Want an avatar that can be used across multiple games? Then maybe the Parallel Avatar mint is the thing for you! Parallel wants their avatars to be a central, playable character across a variety of games, starting with their trading card game. Players who equip their Avatar, and win with a deck that matches the Avatar earn extra PRIME tokens when winning matches. In addition, owning an Avatar provides early access to Colony, a new AI-driven game in the works by the Parallel team, use in other, upcoming games, and even access to a casting call to have your Avatar appear in a future Parallel comic!

These avatars will be full 3d models. As a test, the team has been running simulations with their avatars in an Unreal engine setting, and it looks like their tests are going pretty well!

Parallel Avatar Mint Info

There are 3 ways to mint one of these Parallel Avatars The first phase of the Parallel Avatar sale begins on July 6th. This will be for those on the ‘Manifest’ and Avatars will cost 11 PRIME tokens (~$20 USD). The Manifest is an allowlist feature that Parallel has used for previous drops, meant to reward those who are most invested in the game. This Manifest includes Masterpiece holders, all of Echelon’s Ardent program members, and Prismatic Key Holders. The snapshot for the Manifest will happen sometime next week.

After that, in mid-July, there will be a public sale on OpenSea. No price has yet been set for the public portion of this drop. On to of that, there will also be an option to Play to mint by completing the Avatar Challenge in the game. Details on this have also not been revealed yet. The team says to expect more info on the play to mint feature closer to the beta release, which could be as soon as late July.

What is Parallel?

Parallel is a sci-fi themed TCG with some interesting mechanics. A lot of it is the standard stuff we expect with a digital TCG these days. Two players build a deck of cards and then take turns drawing and playing these cards in a duel. The first player to reduce their opponent to zero life wins. Cards come in three types — units, effects (spells), and relics. Parallel offers five ‘Parallels’, which are similar to gods / summoners / champions / etc. in other games.

Players build decks of 40 cards in Parallel. Each deck can have up to three copies of a card in their deck, except for Legendary cards, which may only be included once. Each deck can use cards from one Parallel and also cards that are marked as Universal. In addition, players choose a Paragon for their deck. Paragons offer passive bonuses throughout the match no matter their status, and then also function as in-play units with stats and potentially other bonuses or effects.

The mana / energy system in Parallel requires players to ‘bank’ cards from their hand. Each card banked provides one additional maximum energy each turn. Players begin the game with zero energy, so they will need to bank at least one card. Players can bank one card per turn. And on a turn that they bank a card, they draw an extra card at the end of their turn.

Players who win matches with NFT cards in their deck receive PRIME tokens. Parallel will include a free to play option as well.

PRIME is the main game token, and card collectors can already earn some by staking their cards. Also, Parallel offers a card creation tool called Payload. Players can pay a fee in PRIME tokens to generate new cards. In addition, Parallel supports ‘Artigraph’ cards — NFT cards that are digitally signed by the artist. Players can acquire these limited edition cards by paying a fee and upgrading an existing card.

Already offering a shared world with unique avatars based on NFTs and a drunken race that happens right in the middle of the town, Champions Ascension continues to expand their selection of in-game mini-games.

Slice of Massina Mini-games

The latest mini-game addition to the game world is a dice rolling and bluffing game called Dudo. Players roll dice, and then, knowing only their total of their own dice, begin guessing the total of all player’s dice. Each player has to increase the number guessed as turns pass around the table, until someone thinks that number has gotten too high and calls out ‘LO DUDO!’ There is also a newly implemented rule called Wild Aces with some more complex calculations involving any “1” rolls. You can view the complete rules in-game. For this and any of the mini-games, actually. Which is pretty cool.

They still have Drunk Racing, where players drink beers as their view and character control become increasingly erratic. Also Crab Racing, which is my current favorite. Matches take under a minute with a 15 second break in between. The game is spectate only, but still fun to watch. And I’m totally down for owning and breeding crabs for these races!

There is also another mini-game near release. Something to do with the flower shop. We don’t know anything about it yet, but I look forward to seeing what the team brings us next!

We’ve seen a number of in development projects create mini-games to keep their players entertained. But we don’t see many actually put them into their game world. And even in a lore accurate manner! These aren’t web3 mini-games. These are events your characters are participating in, within the game world! This is definitely an impressive production from Champions Ascension. They seem to be all in on building a full, virtual world to host their fighting game. And so far, they are off to a great start!

The game isn’t open 24/7 yet, but they do have regular sessions. Keep an eye on their Discord and Twitter for announcements about game availability.

Elemental Eternal Free Mint

Champions Ascension is offering a free NFT mint towards the end of the year (2022) for those holding Prime Eternal NFTs. This batch is known as the Elemental Eternals. There will only be 10,000 of them, with a majority of those going to Prime Eternal holders. These will be playable characters, provide access to the early game previews, and offer other game benefits. They will also have exclusive, ‘Sublime’ body parts, that cannot be inherited by offspring and which will never be released again!

And though the team has promised for the free mint to happen by the end of the year, they haven’t said when or where the remaining Elemental Eternals will be released. Since there are only 7.6k Prime Eternals, that should leave another 2.4k Elemental Eternals available.

But, if you want to guarantee access to an Elemental Eternal, you can pick up a Prime Eternal on Open Sea.

What is Champions Ascension?

Champions Ascension is an upcoming, gladiatorial combat game built inside a virtual world. Though the 3D combat was the original selling point, and the centerpiece of the game, Champions Ascension is also building an open world around it. One where players can walk around and interact, that includes crafting, breeding, land ownership, an in-game marketplace, a staking system, mini-games, and more!

Champions Ascension held an initial sale of Prime Eternals in early 2022. With only 7,622 in existence, Prime Eternals grant many benefits that other characters won’t receive. This includes guaranteed land mints, special breeding options, early access, and, recently released, an airdrop of Pet NFTs. Prime Eternals are generative NFTs with varying attributes that function as in-game characters and as profile picture NFTs.

Champions Ascension is currently running regular game previews for Prime Eternal NFT holders. These events, known as Slice of Massina, offer various mini-games. Play games to win tickets and purchase special items.

The initial sale for MetaBeasts was not so successful. In fact, the sales were so poor, that the team made some radical decisions. The first was to close the mint early. The second was to give away all of the rest of the Season One NFTs for free! Growing their community is of paramount importance to the team, and they felt a free mint was the best way to go!

But those who did purchase Beasts from the initial mint are not forgotten. They have already received one free airdrop. And, if they continue to hold, they will also have first access to the free mint as well as a second airdrop!

Give me those free mints!

Free mints for everyone! Well, not everyone. There are 3,000 Season One Beasts available for the free mint. One per wallet, though those with pre-sale access may be able to mint two. I’m not sure about that last part. Anyone holding a MetaBeast during the snapshot on August 17th (no specific time given), receives a pass for the pre-sale.

If you don’t hold any MetaBeasts and don’t want to buy any before the snapshot, then you will need to join their Discord and do a little work in order to be eligible for the free mint role.

Pre-sale for the free mint begins on August 22nd at 6am PST. Public sale begins 24 hours later on August 23rd, 6am PST.

Now, the catch is, that these free mints will only include common and uncommon beasts. However, those who hold MetaBeast NFTs on the snapshot date, will be airdropped an equal number of rare/epic MetaBeasts! So maybe picking up a Beast or two from the secondary market is not such a bad idea?

What is MetaBeasts?

MetaBeasts is an art/avatar project that seeks to build a multimedia empire around their NFTs. The first use case would be implementing these NFTs as an avatar or character throughout the games in the MetaBeasts universe. The team has plans to build a voxel-based game, a card game, arena PvP, and even an open-world RPG! 

MetaBeasts NFTs come in six rarities, from Common to Ancient. They also have an associated Element type such as Fire, Earth, or Steel. Some Beasts may even have a fusion of two Elements. Each Beast has four attributes — Health, Dexterity, Strength, and Recovery. To make it easy to incorporate these stats into a wide variety of games, the team chose to use a simple, 1-10 scale for all stats, with 10 being the best.

How the games use these stats may vary, but the numbers give users a basic idea of each Beast’s effectiveness. The NFTs feature visual stat bars on the card border so players can easily see the stats without having to look at the metadata.

MetaBeasts includes a deflationary model for their NFTs via upgrades. Similar to the upgrade system in Splinterlands, users merge multiple copies of the same Beast to create a new one of a higher tier. All Beasts start at Tier I and can level up to Tier III. Leveling up provides bonus stats and a fancier card border. And, of course, increased rarity! This feature guarantees that MetaBeasts will only get rarer over time, as NFTs are burned to make higher-tier Beasts.

Though we can’t actually inhabit our Avatar / Citizens in a 3D world yet, Mega World is moving in that direction. This latest release brings us the ability to see our Citizens in upgraded form, with more detailed looks. In addition, all Citizens now have a selection of traits. Mostly good, sometimes neutral, sometimes negative. These traits can be cosmetic, affecting the basic look of the Citizen. Or they can change how effective the character is at various game actions.

Citizen Traits

Every existing Citizen has been given a selection of Traits based on their generation. Gen A Citizens can have 10 traits, Gen B Citizens nine, and so on down the line. The Traits come in a wide variety, with some rarer than others. They are color coded based on rarity. Yellow for a negative trait, gray for common, blue for rare, pink for epic, and orange for legendary. The Traits each have their own effect, which can be seen by clicking on it. Some change the Citizen’s appearance, some affect productivity, and others alter quests or the Citizen’s stats.

Along with the updated Citizens comes a new breeding system as well, though it’s not active yet. Players pair Citizens of two different genders together in a Residential building. Then, with a payment of WORLD tokens and some time, a new Citizen will be created, inheriting its traits from the parents. There is also a small chance that the ‘child’ Citizen could end up with a rare or unique Trait. However, each succeeding generation has fewer maximum traits. This gives extra value to earlier generation Citizens as the more Trait slots the child has, the more chances for a special Trait to appear.

Profile Pictures and Citizen Appearance

The player can also choose any Citizen in their portfolio to create a profile picture. The player can turn the avatar as well as adjust the height and background of the photo and then save the image for use in a profile. It would be nice if this connected directly to the game and we could set our in-game profile picture with a mouse click. Hopefully, this functionality will come with a future update.

Citizens have base outfits, which can be affected by certain traits, such as Elegant or Fashionable. In a future update, players will be able to customize their Citizens’ clothing in Commercial buildings. For a fee, of course! The Mega World team also plans to introduce wearables. Some of which may be useful tools in-game. For example, an axe to cut trees.

What is Mega World?

Originally known as MegaCryptoPolis, Mega World has set their sights higher than the multi-player, city management game they began as. Players own, construct, and improve houses, offices, and factories. Citizens work jobs, and factories produce resources, creating a basic, interconnected economy. The team is currently remaking the city into a virtual world, complete with 3D avatars, quests, and player-owned apartments that can be decorated. The game uses an internal wallet for most transactions. Mega World is playable in a web browser, desktop, or mobile. The game is available on both Polygon/Ethereum, and the Tron networks.

They recently released phase one of their new economy and converted Citizens into Avatars as they build up to the full release of their virtual world.

For four weeks during the month of June, holders of Snoop Dogg Avatars have access to exclusive content in The Sandbox. Complete certain tasks and missions, and earn shares of one million mSAND prize pool (note: mSAND is the same as SAND token, just on the Polygon network)! Beginning on June 3rd, a new contest will be added weekly to the Sandbox contest page. For these contests, only those who own a Snoop Dogg Avatar can participate. Everyone who completes a mission will share in a 250,000 mSAND reward for that event.

For this first contest, players must equip their Doggie Avatar NFT and visit the alpha lobby to register their contest entry. Make sure that the in-game mission is marked as complete! They then ask that you tweet a screenshot of your Doggie avatar in-game. And that seems to be it for the first round. Pretty simple!

We don’t yet know the details about the other contests. But presumably, there will be special areas in Sandbox to visit for future missions. However, we do know the names for the upcoming contests — Rooftop a la mode, Meet at the Agora, and Club XYZ. These contests will begin on June 10th, 17th, and 24th, respectively.

At the end of each event, a snapshot will be taken to verify that you still own your Doggies. So if you buy an avatar just for this event, don’t resell it too quickly! The cheapest Doggie avatars are going for a little over 0.2 ETH.

Unlike some of the previous Sandbox events, there is no raffle involved. Everyone who completes the requirements will receive a portion of the rewards.

What is The Sandbox?

Built on the Ethereum blockchain (though in the process of migrating to Polygon), The Sandbox is a collection of gaming and social experiences. The Sandbox consists of customizable lands of varying sizes with voxel-based entities. Landowners build and customize their own experiences with block editing, hand-crafted assets, and a built-in scripting language. These virtual lands can become mini-games, adventures, virtual shops, a space for social gatherings, and whatever else can be imagined and built!

The Sandbox provides free tools for developers, gamers, and content creators. Creators can use VoxEdit to create voxel-based objects for use in-game. And with the Game Maker users can make all sorts of interactive experiences. The Sandbox continues to announce new partnerships on a regular basis and has already run two alpha tests with play to earn rewards!

MOBOX announces their plans for Avatars to inhabit their MoMoverse. And along with that, an airdrop to those with a significant amount of stake in MOBOX’s defi system.

Avatar Airdrop

The airdrop snapshot happens on April 5th 2022, at 8am UTC. Each address on the BNB chain with veMBOX staked to “Long”, receives up to three Avatar chests. veMBOX is basically a way of enhancing your APY when staking on the MOBOX platform. By agreeing to lock up MBOX tokens, you receive a bonus to the weight of your contribution to the staking pool. veMBOX doesnt actually exist as a token. The MBOX staked as veMBOX can’t be retrieved until the lockup period ends.

Unfortunately, this initial airdrop is not cheap. In order to receive an Avatar chest, you must have at least 18,000 veMBOX staked. How this translates to MBOX varies based on the length of the lockup period. But, on the longest period, three years, you receive a 15-1 return ratio for each MBOX. So 18,000 veMBOX would require staking 1200 MBOX for three years (or more MBOX for less time). At current prices that’s about a $3300 investment. And that’s just for one chest! Admittedly, the chests are free. And if you’re already locking up funds into the MBOX defi system then it’s a nice bonus. The returns on staking are still running up to 120%.

For the bigger investors, 32,001 to 90,000 veMBOX nets two Avatar chests, while those with over 90,000 receive three. The Avatar chests will be airdropped after the MOMOverse and the Avatar smart contract are launched. Avatar chests cannot be sold, though the Avatars can.

MOBOX Avatars

MOBOX Avatars are ERC-721 NFTs. Each address can hold as many asa they want. Avatars have 15 property attributes that are fixed when minting. This is much like the typical generative projects that are all over the blockchains these days. Each property comes in varying rarities, and each Avatar an overall rarity rating. Hopefully we’ll see some more details soon about the possible Avatar traits.

In addition, Avatars have eight special slots. These seem to be equipment slots — allowing your Avatar to wear clothing and hold items that display in-game.

Players will also have the option of stuffing their Avatar back into a chest for a fee in MBOX tokens. When the chest is opened, a new Avatar is minted! That could turn out to be a very interesting feature, depending on the cost.

MOBOX Avatars are built for use in the upcoming MOMOverse. Players will be able to purchase Avatar chests with MBOX token in the MOMOverse.

What is MOBOX?

MOBOX is a gaming platform running on the Binance Chain that includes some decentralized finance elements. Though it began as a defi system, the gaming side of Mobox is growing quickly. The site offers four games with play to earn elements, ChainZ Arena, MOland Defense, Block Brawler, and Token Master

Though obviously designed with mobile platforms in mind, the games can be played on desktop as well. They are all very casual, with rewards to the top players Most of the games provide opportunities for quicker advancement by spending MBOX tokens.

In addition to the games. Owners of MBOX tokens can stake them on the site for a steady return. Players can also enter lotteries for boxes that contain MOMOs, MEC tokens (used to upgrade MOMOs), and Gems (also used to upgrade MOMOs). MOMOs can be staked to earn even more MBOX. It’s a system that encourages feeding earnings back into it, but owners can cash out at any time. Tokens accumulate throughout the day.

Mobox recently announced their upcoming MOMOverse, which will bring an entirely new facet to their growing ecosystem.

The growing utility and ecosystem of NFT Worlds holds great potential. The NFT Worlds team has already provided a central login system, a utility token (WRLD), and an API to support utilizing WRLD as a payment system in-game. With the latest updates we have World staking and renting, as well as a new Avatar system with an upcoming mint.

NFT Worlds Avatars

NFT Worlds is releasing their own NFT Avatars. This set consists of 15,000 unique, playable characters. The team has reserved 10,000 for World holders, 1 each per World, with an additional 5,000 for public mint. Any Avatars un-minted from the whitelist sale will likely roll over to the public sale.

These Avatars are NFTs, can be equipped through the NFT Worlds launcher, and are playable in any NFT Worlds server. Future perks include exclusive content and reward opportunities. NFT Worlds will host their own marketplace for Avatars, but they are full NFTs and can be transferred and traded anywhere. Use of the Avatars in-game will be tied to your linked wallet. If you don’t own the corresponding NFT, you don’t get to use the Avatar.

Mint price and mint date have not yet been set.

But playable Avatars won’t stop there. The NFT Worlds team wants to expand this concept further and allow other projects to also create unique Avatars for the NFT Worlds system. In fact, one project is already first in line, The Gray Boys! Work has been ongoing for these Avatars for some time now. They will be the first ones available with the NFT Worlds Launcher even before the official NFT Worlds Avatars!

But it’s not hard to imagine the possibilities with bringing in other Avatar projects. Imagine a CryptoPunk or Bored Ape or Hasmask Avatar! Not to mention the uncountable number of other profile picture projects around, many of which would make very cool Avatars!

Also, the team plans to create wearable, cosmetic items (also NFTs) as well as a NFT Worlds marketplace allowing players to trade these items for WLRD tokens.

World Staking and Renting

Prior to the Avatars announcement, NFT Worlds released two new contracts, Renting and Staking. Any NFT Worlds owner now has the option of staking their World(s) into a smart contract and receiving daily WRLD tokens in return.

And the best part of staking, it only prevents the owner from selling their world. Staked worlds can still be built on and even rented out! However, though you can put your Worlds up for rent, the rental marketplace is not yet live, so no one can actually do any renting. Once the marketplace is live, Worlds can be rented and renters have full building and monetization rights on their rented World!

The contracts for both of these services have undergone independent audits by Certik.

What else is happening in NFT Worlds?

NFT Worlds has released an updated version of their own play to earn world. Called NFT Worlds Factions, it offers an in-game shop, land claiming and raiding, multiple servers, and $WRLD rewards for the top 10 factions. I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but it is on my to-do list! To get all the details, head over to their NFT Worlds Play Discord server. This server not only has channels for the NFT Worlds games, but also channels for everyone else building experiences on the NFT Worlds ecosystem!

And with the ever-present worry of scam projects and rug pulls, NFT Worlds introduced their Verified Builder system. Teams building on NFT Worlds who wish to be flagged as Verified Builders must submit their personal information and undergo an interview with the NFT Worlds team. Personal information will not be disclosed except in the case of legal cases. In return, Verified Projects receive a special badge and appear higher in the list of servers on the launcher. So far, about 50 projects have completed the process with another dozen pending verification! You can view the current list in this document.

The alpha for Mega World receives a fresh dose of hype with the latest announcement. The new economic system introduces the need for ‘tasks’ in order to complete production in player-owned buildings. Item and resource production is no longer just clicking a button and waiting. Building owners now need players to come and complete tasks as part of the production process! Only once all tasks have been completed will the items and resources be created.

Mega World New Economy

Let’s break that down a bit. Currently, in Mega World, building owners assign Citizens to their buildings who help with the quality and speed of production. When the alpha economy lands, those Citizens appointed to buildings become “Management”. Management still helps with the quality of the production, but they are no longer responsible for the production themselves.

Instead, production requires interaction from player Avatars, who complete tasks at the building. Tasks appear daily, and Avatars receive WORLD token as payment. Higher level buildings offer better payouts, but also require higher skill Avatars. Sometimes tasks may require resources, extra stamina, or WORLD tokens.

Buildings with tasks are marked on the map. Building owners can offer additional incentives to encourage quicker completion of tasks at their buildings. The game burns half of the bonus reward, and pays out the other half to the player. Once at least 50% of the tasks are complete, owners have the option of paying extra taxes and resources to speed up production.

The Avatars have to reach their job sites before they can work (remote work options are very limited in Mega World!) And moving around the map takes time, especially when walking. Running moves the Avatar faster, but also burns stamina. So this ties in with the recent transportation release. Players now have other options besides travel by foot. They can take buses or subways for a fee in WORLD tokens. Those Citizens who own cars can drive themselves, but there will still be a WORLD token payment for gas costs (no electric vehicles yet).

To bring some life back to Commercial buildings, Stamina, which is consumed by running and completing tasks, will be replenished for a fee at any Commercial building.

World University

Another addition with the alpha economy is the World University. While the basic game is free to play, the free Avatar only has the skills to complete the most basic tasks. To work on higher level tasks and earn more, a player needs a higher ranked Citizen. But some players dont have the desire or means to purchase their own Citizen. This is where the University comes into play. Citizen owners can offer their Citizens out for rent, in return for a portion of the WORLD earned through tasks.

This provides passive income for players with lots of Citizens, and offers a “work your way up” path for players. Play for free, do basic tasks, earn WORLD, rent a Citizen, do higher level tasks, earn more WORLD!

Overall, this is a huge change for Mega World. It will need a very active playerbase to keep the economy churning, especially with much of the map still undeveloped. Hopefully the potential for free, play to earn opportunities will bring in more players.

What is Mega World?

Mega World is a city simulation game currently building out a integrated virtual world. Players own land, produce resources, upgrade buildings, create bus stops, breed new citizens, and more. The virtual world is currently in demo mode. Alpha is expected sometime in 2022.

The game features numerous in-game resources and an in-game currency called the WORLD token. The WORLD token is the in-game currency for Mega World / Megacryptoplis 3D. Players earn WORLD by completing tasks. Players spend WORLD on transportation, tasks, restoring Stamina, building customization, creating new Citizens, and boosting task rewards, creating a usecase for owning WORLD.

Mega World also features an ERC-20 token called MEGA, which works with their defi / resource system.

Ben Nolan shared these plans for NFT avatars in Cryptovoxels in a vlog. These avatars will require a so-called VRM-file, often offered as a downloadable file to the NFT holder. Nolan wants to implement this new feature before the end of the year, but recognizes that this will come with some challenges. For example, the VRM model needs to be tailored to the skeleton model used in Cryptovoxels.

NFT avatars have been the biggest craze lately. In the case of Bored Ape Yacht Club there will be 3D characters on the roadmap. However, a wide variety of NFT projects already offer VRM models. Think about VOID, Fluf World, Meebits and the soon-to-be-released Clone X and Metakrew collections.

Using NFTs from other projects in your own project, is a form of interoperability. It allows users to own one asset, which then can then use in multiple locations. In a full open and interoperable metaverse, users can take their NFT avatar and go anywhere. That’s the type of interoperability that’s still lacking, but more projects are implementing such features. Think about for example NFT 2040 and WorldWideWeb3.

Down the road the team will airdrop wearables for Decentraland, matching the clothing of your Metakrew avatar. In addition the team will be building the lore of the Metakrew, and in addition dropping art in the process. In addition every Metakrew NFT will become a full VR character rig, allowing the owners to use these as a virtual representation in videos.

These avatars make you recognizable as a particular person in the metaverse, without revealing who you are in real life. Change identity? Then switch wallet, and thus you switch avatar, and therefore your identity will change.
