We already introduced you to the world of Quantum Noesis, a playable, NFT-based graphic novel developed by Synesis one. We also introduced you to the creative director and to the graphic artist in our previous article here. The game just launched today, here is a preview of what to expect and how you can join the adventure!

Quantum Noesis was initially set to be launched on March 31st. Unfortunately, while doing their final tests, the team discovered some bugs that prevented them to launch their game in good conditions. They had to take the difficult decision to postpone the game’s launch. This decision might have upset some players eager to start solving the mysteries of Quantum Noesis. But this was necessary in order to ensure that the product was well polished and that players would have the best experience possible. Many teams prefer to rush their launch, even if their product has flaws. Quantum Noessis took the right approach and is now ready to show its product to the world!

What is Quantum Noesis?

The year 2035. EVI (short for Electronic Virtual Intelligence) is on the verge of achieving sentience as the first true general Artificial Intelligence. But there are powerful forces at work to destroy her!

To safeguard the Noesis Network, EVI has gamified part of her security, transforming vulnerabilities in the code into audiovisual puzzles that are easier for the human mind to grasp and solve. She has recruited elite gamers – like you – to bring their intuition, creativity, and pattern recognition abilities to the fight. Her world is the Quantum Noesis.

This is the futurist vision of our world brought to you by Synesis One, the company behind Quantum Noesis.

In Quantum Noesis, players advance the story by solving puzzles, which were created by legendary puzzle master Cliff Johnson, whose many awards include ‘Best Puzzle Game Ever’ and ‘Best Retro Game Ever.’ There are 36 puzzles of increasing difficulty. The visual style of the game was created by award-winning creative designer Eric Jordan and brought to life by graphic novel artist Bohdan Kravchenko. The Game is being produced by game developer Fabyrka Gier. Finally, the Science Fiction story at the heart of Quantum Noesis was written by screenwriter Shawn Whitney and Cyberpunk novelist DL Young, author of the Cyberpunk City novels.

How to play Quantum Noesis and earn rewards

Players of Quantum Noesis compete for over 1,000,000 Synesis tokens ($SNS) in rewards. The first players to solve a given puzzle, complete one of the twelve ‘chapters’, or finish the entire game will win $SNS tokens. There are more than 8,000 possible rewards for players to claim, including a grand prize of 50,000 SNS for the top player. To access the game and claim rewards, players need a Solana-based wallet and a Kanon NFT. You can also access the game by holding and staking a minimum of 100 $SNS tokens.

One week ago, Gala Games released Town Crush, their test game for the new Gala Chain. The game is accessible to all Gala users and is free to play. The goal for Gala Games is to test the new blockchain under load.

Town Crush is an obvious clone of Candy Crush. Your goal is to mix and match three items of the same type and score as many points as possible. The items are elements from Town Star, such as crops, fruits, or even special equipment and buildings.

The game is divided into levels, and the developers didn’t specify how many levels there are. However, you can monitor all moves in the Gala Chain through the block explorer, so you might be able to find out by doing a little digging.

Town Crush uses a real, on-chain token named “TEST”. The token cannot be exchanged or traded, it’s not listed on any decentralized exchange, and will not have any monetary value. You will be asked to accept to hold it in your Gala Wallet, but that’s it – no other steps necessary.

Once in the game, you will earn TEST by completing levels, and you can spend them buying more lives or “bombs” to clear out the goals faster.

Gala Games already stated this is not a polished title they’d normally release, and it’s only meant to be a test for their upcoming Gala Chain. It’s designed to perform more operations than necessary on the chain and to stress it out as much as possible.

The main objective of the game is to find all flaws before the public release of the chain. Players are encouraged, but not rewarded, to find bugs. This is an odd choice as a bug bounty reward system could have brought talented QA testers into the game.

“Gala Chain” is a dictionary name. The Gala Games team didn’t confirm the name of the blockchain, and right now it’s actually called Project GYRI. You can read more about Gala Games’ plans in our previous article about the Gala Chain.

How to Play Town Crush?

To play the game, you’ll first need a Gala Games account. Everyone can register, and the process is completely free.

By opening an account, you enter the Gala ecosystem, and you can play their other games or sign up to the waitlist. At the moment, they only have Town Star live, the other games are yet to be released.

In the marketplace, you can buy NFTs for upcoming games such as Mirandus, their most ambitious open RPG project.

I tested the game, and here’s a little preview

Although basic, the game runs smoothly and has all the main components of an addictive Candy Crush clone.

Considering it’s free and will not require you to pay any gas fees, testing it out could be the first step into the Gala Games ecosystem. Since everything is in test mode, you don’t even need to hold any $GALA or other tokens, and won’t be required to link up any browser wallet like MetaMask. And even if there is nothing to earn, it is always a good thing to be an early tester. We have seen in the past testers being rewarded with real tokens or NFTs. So if you are curious, just create your Gala account here and start playing!

Quantum Noesis is the world’s first playable, NFT-based graphic novel set to launch on March 31st. Let’s dive into Quantum Noesis’ universe with the interviews of Eric Jordan, creative director and Bogdan Kravchenko, lead graphic novel artist for Quantum Noesis.

EVI, the world’s first sentient AI, is under attack by those who will stop at nothing to destroy her. Use your wits to clear all twelve levels, win crypto prizes, and unlock the ultimate puzzle: the mystery of consciousness.

Meet Eric Jordan, Creative Director of Quantum Noesis

What is the Game and How Do You Play?

In Quantum Noesis, you are an elite cyber security agent. As a top gamer, YOU have been recruited by the Noosphere DAO, which has crowdsourced and gamified part of its security system. In the game, elite gamers jack-in to the metaverse using a neural link helmet. You are assisted by Pilar (short for Compiler), a wise-cracking sidekick program who translates code blocks into a form that taps into human creativity and intuition. There are 36 puzzles of increasing complexity — three per chapter. Solve the puzzles to advance the story and win crypto prizes along the way.

Quantum Noesis is a browser-based game built in Unity. To play, you need to have a Phantom Wallet with a Kanon token or an equivalent amount of $SNS tokens.

Can You Describe the Puzzles ?

Puzzles involve putting letters into a grid, assembling word fragments, or deciphering letter substitution codes.

Can You Describe the Environment?

The fictional world of Quantum Noesis touches on themes in our own world – authoritarian governments using AI to increase surveillance and control and Big Tech Data-opolies using AI to manipulate and divide us. Like Noosphere, the fictional DAO in our story, synesis.one is aiming to build human centered, ethical AI for all.

What Does the Title Quantum Noesis Mean, and How did you come up with the Game Title?

Quantum Noesis is an amalgam of quantum — part of the AI is a quantum computer — and Noesis, a Greek word that means cognition or intelligence, or the exercise of reason. In Greek philosophy, it has the additional meaning of the highest kind of knowledge or knowledge of the eternal platonic forms. It took us three weeks to think up the right name —writing ideas onto a window because(we we didn’t have a white board).

How Did the Game Come About?

Our challenge was to build a game using words from our NFTs. Naturally, this led our Head of NFT Gaming to consider word puzzle games — but he wanted to craft something more challenging than the word games many are familiar with, such as Scrabble, Wordle, or Words with Friends, and these games are based on manipulating individual letters. This conundrum led him to discover a legendary puzzle designer who is famous for fiendishly clever and challenge word puzzles — we’ll introduce our puzzle designer to you all in the coming weeks!

Who’s the Team Behind the Game?

Synesis One’s Head of NFT Gaming and Game industry veteran, Tracy Spaight put together our outstanding team of puzzle master, writers, and designers. The team includes:

Puzzle Master Cliff Johnson, whose many awards include ‘Best Puzzle Game Ever’ and ‘Best Retro Game Ever’.

Award winning artist and creative director Eric Jordan produced the concept art Artist Bohdan Kravchenko who created the beautiful graphic novel panels that tell the story.

The writers, Cyberpunk novelist David Young, author of the Cyberpunk City series Writer Shawn Whitney Fabryka Gier, who have produced games for Playdom and Spil Games, is building the game.

Meet Bogdan, Quantum Noesis’ lead artist from Ukraine

Who Did the Concept Art?

Eric Jordan, who serves as an advisor for Synesis.one, agreed to provide artistic direction to the Quantum Noesis project in October 2021. With 22 years of experience in high-end creative direction, design, and motion graphics, Eric has been recognized as one of the world’s top 20 international designers by Net Magazine. His past clients include Electronic Arts, Activision, New Line Cinema, LG Electronics, Space-X, Boeing, Tesla, and many other top global brands.

“I was attracted to the story’s exploration of decentralized systems and artificial intelligence,” explains the New Zealand based designer and creative director. “It aligns with my own interest in the nature of consciousness and gnosis.”

Eric is known for translating high-tech concepts into beautiful forms that resonate with viewers on a higher level. This unique ability shines through in the concept art he created for the game.

Working from the story synopsis, he dreamed up the look of the main characters — the Noosphere DAO’s science team, EVI, the sentient AI, Pilar, the player’s sassy software sidekick, and the villains of the story, including MegaCorp’s sociopathic CEO and his co- conspirator, Volkov. He also helped bring the high-tech environments of the Noesis Network’s datasphere to life.

Eric created the characters and environments in DAZ 3D, a rendering application used for images and video. He then ran them through Cinema 4D and RedShift — a GPU 3D accelerated rendering software — to create the gorgeous avatars and environments of our concept art.

How are You Translating the Script into Images?

Eric’s concept art gave Quantum Noesis it’s unique Science-Fiction look and feel. The next step was translating the 100-page script into individual panels, to tell the story in the visual language of a graphic novel. To bring the story to life, the Quantum Noesis team engaged Bohdan Kravchenko, a Ukrainian artist with a gift for illustrating graphic novels. Bohdan is an expert storyboard artist and illustrator with a wide range of ability and astonishing skill.

His illustrations give the characters personality and gravitas. “I’m really enjoying working on this project,” says Bohdan. “I love the story and enjoy the process of bringing the world of Quantum Noesis to life.”

What Influenced the Art?

Fans of science fiction films may catch some of the inspirations for the world of Quantum Noesis. The W^X ‘war room, for example, is inspired by the war room in Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 classic Dr. Strangelove. And the design for EVI was inspired in part by the Maschinenmensch (humanoid robot) from Fritz Lang’s 1927 classic, Metropolis.

After being suddenly dropped from Steam a couple of months ago, Age of Rust was slowed, but not stopped. The most recent development update details several plan changes to keep the game on track for a 2022 release.

Age of Rust’s beta came to a sudden end when Steam unceremoniously removed their game from its store. But while they search for a new distribution partner, the development work continues. The latest update brings us news of changes to the Season stories, token cards, and extra collaborative content.

After initially planning three seasons of content, the team decided to compress it into two instead. Season One will take on some content from Season Two and Season Three will merge into Season Two.

Age of Rust Crytposkull key

With the next release, Mission cards become universal. Currently, each locked mission has its own card. But for the sake of simplicity and allowing greater access for the beta players, any Mission card will unlock all missions. However, this does not affect the search for CryptoSkull keys. Players still need all eight (8) Mission cards for that quest. Each Crytposkull Key acts as a LastLight gold card, opening up all the reward levels. The keys are backed by 10,000 Enjin — if anyone wants to burn one for the tokens inside!

The Origin card gains some value as well. It now opens access to all the items in the game (with some exceptions — Ankh Artifact, Arjen’s Holodrive, Ununpentium, Isolationists Mask, Mech Source Code, Canto’s Private Keys, CryptoSkull Key, Stolen Shuttle Keycard, Silver Dawn Black Box, Wickwire Skull, Ancient Katana, Alien Artifact)

Also, the team announced that Age of Rust will be for PC only and will only come with English language support. Plans for porting the game to other platforms and languages have been shelved for now. The team wants to instead focus on completing everything for Season One and Two.

Content Removal

Along with these two changes comes the trimming of some extra content. These features aren’t necessarily gone for good. They were chosen because there had been little to no development on them. Here is the list of content that will not be included in the next release.

The extra missions for Lastlight & Origin (mission 9 & 10).

The special bonus mission for Age of Rust MFT Token hodlers (Mission 11).

The Enjin Monolith treasure hunt clues in Age of Rust.

The custom mission for DappsVerse Arkenax & Verderion.

Major Tom from Changelly hint system.

FIO Express underground market.

Neon District token support & bonus content.

Frozen Enjin bonus level.

exclusive “Inquisitor” NFT airdropped to Founders token holders

What is Age of Rust?

Age of Rust is a single-player, sci-fi, adventure/puzzle game in development by a company called SpacePirate. Players explore abandoned space stations, mysterious caverns, and ruins on far away worlds. Uncover secrets and discover the key to defeating a ruthless AI that controls the galaxy! Age of Rust offers a mix of puzzle games and light action. The game’s NFTs exist on Enjin’s Jumpnet.

Age of Rust is in beta but the team is currently searching for a new distribution platform. You will need an Enjin wallet to play. And though players don’t require any NFTs or tokens to start, accessing the higher level puzzles will. The NFTs are sometimes found in game, though they may also be purchased on the OpenSea market. Token holders sometimes receive special airdrops in addition to game access.

Players can gather Rustbits, the official Age of Rust token. Used to purchase in-game items, Rustbits will also as serve as the default token for other games from SpacePirate.

The 3D physics puzzle game Citadel of the Machines will allow players to play-to-earn, but it’s actually more create-to-earn. The best and most popular puzzle creators will automatically receive HERA tokens or NFTs, challenging gamers to make the most fun experiences.

If you played games like Portal, Snake Pass, and Poly Bridge, you will know what a 3D physics puzzle game can be. Citadel of the Machines aims to become the first in that genre to implement play-to-earn mechanics, its own native HERA token and NFTs. The team describes their game as a ‘roam-and-earn NFT adventure’, but don’t provide a lot of details about all the earning mechanics yet.

In Citadel of the Machines a spaceship crashed on an alien world, but there are no survivors. After aeons passed, a lightning strike caused the ship’s computer to awaken. You will play the lonely service robot.

The developers of Citadel of the Machines will release a first series of 9,999 playable NFT characters. Of course that would be that same service robot. Each of those robots has different attributes, reflected in their in-game performance. The first 1,000 characters will come with an early access pass. Because everybody needs a character to play, the team will obviously release more NFTs down the road.

The first NFT sale for Citadel of the Machines takes place on September 21st. The game will use Ethereum for its NFTs and HERA token. Initially Citadel of the Machines will sell their NFT characters for 0,045 ETH each.

Puzzles and blockchain gaming

We’ve got to be honest here, but the puzzle gaming genre hasn’t been matched with NFTs, play-to-earn or blockchain gaming a lot. Age of Rust would be a first person puzzle game, and that one has been around for quite some time. However, there aren’t many new entries.

Most puzzle games in the NFT gaming space are probably part of GameFi platforms like Mobox, or casual social hubs like Gamee. There’s nothing wrong with that, but we’re still waiting for ‘our’ Portal. For the time being the NFT gaming genre gets lots of strategy games, role playing games and genres that mix both of these.

According to data from DappRadar the games that have the most wallets connecting to their smart contracts are Alien Worlds, Splinterlands and Upland. Each of them are a bit passive or idle, are tactical or strategy, and work with taking turns. The same goes for other top performers like CryptoBlades, Axie Infinity, R-Planet and the earlier mentioned Mobox.

Age of Rust, a space-themed game developed by SpacePirate Games, has released their latest dev update which includes several quality of life improvements as well as clarification around expectations from the game. They focused in particular on its status as a play-to-earn, first-person shooter. Guess what? It’s not.

First and foremost the developers never designed Age of Rust as a play-to-earn game. While players can claim bounties, tokens with embedded Enjin coins, they didn’t mean the game to be a blockchain loot piñata. They do have that million dollar crypto puzzle though. The team says that some of the confusion around this aspect likely came from their previous marketing and interviews. They will adjust their marking in the future to better shape expectations for the game.

The second point of confusion was the idea that Age of Rust would be primarily a first-person shooter. Age of Rust is a mix of puzzle games and light action. They admit that the first-person shooter aspects were lacking, and are working on improving this part of the game. They’ve included a down-sights view to better fit the FPS standards, and in addition they’ve updated a couple of gun models to support that new feature. There has been some tweaking on the movements, with an increase to the bob and sway effects. Further good news, players can now also shoot while jumping or crouching.

More fixing

As for other updates / bug fixes, players can now choose a video resolution, rather than the game forces the default options. The developers have also added an in-game journal to store information and clues. Players can then refer to it in order to help them solve the game’s puzzles. Many enemies in the game didn’t move around, so the devs have also updated them. Now enemies dynamically react and take cover or chase players. Furthermore, they included four quickslots and a mini-map of the current level in the interface.

Support for the move to JumpNet has begun, which should alleviate Ethereum gas fees, but tokens on the mainnet won’t be transferred over until the asset bridge has been completed. Development for the game will continue while the JumpNet transition is in progress.

What is Age of Rust?

Age of Rust is a single-player sci-fi adventure/puzzle game. Players will explore abandoned space stations, mysterious caverns, and ruins on far away worlds.

Age of Rust is currently in beta and available as a free playtest version on Steam. You will need an Enjin wallet and an Age of Rust token in order to play the beta. Some of the higher-level missions and puzzles will only be available to those with the proper tokens, which can be sometimes found in-game, or purchased from the Enjin Markeplace or OpenSea.

Blockchain gaming platform Pavillion has launched The Gardens Between, an multi-award winning single-player adventure-puzzle game that awards NFT game achievements. On the gaming platform users buy an NFT Game License, giving them the option to resell their digital game purchase.

In this puzzle-adventure game players will be tasked with helping best friends, Arina and Frendt solve puzzles by manipulating time. Aside from the NFT you earn by purchasing the game, players can also earn NFTs for completing game achievements. That’s a level-up from the Steam levels, Trophies and Gamerscores. It’s the first time we see game achievements being translated into NFTs.

Pavillion is still in its early days when it comes to being a game distribution platform. They have the racing game 22 Racing Series as their in-house developed game, while the VR first-person shooter Winter Fury became the second game on the platform. With The Gardens Between they added a third, relative big title to their offering.

The Gardens Between won many awards three years ago. The game won the Mac Game of the Year Award from Apple, while also winning at the Australian Game Developer Awards and the Indie Game Festival. Purchase the game on Pavillion here.

What is Pavillion?

Game distribution platform Pavillion is currently in Open Beta. Players can earn NFT achievements in-game and the platform also sells NFT licenses of the games themselves. The platform allows you to connect to Steam and continue to play your existing games while working to break the standard digital distribution methods and put true ownership into the hands of its users.

Using NFTs for game licenses comes with all kinds of benefits. Certain NFTs can give access to certain content, allowing developers to sell premium content or limited access without the risk of piracy. You can’t fake an NFT, as the blockchain registers ownership. As a result the system becomes much more resilient against piracy.

It uses the Phantasma Chain for its blockchain backend, which supports interoperability with Ethereum and NEO, while allowing purchases using USDT & USDC. Read more about the Pavillion platform on the official website.

The action puzzle card game Spells of Genesis will no longer use Book of Orbs, as the developers at EverdreamSoft will discontinue the service. Gamers who still play the game, will need to use alternatives in order to store and share their collectibles. Books of Orbs will go offline on May 31st.

Back in the days before the NFT hype, Spells of Genesis already was a mobile game with tokenized assets. These assets weren’t called NFTs, and they weren’t even on the Ethereum blockchain. Instead EverdreamSoft used Counterparty, which is connected to the Bitcoin blockchain. Now they will discontinue their own Book of Orbs, and hardcore Spells of Genesis players will need to move their Counterparty wallet elsewhere.

The Casa Tookan Wallet would be a good one, as it supports Bitcoin, Counterparty and Ethereum. It’s also very easy to connect Spell of Genesis to it. As a result players can use and send their cards freely. Players can transfer their Books of Orbs account by using the passphrase in Casa Tookan. To find your passphrase, please check the video below:

Wow, this sounds old school

Well, yes, it kinda is. Despite being a bit limited and old school, Counterparty is still being used. As a matter of fact, as people are searching for the first NFTs, they should be looking at digital assets on the Counterparty chain instead of Ethereum. Let’s say you’re interested in dipping your toes into Counterparty, what do you need to do?

  1. Download Free Wallet – this also gives access to a decentralized exchange for digital assets.
  2. With Counterwallet there’s an alternative as well
  3. Get Orb Explorer – a browser to visualize NFTs

What is Spells of Genesis?

Spells of Genesis is one of the pioneering games in the blockchain space, as it launched in 2017 on mobile phones. It was the first mobile game that introduced non-fungible tokens. Instead of Ethereum it used the Bitcoin Counterparty blockchain for that. Over the years the project was halted, revived and even introduced some play-to-earn mechanics. However, those money making efforts were temporary.

In Spells of Genesis players get to select a number of cards before each game. Each of these cards comes with certain powers. Moving from left to right each card gets a turn. On a turn players get to shoot a ball in an effort to destroy obstacles. Depending on the active card, a certain power is used. For example, fire balls can damage multiple targets while shield provides protection against incoming damage.

Amidst the player turns, hostiles also get to attack. They attack individual cards, which can lead to the infamous ‘game over’ message. Certain player cards work well against certain combinations of enemy powers. That’s why gamers need to obtain a variety of cards at the highest level possible. There are two types of cards: in-game ones and tokenized ones on the blockchain.

Over the course of one week 2416 different players have been chipping away tiles from a gigantic Megacube inside Decentraland. Polygonal Mind has created the biggest multiplayer game in Decentraland thus far. During the week an average of 130 players were chipping away tiles from the Megacube at any given moment.

Players who were removing tiles from the Megacube, would find all kinds of prizes. Ranging from artworks by Art Blocks, collectibles from Avastars and our very own $PLAY tokens. The last layer gave away nine different Cryptoavatars, while the final prizes – won by SpartyBJones7821 – provided ERC20 tokens and NFTs from all sponsors involved in the project.

Gamification of virtual worlds is something that’s becoming increasingly popular. While virtual worlds have been art galleries and presentation rooms for some time now, 2021 will bring a lot more gaming into the metaverse. Decentraland was the first, The Sandbox will follow later this year, and Cryptovoxels is looking to add more gamification options as well.

Polygonal Mind active in the metaverse

Polygonal Mind isn’t only responsible for the Megacube. They are a group of artists and developers who are very active in the metaverse. The team is known for their unique 3D avatars, that they auction every week under the CryptoAvatars label.

In addition they are working on an online adventure RPG called Dethrone, which will come to The Sandbox soon. The studio is working on nine different projects at the same time, across a variety of platforms and virtual worlds.
