I’m declaring April the Month of Mobile for web3 gaming! As always, the space is changing rapidly. And while AI is the current hot buzzword, mobile is the major impetus behind much of the current development. Mobile games also could be the gateway for a flood of new players to get involved with the blockchain space.

I expect to see a number of new mobile, web3-enabled games launched over the coming months. And if they have any sort of success at all, they will attract a growing crowd of developers to the scene. We have mints, alphas, and pre-registrations from mobile focused games such as Hunters On-Chain, Blast Royale, WAGMI Defense and Rogue Nation. Meanwhile, Gods Unchained is still smoothing out the rough edges of their mobile app and Gala Games works on bringing their newly acquired suite of mobile games into the blockchain space!

Now of course, not all games will be playable on mobile devices. But casual gaming is a huge market. One that many web3 developers are eager to acquire!

Hunters On-Chain

Despite only being available on a testnet, Hunters on-Chain has continued to hold onto a spot in the top 10 most played games for the past three weeks! With their T1 Genesis Hunter Chest sale complete, look for Hunters to push for a release soon. They also recently announced that they plan on releasing mobile versions first. Rumors have it that downloads are already available for early testers!

Hunters On-Chain is free to play. If you want to get started by playing on the testnet, you can just ask on their Discord and they will provide you with a common Hunter to use. This Hunter will also transfer over to mainnet once the game launches.

Mocaverse

Mocaverse held their first PFP mint and also implemented an experience system for their new NFTs in March. Part of Animoca Brands, expect Mocaverse to continue to find ways to bring value to their Moca NFTs. It’s rare to see a PFP collection provide utility for their NFTs so quickly out of the box. But this show of speed bodes well for the future of this collection. And since Animoca seems to have their hands in half of the web3 gaming space, this feels like a space to keep an eye on.

Voxie Tactics

The Dragonfest event kicks off in April bringing a new PvE challenge, a new Drako class, and plenty more. Voxie Tactics has also introduced and released a number of updates for their crafting / forging system. The strategy genre is very under-served in web3 gaming. Voxie Tactics already has a solid foothold. If they can continue to build on their game with additional activities, events, and UI improvements, this free to play, play and earn, fantasy-based tactical game should be around for quite some time!

Splinterlands

Recent adjustments in Splinterlands to counter bots has resulted in a significant decrease in active players for this trading card game. Now presumably, most of those were bots, so we’re not seeing a major outflux of real-life players. But the imminent release of the first phases of land gameplay (surveying should open in early April), will be a good litmus test to see how many active landowners are around.

Echoes of Empire

Echoes of Empire announced their plans to release a beta in October of 2023, and also run a playtest in April. The strategy gaming market is surprisingly thin in web3 gaming. So there is still plenty of opportunity to claim a lead role.

This Echoes of Empires playtest runs from April 19th to April 24th. This round will only be open to those holding Celestial Claim NFTs. Unfortunately, I don’t own on, so I’ll have to just get my info about the game secondhand. But I do look forward to seeing what they have to show!

At long last, Voxie Tactics introduces a PvE mode to their game, allowing players to learn the game and try out different strategies while playing against AI opponents.

There are no earnings in Training Mode. But this a feature that Voxie Tactics sorely needed. Having to figure out the game mechanics and class abilities while in a timed, PvP match was not an especially fun task. But with the new Training Mode option, players can play against an AI team, with no turn timer!

Their recent patch also includes a number of bug fixes and balance changes. You can read up on all of the changes and patch history on the official game updates page.

Dragonfest

Voxie Tactics has an upcoming event called Dragonfest. Dragonfest runs from April 3rd to May 1st bringing new items, new events, and a new character class!

Dragonfest features a community PvE event, the Bone Dragon Boss. Players take three Voxies into the Bone Dragon lair and try to survive. Players will compete for spots on a leaderboard for this event. Also, by participating, players contribute towards the community goal of defeating the Bone Dragon Boss. Once that quest is completed, there will be a celebratory event as well as community rewards.

During Dragonfest, players gather Bone Fragments by competing in battles, playing the new PvE content, using the Voxies marketplace, and taking part in certain community events. Trade Bone Fragments for Bone Chests, which contain special, Dragon themed items. These chests might even be a good way to find items with fire resistance!

Voxie Tactics unveiled their plans for upcoming changes to their strategic battle game, which includes new classes for some existing characters, a special event, and the first PvE content for the game!

Coming up soon is the VOXEL airdrop. Voxies plans to airdrop VOXEL tokens to players who were affected by server issues the game had during the summer of 2022. This airdrop should automatically land in eligible wallets on February 1st. And that’s just in time to browse the items in the official Voxies Merchandise Shop, scheduled to open on January 26th. The store will accept VOXEL tokens, providing an additional use case for the game currency.

Voxies are also breaking out Dragons and Undead into their own class groups. These will no longer be classified as Monsters and each will have new, class-specific abilities, such as fire resistance for Dragons.

In addition, Voxie Tactics plans to add a new feature to the Arcanist’s Forge called Infusion. Infusion will allow players to add a specific element to their items, providing even more customization options for players.

Dragon Fest and the Bone Dragon Boss

Along with this comes the first PvE event, the Bone Dragon Boss. Players take three Voxies into the Bone Dragon lair and try to survive. Players will compete for spots on a leaderboard for this event. Also, by participating, players contribute towards the community goal of defeating the Bone Dragon Boss. Once that quest is completed, there will be some sort of celebratory event as well as community rewards.

To celebrate these changes, Voxies will host a Dragon Fest event. During this event, players can gather Bone Fragments. Players trade Bone Fragments for Bone Chests, which contain Dragon themed items. Players can acquire Bone Fragments by competing in battles, playing the new PvE content, using the Voxies marketplace, and taking part in special community events.

The team hints that the items in the Bone Chests could include some things that help against fire attacks, as well as fiery pets!

Santa Claus arrived earlier at Voxie Tactics by bringing the WinterVerse to its players. The team does not stop refining this Turned Based Tactical RPG with Minecraft-like graphics. Every month new content and fixes are added to the game and December was no exception.

With the WinterVerse players can count on the following:

• New Weapons that can be obtained at the forge and by winning PvP matches
• New Snowy Arenas
• Holiday gifts that can be obtained in PvP and unwrapped in the Forge
• New Reindeer pet (7% chance when opening a gift)

On top of this, the team is also organizing 12 days of giveaways on Voxie’s Twitter.

All users have to do is follow Voxie on Twitter, retweet the tweet that corresponds to the current day of the event, tag two friends, and add the tag #12DaysofVoxies. Every day the reward pool will change. So far participants already earned consumables that players can use to recover health, mana, or to remove a bad status from a Voxie during a match. Right now it is the 2nd day of the giveaway event where the prize is an Epic Crystal that can be used in the Forge.

What’s Voxie Tactics?

Voxie Tactics falls into the Tactical Turned-Based RPG genre. It is also a web3 game because it interacts with the Polygon Blockchain and has NFTs and the token $VOXEL in its ecosystem. Its gameplay is identical to Final Fantasy Tactics but with a graphical style similar to Minecraft.

Each player starts a match with three Voxies, the game’s characters. Each Voxie has stats and different skills. Voxies also have gear that can be equipped before each battle or swapped during the match. Every turn players can move with each one of their Voxies and do one action, and after that action, the Voxie will remain idle until it is its turn again.

When it comes to its Web3 elements Voxie Tactics has as NFTs:

And it has the token $VOXEL which is the utility and governance token of the game. By winning PvP matches, players earn $VOXEL and if they are lucky, also an NFT. The game will include PvE options in the future.

Season 0 is the first official, ranked season of Voxie Tactics. This 10 week long competition uses an ELO ranking system and features two modes, Draft Arena and Extreme Arena. The top 26% of the players receive leaderboard rewards, while everyone who puts in playing time receives at least something for their participation.

We don’t have a definite date yet for the beginning of Season 0, but the roadmap slots it into the week of October 10th, possibly that Friday (the 14th).

Draft Arena and Extreme Passes

Draft Arena is mode open to all. But to compete in the Extreme Arena, you have to purchase a pass from the Voxies Marketplace first. Passes come in two forms, Gold and Diamond. Each Pass includes a special, cosmetics Goat pet, as well as a number of consumable potions. The gold Pass costs 100 VOXEL tokens, and the Diamond Pass costs 1,000. These are non-transferable.

The Extreme Arena holds the bulk of the leaderboard prize pool, with 1.5 million VOXEL tokens.

The Extreme Arena is the main game. Here players can use the free to play Voxies and Items, while also playing with the Voxie NFTs they own. Draft Arena restricts players to selecting and equipping their team from a random selection of Characters and Items. Then, they use that team in matches, seeing how many games they can win before they are defeated. Each player gets three lives in Draft mode. Once all your lives are gone, you have to start over with a new team.

For both modes, Champion tier is reserved for the top 100 players. Reaching Bronze tier only requires five wins during the season and playing enough to receive an ELO ranking. The top 10% of the players are considered Silver Tier, the top 5% Gold, and the top 2.5% Diamond. At the end of the Season, players receive the rewards for their current rank, plus the item rewards from all of the lower tiers! Pretty sweet!

Season 0 Rewards

So what are the rewards? They include VOXEL tokens, plus special game items. The Extreme Arena holds the bulk of the leaderboard prize pool, with 1.5 million VOXEL tokens, while the Draft Arena rewards just 500,000 tokens in total. But both modes do offer a selection of item prizes.

For the Extreme Arena, the item rewards are as follows. For first place, a unique Godly shield called Cogs of War, for Champions, a Legendary Battle Purse that provides a random Legendary item. Diamond tier players receive an Epic Battle Purse, while Gold ranked players are awarded a set of five Crystals to use in the Forge. Silver and Bronze players receive sets of Potions.

Item rewards for the Draft Arena follow the same pattern. For this battle mode, the top place finisher wins a unique, Godly helmet called the Fitful Veil.

And all of this is in addition to the normal rewards players receive while playing the game. These come from winning matches and include VOXEL tokens and sometimes NFT items.

Voxie Tactics Renting Feature

The Renting feature is a new feature in the VoxieVerse that will be launched on October 14, 2022. With the help of renting, players can try new NFTs and items before buying them. A rental fee will be applied to all owners and players who rent an existing NFT. Players with unused NFTs can rent them instead of selling them, which would generate a passive income. 

The renting feature will create a safe and secure ecosystem for renting Voxie NFTs and in-game items. On the other hand, a player who borrows an NFT at rent can try out different classes and races of Voxies, try out weapons and armor and do a lot more. Furthermore, it requires you to pay just a small processing fee.

To rent NFTs, a player must make an offer to the owner. It depends on whether the owner wants to accept the deal or make a counteroffer. The owners must also plan the duration of the rental agreement, set a flat VOXEL rental fee, decide the NFT rewards or reserve the NFTs for a specific wallet address. At the end of the rental period, the rentee will lose access to the NFTs, and the owner will be able to claim back their NFTs from the Voxies Marketplace.

What are the Rental Rewards?

According to the rental agreements, owners of NFTs will receive 96% of the amount of VOXEL tokens mentioned in the agreement. The rest 4% is the royalty fee. So, if a player pays 100 VOXEL, the owner receives 96, and the developer AlwaysGeeky Games receive 4 VOXEL. 

Besides these, the owner and developer do not receive NFT rewards; rentee players receive all NFT rewards. The rental agreement can be canceled anytime by paying the VOXEL rental fee. For owners, it can be canceled only if the rental fee is zero; otherwise, players can cancel it only.

What is the Voxie Tactics Game?

Voxie Tactics is a free blockchain RPG game involving Voxie avatar NFTs. The game allows players to engage in two gameplay modes – battling and exploration. In battling, players move around the map and use the Voxie characters to fight enemies. In exploration, players can explore different landscapes such as deserts, swamps, cybernetic realms, and many more. Blankos Season One

Blankos Block Party rocks into Season One with new classes, new perks, a new Party Pass, new Blankos collections, and even a new basic, starting Blanko (making the old, red Blanko a kind of collector’s item!) Life Beyond After Alpha Party

Life Beyond closes down their first alpha phase with a huge after party on October 12th. Incorporating the lore into the gameplay is a big part of Life Beyond. So, to celebrate the accomplishments of the players in clearing an area for the initial settlement on Dolos, the DEEP Agency will be hosting a special, in-game gathering. Though only open to holders of any of the Key NFTs from Life Beyond, Keys can be picked up from the secondary markets for very reasonable prices. You also have until October 11th to participate in the current alpha missions and earn experience and other potential rewards.

Mouse Haunt Dodge Ball PvP

On October 4th, Mouse Haunt Dodge Ball plans to launch their first PvP experience. Mouse Haunt Dodge Ball is a game about mice, playing dodgeball, and then coming back to haunt each other when they are defeated! Basically, a MOBA style game with some unique features. Players collect cannonballs, and try to hit the enemy heroes, depleting their shields and stunning them. Register on their site to receive early access. Private Beta 2 Launched for Illuvium Arena

Illuvium Private Beta 2 brings a major update to the auto-battler game. Illuvium Arena is only part of the planned Illuvium universe. The current alpha for Illuvium Arena is a PvE, auto-battler where players field a team of creatures against a selection of foes. After each successful battle, new foes appear and the player has a chance to change and upgrade their team composition. Players compete to see who can survive the most waves of enemies and earn a spot on top of the daily leaderboards.

Voxie Tactics Season 0

Voxie Tactics Season 0 launches on October 10th, with weekly leaderboards, a rental system, and opportunities to play and earn. This squad-based, fantasy, tactical combat game could solidify itself as a long-term web3 game. We’ve seen the rental markets for some games implemented with lackluster results, but Voxie Tactics may be in the right gaming space to make it work. MetalCore Open World Alpha

We haven’t seen any massive FPS games in the web3 space yet, and MetalCore looks to be the first! With a strong semblance to the old Planetside game, MetalCore promises a sci-fi, team-based shoot-em-up where players can play as ground troops or pilot a vehicle or mech as they battle across various maps. MetalCore received positive reviews from their recent demo at PAX West. Expect to see the first chances to play in their alpha in early October.

Civitas Character mint

Though they recently launched an alpha version of a game called Machines Arena on Steam, the Civitas team turns back to their primary game and prepares for their first Character Mint. The mint starts on October 4th and features two Character types, several archetypes, a whitelist mint, and a Dutch auction! All the info about the mint is here.

The Sandbox Alpha Season 3 Special events

The third season of The Sandbox is still on for the whole month of October and many events with special rewards will be running. Besides the general season rewards, many special events are held around different partners. There are rewards for specific avatar holders, but also more events open to all for chances to earn NFTs or even $SAND prizes.

Season 0 marks the start of the official launch for Voxie Tactics. Voxie Tactics opened up their beta back in February of 2022 and have been working on improvements ever since. They’ve fixed bugs, re-balanced items, battled bots, and now, they are ready to unleash their game to the general public (though the game has been free to play during beta as well).

Roadmap to Season 0

In fact, the team is so ready, that they have given us a detailed timeline for their plans. The preparation for Season 0 begins this week (September 26th) with the launch of a new client, introduction of the Forge, and details on the functionality of the upcoming rental system. This will also mark the beginning of leaderboard testing, featuring two weeks of competitions (with rewards for the top 100 players), before the official launch.

The Forge is a burn-based crafting system. Players select up to 10 items to Forge into a new item. Some of the recipes are specific. I.E., burn 10 epic items to receive a random legendary item. But, players can also test their luck in random forging. For this, players submit up to 10 items to be burned, with the output randomly generated, though affected by the rarity and stats of the burned items.

Future enhancements to the Forge include secret Recipes, Godly Blueprints (for making Godly items), and Crystals which can be used in place of items.

This first week of October brings more informative blog posts as well as the release of the Voxies trailer. Then, on the week of October 10th, Voxie Tactics goes live as Season 0 launches along with the rental system and weekly rewards!

A week after that, the marketing campaign kicks into gear and the web3 space has another play and earn, NFT-based game to add to its resumé!

What Are Voxies?

Voxies are 10k, generative, voxel project of 3D animated characters. Every Voxie is unique and features 20 attributes in addition to a Class and Race. Players equip their Voxies with items and pets to help them on the Voxie Tactics battlefield. All Voxies and Items are individual NFTs that can be bought and sold as normal. However, Voxies are static NFTs. Though Voxies use equipment and level up, that information is kept on the servers for the Voxie Tactics game. In the Voxie Tactics game, players field teams of three Voxies to fight for rewards and glory.

Voxie has its own token, VOXEL. VOXEL tokens are used for crafting, tournament entry fees, and at the in-game marketplace.

Voxie Tactics, a free to play, play and earn strategy game, plans to migrate their game NFTs to Polygon to take advantage of the lower transaction fees associated with this blockchain. The migration kicks off towards the end of the month (September 2022) and takes place over two days.

Polygon Migration

Note: All times mentioned are EST

The first stage of this migration kicks off on September 20th, 2022. The Voxie team recommends that all Voxie-related transactions be paused and listings removed from NFT marketplaces by 10am. At 11am, Voxie will update the metadata information on Ethereum to show the migration to Polygon.

On September 21st, the Voxie team increases the royalty fees for all Voxie NFTs on Ethereum to 100%. So, if anyone buys a Voxie on the wrong network, all of the funds go to the team who can then reimburse the purchaser. Those fees kick in at 10am, and at 1pm the smart contract for the new Voxie collection will be deployed on Polygon.

Then, on the 22nd, all of the final pieces are put into place. The wallet snapshot occurs at 10am, with the NFT airdrop on Polygon starting at 1pm. Later that day, the team plans a maintenance period, beginning at 5pm. This is to prepare the Voxie Tactics games for using the new Polygon NFTs. The Voxie team scheduled a two-hour maintenance window, but these things almost always take longer than planned. So plan accordingly!

Not only does the move to Polygon allow players to trade and transfer NFTs with much lower fees, but if they use the official Voxie Tactics market, there will be no gas fees at all!

Owners of Voxie NFTs will not need to do much of anything. They can even keep playing the game all the way up to the maintenance window on the 22nd. With this migration, all of the NFTs on the main Ethereum network become dead NFTs.

What’s New with Voxie Tactics?

It’s been a while since we covered Voxie Tactics. And though the game is still officially in an alpha state, players can already earn VOXEL tokens and NFTs as rewards for winning battles. Voxie Tactics is free to play, strategy game with play and earn potential.

Since our previous article and video review, the Voxies team has been cruising along — updating the game, fending off bots, and adjusting their play and earn economy. As a reward to those players who have been active during the alpha and dealt with various game issues (including sometimes receiving a zero VOXEL payout after winning a match), the Voxie team plans to make a one-time airdrop of VOXEL tokens to players, and also offer a temporary doubling of tokens awarded. The date for both bonuses is still yet to be determined, but I would expect it to be after the upcoming migration to Polygon.
