In an interesting move, Beast Garden, a beast-owning, feeding, and fighting game on the WAX blockchain, decided to pare down their ecosystem by removing the functionality and generation of BGFOCUS. All of the game functionality is pushed into their other token, BGALPHA.

When we last took a look at Beast Garden, they had added Plant Harvesting and Beast Evolutions with a Mastermind-style mini-game. Since then they’ve made a few updates to their game, adding Beast Feeding, passive battles, and a new Battle Pass. Now, in another update, Beast Garden has decommissioned their BGFOCUS token.

In days when it seems that most blockchain games tend to be building with multiple tokens on the blockchain, it’s refreshing to see someone willing to simplify their ecosystem. And certainly, there was little need for two tokens in the Beast Garden. The game seems to be functioning just fine with one.

At the beginning of August, Beast Garden removed the generation and most of the functionality from their BGFOCUS token. No longer will Beasts in your inventory passively generate BGFOCUS. Instead, they generate BGALPHA tokens through Battle Staking and Feeding. For anyone with leftover BGFOCUS, there is still a small market for it on Alcor, or you can gather 1000 tokens and use them to start one trainer battle.

Battle Staking and Other Systems

Battle Staking interface

And speaking of battles, Beast Garden added a new version of their PvP, passive battle system. In the new system, players assemble teams of three Beasts and stake them for auto battling against other players. Teams are sorted based on the rarity of the Beasts and must be staked for 24 hours before they enter the battle queue. Once in the queue, they engage in fights every once in a while, earning BGALPHA for wins. Beasts involved in Battle Staking are removed from the player’s wallet and returned once withdrawn from the staking system.

In addition to earning tokens from battles and passive ownership, players can also feed their Beasts to generate BGALPHA tokens. Fed Beasts can’t be used for any activities for 24 hours.

Beast Garden is officially on Season 3 now and includes a new Battle Pass to go along with it. Players earn experience towards the Pass by winning Trainer battles. At each level, players receive rewards such as a bonus to token income or special Beast NFTs.

Beast Garden also includes a crafting loop, allowing players to disenchant their Beasts for Shards and then spend BGALPHA and Shards to craft new Beasts. New Beasts appear irregularly on the Crafting page and some sell out quickly. Join the Beast Garden Discord to stay up to date on the latest crafting options. A new legendary Beast is due to be released in September!

Beast Garden is currently testing a new user interface and has plans to implement tournaments in the near future.

It’s been a while since we talked about Beast Garden, a web-based creature battler game built on the WAX blockchain. Since our last article about their Water Source sale, Beast Garden also held a Plant sale, and introduced several new features, two of which we’ll cover here – Evolutions and Harvesting. Players grow and harvest Fruits from their Plants, which are then used in a Mastermind type game to Evolve beasts into new, improved versions!

Though at its heart, Beast Garden is a somewhat basic creature battler game, the team continues to add features and improvements to expand the entire experience. Aside from battles (both PvE and PvP), players can also grow crops, evolve beasts, dissolve beasts for special shards, and craft new beasts. Active players gain experience and levels as they win battles, increasing their earning potential and sometimes even receiving free NFTs!

Harvest Plants for Fun and Profit

Beast Garden Harvest
weather matters

About a month ago Beast Gardens held their first Plant sale. Plants come in the four rarities (Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary) and seven different types. Each Plant type produces different Fruits. Plants grow from 0 to 100% over the course of 7 days. Players can speed this up by watering them with BGWater (from Water Sources), though Plants can be harvested even when they aren’t at 100% growth. However, it’s not just about growing quickly. When you harvest also has implications in the results.

Getting the most from your Plants requires paying attention to the current weather conditions (in-game), and a bit of patience. Weather conditions affect harvest power, which in turn, affects how much Fruit is received from the Plants. The game features a built-in weather forecast to help growers plan ahead. In addition, each Plant type has a ‘fruit-pool’ that slowly replenishes over time and is reduced every time a player harvests from that pool. So timing Plant growth with optimal weather and pool conditions is important for getting the most from your harvests.

Generally, unless you have a very full greenhouse, the rewards from harvesting are less than one Fruit. In this case, the game keeps track of your bits of Fruit and sends out the appropriate NFT when you reach one full Fruit. Fruit NFTs can be bought, sold, and traded on Atomic Hub and other markets.

So what’s all this Fruit good for anyway? In an upcoming change, players will feed their Beasts to gain BGFocus tokens and passive BGFocus will be reduced. But, Fruits also have another use. Which brings us to the next section, Evolutions!

Evolutions

Now the reason for all this Fruit harvesting is to upgrade your Beasts. Otherwise known as Evolving in Beast Garden. Evolving requires picking an appropriate Beast from your Inventory (not all Beasts can evolve, yet), and then selecting four Fruits to feed it. Simple enough, right? But here’s the trick. You don’t know which four Fruits are the right formula for your Beast. It could be any combination — even four of the same Fruit! And no, you can’t look it up online, because the required Fruits are randomized for every NFT! This means there are a possible 2401 different combinations if I did the math right. That’s a lot of Fruit!

Beast Gardens Evolving
not bad for a first try

But wait! All is not completely hopeless! Have you ever played the board game Mastermind? Evolving plays out the same way. You have four slots to fill with specific Fruits, and you have to match the right Fruit in the right Spot.

Your first attempt is generally a random guess, though there are strategies for maximizing your results. You put in four Fruits and hope for the best. Luckily, the game provides useful feedback on your attempts. It tells you how many Fruits were the right kind in the right spot, how many were the right kind but in the wrong spot, and how many were Fruits not used for this Evolution. From there, with a little deduction and logic (and more Evolution attempts), you can work your way to the correct answer and upgrade your Beast!

Evolving attempts cost 100 BGAlpha tokens + 1000 experience (taken from the NFT). Plus all the Fruit NFTs of course. A successful Evolution burns the Beast NFT and gives the owner a new, rarer, upgraded Beast NFT.

Flying mostly under the radar, Beast Garden has quietly put together a creature battler game that already features play to earn aspects, even though its still in beta. After completing their first sale in early November for Beasts and Bounties, Beast Garden brings us a Water Source sale. With the next feature release, players will use tokens from Water Sources to grow crops and feed their Beasts.

Fighting can be a hungry business. And no animal trainer would let their pets go without food! So that brings us to the latest NFT sale from Beast Garden, the Water Source sale. This sale kicks off on December 18th, 2021, at 4pm UTC.

Water Source packs come in four sizes — Big, Medium, Small, and Mini. Packs cost a flat $11 per Water Source. Big packs hold 9, Medium packs 6, Small packs 3, and the Mini packs only a single Source. And while the price per NFT remains consistent across packs, the larger packs do have slightly greater chances for higher rarity finds.

Beast Gardens whitelist pass

Accessing this sale requires a whitelist spot. There are three levels of whitelist. Active players who were on the whitelist for their first sale should already have a Water Source whitelist pass in their wallet. Whitelist level 1 holders are guaranteed a chance to buy one pack of each size. Whitelist level 2 is called the ‘Active Players Whitelist’. Basically, if you have been playing the game, you should get on this list. The exact requirements have not been revealed, but we do know that the snapshot for this whitelist will happen on December 18th at 00:00 UTC. And finally, the third level of whitelisting simply requires filling out a form.

In addition to the regular sale, 600 packs (200 each of Big, Medium, and Small) will go up for auction on the in-game marketplace. Bidding on these packs requires BGALPHA, one of the game’s tokens. These auctions begin on December 19th and will run for a week. If any packs remain from the whitelist sale, those will also be added to the auction house.

What is a Water Source?

Beast Garden Water Sources

Players stake Water Sources to gather the BGWATER token. BGWATER helps crops in Beast Garden grow significantly faster.

Players can sell the Fruits on the market or feed them to their Beasts. When fed, the owner receives a payout of BGFOCUS, and the Beast gets a combat bonus for the next few PvE matches. Fruit will also be used in a later release to evolve pets and give them additional attack abilities.

What is Beast Garden?

Beast Garden is a play to earn, strategy game on the WAX blockchain. Players gather a stable of Beasts and pit them against opposing teams for fame and fortune!

Players stake their creatures to earn BGFOCUS. They must then spend at least 100 BGFOCUS tokens to enter a battle against a randomized AI team. Each team fields three Beasts per battle. The owner of the winning team walks away with a prize in BGALPHA. The loser gets nothing. At the moment the game is only PvE, though the roadmap does include future plans for PvP and tournaments.

Beast Garden element wheel

The game features a rock-paper-scissor style strategic layer with seven different elements. Each element receives a bonus against a certain other type of element. Balancing your team to match the right attacks against the elements of your opponents is a key part of winning battles in Beast Garden.

The game features a couple of interesting features to spice up what is otherwise a fun but basic auto-battler. First off, when starting a battle, players choose how much BGFOCUS to spend (in increments of 100). At each level of spending, the potential rewards increase, but at a slightly reduced percentage. (e.g., when spending 500 BGFOCUS tokens on a battle, the players has a chance to win 480% of the normal reward.) Secondly, when submitting a lineup, confident players can choose to give their opponents a bonus percentage to their damage in return, for greater BGALPHA rewards.

This provides a great opportunity for those who want to play less often or don’t have the time to run battles throughout the day. They can put their effort into fighting fewer battles and receive slightly less BGALPHA in exchange. Beasts require a certain amount of rest time between battles, making a diverse stable and duplicate Beasts more valuable for active trainers.

Both BGFOCUS and BGALPHA are tokens on the WAX blockchain and can be traded on the Alcor exchange. Beast Garden also features ‘Bounty’ cards. These cards accumulate value from secondary market sales and can be burned at any time for WAX rewards.
