Customization is the theme of season 3. After already introducing resource gathering through activities such as fishing and farming, My Neighbor Alice is now ready to open up crafting in their game. Players will have access to a new crafting system, allowing them to create wearable items for their avatars and decorations for their land plots.

At the end of Alpha Season 3, all reward items and items that players crafted using ALICE tokens will migrate to Season 4 with no action required by the player. However, all other items will be wiped for the next phase.

This season also brings a partnership with the real life brand Elle. Players will be able to engage in special quests and earn Elle branded, decorative item NFTs from the “MOTS D’AMOUR” collection.

Participants can play for free in season 3 via a borrowing system. This system lets players make use of a free, though limited, parcel of land from the Alice Foundation. Players will need a WalletConnect compatible wallet for authentication. If this is something that you are interested in, you may want to fill out the pre-registration form. It seems like they may have limited slots available for this playtest.

Season 3 of My Neighbor Alice begins on June 27th and runs through August 8th.

Chromia

For this season, My Neighbor Alice is moving to their own appnet on Chromia. This means if you want to use ALICE tokens in-game (such as for crafting exclusive items), they will need to be bridged over from Binance Smart Chain. We’re still waiting on details about this bridge feature. Keep an eye on the Chromia Twitter feed and the social channels for My Neighbor Alice for further into.

Chromia offers several benefits, including free transactions, fast and efficient storage of data, and decentralized game logic. In addition, player sign in and progress are handled entirely on-chain, removing reliance on centralized services such as AWS. Every action performed in the game, such as fishing, farming, crafting, questing, is recorded and validated on the blockchain.

What is My Neighbor Alice?

My Neighbor Alice is a multiplayer blockchain-based building and farming game. Players can own and buy virtual islands and meet friends while building and collecting items. The game is sort of a multiplayer, Stardew Valley. Players grow crops, fish, craft, decorate, and trade. But My Neighbor Alice has quite a bit of complexity to it. For example, each body of water has a different selection of fish in it — with different fish preferring different types of bait!

My Neighbor Alice includes a companion mobile app called Alice’s Wardrobe. Players can decorate their avatar in this app and then save their appearance to the blockchain for use in the main game. They also have their own marketplace, with item transactions using the game’s ALICE token.

Continuum World launches First Explorers, the initial phase of their gathering and building gameplay. In First Explorers, players harvest materials from land plots, either from the wild, or through a building constructed by a player.

Each wild harvest brings in 1-3 different resources based on the type and rarity of the plot. Players can receive harvest bonuses by equipping their Umi with clothing / accessories. Wild resources spawn randomly. Players just have to look around the map to find an available spot. There are also random chests that appear which can contain UM tokens or trophy points. Players need energy to harvest wild resources, which replenishes slowly over time. Or, they can choose to purchase batteries, which will refill energy supplies.

Each biome type produces different resources. And each rarity level also has a special resource only available at that rarity, making all plots worthwhile. In addition, some resources can only be acquired from buildings.

Players who own the buildings receive a steady, passive income of the associated resource. Other players can pay a fee to use a building to acquire resources, with a small percentage of that fee going directly to the owning player.

The purpose of gathering all of these resources is to complete Missions. Each Mission has a specific reward, and a specific set of resources needed. Rewards include UM tokens, trophy points (for a leaderboard), and NFTs. As you might imagine, acquiring an NFT item will require significantly more resources than the other rewards. All of the missions have a limited number of times they can be completed, so there is some competition among players. When missions run out they will be replaced with new Mission options.

The game itself is free to play. Anyone can join in now and start gathering!

What is Continuum World?

Continuum World is a fantasy world of sky islands players collect resources and improve their avatars, or UMi. Whether exploring the world or farming their own land, gathering resources is the aim of the game. Used for crafting, upgrades, and Missions (quests), resources come in a variety of types based on the type of biome on the land, and the rarity of the land.

Continuum World is free to play, though those who own land can earn passive income, and those who equip their Umi avatars with NFT items receive bonuses to their harvests.

Starting on February 22nd, at 11:30 GMT, Axie Homeland Alpha Season 1 brings the first version of AXS rewards to the game. And, since rewards are now available, everyone will see their progress reset and they must start building up their land from scratch again. Also, be prepared to have all progress erased at the end of alpha season one as well.

Alpha Season 1 will last for 30 days. At the end, of the season, the top 500 players in Passive Adventure and in Land Development earn mAXS (1,000 mAXS = 1 AXS token). For reference, one AXS token is currently worth about $11 USD. So the top player from the Passive Adventure leaderboard could win tokens worth over $2,000!

This will be the first chance that players have to receive rewards for decorating and developing their land plot. Also, the Passive Adventure feature will see some upgrades to the game mechanics, and the ability to form parties of up to three adventurers! In addition, the Axie team plans to hold a plot decorating contest during the season, also with AXS rewards.

Though apparently there will be some sort of free to play option in the future, right now, players must own an Axie land plot to participate in the Homeland alpha. Anyone who doesn’t already own an Axie land plot can pick one up from the official marketplace. But be warned, the floor price for an Axie land is approaching 1 ETH!

What is Axie Homeland?

Axie Homeland is a game about building and growing on your land plot while putting your Axies to work. The main goal of Homeland is to manage a settlement as efficiently as possible in order to equip adventurers with gear and supplies to defeat waves of monsters. The more successful these adventurers are, the more rewards the landowner receives. Players need to grow crops and construct buildings, assigning Axies to take care of the work.

Right now, Axie Homeland offers the following features:

• Gather – gather raw materials from the surrounding environment
• Craft – craft powerful gear and supplies for your adventurers
• Trade – trade with native adventurers and other landowners for in-game currency
• Decorate – beautify your land plot
• Build – build the necessary infrastructure to craft gear and process raw materials

• Explore – explore the world of Lunacia as landowners turn their empty land plots into massive settlements

Presumably, at some point in the future, this will tie back into Axie Origins, with both games supporting each other in different ways.

Mini-Royale, a Solana-based, play-in-your-browser FPS, recently opened up a public alpha for Faraway Land, a town building, product making game where players will be able to craft Gear NFTs for use in the Mini-Royale game!

Apparently, this is NOT the official land gameplay for Mini-Royale. It is instead a different, cross-project game.

What is Faraway Land?

Faraway Land is a town building game similar to Town Star. Players construct buildings, make products, sell them, and buy and upgrade more buildings to create increasingly complex products. The higher level the building or product, the longer it takes to complete. Players can speed up production by spending BUTTER, a token reward from Mini-Royale. BUTTER is also used to open up new production spots in buildings.

The town will need people and power as well, so players must also construct housing, and power supplies such as solar panels and wind turbines. Some buildings are gated by population or player level. When players run out of room for their town, they can clear areas for further construction. They can also sell goods via a delivery system. However, this a quest sort of feature where players can only sell goods that are requested in the black market.

Players gain experience as they construct new buildings and complete products. Higher levels open up more building options. Players receive rewards at each level in the form of Cash and in-game goods. They can also receive Blueprints, which will be needed to make the Factories to construct Gear items. The game requires 12 duplicate blueprints in order to construct a Factory. Factories produce Gear which players can later mint into NFTs through Mini-Royale.

Each town can only have one Factory, so choose wisely!

Faraway Land Alpha

Since this an early alpha test, expect everything to be wiped at least once and many changes to be introduced into the game. But be warned! Any and all BUTTER tokens spent in this alpha will be taken from your wallet and not refunded! So you might want to think twice before you open those extra slots or pay for a rush completion.

The game is still in its early development stages. More features and polish will be introduced as development progresses. Faraway Land uses the same login credentials as Mini-Royale. So you don’t need to reset your password when trying to join the game like I did.

Also, as a reward to testers, the Mini-Royale team will take a snapshot of the game’s players on February 28th. All players who reached level 24 or higher in Faraway Land will be entered in a raffle to potentially win 250 Shards for Mini-Royale.

The game is pretty standard for its type. But it was fun to play and is easily something you can have open in a separate browser window while you’re doing other things. Well into season two of alpha, which ends on February 14th, My Neighbor Alice reveals the final of four community quests. Not only can players earn rewards by helping to complete these quests, but the results of the quests will determine some of what happens in season 3 of the alpha!

The alpha seasons for My Neighbor Alice are currently only open to those who hold land plots. Players can pick up land plots on the official marketplace for about 150 ALICE tokens, which equals about $280 USD at the time of this article.

Season 2 sees players working on completing four community quests. Each of these quests are connected to Town Hubs, centralized social spaces. This quest event is part of the upcoming transition to season three, where these newly constructed buildings will play a part in the game! The more contributions that the players make during these quests, the more buildings will be added in season three. These town hubs will be important gathering points in My Neighbor Alice, and the team expects to see several in each region as the playerbase grows.

Players who help complete these quests can earn up to three placeable NFTs and one equippable NFT. Also, everyone who participates in alpha season 2 will receive a surprise reward at the end of the season.

Continuum World launches the first preview of their game on February 6th with the opening of First Explorers. Free to play, and featuring potential prizes for everyone, this event is a chance for Continuum World to show players what they have been building.

And, joining on the the Lunar New Year celebrations, the Continuum World marketplace will offer specially themed items for sale this coming week. They say that anyone who acquires all of the Lunar New Year items will receive a “very, very precious” item for the next alpha. Those items should start appearing in the marketplace on Monday, January 30th.

First Explorers Event

First Explorers features players gathering resources with their UMiBot. The UMibot has limited energy however, and each harvest costs energy. Energy replenishes slowly over time (one point every 30 minutes). Otherwise, impatient players can pay a fee in UM tokens to give their bot additional energy.

Also, landowners will be able to construct buildings on their land by staking UM tokens (5000 tokens per building). Buildings automatically produce exclusive resources that cannot be found in wildlands. Other players can pay a fee to use a landowner’s building.

In this First Explorers event, players will be able to work on completing over 1,000 missions, and earn NFTs in the form of land decorations and clothing items. Players can receive bonuses while playing if they wear clothing items from the ORIGIN collection. Players can also find Mystery Boxes while exploring. Opening a Mystery Box takes one energy.

Each mission requires three different resources and can be completed multiple times by every player. When the mission runs out of rewards or the time expires, it is replaced with another mission. There will always be 14 different missions available. Players earn points towards a global leaderboard as they harvest resources and complete missions. The top 100 players on the leaderboard will receive UM tokens and NFT rewards at the end of the event.

What is Continuum World?

Mark Skaggs is now involved with the game and is one of the team members behind this decision. This is extremely bullish for GALA Games and Town Star. For those who do not know Mark, he was behind the Facebook title Farmville that made grandmas wake up at 4 AM to harvest some crops and feed their virtual chickens. That game went viral back in the day! At some point, it counted 100,000,000 active players! Great games take time to be developed, polished and balanced. Town Star is no exception. The game saw numerous changes since its birth in 2020 and now it is time to reshape its tokenomics.

What will change?

All $TOWN must be swapped by $GALA at the exchange rate of 2:1. In the next 60 days the platform where players can do the exchange will be live. When it comes to Town Star nodes, instead of earning $TOWN, node holders will earn $GALA. This will happen via a burn-to-mint mechanism identical to Spider Tanks. Players must do the exchange in a period of 180 days, otherwise they will lose their tokens.

This change will contribute to the sustainability of the whole GALA Games ecosystem. Every time a player buys an item with $GALA there will be a burn of those tokens. Then, a portion of that $GALA is going to be minted for node holders and another portion will go to Play-and-Earn in Town Star. This change will also increase the demand for $GALA and eventually will help to create buying pressure.

New Version of Town Star

The team will take some time to implement these changes. In January there will be a playtest and in February the game will launch with the following changes:

• Play&Earn system where players can earn $GALA
• Decorating game
• View other player’s towns
• Players will be able to upgrade their NFTs
• The game will be cheat proof
• More competions
• Decoration competitions

Meanwhile, players can still enjoy Town Star while the new version is being developed.

Last Thoughts

GALA Games simply does not stop growing and improving. They now count several AAA titles that players can enjoy for free like Spider Tanks and Superior. Then, all their games have innovative tokenomics and now $GALA has a new utility within Town Star. Last but not least, they are launching the GALA films and they are purchasing Ember Entertainment which will bring new mobile titles to GALA Games.

No gaming ecosystem managed to grow as fast as GALA. I do believe that right now they are the best gaming ecosystem in web3. The only that can compete with them is Immutable X, which might be falling behind. Personally, I am bullish on GALA Games and will keep a close eye on the ecosystem. Tasks are basically a quest system for Farming Tales. Deliver the required amount of products to the Trader, and the Trader gives you a special item in return.

Currently, the trader offers only a couple of items, but this will expand in the future. The current top-tier items offered are Peach Trees. Only 100 Peach Tree NFTs total are available, with 22 of them already crafted. These are legendary rarity NFTs and only one tree can be staked per farm. These are game NFTs only (i.e., they don’t have real world equivalents like some of the other plants).

More Quests ahead!

The team also revealed plans for their next two major quests, both of which do involve real life items! The first is for Olive Trees. Like the Peach Tree, players craft these by exchanging goods at the Trader. However, the goods needed for an Olive Tree make quite an extensive list! The quantities are not yet revealed, but the items needed include Vegetable Nut, Bread, Beer, Nail, Brown Sugar, White Sugar, Fish Fillet, Corn Flakes, Shirt, Grappa, Royal Jelly, and Butter!

Olive Trees will be stakable and in the future, linked to production of real-life olive oil.

The second upcoming quest involves shoes. For an even longer list of items, the Trader will provide players with a shoe NFT. Owners of this NFT can redeem it in exchange for a real-life pair of Farming Tales branded sneakers! Crafted by an Italian artisan, apparently!

These quests are an important step towards bringing the actual game economy online. I just hope in the future they make some logical sense rather than just trying to provide a use-case for every single item in the game. But Farming Tales definitely deserves a shout-out for continuing their line of NFTs that equate to real world items!

What Else for Farming Tales?

Also coming to Farming Tools soon is a new crafting system for farm items such as animals and buildings. Currently, these items can be purchased directly in-game for SEST tokens. However, this functionality will instead move over to the Task / Quest system.

In a further boost to the player economy, Farming Tales has also introduced a new ‘Crating’ feature. Crating lets players can box up their goods for sale and mint them as NFTs. Players can purchase these crates and then burn the NFT to receive the goods inside in their Barn (make sure you have enough room beforehand!).

Before this new Crate system, Seeds were the only in-game good that also existed as an NFT. This is an important prelude to another major, upcoming change.

In another upcoming move to bring the game economy online, players will soon no longer be able to simply sell their products directly from their Barn for SEST tokens. In the near future, players will either need to Crate and sell their farm produced items as NFTs, or take them into town and refine them into other products. This will greatly decrease the amount of new SEST tokens coming into the system. It should also spark some additional NFT trading volume on external markets.

What is Moonville Farms?

Moonville Farms is a farming game on Myria’s ecosystem. Players have to choose a location, start their farming empires from scratch, harvest resources in the most efficient way possible, trade, and get ahead of the competition. After the global timer reaches 0, every farm will reset. At that point, players will earn prizes based on their performance.

Its economy and game loops are identical to the GALA title Town Star. It is a farming game, but, unlike games of the same genre, it requires players to take strategic decisions. Examples of this are the location of the farm, or which resources to trade, or even the proximity of some buildings to other buildings! Also, there is a lot to think about when it comes to optimizing a farm in this game.

It is a game that I recommend for all genre lovers. It is still in its early days but it already shows a lot of potential in the industry. If this is your first time hearing about Moonville Farms I am going to leave you a video done by the team.

Under the new farming system in season 2, farmers need not wait for the fruit plants to bear fruits or root vegetables to grow through the soil. Instead, players can plant crops on the same land and merge them into bigger plants. Growing crops makes the soil fertile and allows players to grow crops on the same land easily. Also, players have been able to use only 40% of the resources designed by the developers so far. In season 2, you can exchange fish caught with seeds, which can then be sown to grow plants and eventually yield materials.

Players must own a land to join Alpha Season 2 for My Neighbor Alice. The next season should be open to the public.

Design Philosophy of the game

The game designers have shared some stories behind the game plot. The story involves a boy named Robin who lives near a fishing village on the Southern coast of Sweden. He loves fishing with his father, which is why fishing was an enjoyable activity in Season 1. The plot also refers to a Swedish tradition in which children steal apples from the farm and feed them to forest mooses. These small incidents inspire the game plot.

My Neighbor Alice has partnered with ELLE, a major global lifestyle brand, to promote the brand on the web3 space. Through this partnership, players can directly interact with the ELLE brand through virtual experiences in My Neighbor Alice. Additionally, players can participate in ELLE-branded experiences and quests in the future.
