Well that didn’t take long. ChatGPT and other recent AI releases showed us that AI chat bots had become very skilled at being able to carry on a conversation and recognize natural language prompts. This seemed like a perfect fit for game NPCs, and sure enough, AlterVerse is the first to jump headfirst into the fray, offering a new selection of AI-guided NPCs to chat with in their Sky City social hub.

Players can chat with Avii, found in the starting area, and Omar, who hangs out at Club Sky City. These AIs are powered by Convai, a group specifically building conversational AIs for use in virtual worlds. Use of this AI chat feature will even be available to world builders. Pretty cool!

In addition, the latest version of Sky City sees a few fixes and tweaks as well as a new mini-game, Demolition Derby!

For those who like competitions, AlterVerse is also running daily contests with various NFTs up for grabs. Friday’s contest involves catching a screenshot of mayhem at the Demolition Derby and tweeting about it. Saturday’s contest requires encountering a cave creature in the lava caves and capturing an engaging screenshot. And the final contest on Sunday is all about building a dream coastal home in the Playa Diablo section of Sky City.

The closed beta will run in sessions. One every two weeks. Scheduled to start on June 9th and run through the weekend, this first preview of the game will offer three regions to explore, The Epicenter, Apex Raceway, and Razorback Ridge.

AlterVerse has partnered with a gaming marketplace called Scuti, to bring interactive shopping to Sky City. Players will be able to click on items and billboards in the game to bring up a Scuti kiosk. From this interface players can browse and purchase real life items. As a bonus, players receive 5% back in SCUTI, which can be exchanged for ACE tokens.

Now, of course, the main question is, do people really want to use an in-game interface in a virtual world to make real life purchases. What about the exchange fees involved with moving the ‘cashback’ to usable tokens?

In addition, the official announcement has a couple of quotes that make me dubious of the whole affair. (emphasis in the quotes is mine)

“AlterVerse provides brands with cutting-edge tools to engage, reward, and sell directly to every player”

“adding rewarded shopping for players to enhance their game experience.”

Selling and shopping experiences seem to be the focus here, which is not really what I want in my virtual worlds. And this could quickly go too far, with everything in-game turning into an advertisement of some sort!

It seems inevitable that advertisements and merchandising will continue to seep into virtual worlds. Especially as they gain in popularity. But will it be a cool feature, a barely noticed addition, or a dystopian nightmare? Or maybe a little of all three? We’ll see how it turns out!

AlterVerse is building an interconnected collection of gaming servers with Sky City as the central social hub. This past weekend (November 11th – 13th), they opened a preview of Sky City to a small group of people holding their Citizen or Founder NFTs.

Sky City is Phase 1 of the AlterVerse. This is the main social hub with shops and land ownership. It also features quests, mini-games, PvP contests, and other activities. Players can already purchase various items and skin NFTs in the official shop.

Sky City Alpha

For the alpha, players had a chance to own land, constructing their own houses, fly sky cars around, explore the city and surrounding areas, and engage in PvP and other mini-games. Overall reports from the play test are positive, with players saying it was a smooth and enjoyable experience. Alpha players posted a number of screenshots and the graphics look great!

The team received some good feedback from the participants and already has a list of new bug fixes ready to go for their next round of alpha, scheduled for December 12th, 2022.

This first alpha preview was only open to holders of Citizen and Founder NFTs. But future alpha and beta tests will open to gradually larger audiences. If you’re interested, you can request early access here. Alternatively, you can also purchase a Lifetime Citizen membership from the AlterVerse store. This cost $100 and provide a unique Citizen number, access to higher level titles, increased earning potential, voting rights, invitations to special events, and free access to AlterVerse for life! About the Funding

AlterVerse was an early participant in the Binance Labs Incubation Program. Following the completion of the program, the company received funding from a private round led by Binance Labs and was joined by several investors. Binance Labs is a venture capital and arm accelerator of Binance, which was launched to incubate blockchain startups. 

The funding was carried out in $ACE, a new token on the BNB chain, and will act as an in-game currency in AlterVerse. The company has decided to use the funds to grow the entire AlterVerse Ecosystem and expand the Sky City project. The team has also been working with partner Enjin to integrate Efinity, the first Polkadot parachain dedicated to NFTs.

Sky City Project Announcement

The multi-world project will be launched in four phases – Sky City, Outpost, Rekt, and City Servers.

Sky City: Sky City is the central hub of AlterVerse, where players can buy lands, build, shop, gather resources, craft NFTs, sell, trade, and earn money by playing. The project is built using Unreal Engine 5 and will offer stunning graphics, design elements, smooth gameplay, and extensive 3D environments. The Alpha launch of the Sky City project is expected to occur in Q4 2022.

Pre-Alpha access has been launched following the funding announcement. Players can get exclusive access to the Sky City Pre-Alpha by submitting details in this google form. Those receiving early access will also be able to try out the playable demo version of Sky City. 

Outpost: Outpost is a sci-fi shooter-style game that includes quests, crafting, and mining activities. Players can fly powerful XR75 fighter ships, compete in various contests, customize crew rooms and socialize with players. 

Rekt: The Rekt is a hardcore survival game that will be launched in Q1 2023. In Rekt, players have to survive and engage in battles with other players. It is similar to the Rust-like game genre.

City Servers: The City Servers is a decentralized metaverse platform with “Metaservers”, that can be owned, customized, and operated by players.

Tokenomics of AlterVerse

The native token of AlterVerse is $ACE, which can be used as an in-game currency for player rewards and in-game transactions. The $ACE token will run on the BNB smart chain along with land and skin NFTs. The team is also building an NFT marketplace that will be integrated with Polygon, BNB, Efinity, and many other chains. 

What is Alterverse?
