Combat in the Dread Arena just got a little more exciting! Now players have a selection of four characters to choose from when entering the Dread Arena. Each character has their own weapons and attack stances, providing a variety of options for players to try.

In addition, using special abilities becomes a bit easier as special abilities will no longer use Stamina and their cooldowns are reduced by 50%! Stamina use for attacking and sprinting has been readjusted to take into account these changes. Returning players may also notice that the enemy waves in the Dread Arena now have a fewer foes. This is true, but they have also been given a slight strength adjustment as well. And they may be a bit smarter as well. So they won’t fall quite as easily as before!

This update also brings a major visual upgrade. Pretty much everything has been updated — environment, lighting, crowd, even a new fog effect, adding an extra spooky feeling to the Dread Arena!

Players now also have some additional options for adjusting sounds and graphics, as well as the using a Playstation controller to play. Future updates planned for the Dread Arena include a leaderboard, co-op mode, and more content.

Players who own Guardian or Furie NFTs will have no need to level up in-game, and will also receive access to special quests, adventures and boss fights not available to other players. Both Guardians and Furies are still available for minting on the official website. But any new mints are considered Generation 2, and won’t have as many benefits as older mints.

The team released a video preview of an early build to give players a feel of what to expect. The Uldor team plans for three major phases of development for the Dread Arena. The first phase, Phase 0, will mainly center around the basics. Making sure that players can download and play the game, getting some early feedback, and working out major bugs.

Phase 1 brings additional functionality such as player accounts and wallet linking. This phase also introduces leaderboards and rewards. Phase 2, the final planned stage, will focus on final improvements, fixes, and polish. It will also include player progression. Probably through a battle pass sort of feature. In addition, Uldor wants to build in functionality for partner projects to create their own tournaments and events.

Even when complete, the Dread Arena should still be considered an early demo preview and only a tiny taste of what the game will become.

The team has not yet revealed any specific dates or requirements for participating in the Dread Arena, though their roadmap has it launching before the end of the year (2022), with updates throughout 2023. Uldor also plans to release a PvP arena in the future.

For only a limited time, any Guardian or Furie NFT minted will be considered a Phase 1 NFT, with extra benefits. These PFP-style, character NFTs are available for 0.08 $ETH apiece. Each one is a unique, PFP-style, generated character, presented on a comic cover background. These characters will be playable in Uldor, an in-development, fantasy, MMORPG.

Owning these NFTs provides a number of benefits. For starters, every Phase 1 NFT will automatically receive a Pet. The Pets are soulbound to the character and become part of the NFT. Once assigned, the artwork for the character NFTs will be updated to include their Pet. And when played in-game, that character will have their pet follow them around as a 3D NPC.

Future mints also have a chance to receive a pet as part of their random generation. But only Phase 1 NFTs receive a guaranteed Pet.

In addition, owning both a Guardian and a Furie NFT entitles the owner to a free mint of a Resource Plot – 1 per set of NFTs they own. These will generate resources used in crafting.

As well, there will be an initial airdrop of RUNI tokens (and potentially ongoing token rewards), with Phase 1 characters receiving a larger portion. And then there’s the usual sort of stuff you might expect — whitelist access to future mints, access to special Discord channels, free game item drops, and other potential, un-named perks.
