MegaWorld introduced the ability to create custom buildings a few weeks ago. Now they prepare to launch the next phase, letting owners of custom buildings mint and tokenize Units, designated sections of a customized plot, as NFTs. Scheduled to open on June 29th, Unit minting heralds the beginning of a new era for MegaWorld. One in which avatars roam the world, completing quests, earning coins, and needing a place to sleep!

What are Units?

Units in MegaWorld are an important part of custom buildings. Custom plots can have multiple Units on it defined by the builder, each of which can be minted as a separate NFT and sold or rented for other players! Potential uses include homes, businesses, storage, and crafting shops! Builders can even create multiple floors! Customizing isn’t free though. Builders need to spend a large number of resources to make plot customizations.

These Units can be used as in-game shops or destinations, but their most important feature involves the upcoming ‘MegaWorld Express Delivery’. This update will feature an integrated quest system for players to complete with their in-game avatars. In turn, finishing these quests gives the associated building a production boost. With all of thise work, character avatars will need a place to rest and recuperate, thus introducing the use case for Units as apartments.

What is MegaWorld?

MegaWorld is a virtual city and economic simulation resembling a modern city with streets, buildings, cars, etc. In this game, players can own Citizens, Pets, Land Plots, and even whole Districts. The basic game features players walking (or driving) around the city, completing tasks, and earning MEGA tokens. The game will be free to play, though completing certain tasks may require owning a Citizen NFT.

For those who wish to be more invested, plot ownership allows players to create a variety of buildings from homes, to offices, to factories. Players can even choose to create a custom building on their plot. Buildings earn income in various ways, though they also require upkeep and have a chance to be hit by natural disasters. Players create most of the in-game items, including new Citizens.

Mega World has built out a complex economy with three cities across three interconnected blockchains — Ethereum, Tron, and Binance Chain.

We continue to see more integration of blockchain and music industries this summer. The latest news on that front comes from The Sandbox and Warner Music Group, who have partnered up for a new land sale, referred to as the ‘Infinite Pulse Land Sale’. Registration for the land raffle is open now. The neighborhood with plots available for this land sale features a large estate owned by Warmer Music, plus a number of other musical neighbors, including Blond:ish, Slipknot, Jamiroquai, Pixelynx, and even Elvis Presley (well, his estate anyway)! Just to name a few. This looks to be a pretty tight neighborhood!

Land Sale Info

This sale follows the usual routine that The Sandbox has set up. To purchase one of the available plots outright, participants must first join and win a raffle. Interested parties can enter the raffle at The Sandbox website. Entry is free, though you must have enough SAND tokens in your wallet for the type of plot you wish to purchase (1,011 SAND tokens for a standard plot, 4683 tokens for a premium)

Raffle signups began on June 22nd and remain open through July 12th. Winners will be announced on July 14th, with sales opening that same day and running through July 18th. Any unpurchased plots from the sale head to OpenSea for auction. In addition to the raffle, there will also be 11 Estate plots and 10 small plots up for auction starting on the 14th also. Raffle entry, auctions, and land plot purchases are all on the Polygon network. Purchases are made with SAND tokens.

Also, as an additional bonus for this sale, those who purchase Premium land plots will have an opportunity to win tickets to real life concerts. No details available yet for that. But it’s always nice to see real life perks included in NFT sales!

The Sandbox has been heavily promoting the idea of neighborhoods in their virtual world. At the moment, plot proximity has no effect on gameplay. However, at some point the future, there will be some kind of ability to travel between adjacent plots. Which could make who you have for neighbors somewhat important!

Sandbox Land

Land plots in The Sandbox provide their owners with a number of benefits. Land owners can join a limited, exclusive pool for staking SAND tokens, receive access to special events and early access to new features, and will also receive airdrops of Gems and Catalysts sometime in 2023. Gems and Catalysts will be used to enhance items in The Sandbox.

But, the real reason to own a land in The Sandbox is to build your own game or social experience. This includes art galleries, music clubs, hangouts, and whatever else can be imagined and built. Eventually, land owners will even be able to monetize their experiences. The Sandbox offers VoxEdit, a tool for creating and animating game assets, and Game Maker, a software app for building, designing, and publishing your own Sandbox experience. Both are free to use and receive regular updates with new features.

Well that didn’t take long. ChatGPT and other recent AI releases showed us that AI chat bots had become very skilled at being able to carry on a conversation and recognize natural language prompts. This seemed like a perfect fit for game NPCs, and sure enough, AlterVerse is the first to jump headfirst into the fray, offering a new selection of AI-guided NPCs to chat with in their Sky City social hub.

Players can chat with Avii, found in the starting area, and Omar, who hangs out at Club Sky City. These AIs are powered by Convai, a group specifically building conversational AIs for use in virtual worlds. Use of this AI chat feature will even be available to world builders. Pretty cool!

In addition, the latest version of Sky City sees a few fixes and tweaks as well as a new mini-game, Demolition Derby!

For those who like competitions, AlterVerse is also running daily contests with various NFTs up for grabs. Friday’s contest involves catching a screenshot of mayhem at the Demolition Derby and tweeting about it. Saturday’s contest requires encountering a cave creature in the lava caves and capturing an engaging screenshot. And the final contest on Sunday is all about building a dream coastal home in the Playa Diablo section of Sky City.

What is Sky City?

Sky City is the central social hub for all of Alterverse. The team refers to it as a MMOSSG, or Massively Multiplayer Online Social Sandbox Game. Built in Unreal 5, Sky City is a 3D, virtual city experience including customizable avatars, built-in voice chat, art galleries, virtual shops, racing games, a day/night cycle, and more! What is AlterVerse?

AlterVerse is a new metaverse in development. With a decentralized, 3D, multiplayer, interconnected, VR-enabled platform, AlterVerse aims to claim a spot in an increasingly crowded field.

Servers for AlterVerse are player owned, with various customizable, pre-built environments and games. AlterVerse automatically adds newly launched game servers to the server list for players to access. At the center of this lies Sky City, a social hub with customizable spaces and storefronts for partnerships. One of those partners Double Protocol, offers an NFT renting system. Not only will Double Protocol own an in-game office, but they will also power the in-game rental market, allowing players to rent out land plots and other items!

Sky City is considered Phase 1 of the AlterVerse. Phase 2 includes Outpost, a FPS, sci-fi shooter with quests, mining and crafting. Phase 3 brings us Rekt, a hard core survival game set on a hostile planet. Sky City is currently in beta testing. Expect to see alphas for both Outpost and Rekt soon.

When NFT Worlds rebranded to Topia, they also relaunched their World NFTs, and paused their NFT staking feature. But things are starting to come together for the Topia team, and they are ready to restart their staking program!

Staking Worlds for TOPIA Tokens

The Topia World staking program launches on June 14th. This incentive-based system rewards World owners with TOPIA tokens for holding and locking their NFTs. Tokens are distributed on a daily basis, proportionally among all the stakers. And as added bonus for early adopters, Topia will distribute an extra tokens among all of those who stake a World within the first 72 hours of the site going live. 30 million to be exact! With only 10,000 Worlds available, that’s a guaranteed minimum of 3,000 tokens per land — though the actual numbers will likely be much higher!

And for everyone who had an unclaimed balance from the previous staking system, no worries! That remaining balance will convert into claimable TOPIA tokens, accessible from the World Management page. Additionally, everyone who was already staking when the system was paused, will also receive a backpay of staking rewards for the month that the site was closed.

Those who still holding the deprecated WRLD tokens can migrate them via https://www.topia.gg/convert-wrld (note: the WRLD tokens must be on the Ethereum mainnet to swap). Liquidity pools and staking system for TOPIA should be live sometime soon.

Topia also recently introduced the first version of the governance proposal system. Token holders can create and vote on proposals via the governance page.

What is Topia?

Topia is a collection of virtual worlds, each of which can be customized, managed, and monetized by their owner. The game features a Minecraft style feel and gameplay with improved graphics.

Topia already has an Armory feature available. This is kind of a mini-world, wardrobe feature. The Armor allows players to preview their avatar appearance while running and jumping in a small game space. Owners of NFT Worlds and Gray Boys avatars can already see their NFTs the Armory.

Billed as a better, web3 version of Minecraft, Topia will include an in-app marketplace, wallet-free logins, support for custom content and tokens, the ability to play in a browser, and plenty more! They are also very focused on creating a set of developer tools that fully meet the needs of those creating the custom content. Topia expects to launch in late 2023.

The closed beta will run in sessions. One every two weeks. Scheduled to start on June 9th and run through the weekend, this first preview of the game will offer three regions to explore, The Epicenter, Apex Raceway, and Razorback Ridge.

The alpha playtest for Worlds Beyond launches on June 7th. These games will be open to everyone and available for download via the Worlds Beyond launcher at https://worldsbeyondnft.com/. Players can even earn Infinity Credits by participating! These Credits can be redeemed for Loot Chests, Mining Keys for WBITS, NFTs, and more!

Last Stand is a battle royal game, while Fun Runners is a racing, Fall Guys style game. Both of these games were created with the same sort of tools that will be provided to landowners to create their own experiences. Though it should be noted that this is a very early release. And since creating templates and tools for others to build out their world experiences is the core focus of Worlds Beyond, there will certainly be a lot more options in the future!

It’s unclear if these games will be a permanent feature or if this is a limited time event. The team plans to hold a Twitter Space session on June 8th at 10am CST. Perhaps they will provide more details about their future plans then!

In addition, the Worlds Beyond land staking program should go live soon as well. This will allow land owners to earn passive income for holding onto their plots. The land deeds are still unrevealed and can be picked up on Open Sea (current floor of 0.1 ETH)

What is Worlds Beyond?

Described (by themselves) as a web3 version of Roblox for adults, Worlds Beyond is an ecosystem of community built, virtual worlds and games.

Worlds Beyond follows much of the standard plans for virtual world systems – world customization, developer tools support, game launcher, etc. But, Worlds Beyond is also leaning heavily into the AI trend, utilizing AI to help build out tools such as terrain generation. As part of that, they are working on developing an AI-assisted, text to 3D model system. This will let creators describe what sort of things they want to create, and let the AI do the tedious work of putting it all together.

They will also offer an NFT minting feature in the form of Blueprints. There will be two types — Environmental Blueprints and Logic blueprints. Environmental Blueprints include terrain, buildings, and other game assets. Logic Blueprints contain all the same information as Environmental Blueprints, but they also save all of the game rules and logic for the world as well.

Builders take snapshots of their world and games to create these Blueprints. They can then be sold, traded, or even rented to to other creators! Anyone can use these Blueprints to instantly create a copy of the world or game contained inside, and then make whatever changes they want. This will be a great feature opportunity for professional builders!

But they have really chosen to launch it in style, giving a number of communities from other games chances to assemble teams of their finest warriors. Guilds, friend groups, and gatherings of random strangers are all are invited as well to attempt to be the first in the world to slay Old Sally! Some of the gaming communities are offering extra prizes and incentives for their players, so check around to find the right group for you.

The Old Sally Event

To defeat Old Sally, players must gather up in groups and set off into the sewers. None of the participants will have any sort of early access to Old Sally. Everyone will be starting this event off with the same lack of knowledge and will have to learn through trial and error! Servers for the event open on June 8th at 3pm CST. Old Sally won’t become available until 4pm, giving everyone a chance to get themselves and their team ready. Old Sally will be active until 7pm, with a one hour wind-down and social hour afterwards.

What is Champions Ascension?

Champions Ascension is an arena-based, gladiatorial combat game built inside a virtual world. Champions Ascension held an initial sale of Prime Eternals in early 2022. Prime Eternals are generative NFTs with varying attributes that function as in-game characters and as profile picture NFTs. This is officially dubbed a private beta, but if you keep an eye on the Illuvium Twitter and Discord accounts, there are plenty of opportunities to win a key. You can also apply for a key here.

This is the second major beta release for Illuvium Overworld, the open world RPG game about gathering resources, crafting items, and capturing Illuvials.

More About the Beta

This beta brings a major expansion to the world, with two new zones and many new Illuvials. The two new zones are Abyssal Basin, an area of marshlands and bioluminescent lighting, and the Brightland Steppes, an open, vibrant area with bubble rides that let players ride to the highest areas of the zone.

The beta release also introduced new movement options to Illuvium, allowing players to glide and fly across the landscape. With the wingsuit players can fly through the air for a short time, while the friction board is kind of a surfboard for hills and slopes.

Players can navigate between the various zones via portals. The outer zones offer various nodes for resource gathering, and opportunities to capture Illuvials. Players need to look for the swirling, floating bubbles, and target them with their gun. Sometimes, a successful hit will pin down an Illuvial, allowing the player to enter into an arena fight to try and win control of the creature. These fights are on-off battles against an NPC team. If payers win the match, and they have the right kind of Shard in their pack, they can capture the essence of the Illuvial in the shard. Gather three Shards and craft them into an Illuvial creature that can be used in future encounters!

This update also brings some major rebalancing to the Illuvials, making their roles and archetypes more distinct. In addition, there have been some changes to synergies, and the overload mechanic. You can read the full patch notes for the Arena here.

The new beta can be downloaded from the Illuvium website. The installation file is just over 17 gigs in size.

What is Illuvium Overworld?

Illuvium Overworld is an open-world RPG adventure game. Players gather resources for crafting and hunt for elusive Illuvials to try and capture them. However, every gathering process or Illuvial encounter costs energy. And players have a limited amount of energy to use before they need to recharge.

Illuvium Overworld will feature over 100 Illuvials to capture, each with different attributes and powers. Capture them, upgrade them and combine two Iluvials to fuse a new one. Players can store their Illuvials on Shards, a bit like a collectible card. These cards hold the essence of an Illuvial. Players can trade shards in the marketplace or give them to a friend.

Though the core Illuvium game is an open-world adventure game that is part crafting, part auto-battler, and part creature collector, the Illuvium web3 space encompasses more. This includes Illuvium Zero, a land-based builder game, Illuvium Arena, a PvE, arena, survival contest, and Illuvium Beyond, a PFP customization game.

Illuvium also has their own marketplace known as the IlluviDex. This will serve as a central point for trading all things Illuvium related. Illuvium also includes a token staking system and player governance in the form of a Council that goes through regular election periods.

The newly released docs have quite a bit of information. But there are three key points — Topia World NFTs, tokenomics for the TOPIA token, and how it all fits together into the upcoming Topia chain.

Topia Worlds

The World NFTs were the core of NFT Worlds and they are the core in Topia as well. World owners will be able to customize not only the appearance of their world, but also setup world rules and create custom content. They can also monetize their game world via entry fees, selling unique content and customizations, tournaments, and that sort of thing.

Prior to their shutdown, NFT Worlds had a number of verified builders that were available to hire for those without the time and/or skills to customize their worlds. It’s likely that we will see a number of similar services available for World owners with Topia.

Tokenomics

The new token, TOPIA, should launch this month (May 2023). There will be a token transition from WRLD to TOPIA. The team will open a swap page once the new token is ready, allowing WRLD holders to swap 1:1 for TOPIA tokens. This feature will be available for tokens on both Polygon and Ethereum.

TOPIA has a limited supply of 5 billion tokens and will be used to pay for network fees. It also serves as the governance token for the system. Holders will be able to vote on community proposals.

Topia will include a staking system, open to everyone. However, this system also powers a TOPIA token faucet for World owners. Owners can stake their own TOPIA tokens, and receive a steady drip of tokens from the faucet which they can then use to distribute to players in their game as rewards. Token staking also offers periodical rewards such as NFT lootboxes, cosmetic items, and special titles.

Users can earn TOPIA tokens by staking World and Avatar NFTs.

Topia Chain

The Topia team is building their own, ecosystem-specific sidechain. This sidechain will be only for Topia and related projects. Everyone can access the chain and interact with the contracts, but only World owners and approved developers will be able to deploy new contracts. Anyone who owns a Topia World will have access to launching new smart contracts, creating NFT item collections for their World, and applying to have their custom items accepted as part of the larger ecosystem.

All of the tools from MetaFab will be integrated closely into Topia chain. MetaFab is an offshoot of NFT Worlds and is building a suite of tools and services that let developers easily integrate their apps with blockchain technology.

The Life Beyond economy rests on three principles — gaming activity on a side-chain, a custodial wallet for frictionless, in-game, transactions, and a dual-currency system.

Like many other web3 projects these days, Life Beyond is building with an eye towards making their game frictionless to play, and bringing in new players from the web2 world. Part of effort includes offering a gaming experience that has no requirements for maintaining a personal wallet, or interacting directly with the blockchain. This will be accomplished by hosting most of the game activities on a side-chain, and providing an in-game, custodial wallet for all players.

Players can participate in Life Beyond, without every having to worry about on-chain tokens and NFTs if they want.

Life Beyond Tokenomics

Life Beyond will feature a two token system. These tokens are DOLS and an unnamed token that is currently referred to as FT (Fungible Token). DOLS will be an in-game currency only. It can be exchanged for FT in-game, but will never exist anywhere else. Meanwhile, the other token (FT), will be transferrable between the game’s custodial wallet, and traditional wallets on the mainchain via a bridge.

Most of the basic game functions will be kept to the sidechain and use DOLS as the currency. This includes player progression, building infrastructure, purchases on the in-game markets, and trading goods and services between players.

The FT token will be used for any NFT interactions such as repairing NFT items, crafting, minting, decorations, pets, etc. They will offer various items on their own marketplace, payable in FT. This can include items such as Land plots, Mystery Boxes, and other goodies. FT will also be used for staking. FT token staking can increase DOL emissions from land ownership, and will offer access to exclusive items in-game. And finally, FT will also serve as a governance token, letting players vote on decisions regarding the future of Life Beyond.

The Hub

Though their alpha playtest closed some time ago, Life Beyond has opened up ‘The Hub’. The Hub is a social space for players to interact and show off their characters, clothing, and equipment. This will be the central space for the main game and it already includes a couple of features. One is the Founder’s Terminal – a tribute plaque with the names of the first 500 Founders to join Life Beyond. The Hub also includes a terminal, with slides and information about the flora and fauna — information that players discovered during the alpha playtests and which they can now peruse at their leisure!

There aren’t many clothing options yet. But players with the Agent Zero Jackets can wear those on their avatars in The Hub. Players can download The Hub here.

What is Life Beyond?

Life Beyond is a free-to-play, play-and-earn, FPS-style MMORPG with a third-person view. In Life Beyond, players are citizens of the Dolos Planet, an alien world around a distant star. During the first alpha, players worked to clear and defend land for the first settlement. Along the way they encountered a variety of hostile wildlife, many of them similar to giant, alien roaches!

The game follows the lore, with reasoning for the alpha events and shutdowns written in as part of the storyline. Players go on solo or group Missions for experience and rewards. But while doing so, they also help contribute towards larger, community goals which open up new events and prizes.

Players have four classes to choose from, each with a different weapon selection. Try them out on solo missions or sign up for group missions to receive greater rewards.
