Interestingly, Benji Bananas did not begin as a web3 game. In fact, they launched in 2013 as a standard mobile game. But recently, they have expanded their offering to also include web3, play and earn opportunities. Now, they head into season 5 of their ‘swing and earn’ event with another round of PRIMATE tokens up for grabs!

Though the game is free to play, participating in the play to earn leaderboards requires owning a Membership Pass, currently going for ~$55 on Open Sea. Players also need to link their Google or Apple ID account, and pass identification verification with Blockpass in order to earn rewards.

Season 5 Info

This is the fifth play and earn event from Benji Bananas. In order to be eligible for the leaderboard, players must play the World Tour and complete at least 10 games. Player’s scores are weighted by various factors. The weighted categories are, furthest distance in a single race (10%), total distance during the event (20% of the score), the furthest world reached in a single game (20%), and the average number of bananas collected per game (50%).

The fifth season began on December 22nd, and runs through January 2nd, 2023, at 7pm EST. Players who hold multiple Membership Passes and/or a stack of $PRIMATE token receive multipliers on the amount of rewards they receive from this event. Players with one pass at at least 5,000 tokens receive a 1.1 multiplier. Three Passes plus 10,000 tokens rewards a 1.2 multiplier, and holding 5 or more Passes at at least 20k PRIMATE tokens provides a 1.5 bonus to all token rewards from the event.

I am continually amazed by the increased sophistication in blockchain gaming. Though stake-and-click style games are still plentiful, they are forced to offer increasingly meaningful gameplay in order to stay relevant. And the focus on making a quick buck has shifted as well. More companies are beginning to use the terms ‘play and earn’ rather than ‘play to earn’. This is an important philosophical change that will help web3 gaming mature and become more about ownership in gaming and trying new ideas rather than ROI.

Colonize Mars Mission 4 Sale

Colonize Mars launches its Mission 4 sale sometime this month. This sale is interesting in that it works via a card pool system, allowing players to buy as few, or as many cards at a time as they want. There will be four pools, each with different types of NFTs available. Prices increase as players buy cards, then decrease as the team adds more cards to the pool.

This is an intriguing idea, and it’s exciting to see something new. This should help provide value to MARTIA, the game token, as players can only buy from the card pool with MARTIA tokens. So, there should eventually be a balance between the card pools, external markets, MARTIA tokens, and WAX tokens. This will be an interesting process to watch!

Though it hasn’t been officially announced yet, Sandbox Alpha Season 3 should arrive soon, possibly this month. Mega World plans a massive, multiplayer tech demo in late August to show off the potential of their virtual world. Planet Mojo just closed a short playtest for their upcoming Mojo Melee game and is expected to open up a larger test to all Mojo holders soon. Also, Phantom Galaxies should release Episode 4 of their space-based, shoot-em-up game this month.

As we see in our weekly top play-to-earn games, casual mobile games are extremely popular, and that’s what Benji Bananas is all about. The game is available on iOS and Android and is free to play for all. But now, Animoca Brands announced the rewards campaign for their season 2. This campaign will start on July 29th at 7pm EST and will last for 10 days. The prize pool consists of 18,000,000 PRIMATE tokens which represents $360,000 at the time of writing this post with the PRIMATE token priced at $0.02. The token can be exchanged on Uniswap and Sushiswap and its main trading pair is with APE coin.

How to earn in Benji Bananas?

In order to unlock the play-to-earn features of the game, you will need to link your crypto wallet and hold a Benji Bananas NFT pass. The NFT passes are available on OpenSea, Rarible, LooksRare, and Coinbase. The floor price currently sits at around 0.1 ETH but the supply is extremely limited, so expect some price volatility leading up to the event.

In order to be eligible, you will also need to pass a KYC process via BlockPass and link your Google Play or Apple ID to your account via their website. KYC is not something we like in the space, but this is a safeguard to avoid the event and rewards being cannibalized by fake accounts. In order to make sure to be eligible, follow the step-by-step guide published by Animoca Brands on their Medium.

Holding PRIMATE tokens or multiple passes in your wallet will grant you more rewards, following the rules described below. 5 passes per wallet is the limit and holding additional passes won’t increase your earnings.

• 1x Benji Bananas Pass and at least 5,000 $PRIMATE – 1.1x multiplier on $PRIMATE rewards earned during the event phase
• 3x Benji Bananas Passes and at least 10,000 $PRIMATE – 1.2x multiplier on $PRIMATE rewards earned during the event phase
• 5x Benji Bananas Passes and at least 20,000 $PRIMATE – 1.5x multiplier on $PRIMATE rewards earned during the event phase

For this second season, the rewards will be distributed depending on your in-game performance. Below are the factors taken into account in order to distribute rewards amongst the participants.

• Average Bananas / Game (40%) — the average number of bananas collected per game during the event phase
• Average Distance / Game (40%) — the average distance achieved per game during the event phase
• World High Score (10%) — the highest world you achieved in a single game during the event phase
• Distance High Score (10%) — the furthest distance you achieved in a single game during the event phase

There are currently 2,800 NFT pass holders and with a total prize pool of $360,000, on average, each participant could earn around $128 (given the current price of the PRIMATE coin). With the NFT passes costing around 0.1 ETH. That won’t guarantee insane gains, but for skilled players, it could be an interesting investment. We also expect future reward seasons available to pass holders.
