Land delegation, a pseudo-scholarship program, makes its way to Axie Homeland. Axie land delegation lets land owners without the time or energy to manage their land plots, make a deal with players who don’t own any land, but are interested in land management. These secondary players are called Stewards in the Axie universe.

The delegation process is manual at the moment. Land owners must select their plot and input the address of the player they wish to delegate to. There is no official rental market. All rewards earned by placing on the leaderboards are automatically sent to the land owner’s Ronin wallet. It is up to the Steward and the property owner to work out any payment details. Owners can set delegation periods from 1 to 365 days. Land owners can also choose to revoke land access to a Steward, 24 hours after their initial delegation.

While it’s unfortunate that the new land delegation feature isn’t fully integrated into the game, allowing for blockchain-enforced contracts between two players, this is at least a step in the right direction. And while we still wait for the land-based gameplay that doesn’t require access to a land plot, land delegation works as an excellent tool both for landowners, and those who are just interested in playing Axie Homeland.

The focus of season 4 of Axie Origins seems to be new player experience. With new starter runes and charms, quicker progression at lower ranks, and the ability to upgrader starter Axies!

Axie Origins is still one of the most played games in the web3 gaming space. And their ongoing dedication to enhancing and improving the experience is a great sign for a game that has gone through a number of growing pains!

Season 4 Info

This season brings a new set of leaderboards and rewards, with over 111 thousand AXS token to be distributed as rewards. As with previous seasons, this season is divided up into three Eras, Rare, Epic, and Mystic. During each Era, the top 20,00 players receive a payout in mAXS tokens, with bonus, in-game prizes to the top million players.

Season 4 sees the introduction of a new mechanic. When playing a match, unused Energy will convert to Energy Fragments. Players can then use these Fragments to hold onto unplayed cards between rounds.

To enhance the overall user experience, the animation speed in Axie Origins the team has increased. They have also amped up Blitz mode, making the game run at 1.75x normal speed for those who like fast-paced contests!

Progression at lower ranks has been increased to encourage lower-ranked players. Meanwhile, higher ranked players will need to battle more often to maintain their position.

This season also brings a new feature for free to play players – the ability to level up the starter Axies! Players level up their starter Axies with Class Badges and Honor Medals, earned by completing daily and weekly missions. On top of that, players will also begin the season with a selection of starter Runes and Charms, allowing for more play customization right from the beginning.

Another added feature is a eSports mode. When toggled, all Runes and Charms are unlocked for the players, but any matches played in this mode won’t affect the player’s ranking.

What is Axie Origins?

Axie Origins is a creature battler and breeding game. Originally on the Ethereum network, Axie Infinity moved to the Ronin sidechain in 2021, and launched a staking system for their AXS governance token. In the game players use a team of three Axie NFTs to battle opponents in Adventure mode (PvE) and the Arena (PvP). Axies can be upgrade with Runes and Charms.

Rewards from the Arena include Smooth Love Potions (SLP) and AXS, the governance token for Axie Infinity.

Players use SLP to breed new Axies. Parent Axies can only produce offspring a limited number of times. Also, players can attach Runes and Charms found in PvE mode to provide boosts to Axies. Axie Infinity rebooted their main game in late 2022 with the launch of Axie Origins. They have also added a new growing and decorating mini-game for landowners.

Alpha Season 2 of the Axie-based farming and plot decorating game known as Axie Homeland kicks into gear. It started on April 19th, 2023 and will last for 30 days. Players can earn mAXS token prizes for placing in the top 500 spots of the Passive Adventure and / or Land Development leaderboards. Payouts are in mAXS tokens, which are 1/1000th of an AXS (1,000 mAXS = 1 AXS token). But these are still some nice rewards!

Alpha Season 2 also comes with a new Seasonal Achievement Award system. Players can earn exclusive titles by reaching certain milestones during the season.

The user interface has been improved with a new Task Management window. This allows players to see all of their Axies and their current status. This should make managing and directing your Axies a much easier task. In addition, the adventurer equip screen has some improvements as well.

Accessing the Axie Homeland requires owning an Axie land plot. These can be purchased in the Axie market, but be prepared to pay $1,000+ for a plot!

Starting on February 22nd, at 11:30 GMT, Axie Homeland Alpha Season 1 brings the first version of AXS rewards to the game. And, since rewards are now available, everyone will see their progress reset and they must start building up their land from scratch again. Also, be prepared to have all progress erased at the end of alpha season one as well.

Alpha Season 1 will last for 30 days. At the end, of the season, the top 500 players in Passive Adventure and in Land Development earn mAXS (1,000 mAXS = 1 AXS token). For reference, one AXS token is currently worth about $11 USD. So the top player from the Passive Adventure leaderboard could win tokens worth over $2,000!

This will be the first chance that players have to receive rewards for decorating and developing their land plot. Also, the Passive Adventure feature will see some upgrades to the game mechanics, and the ability to form parties of up to three adventurers! In addition, the Axie team plans to hold a plot decorating contest during the season, also with AXS rewards.

Though apparently there will be some sort of free to play option in the future, right now, players must own an Axie land plot to participate in the Homeland alpha. Anyone who doesn’t already own an Axie land plot can pick one up from the official marketplace. But be warned, the floor price for an Axie land is approaching 1 ETH!

Launched in 2022, MetaLend already built a similar system for Axie assets on Polygon. Now they deploy to the Ronin network as an ‘official lending partner for Axie Infinity’. This migration should make the service more accessible and seamless for those who need some liquidity but don’t want to sell their Axie assets.

How to use MetaLend

The process is pretty basic. Transfer assets in, and then take out a loan in the form of ETH. The MetaLend system assigns a value to each asset, and users can take out some or all of the maximum loan value. The site even includes a value estimation tool for players to see how much their Axie assets would be worth in regards to a loan.

Unfortunately, MetaLend is apparently country restricted. I’m not sure which countries are blocked, but as a U.S. resident, I was barred from the service. Which is too bad because this is definitely an interesting service, and places where you can get loans on NFTs are still very limited. You can check MetaLend out yourself at https://metalend.tech/

MetaLend plans to also make options for borrowing against staked AXS and RON tokens in the future. In addition, they hope to implement their system so that players can even still use and play with their assets while they are being used as collateral!

Now, of course, this is not a completely free service. Be sure that you read and understand the terms and conditions of MetaLend. Especially including any information about how much the loan repayment will cost and any and all due dates that might be involved.

Season 0 of Axie Homeland ended today (January 31, 2023). And according to the Axie team’s metrics, things looked pretty good. Player retention rate was high, players tended to play long gaming sessions (though I saw some players complaining about that), and overall, players showed significant progress in leveling up their land plots.

And though not all feedback was glowing, overall, players seemed to be very positive about the general experience. All player progress will be reset for Alpha Season 1. And then again at least one more time as the game moves to beta and then release.

Players who reached a high level on the leaderboards will receive the ‘Legendary Pioneer’ title when Season 1 starts. Expect to see more significant leaderboards rewards in future updates when the team decides to test the game economy.

This land gameplay release led to an increase in active Axie players as well as a bump for land sales. In fact, some land plots sold for over $130k USD!

The team plans to try and launch Season 1 in about three weeks. There will be changes and tweaks to the gameplay and game economy. And other improvements as well. We should get more details on those changes as we get closer to the next season.

Hot off their launch of Season Two of Axie Origins, Axie opens two special, free to enter events, a Lunar New Year event and a Budget Axies event.

Lunar New Year Event

Axie players who complete tasks in Axie Infinity can earn points towards special rewards in their Lunar New Year contest. Running from January 25th through February 1st, the Lunar New Year event rewards players for finishing tasks such as winning a battle with a specific type of Axie or crafting a Rune.

There are about 15 missions total, each worth a varying amount of points. Players unlock up to eight milestones with these points. Each milestone rewards players with Moon Shards plus an additional reward. The additional rewards include Moon Dust as well as special cosmetics such as Avatars, Stickers, and Borders.

The Budget Axie Challenge

In addition to the Lunar New Year event, Axie is also holding a Budget Axie Challenge. To participate, players need to build a team of cheap Axies and create a YouTube video showing a win with their team.

Entrants must upload a video to YouTube showcasing their team in a win. The video needs to include the hashtags #BudgetAxie and #AxieCreator in the description of video. Entrants must also fill out this form. Players can submit more than one team, though they need to make a video for each one.

Videos will be judged based on the quality of the video, the cost of their team, and how well they can explain the value of their team in ranked combat. Additional points will be awarded if the team costs less than 0.02 ETH and/or has a popular V2 Axie. Judges will also consider explanations of the team’s build and how it was chosen, information about how and where the team was purchased, and showing match history and team rank when making their selections.

The top 10 spots receive a share of a 121 AXS prize pool, plus a team of Axies to give away to their community.

The NFT-based game offered more than 1.5M USD worth of AXS rewards during Season 1, also introducing new gameplay systems. On the 11th of January, Axie announced the arrival of Origins Season 2. Season 2 comes with even more modified gameplay and features.

Some new additions or modifications are upgraded crafting progression, daily login rewards, Eras, and many more. This article discusses key features mentioned by Axie and hints on how to make the most of the event.

Axie Infinity Origins 2: Key Features

Axie Infinity Origins Season 2 will last 42 days, about the same duration as Season one, although shorter. However, there are huge differences this time, and the users who get the hang of it first will have better chances at rewards.

There are several updates to Charms, Runes, cards, and a new leaderboard. The leaderboard system is called style and will reward users with more than 110,000 AXS throughout the season.

The leaderboard, Eras, will also facilitate progressive rarity unlocks through the event. Additionally, there is a daily login reward for all users, meaning players can get lucky by logging in. The leaderboard system is also different in terms of the award of rewards, as users will be rewarded four times in the season. Level-ups will also happen more frequently. All of these changes come from user feedback.

Eras: The New Leaderboard System

Eras are like stages of the leaderboard that will reward players throughout the season. There are four eras, and players will be rewarded at the end of each one The eras are the rare era, the epic era, the mystic era, and the final era.

The Rare Era

The Rare Era will last the first seven days of the 42-day season, after which players will get rewarded. The reward payout is 11,200 AXS; only common and rare runes are offered for crafting. Users can only use basic crafting, and there are no open utility slots.

The Epic Era

The Epic Era will last longer than the Rare Era, from day 7 to day 21 of the season. All utility slots are open, and intermediate crafting is unlocked here. Common, rare, and epic runes and charms are available for crafting.

The Mystic Era

The Mystic Era will last from day 21 to day 28 of the season, and the total reward payout is 16,800 AXS.

The Final Era

The final era is the last leaderboard stage and will last from day 28 to day 42 of the season. The reward payout in this era is 50,400 AXS, and all runes and charms can be crafted or traded.

Launch Contest: Origins Season 2

Axie Infinity: Origins Season 2 started with a Bugapalooza launch contest from January 11th to January 18th, 2022. The contest is bug-themed, and players can earn contest points and unlock other rewards.

When the season ends, Lunacians will receive avatar rewards and avatars commemorating their hard work. In addition, there are new card effects, and the game’s physics has been improved tremendously.

All of these features make Origins Season 2 very different from season 1.

Even though many developers and companies are still easing into the new year, others are developing and releasing new alphas, previews, and announcements! Here are a few games to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.

Gala Games

Not just one game, but this is an entire ecosystem to watch. Gala Games is already making a splash in 2023 with their recent acquisition of a mobile gaming company with the intent of onboarding all of their existing games onto the Gala ecosystem and upcoming Gala blockchain!

Gala Games has been criticized for starting and funding dozens of games but not delivering much. That has already started to change with the release of Superior, alphas for Legacy and Echoes of Empire, and now they just went out and outright bought a company that already has a number of existing games. We don’t have the full details on this purchase, but there should be a bigger announcement about this event soon as well as some talk about how Gala actually plans to begin incorporating this new suite of games into their ecosystem.

On top of this they also have their new Gala Music and Gala Film divisions. Gala Games will be one to watch throughout the entire year!

Mist Pre-Alpha

Mist now opens their pre-alpha to everyone! Even Mac players! They opened a closed alpha test for NFT holders about a month ago, and I guess the testing went smoothly enough that they are now ready to invite the general masses! Playtest opens on January 9th at 18:00 UTC. The download links should be revealed then. Watch their Twitter feed for more info.

Undead Blocks

Undead Blocks has already been hosting a steady stream of play to earn events. But now they kick things up a notch with the addition of co-op multiplayer! No longer must you face the hordes of undead alone. Now you can bring a friend for some co-op, zombie killing fun! The team has already announced their intentions to also add a 4-player mode. Already off to a great start for 2023, Undead Blocks looks to have claimed a long-term spot in the web3 ecosystem!

Champions Ascension

Champions Ascension continues to impress with improvements and additions to their virtual world, arena combat, and selection of in-game, mini-games. Their alpha previews open three days a week, every weekend, for several hours at a time, and are open to everyone (if you don’t own a Champion NFT, access codes are easy to find).

Players can earn tickets from participating in the arena or any of the mini-games. Use those tickets to buy Mystery Boxes with random, NFT items inside.

And with their upcoming Elemental mint (basically lesser Champions, though with some unique traits only available to Elementals), expect to continue to see more news about Champions Ascension in the near future!

Axie Infinity

Though Axie Infinity has still been slipping in the charts in regards to active players, the recent first alpha launch of land gameplay, called Homeland, seems to have galvanized their playerbase. Axie land holders have been waiting a long time for this release, and initial reports are promising. With the additional recent major revamp of their game and economy, the Axie ecosystem seems to be thriving and growing.

So far the only in-game blockchain mechanics are the NFT land plots and the NFT land items. There are still no crypto tokens integrated into Homeland. Since this is just the early alpha of this game mode, players can keep their land plots staked while playing. In the future, rewards will be implemented into Axie Infinity Homeland and Land Staking will be turned off.

At the end of the Alpha phase, progress will be reset. However, players will keep their off-chain cosmetics earned during this phase. Below, you can find a tutorial for this new game mode.

How to play Homeland?

To play Homeland you will need a Sky Mavis account and a Ronin wallet to begin. Then, you will need to head into Axie Infinity’s marketplace, log in with your Ronin wallet and buy a land plot.

Land plots are not cheap. The floor price is currently at 1.09 ETH or $1,308 USD. Besides this, land plots have different rarities:

• Savannah
• Forest
• Arctic
• Mystic
• Genesis

Land plots with a higher rarity are closer to the center where one day there will be events, and usually, they are closer to resource nodes. In Land Staking, land plots with a higher rarity get more daily rewards in $AXS. There is speculation that in the future landowners of higher-tier land plots will be able to reap more rewards from Homeland than landowners of low-tier land plots.

Roadmap

There is also a roadmap for Homeland with four different phases. But, the timeline goes from 2021 to 2026, so it is not clear when each of the features mentioned are going to be implemented.

Last Thoughts

Personally, I am quite surprised with the quality of this new game mode. I have been bearish in Axie for some time but I recognize that Homeland actually looks good. If I had a land plot I would probably spend some time playing it. It looks like a nice casual game.

But I think that for Axie to really shine again, Sky Mavis has to merge the main game modes, Homeland with Origins. This was what was intended in the beginning when they launched that land demo where players could gather resources and battle chimera, all in the same game mode. With all these separate game modes, Axie will keep being a mobile game among many others, that only stands out because of how much money people made when it was at its peak.
