hand was ‘flexed’, then three points of damage will be dealt to the opponent ( 2(Power Meter) + 1(‘Flexed’) = 3). But if a player ‘flexes’ and the opponent ‘calls’ and matches the bet, then the player who ‘flexed’ will lose.

When betting players must take three mains decisions:

• Bet or fold
• Bet size (one, two, or three)
• If both players bet and the amount is not the same, then the player with the lower bet must either call and match the bet of his opponent, or fold

As soon as bets are matched or a player folds the Showdown will begin. During this phase, both players’ cards are revealed.

The player with the higher amount of points in his cards deals damage to the opponent and will not get damaged. The amount of damage dealt will be equal to the size of the bet multiplied by the power meter (Example: If the bet was 2 and the power meter 2 then: 2*2=4 points of damage).

By winning, players will earn valuable assets that can be used to upgrade their cards. The odds of winning matches will depend on players’ cards and skills.

• One Taunt

For open beta, Blockchain Brawlers enters a new era. The previous phase was known as the Mining Phase, during which players passively earned BRWL tokens by staking their Ring and Gear NFTs. But now that the Mining Phase has ended, Rings and Gear NFTs no longer have a use case. And so, Blockchain Brawlers introduces a limited time burn event.

During this event, players can burn their extra NFTs to receive tickets for a chance to win one of fifty, “Billion Dollar” Swag Kits! This event only lasts for a few days, so start burning those NFTs!

The beta starts on September 20th, at 1pm PST. This open beta is still a testing phase, so no tokens, NFTs, or experience points will be awarded. For open beta, the Blockchain Brawlers team has fixed a bunch of bugs, made some interface improvements, and added a few quality of life features. But, the real draw with this release is the PvP!

PvP in Blockchain Brawlers

Blockchain Brawlers PvP is a poker-style card game where players make bets, fold, Flex, increase their power meter, and try to bring their opponent’s health down to zero. Designed by Richard Garfield, Blockchain Brawlers features special attacks and finishing moves to use when you beat your opponent. For full details on how to PvP in Blockchain Brawlers, read this official blog post.

During the closed beta test, players tended towards a defensive strategy, often folding repeatedly during the first few turns. To counter this turtle strategy, the team has added power bonuses to 1 and 3 power cards to encourage more attacks. Players who use these cards and win the round deal some extra damage to their opponent. And then, to counterbalance this push to more aggressive strategies, player health has increased to 25 (from 20).

This new round of beta also brings some new PvP features. When players win a hand, they can select a special attack and see it enacted in the ring. At the moment, these are limited to Eye Poke, Face Slap, Knife Edge, Thigh Kick, Straight Kick, Uppercut, and Cyclone Uppercut. These are mostly the more common attack types. The full range of attack moves will be included at a later point. Players can also choose from a limited selection of Finishers when they win a match. These are Straight pin, Rollover Pin, Super Kick, and Doomsday Piledriver.

To participate in PvP , players will need cards numbered one (1) through eight (8), a Common Attack and at least one (1) Taunt and one (1) Finisher.

Brawl-O-Seum Crafting

And hot on the heels of the open beta comes the release of the BRAWL-O-SEUM crafting. Players who own BRAWL-O-SEUMS can craft NFT packs. Diamond landowners can craft as many as 25 packers a day! A new crafting screen shows your arena(s), their experience level, and how many crafting packs they have left for the day as well as a bunch of switches and dials.

But it’s not just about clicking a few buttons. Players have some choices when crafting packs. They can take the low risk, guaranteed common pack, or they can take a chance and try to craft a pack with a higher rarity. This option becomes available when a player levels their BRAWL-O-SEUM up to level 25. The higher level the arena, the greater the chance for a rarer card. Players can also spend Gold to increase their success chances. The center panel will show details on your crafting attempt.

Packs that are crafted by players can also be outfitted with custom skins. This is something interesting that I haven’t seen before. And though there is no definitive value to owning an NFT pack with a different skin, players do like customizations and special items! The items in these packs will consist of playing cards, attack moves, taunt moves, and finishers. These items can only be generated by crafting, making this a true player economy.

Players will be able to upgrade cards as well. Combine multiples of one rarity to receive a random car of the same type of the next highest rarity. This is a fairly typical feature, but the randomness of the upgraded card makes it more difficult to follow a specific upgrade path.

Crafting and upgrading in Blockchain Brawlers should kick off on September 21st.

In the initial phase of Blockchain Brawlers, players have been staking their Brawlers and Rings to earn BRWL tokens. But the pool for BRWL tokens is rapidly shrinking. And once it’s gone, there are no more BRWL tokens to mine! In fact, if you have any Ring or Gear assets, you should use them now. Once the mining phase ends, they will have no use at all!

Though, of course, isn’t it just a business decision to make those assets useless? It doesn’t have to be that way, right? Right?

BRAWL-O-SEUM Diamond NFTs

But anyway, Blockchain Brawlers has another NFT to sell you! It’s called a “BRAWL-O-SEUM Diamond” and it will be required for some an exclsuive crafting game that will come before the launch of PvP. In this game, players who own the Diamond NFTs will be able to craft special packs with moves and taunts for the Brawlers. They’ll have to spend resources and level up as part of making the packs. However, once, created, they can sell these packs on the marketplace.

And, only these players make and sell these items, making this part a true player driven economy. I imagine these Diamonds will be in high demand! The BRAWL-O-SEUM sale is set for July 19th with more info to be released on July 7th.

Aligned with this sale is the upcoming addition of a BRWL Store. This store allows for player to player sales using the BRWL token, and will apparently also host the offical NFT BRAWL-O-SEUM sale.

Series 2 Brawlers and PvP Mode

Also with the end of mining comes the closing of Series 1 crafting. Series 2 Brawlers are on the roadmap, but NFT crafting will be shut down for at least 30 days when the mining phase ends. Series 2 Brawlers are not as strong as Series 1, but they are meant as a way for new players to get into the game.

The PvP game for Blockchain Brawlers, designed by Richard Garfield, is nearly ready for release. Richard Garfield is best known for making a little card game called Magic: The Gathering. You may have heard of it. PvP mode in Blockchain Brawlers features two players going head to head, making choices that affect the outcome of the match. Presumably those cards from the BRAWL-O-SEUM will be important. They also hope to add a two-player, tag-team option in the future.

Set to launch at the end of summer 2022, the PvP game should also introduce additional use cases for BRWL tokens and Gold.

Let’s not lie to ourselves, a lot of the current blockchain games are difficult to navigate, especially when you are just starting out. The Wax Game Studio team has been working hard to make sure that the user experience is as flawless as possible.

The game flow takes place in only four different screens:

• The battle arena, where the brawlers brawl
• The locker room, where you find your inventory
• The crafting screen, where you will craft items and brawlers
• The marketplace to buy and sell the game items

New players will be welcomed by Ref Jee who will show them around in a quick tutorial to learn the basics of the game.

From the home screen you will be able to pick your ring and brawlers and go straight into a match. The other screens are always accessible via 3 persistent tabs at the bottom of the interface. On the top right corner, users have a quick access to their wallet and will be able to swap $BRAWL tokens for $WAXP without leaving the game.

The fighting screen is where you will pick your brawlers and the ring in which the match will take place. We can see that brawlers can be equipped with different items to give them extra power and skills. We can also see directly from this screen the health status and cooldown time of the Brawlers. A pretty good looking and slick interface if you ask me!

The inventory interface is where you will select the Brawler to send to the ring and where you can equip them with the different items you own. Here again, the team has put a lot of efforts in the user experience design. All the elements are clearly visible and don’t require extra steps of navigation to perform basic actions.

The crafting system looks pretty intuitive as well. You will be presented the brawlers that are ready for you to craft depending on the resources available. You will then just need to select the one you prefer and press the craft button, easy!

An Update on Blockchain Brawlers’ Economy

In a recent medium post, Mike Rubinelli, the head of the newly created Wax Game Studio, shared the team’s vision on the game’s economy and play-to-earn mechanics. Although he did not provide specific details on the earnings, he gave the community some deep insights on how his team is crafting a player driven economy.

With a limited supply of 1,050 brawlers at the beginning of the game, the team wants the players to truly own the game’s assets. They want you to brawl, earn, craft and repeat. The economy will then be in the hands of the players through the marketplace and secondary markets.

The other reason for a launch with a limited number of players is to give time to the team to study the players’ behaviours in order to make adjustments if necessary before things get out of control with a wider user-base. Quite a smart approach to make sure that they are building a sustainable economy for everyone.

Mike also discuss their plans to avoid the game to be ruled by bots. They will make sure that player’s decisions will be the key to being successful and they will bring regular gameplay updates. With these two measures alone, a repetitive piece of code should not be able to get very far in the game.

Crafting will be key to your progression in the game. Every in-game items will be craftable, except for Legendary Brawlers. Crafting items and brawlers will require $BRWL and Gold NFTs. Gold NFTs will also be tradable on the secondary market and $BRWL tokens will be available on exchanges.

The model that the team has created doesn’t have a simple recipe for success. Higher tier brawlers will earn more $BRWL whereas common brawlers will earn more Gold NFTs. As both are needed to craft, players will have to find the right balance in their strategy. The pricing of Gold NFTs will be entirely driven by supply and demand on the marketplace.

Ric Flair Pack Sale Details

We recently announced the upcoming Ric Flair pack sale whitelist program. Here are some additional details about the upcoming sale. Supply for this sale is limited to 90 packs of 1-of-1 legendary Ric Flair brawlers.

The sale will be opened to whitelisted users on March 3rd at 1pm ET and the window will only be open for 2 hours. After that, the sale will be open to the public. Expect these packs to sell fast! Each buyer will be limited to one pack only.

Packs will sell for the equivalent of 1500 USD in WAXP (the WAXP price will be locked in the day of the sale). You might find that expensive, but considering that legendary brawlers are currently trading at around 30,000 WAX (around $8,000 at the time of writing), this is a bargain… if you can get your hands on one.

The packs will contain one “Nature Boy” Ric Flair Legendary NFT and one free Ring NFT. The Ring NFT will come in different rarity levels: Standard, Hard Core, Cage Match or Death Match. Each buyer will also have a chance of scoring a Ric Flair NFT wearing one of the three ultra-rare belts: National Champion, Word Champion and Metaverse Champion.

How to Get on the Ric Flair NFT Drop Whitelist?

The whitelist sign up process will open on February 2nd. We have no details yet on the requirements to be selected. So if you wan’t to be part of it, join the Blockchain Brawlers Discord server and follow the announcements channel.

The price of the Rick Flair packs are still unknown but, as we can see on the calendar below, should be announced on February 17th. Regular Brawlers packs should be sold for $350 to whitelisted users. So we can assume that this legendary edition will be priced higher than that.
