May Mayhem

Town Star relaunches their game on a new game engine called Godot. They will also be adding new content and holding weekly competitions throughout the month. Players can earn rewards by playing in May, with larger rewards for those who place at the top of the competitions.

Champions Arena has an ongoing playtest that extends into May. They have also said to expect the first ever Champions Arena NFT sale sometime this month.

GRIT, an FPS with a western theme plans to open up on a 24/7 basis for everyone with a Gala Games account. This is a huge leap forward for a game that until now, has only been open for a couple of hours a week.

Echoes of Empire just closed their five day playtest, but the team has hinted that there will be some ‘extra special excitement’ in May for EoE. Hopefully it will be a new playtest or beta announcement rather than another sale!

Mirandus will bring us another playtest in May with more goblin killing, and a huge bounty for whoever gets the first kill on their new Boss creature.

Superior should open up as free to play for everyone in May. And Legends Reborn which is already in an open playtest, promises to bring special competitions for venue owners in the coming weeks.

Gala Games also mentions two mobile games that should connect to the web3 world soon – Meow Match and Dragon Strike. These both came from their acquisition of the mobile developer Ember Entertainment earlier this year.

Mark Skaggs is now involved with the game and is one of the team members behind this decision. This is extremely bullish for GALA Games and Town Star. For those who do not know Mark, he was behind the Facebook title Farmville that made grandmas wake up at 4 AM to harvest some crops and feed their virtual chickens. That game went viral back in the day! At some point, it counted 100,000,000 active players! Great games take time to be developed, polished and balanced. Town Star is no exception. The game saw numerous changes since its birth in 2020 and now it is time to reshape its tokenomics.

What will change?

All $TOWN must be swapped by $GALA at the exchange rate of 2:1. In the next 60 days the platform where players can do the exchange will be live. When it comes to Town Star nodes, instead of earning $TOWN, node holders will earn $GALA. This will happen via a burn-to-mint mechanism identical to Spider Tanks. Players must do the exchange in a period of 180 days, otherwise they will lose their tokens.

This change will contribute to the sustainability of the whole GALA Games ecosystem. Every time a player buys an item with $GALA there will be a burn of those tokens. Then, a portion of that $GALA is going to be minted for node holders and another portion will go to Play-and-Earn in Town Star. This change will also increase the demand for $GALA and eventually will help to create buying pressure.

New Version of Town Star

The team will take some time to implement these changes. In January there will be a playtest and in February the game will launch with the following changes:

• Play&Earn system where players can earn $GALA
• Decorating game
• View other player’s towns
• Players will be able to upgrade their NFTs
• The game will be cheat proof
• More competions
• Decoration competitions

Meanwhile, players can still enjoy Town Star while the new version is being developed.

Last Thoughts

GALA Games simply does not stop growing and improving. They now count several AAA titles that players can enjoy for free like Spider Tanks and Superior. Then, all their games have innovative tokenomics and now $GALA has a new utility within Town Star. Last but not least, they are launching the GALA films and they are purchasing Ember Entertainment which will bring new mobile titles to GALA Games.

No gaming ecosystem managed to grow as fast as GALA. I do believe that right now they are the best gaming ecosystem in web3. The only that can compete with them is Immutable X, which might be falling behind. Personally, I am bullish on GALA Games and will keep a close eye on the ecosystem. Town Star brings us a sale for Legendary TradeBot Crates, with a very special deal for their active, Town Star Node Operators! Visit the Town Star store to participate.

Legendary TradeBot Crate Sale

Only 580 of these crates are available during this sale. And the price is a mere $5 for active Node Operators. That’s right, only $5! This sale is designed as a special reward to those owning and actively operating game nodes for Town Star.

Now, that price is only for those flagged as active node operators. To be considered active, a Town Star node operator must have run their node for at least 10 different days in November, for at least six hours on each of those days. Operators who do not qualify as active have to pay $500 per Crate. And if any are left for the public sale, those will go for $1500 each!

The sale for active Town Star Node Operators begins on December 23rd, 1pm PST, and runs for 24 hours. After that, on December 24th, the remaining inventory becomes available to all Town Star Node Operators, also for 24 hours. And then finally, on December 25th, 1pm PT, any Crates still unsold become available to the public. For each stage of this sale, participants may only purchase one Crate total. Payments accepted in GALA, TOWN, or with a credit card.

Reportedly, Town Star saw 1400 active nodes last month, so this may sell out quickly. The parts needed to create a TradeBot include over 200 individual NFTs, all of which you will find in this crate. We don’t know exactly what a TradeBot does in-game, but if it requires that many parts, you have to imagine it must be quite useful!

The Gala Games ecosystem continues to offer new rewards to their node operators. And while purchasing a Gala Games Founder’s Node is out of reach for most people, a lot of the game-specific node licenses are still reasonably priced.

Town Star is already ramping up for the Christmas season with the addition of Enchanted Ornaments. Now they announce four new upcoming items, the Master Wizard,

This Santa themed update brings us the first of four new buildings. All players will be able to create these new buildings in-game (once they’re implemented), but owning the NFT allows players to construct them without using game resources, which can be a huge boost when starting a new town.

This new Christmas themed set includes four items, three for sale, and one as a reward to purchasers of the first three.

New Town Star Buildings

The first new building will be the epic rarity Master Wizard. Each NFT costs $150, with a total limit of 360 mints. This epic level Master Wizards works faster and cheaper than the one built in-game. The Master Wizard produces Magic Powder, Enchanted Objects, and Ice.

Master Wizards go on sale on December 5th. But Wizard crafts wont be added to the game until December 12th.

In addition to Master Wizards we have Wizards Workshop, which will be a Rare NFT. Then, for some serious Christmas Magic, Santa’s Factory, a Legendary NFT, who comes with a special Elf Foreman!

And finally, there is the North Pole Creation Lab. Players who purchases each of the other three NFTs in the set will receive this for free. We don’t know exactly what this Lab does yet, but the team says it will be very important. It will allow new creations by ‘adding bits of North Pole magic into some goods and crafts’. The Lab cannot be purchased from the Gala store and is a special, 2022 only holiday promotional item. So, at most, there will only ever be 360 copies of this. Likely much fewer!

The Wizards Workshop goes on sale on the 12th, Santa’s Factory on the 19th, with the North Pole Creation Lab airdropped on December 26th. We don’t know the prices on the Workshop or Factory yet.

There will also an upcoming addition of Cold to the game. Some Buildings will give off a Cold aura, affecting nearby tiles. Master Wizards are immune to Cold, and Cold will be needed to make Ice.

Enchanted Ornaments

There is also still an ongoing event to collect Enchanted Ornaments. These Ornaments work as effect cards in the game. They can reduce wages or reduce building costs. There are twelve different Ornaments in all. Collect all twelve to receive a number of additional bonuses. These are:

• 50% Global Unit Speed Increase (Stackable with bonus from other NFTs)
• 50% Global Wage Reduction
• 75% Building (Cash) Cost Reduction
• 75% Reduction in Obstacle-Clearing Costs

This additional set bonus is seasonal only, and runs until January 31st, 2023.

Only the Uncommon packs are left in the official market. These cost $30 each and contain four random Ornaments.

Moonville is now on public Alpha and is identical to Gala’s farming title, Town Star. Players choose a location to start their lunar farm, construct buildings, extract resources, and trade with other players. Then, there is a timer for the whole server and after it runs out every farm will reset and players lose all their progress, with the exception of ergons.

Ergons are the equivalent of this project’s future crypto token, $MOON. They can be earned by completing daily missions and are distributed at the end of every tournament. Every player can see their Ergons in their profile and It is a way of rewarding early participants. When the team launches Moonville, these tokens will be swapped by $MOON or NFTs.

The reason why there are tokens and NFTs is that Mooville falls into the play-and-earn category. This means that players will get rewarded for their in-game activity and skill. But these blockchain assets do not exist just to reward players, they have utility in Moonville.

The $MOON token will be used to:

• Purchase Moonstones that facilitate players’ gameplay and by giving temporary NFT upgrades
• Purchase NFTs in the Myria marketplace
• Pay fees and enter weekly tournaments
• Staking

The NFTs will be:

• Buildings that look different and sometimes provide in-game bonuses (ex: Higher production rate)

Basically, Moonville, as a farming game, is quite complex. There are a lot of in-game resources and factors to consider both when deciding where to build a farm and when managing it. This allows for a large diversity of possible farming strategies.

Final Thoughts

Myria is coming hard in the Web3Gaming space with aggressive marketing, partnerships, node sales, the launch of their NFT marketplace and now their very first title is open to the public. Lastly, can Myria become a real competitor of the giant GALA games?

Personally, I do think that yes. If we consider that:

• It already has a large community
• Its first game is a success so far
• They have on their official website more than 40 titles being developed right now
• They are its own Layer 2 Blockchain
• They already have their own NFT marketplace

However, in crypto, nothing is certain, especially during crypto winter, and only time will tell.

Somehow it seems there is a tendency right now for similar projects. Many single-title projects decided to become ecosystems with an identical layout where one token has utility in multiple Web3 Games. Examples of this are SolChicks, where the $CHICKS token became $CATHEON, and Undead Blocks where the $UNDEAD token will become $WAGYU at some point. Certainly, the risk is lower, even if one title fails the tokens will not go to zero immediately.

Town Star overproduced a number of their game NFTs. And so, to take care of this excess inventory, the Town Star team decided to burn thousands of unsold Town Star NFTs. The NFT bonfire happened on October 19th. You can view the transaction for a complete list of the burned NFTs.

But not all of the extra stock was burned. Gala has developed a tradition of dropping NFTs from new games onto Founder Nodes. And they continue that here by saving 2.5% of the NFTs slated for burning and distributing them to those running active Founder’s Nodes. So if you own a Gala Games Founder Node, you might want to check your inventory!

Some may ask why not distribute these NFTs to those running Town Star nodes? After all, these are Town Star NFTs. In short, due to the lack of current rewards, there are not a lot of people running the Town Star nodes. So the distribution would not have been very equitable. But not to worry Town Star Node owners! Even though the distribution of TOWN token is paused for now, Gala promises that you are still considered an early adopter and you will be rewarded!

As for the NFTs, there are still plenty of options for those who want to purchase their own. In fact, there is a new Haunted Maze for the Halloween season. Haunted Mazes come in four rarities, each one with different bonuses. Some provide passive resource income, while others boost local production. Placing all four into your town will cause all of your cows and sheep to move 25% faster!

It wasn’t long ago that Town Star was announcing new rewards for their players. But now, in a sudden move, they cut off all TOWN rewards to players and Node operators.

As one of the older games in blockchain gaming, Town Star was built at a time when the space was still new. Before gaming companies hired economists to help with their game models! And as such, The Town Star economy was an experiment in many ways. And now, much like another OG blockchain game, Axie Infinity, Town Star finds itself in need of a major overhaul!

No more TOWN for you!

Effective as of July 19th, 2022, all TOWN emissions for players and node operators were halted. The team hopes to reward node operators in the future and is still recording data about which nodes are running the game servers. But, as you might imagine, this leaves little incentive to play the game or run a Town Star Node!

Now, of course, Gala Games wants to spin this as a positive for the game. And certainly, they deserve credit for recognizing a problem and taking the steps needed to stop the bleeding. As painful as they might be. But it’s still not a good look. Especially for a company with a dozen games in development and only one (Town Star) actually released.

With new TOWN token emissions dropping to zero, you may think this would help to relieve some of the selling pressure. But, without the play to earn potential, player’s interest in spending TOWN decreases as well. The team says that they are considering introducing a burn mechanic for TOWN. This would allow players to purchase special NFTs with TOWN tokens, but have the spent tokens sent to a burn address rather than kept by the system.

But it’s more than just the economy that’s the problem. Apparently, Town Star runs a client authoritative model. This means those with the tools and knowledge can hack the game pretty easily and send false data back to the servers. That’s really not good for a competitive game with cash-equivalent rewards! And so, Town Star is being rebuilt with a new game system called Godot. Godot not only moves game verification to the servers but also allows the team to implement updates at a quicker pace.

We have no timeline on when the Town Star economy might return. But with a game engine switch and a major overhaul to the entire game economy, I can’t imagine it will be a quick fix. The Gala team is also going to want to make sure that they get things right with Town Star 2.0.

A little late for its name, “June Mayhem,” this Town Crush Challenge was launched on July 1st and will end on July 8th at 12 pm PT. As of press time, you still have a few days to catch up and breeze through all 12 levels, especially if you use extra hearts (lives) or get help from the handy Town Crush Eggsecutioners.

To get extra lives, you may buy yourself some Bag o’ Stars using TOWN tokens. You can then use the stars to purchase extra hearts and not wait for them to recharge at one heart every 5 minutes. You can get going with the game and win ASAP.

If you wish to complete a Town Crush level even faster, you can also get two additional Eggsecutioners per round. The way to do this is to purchase an Egg Storage building NFT from Town Star. By owning one Egg Storage NFT, you can get those extra Eggsecutioners and crush your way to victory.

Gala Gold Requirement

Once the challenge ends, the massive $400,000 GALA reward pool will then be shared by all Gala Gold members who complete all 12 levels of Town Crush. If participants bought Egg Storage NFTs during the challenge, this reward pool would have grown. For each Egg Storage building sold, Gala Games is adding $50 to the GALA reward pool.

If you’re not yet a Gala Gold member, you can play Town Crush first with all your might, and then when you win before July 8th, you can pay $50 for a lifetime Gala Gold membership. That way, you would have secured your win first. Your Gala Gold membership would be worth it since, by then, you’d already be qualified to share in the $400k+ rewards anyway. What is Town Crush?

Town Crush by Gala Games is a “match-three” game just like Candy Crush. You need to match items such as fruits, crops, equipment, and buildings, which, by the way, are game items you can find in Town Star. The more matches you make along with low turns, the higher points you will receive. Currently, the game has 12 levels.

Gala Games first created Town Crush to test the new blockchain Gala has been creating: Project GYRI. By playing Town Crush—and therefore helping Gala Games find bugs and fix issues—you can earn the on-chain TEST token. You can spend these TEST tokens on lives and bombs that allow you to complete levels faster, but you cannot transfer or sell them.

Town Crush is free to play and is accessible to all Gala users. If you haven’t yet, you only need to create a Gala account, and then you can start playing Town Crush. Previously, Town Crush also had a May Mayhem challenge, with rewards that were also exclusive to Gala Gold members. If you plan to join any other Town Crush challenges in the future, you might want to consider purchasing a Gala Gold membership.

What is Gala Gold and what are the benefits?

Gala Gold is an update to your Gala Games account that gives you many perks. The lifetime membership only costs $50 for now but this might change in the future.

The Superior NFT airdrop

If you haven’t heard of Superior yet, check out our preview article here. To make it short, Superior is a rogue-lite game developed by Drifter Studio. In Superior, you will make runs and fight evil superheroes. As you progress in your run, you will gain your defeated enemies’ powers. The game was available for test to Gala Gold members before anyone else!

If you get your Gala Gold membership before April 14th, you will be airdropped a beautiful golden plasma rifle skin. The NFT will be airdropped after the Superior Ronin Prime Sale taking place on the 14th. This NFT will not be dropped retroactively, so make sure to sign up before the end of the sale!

Snoop Dogg in Town Star? I have to say that I did not see this coming. Especially after his recent collaboration with Sandbox. But Snoop seems to be all-in on the worlds of NFTs and blockchains. Gala Games announced two collaborations with the famous rap artist. One involves Gala’s new division, Gala Music. The other sees special Snoop Dogg NFTs land in Town Star!

Gala Music and Snoop Dogg

Gala Music is a new venture from Gala Games. It involves music NFTs, streaming, and distributed earnings. We’re still waiting on more details about how Gala Music will function. We do know it will use a distributed node system like Town Star. There will be also some sort of profit sharing system between the node owners, NFT owners, streamers, listeners, and the musicians! This just seems like the everyone is getting paid, which can’t really work for a long-term plan. But I’ll wait for more information before passing judgement. The NFT market is a great space for music and musicians and I’m glad to see more music-oriented projects.

Up for sale is Snoop’s Stash Box. What’s in this Stash Box? Limited to 25,000, Snoop’s Stash Box promises more than just music. First off, each box does contain music — one of the 17 tracks from Snoop’s new album, Bacc on Death Row. Additionally, the NFT description mentions exclusive drops, unique concert attendance opportunities, and the potential for earning on the Gala Music network. The team promises future rewards, uses, and benefits from the Stash Box. They refer to this as a “lifetime membership in an elite club”.

For anyone who manages to collect all 17 tracks, they get a chance to become Snoop’s best friend! OK, not really, but it does potentially include BBQs at Snoop’s house (no, that’s not a joke!) Aside from the possibility of grilling up some tasty food and chillin’ with Snoop, full album ownership includes invitations to private parties and concerts, some bling in the form of a limited edition, custom, commemorative chain, and ongoing VIP benefits in the Gala ecosystem.

Sounds pretty good, right! So what will a Stash Box cost you? $5,000, payable only in GALA tokens. Not cheap. But, if you consider the potential future benefits from the Gala system, it may be worth an investment. The sale ends on Feb 14th. This will be the one and only time to purchase this Stash Box.

Also, as a side note, everyone who bought a Stash Box during the first hour received this special Spider Tank. I have to say I’m kind of jealous of that tank!

Snoop Doog and Town Star

Snoop brings three new items to the Town Star store. The Gala Turntable, the ‘Epic Stylin Ride’, and the ‘Legendary Stylin Ride’. These are all to commemorate the launch of Gala Music. To bolster the token usage, the Rides are both sold only for Town Star tokens on the official market. New batches of the NFTS are released regularly, so if something is sold out, there is a chance it might appear again. Otherwise, you can always check the secondary markets for sold out items.

All three of these special NFTs provide passive benefits in-game. The Turntable provides Water, while the rides provide Iron. Though these NFTs are not yet available for use, we’re told that their implementation into the game will be ‘soon’.
