Zed Run, one of the original, blockchain-based racing games, adds a new rental system for their players. Officially referred to as a Borrowing system, owners can rent out their horses to players, with both parties splitting any race profits. This borrow a Racehorse feature is important for a game like Zed Run. And this update should help improve player engagement and activity.

The Zed Run borrowing system looks very similar to what we’ve seen with Riot Racers. The borrowers pick a Racehorse from the rental list, enter it into races, and thensplit the profits with the horse owner. No prior requirements involved for borrowing. Just connect your wallet, pick a horse from the Borrowing marketplace, and start racing!

May I Borrow a Racehorse?

a Zed Racehorse for rent

Zed Run offers a safe rental system. The NFTs never leave the owner’s wallet. But, in a bit of a twist, Horse owners can only acquire Lending Permits by staking ZED tokens. Each Permit allows the holder to put one Horse up for rental. Owners who wish to rent multiple horses will need multiple Permits. Holders can turn in permits they aren’t using and receive their staked tokens back.

The staking component is an interesting design decision, as it forces the owners to be a little more engaged with the ecosystem and invest in ZED tokens as well as Horses.

Borrowing is as simple as selecting the horse you want and then clicking the Borrow Racehorse button. It requires signing two transactions, but neither one costs gas fees. Lending permits have a limited duration. Once the lending period is up, the Horse returns to the marketplace, or to the owner’s stable depending on their settings. Players can only borrow one horse at a time, to prevent someone from hoarding all of the horses. Rentals run for four days and currently default to a 50/50 split. Though hopefully, a future update will allow the owners to set their own percentages and rental periods.

When a borrower earns a prize payout from a paid race, their entry fee is refunded before the profits are split between owner and racer. This is a nice way to provide extra encouragement for entering the paid races!

Zed Head Nood Suit?

does a horse take a dump in the woods?

Zed Run recently made a collaboration with a project called Human Park. This resulted in the creation of special,’ Zed Head’ skins that are either beautiful or the stuff nightmares are made of, depending on your perspective.

Players can already equip and wear these suits in the Human Park demo client. Interested parties may mint their own suit at https://www.vhslab.com/?section=zedhead, or purchase an already minted one on Open Sea.

New mints cost ETH (0.05) or 875 Zed tokens. There are nine different designs available, and no mint limit, though this mint will only be available for a limited time.

What is Zed Run?

Zed Run is a horse racing simulation game running on the Ethereum blockchain. Players own, breed, and race Horses for fun and potential profit. Races include both paid and free variants, with regular tournaments as well. Races run 24 hours a day, and those who don’t own any Zed Horses can use the new Borrowing system to acquire a loaner horse. Players earn ZED tokens by winning races and spend ZED tokens to enter paid races, breed horses, and acquire Lending Permits.

ZED Run is a horse racing simulation game built on Polygon blockchain that had recently announced its ZED Token claiming period. The ZED Token is a fungible token that will become the main utility and in-game currency of ZED Run. Until now, ZED Run used Polygon ETH as its in-game currency. However, in future, the Token will be used for payments on the ZED Run platform, accessing in-game functionalities, participating in special events, and many other utilities.

ZED Token Claiming

All ZED Run users who meet the Airdrop eligibility criteria can claim the ZED token. This token will be distributed to all ZED RUN existing users who have shown consistent engagement across racing, breeding, passes, and skin ownership. A total of 7% of the ZED Token supply will be allocated through an airdrop to existing ZED RUN users to recognize their engagement in the ZED community.

ZED Token Eligibility Details

The claiming period started on July 28, 2022, and will be open for 90 days. After that, tokens players will not claim get transferred back to the Play-and-earn rewards treasury. The developers created the airdrop eligibility criteria based on racing, ownership, and breeding data across Ethereum and Polygon blockchain. This eligibility is based on several factors such as length of racehorse ownership, the number of paid races completed, the number of free races completed, and the activation bonus.

The ZED Tokens will be distributed based on players’ contributions to the ZED Run platform. Ownership and activity parameters are considered to create an airdrop score. The total Airdrop score is equal to the sum of total scores for both ownership and activity metrics. So, players who are most active in Zed Run game will receive a higher amount of Tokens. Gas fees will be borne by the ZED Token issuer for those eligible users that are claiming the token. The token allocation has been divided into several Tiers which are as follows:

Gamers who own an awesome stallion in the horse racing game Zed Run will be pleased to learn that horse breeding is back on the menu. The developers of Zed Run announced the return of the NFT feature with a simple but efficient message: ‘Breeding is back’.

For those uninitiated in the ways of Zed Run, know that every horse in this horse racing game is a player-owned NFT. The owners of these NFTs can race their horses in different competitions and win crypto prizes in the process. Victories are won based on horse statistics and a bit of luck.

Players have been buying all kinds of horses from the marketplace, and these are mostly pure-breeds. These tend to be the best horses available. Making money however, isn’t limited to racing. Players can also make their stallion available for breeding: resulting in new horses.

Keep in mind, Zed Run is deep into the horse breeding terminology. A virgin horse is either a colt (male) or filly (female). As soon as a horse as produced one offspring, the male becomes a stallion and the female a mare.

Rules for breeding horses in Zed Run

  1. Male horse owners get the breeding fee
  2. Male horse owners get to set a fee themselves
  3. Female horse owners get to keep the infant
  4. Right now you can’t breed within your own stable, so you need to find someone to breed with
  5. Only 0.5% of the infants becomes a Super Coat horse, having the same fur as both its parents
  6. Breeding two Genesis horses, create a Legendary pony
  7. Horses can’t breed with siblings, parents or grandparents

More details about breeding in Zed Run in the official FAQ.

What is Zed Run?

In essence Zed Run is a blockchain-powered horse racing game. The game first launched on Ethereum and now made a successful jump to Polygon. Players can collect horses. Then they need to race in competitions. In addition they can breed horses, and create a legacy or strong bloodline. There are four different bloodlines in the game, for example the Nakamoto is generally the strongest performer, but the Buterin bloodline can be very impredictable. Overall the bloodline influences a horse’s abilities significantly.

In addition horses have a genotype. Breed two horses with genotype 10 and 25, then their child will have genotype 35. The higher that number, that less pure blood they are. This also means that they will perform less. Furthermore there’s a breed type, which only counts for genesis horses. It adds some extra spice to the rarity and performance. Horses will also have characteristic, ranging from distance they can run, to gate preference, handicap and fatigue.

Players can enter a race through the website. They select a gate, a horse, and then they will need to pay a fee to join. These Zed Run games offer a prize pool, making the game possibly profitable. However, there are also races that are completely free. These free races are often timed and event based.

In a surprise move Stella Artois is the latest company to move into the metaverse, as the Belgian beer brand now sponsors the horse racing game Zed Run. Stella Artois will have a limited edition NFT series in the Zed Run game, in celebration of the British horse racing season.

Zed Run players will be able to pick up 50 different horse skins and NFT artworks that celebratie the tradition and passion of horse racing. The whole thing is dipped in the ‘The Life of Artois’ styling. These artworks come with a horse by the way.

The limited edition Stella Artois series for Zed Run is part of their Genesis collection. This first generation of racehorse will only have 38,000 horses in total. The auctions for these horses and artworks are live now, and will happen until June 19th. The auctions will go to the highest bidder, and bidding takes place on Opensea.

When you’ve got a horse and you can start racing, then you might find the Stella Artois track in the game. This track is -once again- based on The Life of Artois.
