Avast matey! It’s time to start earning nautical themed character and weapon skins with Pirate Booty, the latest seasonal content for Mini-Royale! You can jump right into Mini-Royale, the browser-based FPS, and start playing, no NFTs required. Though there are certain perks that come with owning items from the latest season.

Mini-Royale is free to play — no purchase required. But advancing through the battle pass is helped tremendously by owning and staking an NFT hero from the current season. Also, there are a number of missions that require owning a hero or weapon skin from the latest season.

Seasons in Mini-Royale revolve around owning and minting character and weapon skins from the latest release. These are created from Shards, which can be acquired in-game from battle pass and mission rewards, or purchased via a ‘Pirate Booty Drop‘. In this drop, players buy boxes which contain a random selection and rarity of Shards. Gather enough Shards of the same rarity and same hero and you can combine them into a usable game item that can also be minted into an NFT! For those who want to skip the assembly part, Heroes are available for purchase from other players on Magic Eden.

What else is new in Season 5?

Mini-Royale has also added a PvE, Campaign mode, as a way to introduce new players to the game. The Campaign mode gives players certain objectives to achieve when playing. Completing these objectives earns Star points, which unlock new objectives and chapters. Along the way players also earn Orbs and Shards.

In addition, a new map hits the game servers. Called Paradisa, this is the first map that was designed by someone outside of the Faraway team. Expect to see more maps in the near future as Mini-Royale plans to open up map-making to everyone!

Recently, Mini-Royale announced their creator program. This program allows players to create custom, 3D skins for the game and sell them to other players. A few weeks ago they made another creator based announcement. This time about maps. Partnering with a company called Hiber, Mini-Royale wants users to create their own maps with the Hiber 3D Editory and import them into the game. The Hiber3D editor already comes loaded with hundreds of objects and textures. It features a drag and drop building system, with the goal of making map creation accessible for everyone.

Faraway is working with Hiber to create a seamless import system that will allow players to create maps specifically for Mini Royale. Expect this functionality to become available sometime soon!

What is Mini-Royale?

Mini-Royale is a web-based FPS running on the Solana blockchain created by a company called Faraway. It is free to play, though owners of Premium NFTs receive bonus points towards their Battle Pass ranking with every match. The game runs in a web browser and supports both random, and public games, as well as private matches.

Mini-Royale offers a few different game modes such as Team Deathmatch, Battle Royale, and Capture the Flag. Team size maxes out at five players, though you can also play with fewer. PvP matches are generally quick and action-packed. Mini-Royale includes leaderboards and clan (guild) competitions.

Players earn character experience, gain battle pass points, and level up their items by playing the game. Along the way, they also earn special weapons and avatar skins. Some of these can be minted to the blockchain as NFTs once they’ve been leveled up. Mini-Royale currently only accepts the Phantom wallet for wallet connections. The team continually works on improving the gameplay as well as expanding and upgrading the game visuals and maps.

Epic Games continues to ramp up their presence in the blockchain scene. After recently adding Gods Unchained to their distribution platform, they now also host My Pet Hooligan on the Epic Games store! This is a positive sign for both My Pet Hooligan and web3 gaming in general!

And this addition is just in time as My Pet Hooligan prepares to launch the next phase of their alpha testing. Players can gain access to the alpha by owning either a Hooligan or a Zuckbot (Zuckbots are the cheaper choice) NFT. The team says you can expect to see download keys in your mailbox today, June 29th, at 4pm PST which will provide access to ‘Alpha 2.0 Turbo’!

You can also sign up for beta access on the My Pet Hooligan website. The team plans to give away five custom baseball jerseys through a raffle for everyone that signs up for early access on their website.

What is My Pet Hooligan?

Sort of a GTA occupied by rabbits with attitude, My Pet Hooligan is a third-person, shoot-em-up style game. MPH offers a number of different game modes for players, including Team Death Match, Battle Royale, and even a social, hangout area. The lore behind the game speaks of the rabbits freeing themselves from the clutches of Meta Zuckbot, an evil overlord and establishing a new, more anarchic world. With destructible, city-based environments, My Pet Hooligan promises plenty of carnage and mayhem for its players!

The game will offer free to play options, but during the current alpha players need to own a My Pet Hooligan NFT to join. This can be either a Hooligan or a Zuckbot.

The primary Hooligan NFT collection consists of 8,888 rabbits with attitude, living on the Ethereum blockchain. Owning one of these playable NFTs also opens up early access to releases. But like many web3 projects, My Pet Hooligan isn’t content to just stay in one lane. They are also creating animated shorts, real life merchandise, and even offer ‘Hooligram’, an app that lets you animate your Hooligan and even have it imitate your facial expressions! This is built to feed into potential user created content with their own Hooligans, with owners retaining IP rights for their NFTs. In addition, they offer 3d models of all of the Hooligans for creators to use.

Hooligan Holders also passively earn s-karrots, a precursor to Karrots, the official game currency.

While some games are closing down, others are just getting started. Grit, the western-themed, battle royale, FPS from Gala Games goes live, giving players a chance to shoot and earn across a wild west town and the surrounding landscape!

Grit features NFTs in the form of Gunslingers. Gunslingers are a set of 10,000 unique, generative characters to use in the game. Apparently using a Gunslinger NFT in-game will provide reward bonuses. But we’re still waiting for some sort of litepaper or official documentation from Grit. Gunslingers are available on secondary markets or on the Gala Games store.

Grit won’t have their own token, instead they will use GALA token for their game rewards. And their reward system will be familiar to many. Players earn Victory Points for completing quests and placing in the top three in matches. At the end of every day, players receive tokens based on the size of the reward pool and their percentage of overall Victory Points earned that day.

Note: GALA rewards are currently paused while the team works on their reward structure.

Players can also purchase a Battle Pass to earn other in-game rewards such as various usable and cosmetic items. And presumably we’ll also see leaderboards and tournaments in the near future as well.

Epic Games

Grit is the first launch of a web3 game on the Epic Games Store. Epic Games is a Steam-like, game distribution service with over 190 million users! This is a big step forward for the integration of the web2 and the web3 worlds. We’ll see if Grit can take advantage of their exposure to this large playerbase.

This could turn into a big win for Epic Games as well, since Steam has shown some disdain for blockchain gaming, opening up opportunities for other game platforms to take over the web3 space.

While we still wait to return to the planet of Dolos, Life Beyond has given us The Hub, a centralized social and informational space. Now, a new feature arrives in The Hub called Solo Combat Trials.

Solo Combat Trials

Solo Combat Trials see players face off against obstacles and enemies in a generated simulation. The challenges become increasingly difficult as players progress farther into the experience. The Solo Combat Trials are open to everyone, though holders of the Founders NFTs receive early access. Founders can already try their hand at the Trials, while everyone else can access the new challenge starting on May 29th, at 11am CET.

And though the Life Beyond hasn’t said anything about prizes for participating in the Solo Combat Trials, they are including a leaderboard. Every time a player completes a trial run, they will be scored based on certain criteria specific to the level they were on. So presumably, there could be some future contests with prizes for the top Combat Trials participants — maybe even hosted by the players!

There are apparently other modules being worked on for the simulator. Each with a different challenge or experience. It’s also easy to see how these simulation rooms would serve as a great training ground for new players — or even experienced players who want to try out different weapons and equipment!

What is Life Beyond?

Life Beyond is a free-to-play, play-and-earn, FPS-style MMORPG with a third-person view. In Life Beyond, players are citizens of the Dolos Planet, an alien world around a distant star. Shrapnel unveils their latest web feature, Callsigns. Callsigns are unique identifiers in Shrapnel that cannot be duplicated. Each one costs 250 SHRAP tokens and players can mint multiple Signs.

Aside from the bragging rights of being the only one in-game with the name Elon Tusk (for example), owning a Callsign also provides a number of other benefits. Players can use their Callsign when designing Insignias and on their Player Profile. They will also receive a special player profile background pack, an airdrop of two weapon skins, and access to exclusive events. And perhaps best of all, Callsigns are fully tradable on the Shrapnel marketplace (soon).

Shrapnel Insignia Contest

Callsigns follow the other recent feature release, Insignia creation. Creating Insignias is free of charge, though you do need to hold an Operator NFT to access the tool.

And though the number of basic options are somewhat limited, the ability to resize, color, rotate, and move everything in layers opens up a lot of creative options. In fact, some folks have created some amazing works with the Insignia system! As user generated content is an important part of Shrapnel, this Insignia tool will likely factor into the game in the future. And I can already see a potential market for those with the skill and the eye to make incredible images like these!

Shrapnel is also currently holding an Insignia contest, with several different categories. Entries close on May 24th though, so get your creations submitted quickly! Entries will need to be submitted via their Discord chat.

What is Shrapnel?

Shrapnel is a mission-based, first person shooter where players join the warzone as operators for one of several teams entrusted with collecting and extracting valuable resources. But other operators are competing for the same resources, creating a high-stakes atmosphere that encourages risk-taking and rewards player skill.

Players equip their operators with the appropriate gear that suits their playstyle. Equipment (in the form of NFTs) is dropped when a player dies and can be looted by other players. In addition, players can gather the mysterious Compound Sigma. They must then fight their way to one of extraction spots and survive long enough to escape and claim their loot!

Shrapnel is built around player created content. This takes the form of tournaments, as well as player crafted NFTs. Players can even design their own unique vanity items to sell to other players! They will have land ownership and want to expand creation opportunities to player created maps and map items as well! Shrapnel has its own token, SHRAP. Players will be able to stake SHRAP to maps they like, sharing in the rewards from games played on that map. Meanwhile, unpopular maps will find themselves pushed down to lower reward tiers. This encourages creators to refine and improve their work in order to remain popular.

Shrapnel also plans to build a community hub, DAO governance, and a reputation system! Operators the main NFTs for the game, are currently available on the secondary markets.

Another weekend playtest from MetalCore! Officially dubbed Alpha 2.5, this playtest kicks off on May 26th, 9pm ET, and runs until Monday, May 29th, 3pm ET.

The latest alpha build for MetalCore features Faction Pledging as well as PvE servers. Faction Pledging allows players to choose which side they wish to fight for. And with the initial introduction of PvE in their last playtest, MetalCore is now ready to make it a more permanent feature, allowing players enter matches where they have to work together to defeat the AI foes.

This alpha includes a special bounty hunter event. Players earn points for every player kill they get. At the end of the playtest, the top five players on the leaderboard earn rewards. To participate, players will need to register with MetalCore before the event starts.

The winner of this bounty contest receives some MetalCore swag, a Shiva statue, plus a Ledger Nano S. Second and third places receive the swag pack and the Nano, while fourth and fifth place players win an official sticker pack.

What is MetalCore?

MetalCore is a web3-enabled game that is a cross between Planetside and Battlefield. It’s a first-person/third-person, sci-fi-themed FPS with numerous vehicles, infantry types, and loadouts. The game features instanced, faction combat, with some battles supporting up to 100 players per side! MetalCore includes vehicle and infantry combat, with a wide variety of combat styles and support options to choose from. Coordination with your teammates and faction members will be important.

During the Faction battles, each side tries to take and control various tactical points around the map while attempting to destroy the enemy base. Tactical points provide in-game advantages for the controlling faction. Each player has a limited number of respawns per battle. Once those respawns run out, that player may no longer play in that battle, but other players can take their place.

MetalCore includes both PvE and PvP zones. Players earn FAB tokens while playing the game. This token will be used for crafting and upgrades. Players craft Vehicles in Garages, and can upgrade and customize them with special skins and decals. MetalCore will also support Baronies, or guilds.

MetalCore will include free-to-play options. They are also implementing a Content Creator’s program with rewards for streamers and video creators. The game is currently in closed alpha testing.

The Life Beyond economy rests on three principles — gaming activity on a side-chain, a custodial wallet for frictionless, in-game, transactions, and a dual-currency system.

Like many other web3 projects these days, Life Beyond is building with an eye towards making their game frictionless to play, and bringing in new players from the web2 world. Part of effort includes offering a gaming experience that has no requirements for maintaining a personal wallet, or interacting directly with the blockchain. This will be accomplished by hosting most of the game activities on a side-chain, and providing an in-game, custodial wallet for all players.

Players can participate in Life Beyond, without every having to worry about on-chain tokens and NFTs if they want.

Life Beyond Tokenomics

Life Beyond will feature a two token system. These tokens are DOLS and an unnamed token that is currently referred to as FT (Fungible Token). DOLS will be an in-game currency only. It can be exchanged for FT in-game, but will never exist anywhere else. Meanwhile, the other token (FT), will be transferrable between the game’s custodial wallet, and traditional wallets on the mainchain via a bridge.

Most of the basic game functions will be kept to the sidechain and use DOLS as the currency. This includes player progression, building infrastructure, purchases on the in-game markets, and trading goods and services between players.

The FT token will be used for any NFT interactions such as repairing NFT items, crafting, minting, decorations, pets, etc. They will offer various items on their own marketplace, payable in FT. This can include items such as Land plots, Mystery Boxes, and other goodies. FT will also be used for staking. FT token staking can increase DOL emissions from land ownership, and will offer access to exclusive items in-game. And finally, FT will also serve as a governance token, letting players vote on decisions regarding the future of Life Beyond.

The Hub

Though their alpha playtest closed some time ago, Life Beyond has opened up ‘The Hub’. The Hub is a social space for players to interact and show off their characters, clothing, and equipment. This will be the central space for the main game and it already includes a couple of features. One is the Founder’s Terminal – a tribute plaque with the names of the first 500 Founders to join Life Beyond. The Hub also includes a terminal, with slides and information about the flora and fauna — information that players discovered during the alpha playtests and which they can now peruse at their leisure!

There aren’t many clothing options yet. But players with the Agent Zero Jackets can wear those on their avatars in The Hub. Players can download The Hub here.

Superior actually launched an early access version on Steam back in November of 2022. And while they have expanded, updated, and bugfixed their game quite a bit since then, the Steam version was still a basic web2 style game. It didn’t include NFTs or the type of rewards system that we expect with web3 gaming. That all changes with a two week playtest that started on May 15th and runs through May 30th!

This playtest will be via the Gala Games launcher. This connects players to the game via the blockchain, and lets them use their NFTs when playing. But you won’t need an NFT to play. Anyone with a Gala Games account can join in on the fun!

There will be a leaderboard competition from May 22nd though May 29th. The top 50 players receive an Uncommon Murmur or Nomad character, while the top 25% of the players receive a new, NFT backpack!

The Future of Superior

Both the web3 and web3 versions will be able to play in the same games together. But, when Superior moves onto the GYRI network (AKA the Gala Games blockchain), there will a number of benefits to playing the web3 version.

First off, there will be Challenge Rewards. Players will sometimes find Golden Challenge Keys. These Keys provide access to a special, fixed-seed, map run. Players use their Keys to join the run and compete for top spots on the leaderboard. Players earn points based on kills and the amount of time it took to complete the level. This will be a weekly event, with the top 25% of the players on the leaderboard earning points, which can then be redeemed for GALA tokens based on the size of a reward pool.

Also arriving soon is loot-based character customization. Players can find loot during runs and equip them, or even mint them as NFTs. And since Superior will run in seasons, many of these cosmetics will be available for one season only!

What is Superior?

Superior is a co-op FPS / RPG that see players hunting down mutated superheroes and taking powers from defeated enemies to grow stronger. The game is a mission-based, cooperative, PvE experience with an evolving storyline. Missions are dynamically generated to provide varying experiences. As players progress through the missions, then have chances to upgrade their weapons and acquire various powers to help them in their quest. The farther they get, the more powerful they become, but at the same time, the challenges increase in difficulty.

When all players in a group die during a mission, the story ends, and their progress is reset. However, they do get to keep any experience acquired along the way, and use that for permanent boosts to their Characters. Players can also earn extra experience through ‘Gigs’, or daily quests. These are basic things such as kill a number of enemies, or repair a certain amount of armor.

Each Character has their own skill tree and players have a number of customizations to choose from, both when starting a mission, and when leveling up. At the start of a new story, players get to pick an initial power for that game. This, coupled with varying weapons and a number of skill options makes for a pretty wide starting base. And since each Character also customizes further as they progress through the story, Superior can be a different playthrough each time.

Superior features Weapon and Character NFTs. The game offers free Characters to play, though players who use a NFT character level up more quickly. Characters’ level caps are based on their rarity, but the caps can be raised via an ‘Infamy system’. Character NFTs keep their Infamy score, even when changing hands.

It’s the time for modders in Mini-Royale as they open up a new create and earn system. This system allows users to create custom skins for the game’s characters and weapons, and receive a percentage of the sales income!

Getting paid as a modder is not always easy in the world of regular gaming. But web3 gaming is breaking those old molds in many ways. And one of them is the monetization of user created content. No longer do modders need to set up a Patreon and ask for donations. Now they can easily receive a rightful portion of the sales made with their creations!

Faraway, the parent company of the Mini-Royale game, opens up the first phase of their Creator system. This system will expand over time, but for now, creations are limited to textures (skins) for existing Season 4 characters and weapons from Mini-Royale.

 The creator system is open to everyone. Anyone can download the character pack, create their own textures, and submit them for acceptance. Creators who have their content accepted will receive 50% of the SOL spent for their items!

Creators can also apply to become a Sponsored Creator once they have five approved skins in the marketplace. Sponsored Creators can get their creations listed on the official Faraway Marketplace (coming soon) for greater exposure. And they can also open their own, personalized Storefront and receive 90% of the sales made there! In addition, Sponsored Creators receive a guaranteed income of $250 USDC each month! However, they can’t just sit back and count their free money. Sponsored Creators must maintain an output of at least 10 approved creations every month.

Where do I find these custom skins?

For now these custom skins are only available via the in-game character page. Select a Season 4 item in your inventory, and at the bottom will be the various options available.

Undead Blocks is no longer the only zombie shooter in web3 gaming. They are joined by R3V3NGE, which is now in open beta and free to play for everyone! You can download the game via the Elixir launcher.

Matches in R3V3NGE are set in a claustrophobic, futuristic tunnel system, making the game environment quite a bit different from Undead Blocks. But otherwise, the gameplay is almost exactly the same. Survive as long as you can against increasingly difficult waves of zombies, upgrading weapons and earning tokens along the way. Though R3V3NGE plans to build out many different game modes such as team deathmatch and battle royale, only the zombie survival mode is available at the moment.

There are currently Lootbox NFTs available for the game, though they can’t be opened yet. R3V3NGE also recently held a sale for limited edition shotguns that sold out. But the mint for their Avatar NFTs hasn’t happened yet, so you’re not too late to get in on the ground floor of this game.

Avatars are the big boy NFTs for R3V3NGE. Avatars will receive a token airdrop, whitelist to all future mints, and even revenues from the game! You can get whitelisted to the Avatar mint simply by holding a Lootbox NFT, which are currently going for less than $1!

What is R3V3NGE?

R3V3NGE is a free to play, zombie shooter game, built on Unreal Engine 5, that includes several game modes. Set in a future where humans have been ravaged by a virus and something has gone terribly wrong with an AI originally designed to help humanity. Players venture into the tunnels and try to kill as many zombies as they can without dying.

R3V3NGE runs on the Polygon network and has their own game token called ZION. Players earn tokens by killing zombies, and then can use those tokens in-game to purchase new weapons. In addition to weapons and skins, players can also equip Power NFTs, which grant special abilities.

R3V3NGE will include a player-run DAO system — allowing players to guide game game development and even receive a share of the game profits! The team plans to host regular DAO votes to let players decide the future of the game.
