Top play-to-earn games by active users

Another week went by and the top play-to-earn games remain the same. Apart from Alien Worlds which is seeing a 22% growth in weekly active users, all the other top projects’ user base remain more or less similar to last week.

Please note that we do not have the exact numbers for Gameta this week as dappRadar is not tracking data for the project at the moment. But from other sources, the weekly active users’ number is around 500k.

Top 10 NFT collections

We are seeing some excitement in the NFT community, but the trading volume is still pretty low compared to last year’s craze. The recent Ethereum pump is probably not helping smaller collections. We are seeing many projects struggling to mint out, even with some hype behind them.

It is great to see that the most traded collection is Gods Unchained, proving, once again, that gaming is a leading factor for NFT adoption.

Gameta is still at the top and the casual gaming ecosystem continues to grow and attracted almost 600,000 active players in the past week. Alien Worlds, wich recently introduced its DAO-based governance model is hanging on to its spot in second place, followed closely by Splinterlands. Axie Infinity on the other hand is losing steam again, despite the recent Raylight release, a mini-game for land owners.

As for the gaming rankings, the NFT market is still pretty quiet. No big change in trading volume or in the rankings. Apart from some marginal projects pumping, NFT investors seem pretty cautious at the moment.

No big surprises this week, Gameta and its collection of mini-games is still topping the charts. Trickshot blitz is making a nice move up and ends up in fourth place this week, while Solitaire Blitz, the other Joyride hit just fell out of the top 10 and ends up in thirteenth place. Two newcomers in the top this week, Tiny Wolrd on the BNB Chain and Planet IX on the Polygon network. Axie Infinity is just hanging in there, and it doesn’t seem that the recent launch of Raylights, their land mini-game is enough to bring back the players the game lost over the past year.

This week’s market data doesn’t look very good. Trading volumes are still dropping for most collections and floor prices are still dropping except for the well-established blue chips that re BAYC or Crypto Punks. Azuki is taking a nice comeback in the top 10 collections with a trading volume up buy 132%.

For the third week in a row, the rankings remain mostly the same. Gameta is still topping the chart, followed by the OGs of web3 gaming Alien Worlds and Splinterlands. Axie Infinity is still in the top 10, but the casual, yet competitive mobile games, are not going away.

The NFT market is still not showing any sign of recovery. The good news for web3 gaming fans is to see Gods Unchained keeping a significant trading volume while the overall market seems to keep slowing down week after week.

The top 10 remains almost unchanged from last week. Gameta is still holding the top spot by quite a margin. Solitaire Blitz is seeing a significant decrease in active players and Axie Infinity seems to struggle to pass the 100k bar.

Top 10 NFT collections

The NFT trading volume for the biggest collection seems to remain pretty stable. The Rengga collection is still trending up and the QQL mint passes seem to be in high demand. QQL is a collaboration between Tyler Hobbs and Dandelion Wist Mane. The collection itself is a generative art experiment. The pass gives the right to generate and mint a unique NFT.

But before going deeper into the game mechanics and how you can join the early access version of the game, let’s have a look at the freshly released trailer to get you hyped about this release.

Dodgeball Arena, the first PvP Mouse Haunt Release

Following their planned release cycle, the Mouse Haunt team is ready to release its first PvP game. Until now, Mouse NFT holders only had the option to send their Mouse Heroes looting and farming $MHT tokens in the idle game Lock and Loot.

This release marks the first step towards a more engaging and fun gaming experience. Dodgeball Arena is a free-to-play competitive game made in Unreal 5. The game is designed as a 3v3 arena and the combats last 6 to 8 minutes. The play-to-earn mechanics will be introduced at a later stage and will be centered around competition.

The objective of the game is simple: kill every enemy Mouse Heroes! When a mouse is killed, its ghost continues to live and can use objects from the arena to continue inflicting damage on its enemies.

The game lobby is where players will wait for everyone to join the game and practice their shooting skills on each other before entering the arena. Once in the arena, you will have to fetch the cannonballs spawning on the map to throw them at your enemy or to pass it to your teammate. You will have to use objects on the map or hide to protect yourself from incoming cannonballs. If you are hit by a cannonball or by an object thrown by a ghost, you will lose shield. Once your shield is depleted, your character will be stunned for a brief period.

The game can be played in 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3 matches. The team told us that the sweet spot is 2v2 matches. Unfortunately, we did not have the chance to try it yet, we will have to wait a few more days to give it a go.

How to get early access?

The first thing to do is to head over to MouseHaunt.com and register an account there. Then, from October 4th, you will be able to download the early release of the game (PC only for now, but Mac and mobile builds should follow). In order to access the gameplay, you will have to join the Discord server in order to receive a password. We do not know if the number of players will be limited, but from the info we got from the team, it shouldn’t be too hard to get access.

The Mouse Haunt release schedule

The next items on the short-term roadmap are the project’s marketing effort expansion and the release of Dodgeball arena on iOS and Android devices. The overall Mouse Haunt release roadmap is shown in the image below. There are no set dates for each release, but until now, we have seen a dedicated team that keeps delivering regular updates on the previously released versions. Let’s hope that Dodgeball Arena will be fun to play and that play-to-earn mechanics will be added while we wait for the final game, Castle Heist.

What is Mouse Haunt?

The Mouse Haunt team promises to offer an innovative play-to-earn experience where the fun comes as the first reward. And from the concept to the first gameplay previews we have seen, it seems like that is what the Isoforce Games team is going to deliver. The game itself has been in development for quite some time. A first preview was presented at DreamHack Atlanta in 2018. Since then, the game evolved to become an NFT-based play-to-earn game and is now being developed on the Unreal Engine 5.

Mouse Haunt is an isometric multiplayer action-strategy game. Players will play in two different teams: Mouse Heroes and Ghosts. Then the goal is rather simple: The Mice want cheese and the Ghosts are trying to prevent them to get their paws on it. As simple as that, but players will have to use many tricks to achieve their goal, and that’s where the fun begins!

Ghosts are able to control the environment by throwing chairs, making a bookcase fall over an unsuspecting mouse, or even blasting explosives! But wait, there is another twist: Once a mouse dies, it will become a ghost and will need to adapt its strategy to continue scoring points.

The play-to-earn mechanics for the different game modes are not all known yet, but you can read more about the game economy and the different tokens and NFTs in the whitepaper.

As we see week after week for the last couple of months, the casual gaming platforms and mobile projects keep creeping up the charts and seem to be able to hold their player base. Gameta is even seeing a 38% increase while most other projects are seeing slight declines. The only exceptions are Benji Bananas, a mobile game part of the Animoca Brands ecosystem, and Arc8. Both of these projects are running special events which can explain the rise in numbers.

It seems that we are finally seeing a little uptrend in NFT trading volume this week. The main blue-chip collections remain unchanged, but it is interesting to see Gods Unchained keeping up with a large trading volume. The newcomer this week is the Hedz collection by Matt Furie, the creator of Pepe the Frog. The collection is a set of 1,000 images, all hand-drawn and unique.

For this third alpha season, The Sandbox is featuring over 100 experiences, with special quests and rewards up for grabs all along.

But for some avatar owners, more rewards and experiences are available. The selected collections are: Snoop Dogs “Doggies” Avatar, Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), Clone X x Takashi Murakami, Steve Aoki, People of Crypto, World of Women, and World of Women Galaxy. Those avatar holders are given exclusive access to each of the ‘seven experiences’ one week before it opens to the public. They will be given $SAND (in-game token) rewards once they complete the quest.

Rewards for avatar holders

Note that multiple avatars of the same collection won’t increase rewards. But, the more collections you have, the greater your chance to win $SAND during the special events. Here are the details for each collection. Each holder has to complete at least one quest in the corresponding experience to get the rewards. All events start at 1 pm UTC.

It is nice to see that the rewards for these collections are pretty similar, even if a Bored Ape is way more expensive than a People of Crypto Avatar.

In addition to these special event rewards, avatar owners can also get up to 60 $SAND tokens in rewards if they get 100 XP points by completing quests all along alpha season 3. There are also extra rewards for other Sandbox asset holders (up to 30 $SAND) and land owners (up to 160 $SAND).

What is the Sandbox?

The Sandbox is a decentralized virtual gaming platform where users can conceptualize, virtually materialize, and monetize digital assets from play-to-earn games or their gaming creations. 

The Sandbox consists of thousands of plots in a variety of sizes. Within each plot lies the unique creation of the plot owner. This could be a game, a social hub, or whatever else can be imagined and built. Sandbox is voxel-based, giving it a Minecraft feel. Assets inside of each experience are individual voxel objects, which can be imported from external editors.

Companies, projects, and creators like The Walking Dead, Steve Aoki, Sueco, Warner Music, Care Bears, Smurfs, Atari, Snoop Dogg, and several others have partnered with The Sandbox to launch game jams and contests to create new experiences for play-to-earn gamers.

Gameta is still on the top of the chart, and by quite a stretch. What could be worrisome is that we are seeing a decline in the player base for almost all of the top projects. Players might be flocking to other games, spreading the player base while the space is still struggling to attract more users from traditional gaming. Hopefully, we will see this trend reverse with the upcoming AAA releases planned for the end of the year. A crypto market pump might also be helpful to attract players, but that might take some time given the current economic conditions. Anyway, now is still a great time to test new games, and farm tokens and NFTs while having fun.

With trading volumes still trailing down, the NFT market is still trying to find its way. The RENGA collection by the artist Dirty Robot seems to be the hype trade of the week. We also notice the comeback of Doodles with their v4 collection and Azuki with a nice spike in trading volume.

We were curious to see if Gameta would hold the top spot that it claimed last week. Not only does it hold its spot, but the casual gaming platform recently launched on the BNB chain is also acquiring even more players this week with a 14% increase. The casual and mobile gaming trend that we have seen growing over the past few years seems to continue. Benji Bananas, is climbing back up with the recent announcement of their new rewards season. Let’s keep an eye on those and see if legacy projects like Axie Infinity, Alien Worlds and Splinterlands can manage a comeback.
