How to Play the Pre-Alpha of Mist?

1. Go to their official website
2. Click on “Download for Windows” or “Download for MAC” depending on your platform
3. Download the file
4. Run the .exe file which will install the launcher
5. Open the launcher
6. Click on “Download game”
7. Click on “Continue playing”

This will take you to the character creation menu where you will be able to create your first character, chose its race, and if you own any class NFTs, play as a specific class. Those who do not own any class NFTs will have to stick with the Adventurer class which is a good all-around hero, but is not specialized in anything.

What is Mist?

Mist is a Web3 MMORPG on the BNB Smart Chain that will bring all World of Warcraft fans a feeling of being at home. There are quests, different monsters to slay, bosses, and dungeons for players to explore. Basically, everything that there is in a traditional MMORPG.

The game already includes different classes but, in order to play as a witch hunter or bard, for example, players must own those classes’ specific NFTs. Nevertheless, players find an NFT class as a drop if they are extremely lucky, while playing as the free class, the Adventurer.

The game also used the $MIST token, capped at 1 billion, which will be the currency of the ecosystem. In other MMORPGs there is the in-game currency gold usually, in Mist there is the $MIST token.

Pre-Alpha Gameplay

In the pre-alpha there is still not that much to do. It is possible to create a character, slay some monsters, go through a quest line and equip different gear. But besides this it is still too empty. There are also some bugs. I was already expecting bugs and lack of content since pre-alphas just have the purpose of testing out some game features and giving the community a glimpse of what the final product will look like.

What I really liked was its WoW-like graphics and background music. Personally, I got bored but I think the team now has the foundation to build a great MMORPG.

How to Play?

Unfortunately, Whisper of Soul can not be played at this moment. The game was open for Elixir partners for just a weekend. Players will have to wait until the team finishes the new version to be able to jump into it and chop some heads off in this gruesome RPG.

Nevertheless, if you want to get ready for the upcoming version I recommend that you install Elixir games, the web3 gaming platform from which players will be able to access Whisper of Soul.

According to the team, the new version should be ready around Q2 of 2023 and players can count on new features like:

• New Character Creator
• Hero Skill System
• New Inventory
• New Targeting System
• Skill Editing Interface

What is Whisper of Soul?

Whisper of Soul is a Dark Souls-like action RPG and in the future, a Battle Royale. Players start by creating a character that can belong to one of four races – Human, Orc, Elf, and Dwarf. After that, players can join a match. Now there is only 1v1 and Deathmatch, but the team is already working on a Battle Royale game mode.

In 1v1 the map is smaller and there is only one small arena for two players to fight for glory. In Deathmatch, the map was more extensive and it took some time beforeI found a player.

Attack animations are still a bit clunky, graphics need polishing, and the content is quite limited. But I was already expecting all of this since this is just an Alpha and not the full game. Even so, I believe they now have the foundation to build a great and enjoyable game.

Whisper of Soul Economy

Whisper of Soul, is a Solana project, and will have NFTs and two tokens — $WOS and $SOUL. NFTs will exist as skins and weapons. But, unlike skins in other games, they boost a player’s warrior stats depending on its rarity which can be Common, Rare, Exotic, Epic, or Legendary.

The rarity also affects the speed at which characters recover in the inn. If a character is fatigued his stats will be negatively affected. The first NFT Skins sale will start at 1 $SOL on Magic Eden. When it comes to weapon NFTs they will fall into the exact same rarities and, like skins, they will also have an impact on character stats.

All players can get NFTs of a higher rarity by fusing NFTs of a lower rarity. As an example, Common axes can be combined to create a Rare Axe,

The team will launch the $WOS token, capped at 1,3 billion, which can be used for buying NFTs, renting NFTs, staking. WOS will also be the governance token.

And, on its dual-token economy, the uncapped $SOUL token will be used to evolve equipment at the forge, upgrade characters. It can also be exchanged for WOS tokens. To get $SOUL while playing the game, players need a Soul Gatherer.

The Beacon is the latest hit among the retro Web3 games. It belongs to the TreasureDAO ecosystem that includes other Web3 Games like Tales of Elleria and Knights of the Ether. In this top-down RPG, players must adventure into dark dungeons filled with gruesome monsters and survive all the dangers. Dungeons are randomized so no instance will feel the same. By slaying all the monsters and surviving their traps players earn loot.

Even though this is an RPG, it is entirely different than other games of the same genre. Characters can be upgraded during a run, but, these upgrades do not carry over after the run is complete! This makes The Beacon entirely skill-based. Also, available upgrades on each instance will be randomized increasing the replayability of the game.

Fast reflexes and good timing are vital to ensure success in the game. Players will often feel overwhelmed by the number of dangers that pop up every second in an instance. Skeletons jumping at the character, arrows crossing the screen, traps, and explosions are just some examples of occurrences that may happen, sometimes all at the same time! The Beacon is not for the faint of heart!

Game Modes

The Beacon will have three game modes. Single-player PvE, co-op PvE, and MMO-like social gameplay. I got a bit disappointed because there is no PvP mentioned so far. Hopefully, the team will develop it at a later stage.

In PvE players go into a dungeon, slay the monsters, kill the boss and grab all the loot. The difference is that in Single-Player PvE players go alone and in co-op they form a party. When it comes to the social game mode, there is a tavern where players can meet and virtually hang out.

Is The Beacon a Paid to Play Game?

Not at all. The Beacon is a free-to-play game that will be available for desktop and browser. Nevertheless, players who own NFT characters will have certain advantages in the ecosystem. There will be three types of players. F2P players, paid players, and blessed players.

F2P players as the name suggests are those who do not invest any money in the ecosystem. They will be able to earn non-NFT cosmetics and some tokens. This is for those who just want to play the game and do not care about earning.

Paid players are those who own a founding character. They will have access to all F2P players with a few extras like being able to earn NFT cosmetics, more rewards, and they also start with a set of character cosmetics.

Then, Blessed players are those who own a founding character and a pet and they will access everything paid players have with more extras. These extras include early access to the versions of The Beacon and higher rewards. Pets can be purchased from the secondary market, and founding characters will start being traded on January 30th. There are only 4096 pets while Founding characters have no limit.

Every player will always get 1 character and 1 house. The difference in housing is that Paid and Blessed players start with NFT cosmetics and F2P players do not.

Last Thoughts on The Beacon

The Beacon seems like an amusing game for its genre. Unfortunately, I did not play it but I liked what I saw in a few videos. It looks like a really dynamic and fast-paced game. The graphics are old school and bring me some nostalgic feelings from when I used to play games on the PlayStation X. If you have played Tollan Worlds it has the same style and vibe.

If you are into retro RPGs then I definitely recommend it. When it comes to “play-and-earn” it is too soon to talk about its tokenomics and ecosystem sustainability, so what I can tell you is only invest what you can afford to lose and always do your own research. That is correct! Oath of Peak is finally available. OGs already started before playing it and now it is time for the whole community to join. Oath of Peak is a Mobile MMORPG with features typical of games that fall into this genre, like auto-play.

The game interacts with the Polygon Blockchain, has NFTs, and will have a crypto token in the future. The project reminds me of Ninokuni: Cross Worlds honestly. The typical mobile MMORPG with cartoonish graphics.

When it comes to its graphics they are beautiful. Players will feel like they are in a world of fantasy for their whole time in the Omnispirit Realm, the world of Oath of Peak. The special effects are divine at least, and they feel like they were pulled from an animé series. The gameplay is fast-paced as was to be expected and players will have the typical mobile auto-do-everything features.

Oath of Peak Economy

As a Web3 game, Oath of Peak has a dual-token economy and NFTs.

Starting with the NFTs, these exist as spirit beasts and users can mint them on their official website. They can be used as pets to aid players in battle in-game, can also be staked to earn shells, and can be used to breed. To breed players need to spend Shells and $OOP and they will get another Spirit Beast NFT as a reward. Spirit beasts can also be obtained by playing the game, but obviously, the genesis Spirit Beasts are stronger and will give players way more benefits.

Then there is the $PKTK token which is an ERC-20 token and can be obtained by exchanging Shells for the off-chain version gPKTK. gPKTK can then be swapped by $PKTK on a 1:1 ratio. Players who want to speed up their in-game progression can buy $PKTK to exchange for Shells which have in-game utility.

Then there is the $OOP token whose utility is mainly governance.

Roadmap

This is a fresh project so players that begin now their adventure are early. The next step for Oath of Peak, accordingly to their Roadmap, is to launch tokens which will happen around Q2 or Q3 of 2023. Since the team already launched the $PKTK token on Uniswap, I guess the token that will be released by this time will be the $OOP token.

I guess at some point, even though it is not mentioned, the team will also launch the iOS and PC versions. Right now PC players can only play the game through BlueStacks, which does not offer the best gaming experience.

Last Thoughts

Oath of Peak to me looks like another mobile MMORPG like many others. By the footage, it seems like it is above average in comparison with other games of the same genre. It reminds me of projects like Ninokuni and MIR4. For the fans of the genre, I do believe this will be a great hit.

I am just a bit concerned regarding their tokenomics. The team mentions they have innovative tokenomics and the tokens will not suffer the same fate as in other web3 games. But having a free-to-play game where everyone can earn tokens and extract value from the ecosystem is a combination that failed multiple times in the past.

Obviously, if the intention is to mint more than one NFT then the amount of $ETH required will increase. Users must also have some extra tokens to pay for gas fees.

What’s WarQube?

WarQube is a “Play-To-Earn” cooperative game that combines the Tower Defense, Isometric Shooter, and MOBA genres. The game will count with three different game modes: PvE, PvP, and Raid.

In PvE players must protect an enemy base from alien races. If the Cube with valuable knowledge is destroyed, players will lose the match. If the team of players manages to defeat the final wave of enemies, they will achieve victory.

In PvP players must defend their base and attack the other team’s base. On each base, there will be turrets and from there drones will spawn. These drones will then advance with the goal to destroy the enemy base. This game mode falls more into the MOBA genre. Every team will consist of four players.

In Raid mode, players must clear a location full of enemies and defeat the boss. This is a co-op mode and, by completing a Raid, players will be rewarded with an NFT.

The game will include NFTs like the Energy Cubes, essential to earn tokens and Skins. There will be two tokens: $WQT and $WQC. And the game has a large emphasis on “play-to-earn”.

Personally, WarQube did not convince me for the following reasons:

• The gameplay does not look that exciting
• There is not that much activity on their discord
• I doubt they will manage to sell 2,500 NFTs in a bear market
• The game has a large emphasis on “Play-to-Earn”
• I am almost sure that the team bought bots and fake users to mimic user interaction

How to play Afterland?

Afterland is available on the Elixir launcher, a platform with many web3 games like Chronos: The Dawn of Time and Tollan Worlds.

To play it users must:

1. Go to Elixir’s official website
2. Create an account
3. Download the launcher
4. Find Afterland on the launcher and click on ‘download’
5. After the download is complete, click on play and enjoy the open alpha

What’s Afterland?

Afterland is a First-Person shooter on the WAX blockchain. I am not a big fan of web3 gaming on WAX since most games there are way too simple for me. But Afterland surprised me. It is a good shooter to play casually and I loved its ‘Borderlands graphical style’. It is quite rare to see games with that kind of cartoonish graphics.

So far only PvE is available and it will be the main focus of the project, but PvP is already on the Roadmap. Players go to dynamically generated instances that have different goals. Over time the difficulty increases, so there is constant pressure to hurry up and complete those goals.

By killing monsters and completing goals players are rewarded with gold and items. Gold can be used to purchase new weapons and items in merchant shops that are spread around the map. The idea is to make it as further as possible since at a certain point every player will die. Personally, I found it quite challenging. I was facing monsters all the time, health potions are scarce and there is the constant pressure of the map difficulty.

When it comes to its economy there are going to be two main ways to earn in this game accordingly to their whitepaper. By crafting items and by betting tokens on your performance on a designated map.

Players can buy a lobby and set up a crafting operation. By spending $ELEC and $AFL lobby owners can craft items and later sell them to other players for profit. Those who trust in their skills can bet on their performance on a certain map. For this, each player will have to allocate tokens to a pool and then play and try to go as further as possible. Top players then reap all the rewards. There will also be a F2P game mode with low rewards and there will be also scholarships.

I think Afterland’s economy will be sustainable in the long term since in most game modes players will be the ones that will allocate tokens to the reward pools. But, personally, I do not like the idea of having to spend money every time I want to play. Nevertheless, Afterland is still in its early stages of development and probably many things will change by the full game release.

Mark Skaggs is now involved with the game and is one of the team members behind this decision. This is extremely bullish for GALA Games and Town Star. For those who do not know Mark, he was behind the Facebook title Farmville that made grandmas wake up at 4 AM to harvest some crops and feed their virtual chickens. That game went viral back in the day! At some point, it counted 100,000,000 active players! Great games take time to be developed, polished and balanced. Town Star is no exception. The game saw numerous changes since its birth in 2020 and now it is time to reshape its tokenomics.

What will change?

All $TOWN must be swapped by $GALA at the exchange rate of 2:1. In the next 60 days the platform where players can do the exchange will be live. When it comes to Town Star nodes, instead of earning $TOWN, node holders will earn $GALA. This will happen via a burn-to-mint mechanism identical to Spider Tanks. Players must do the exchange in a period of 180 days, otherwise they will lose their tokens.

This change will contribute to the sustainability of the whole GALA Games ecosystem. Every time a player buys an item with $GALA there will be a burn of those tokens. Then, a portion of that $GALA is going to be minted for node holders and another portion will go to Play-and-Earn in Town Star. This change will also increase the demand for $GALA and eventually will help to create buying pressure.

New Version of Town Star

The team will take some time to implement these changes. In January there will be a playtest and in February the game will launch with the following changes:

• Play&Earn system where players can earn $GALA
• Decorating game
• View other player’s towns
• Players will be able to upgrade their NFTs
• The game will be cheat proof
• More competions
• Decoration competitions

Meanwhile, players can still enjoy Town Star while the new version is being developed.

Last Thoughts

GALA Games simply does not stop growing and improving. They now count several AAA titles that players can enjoy for free like Spider Tanks and Superior. Then, all their games have innovative tokenomics and now $GALA has a new utility within Town Star. Last but not least, they are launching the GALA films and they are purchasing Ember Entertainment which will bring new mobile titles to GALA Games.

No gaming ecosystem managed to grow as fast as GALA. I do believe that right now they are the best gaming ecosystem in web3. The only that can compete with them is Immutable X, which might be falling behind. Personally, I am bullish on GALA Games and will keep a close eye on the ecosystem. This is great news for every crypto enthusiast. Mastercard already dipped its toes in Web3 before by making crypto accessible to all its users. But now, they are increasing their exposure by launching such a program. I believe this will create pressure and a FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) feeling in other payment systems and large companies.

That is right! We are in January and the team intends to launch player-controlled gameplay in Q1 of 2023. It can take up to three months before players can access all the features that are shut down, like fusing. The reason behind this decision is that the maintenance costs of the 2D game with only a few active players are no longer sustainable.

The team understands that turning off most of the game will cause doubt and uncertantity among the community. But, they are confident that the project will evolve and will go back to being a big hit in web3 Gaming. On their official Twitch channel users can watch Corey Wilton, CEO of the project, talking about this decision and answering some questions from the community.

But, there are still a few things that players can do while waiting for the reborn of Pegaxy. Below are the features that are still accessible and usable:

What’s Pegaxy?

Pegaxy so far has been a “play2earn” horse racing simulator where players earn the utility token $VIS when they finish a race in one of the top three positions. $VIS then has different utilities within the ecosystem. Now things are changing and Pegaxy will go from being a simulator to a real game where players control their NFT pegas.

I have always mentioned that Pegaxy as a simulator would not survive the harshness of crypto winter. By the stats of dapp radar we can see that users are leaving the ecosystem. When it comes to the game’s assets, $VIS, $PGX and Pegas themselves, they are all worthless which is another indicator that players are not interested in playing the game. Now add the fact that the game will be turned off for two months to the equation, and from it, there are two possible results.

One and, in my opinion, the most likely scenario. The gameplay is not good enough to attract old and new players and Pegaxy dies completely. Second, the gameplay is actually engaging and the most die hard fans of the project come back with a few new players. Personally, I think it will die. I took a look into the footage and it does not look like it is that fun to play, so in the end, people will play just for financial reasons. But all Pegaxy assets are worthless so there will be no reason to play the game at all.

Wether Pegaxy goes to its grave or is reborn like the phoenix rests now in the hands of the team. I will leave you with a video with my personal opinion regarding Pegaxy in 2023.

Just a few weeks ago Undead Blocks introduced new features in a massive update that completely changed its replayability and now, multiplayer! The team does not stop improving the game and making it a better experience for all their community members.

Right now players can join another survivor in a duo, co-op game mode. One player will play Eva and the other as Lucas. In the future, co-op will be improved even further and there will be matches with up to four different players. For this to happen, the team will add more survivors to the game. This update is a significant step for this Zombie Survival Shooter and a complete game-changer.

What about the full game release?

The full game release will come out on late January 2023. Team members already leaked that in the future there will be a mall map, more weapons like the wave gun, more enemies, and a battle pass system. Whether all these features are going to be available or not from the first day is still not known. Recently, Grant Haseley, the executive director of the game left a leak regarding the VIP game mode for NFT Holders where players will “kill2earn”.

I believe this is part of a bigger article that will come out to inform the community of everything that is going to be available on the full game. “Many crypto and Web3 games have completely abandoned daily earnings due to sustainability concerns and rewards abuse. Undead Blocks is a zombie FPS on the Immutable X ecosystem. The project has been making considerable progress in the past two months, and its gameplay has completely changed. It is a free-to-play game with NFTs and a token, $UNDEAD which soon will turn into an ecosystem token, $WAGYU.

The NFTs give their holders the possibility to earn daily in game, and they have a total cap of 6,500. So there is no NFT inflation, like in Axie Infinity for example, where players mint NFTs. If you want to know more about its economy I recommend you watch this video.

Personally, I think Undead Blocks will thrive in 2023. Its gameplay is engaging, especially now with multiplayer, more content is coming, and daily earnings will also attract a lot of players. As a zombie survival game, it is unmatched and there is no competition in web3. As a shooter, it is also one of the best that are out now.

The project is positioning itself to attract a vast player base. At some point, it will come out on mobile and browser and the team occasionally organizes free tournaments with prize pools of 15,000 USD for participants!
