The most played crypto farming game is close to another massive update. Wearables, new materials, limited energy, and land expansion are just some features that will be added to Sunflower Land. The roadmap was also updated to reflect all the changes the team will bring to the project.

So far every player has the same amount of space and the same layout to build his farm on. But that will change with the upcoming updates. Besides having to decide which crops to plant or which animals to raise, farmers will also have to manage their farm’s layout and limited space. This update will bring Sunflower Land closer to the typical farming game where there is more freedom in choosing where and what to build.

All of this will be possible in the Sunflower Isles, the new area of Sunflower Land where every player will begin their journey. After getting to a certain level it will be possible to expand to an island.

Sunflower Isles
Sunflower Isles

Another feature that will change the way Sunflower Land is played is wearables. Every player will have a Bumpkin NFT that can be equipped with SFT (Semi Fungible Tokens) like hats or pants. Besides this, each bumpkin will also have energy and a level, and by feeding the Bumpkin its level will increase.

Like this, Sunflower Land will get closer to the RPG genre, and there will be more diversity regarding possible farming strategies.

Bumpkin NFT

Players can already mint their Bumpkins and equip them with some of the SFTs available on the bumpkins.io website or on OpenSea. The bonuses this equipment provides will not have an effect on players’ current farms, but these items have a limited supply, so it could be wise to mint the Bumpkin and gear it up in preparation for the upcoming update.

What is coming to Sunflower Land?

Last but not least, there will be new activities like fishing and beekeeping. Bellow, there is a list of everything that will be implemented in Sunflower Land’s Metaverse accordingly to their roadmap:

  • NFT Land Generation
  • Land Customisation
  • Random Resource Generation
  • Land Expansion
  • Construct Buildings
  • Move and place SFTs
  • Bonus Buildings – Tent, Markets, Water Well
  • Decorations
  • Bonus resources
  • Level gated islands
  • Mint Bumpkin NFT (free for Sunflower Land players)
  • SFT Collection
  • Art Design
  • Dynamic Profile Picture Image Generator
  • Website
  • Shopfront for collection
  • Soul-bound SFTs – potions, hair, items. Burn on application
  • Equip and send items to your Bumpkin NFT
  • Load and use equipment in the Sunflower Land game
  • Community Art Contributions
  • Cooking
  • Stamina replenish algorithm
  • Feeding Bumpkin
  • Skill System
  • Achievements
  • Fishing
  • Honey / Bees
  • Social Farming
  • Guilds

What is Sunflower Land?

Sunflower Land is, right now, the most popular crypto farming game. Players start with just a small land space available and, by feeding goblins with their favorite dishes, more land space will become available. Eventually, there will also be the option to grow animals, like chickens and cows, and to harvest other resources like wood and iron.

Then, players can sell crops for $SFL, use them as ingredients in dishes, and mint NFTs, while all the other in-game resources’ utility is to mint NFTs. These NFTs can provide in-game bonuses like a higher yield when selling crops or can be sold to other players in secondary markets for a profit.

The team also released the war feature, where players can provide various materials and sometimes $SFL to get War Bonds, which can then later be used to buy NFTs.

Personally, I like the game and its retro graphics, but I also think that as it is, Sunflower Land is not sustainable in the long term. Hopefully, this will change with new features like the energy system, more sinks for $SFL, and for all the in-game resources. Nevertheless, the team is doing a great job and, consequently, Sunflower Land has now one of the largest communities in NFT Gaming.

After a successful relaunch, we decided to bring to you a video review of Sunflower Land, the Polygon-based farming simulator. Bruno put on his boots and farmer hats and went around his farm to grow crops and chase goblins. Here is his report!

To this day, Sunflower Land is still the most played game on the Polygon network. All the features are not yet released, but the development team is very active and brings updates on a regular basis. If you want to read more about the game’s tokenomics and NFTs, read our previous article below.

Polygon holds its position as the fastest-growing Ethereum sidechain, and games built on the chain now boast an average of 68k active players daily.

In the past 30 days, four games took the lead in terms of new users acquired: Sunflower Land (38.43%), Crazy Defense Heroes (30.42%), Pegaxy (16.31%), and Arc8 (11.37%). These four titles make up 95.63% of the new users on Polygon-based games.

GameFi data Polygon

Falling short of 22k daily active users, Sunflower Land is by far the most played games of the chunk. Arc8 has a total of 17k daily players, but is not acquiring new ones fast enough. CDH is a long-lasting Animoca success with 9k daily users, similar to Pegaxy.

1. Sunflower Land

Sunflower Land

Sunflower Land is a Play to Own farming simulator, where players gain perks and benefits by watering plants, growing crops, feeding animals, and overall running a proficient farm. The game is part of a new trend shifting away from the term “Play to Earn” for “Play and Earn” and/or “Play to Own”.

The tokenomics features $SFL, currently valued at $0.16, down 15% in the last 24 hours. The token is in a freefall after the recent crypto crash of May 2022.

According to DappRadar, Sunflower Land totalled $160k+ in transactions in the past 30 days, coming from 784k transactions overall, estimating the average value per transaction a little over $0.20. We recently analysed why Sunflower Land is the biggest hit on Polygon here.

2. Crazy Defense Heroes

crazy defense heroes character artwork

Crazy Defense Heroes is an RPG-style tower defense game based on collectible cards, chests, and rewards.

Players have to defend the towers, take part in weekly challenges, defeat bosses, and create clans. There are over 400 Towers, spells, and collectible cards with 1000 levels to conquer.

The game is one of the fastest-growing recently thanks to their Tower Map NFT Rewards. According to Footprint Analytics, the total number of gamers as of the 25th of May is 542,169. The acquisition cohort chart shows a 45% retention in the latest quarter, not an amazing result.

Crazy Defense Heroes features the $TOWER token, currently valued at $0.005, down 8.15% in the last 24 hours and in a downfall trend since the beginning of the year.

CDH is not doing well financially, but it keeps being one of the most downloaded apps and has the full backing of Animoca Brands, which recently became a unicorn.

3. Pegaxy

Pegaxy Video Review

Pegaxy is a PvP horse racing simulator which offers several horse races, each with 12 horses running, with the top 3 horses receiving prizes in the game reward token $VIS.

The horse races are mostly decided on luck, but some other factors such as the horse’s gene and rarity play a role in the calculation.

The tokenomics features $VIS, to balance the minting cost, breed horses, and manage in-game rewards, and $PGX, the governance token, also used for breeding, and to get involved in the proposal engine.

$PGX is currently valued at $0.03, up 0.48% in the past 24 hours, and $VIS sits at $0.0003, down 1.24% in the same timeframe.

Pegaxy has the highest retention rate of all games on Polygon. According to Footprint, the peak was 77% of new players retained in Q1 2022.

To keep players’ engagement high, Pegaxy released an annual event: The Big Sprint Championship.

The cup is held once a year, with the first 11 months being the qualifying month. The top 12 players in each of the five levels (renting, marketplace, racing, breeding, and connect) are selected each month, drawing a pool of 660 players per year into the global finals.

The winner of the final round is rewarded with a large amount of $PGX Token distributed by the Ecosystem Fund.

4. Arc8

banner-faq-arc8

Launched in October 2021, Arc8 is GAMEE’s collection of mobile games on the Polygon chain. The platform is host to over 10 minigames, ranging from puzzle games to action movies, and is fairly popular amongst casual gamers on mobile devices.

On each given day, the platform releases daily tournaments for players to get involved in. Some are free, requiring only the in-game points, some require a participation fee, paid out in $GMEE.

During the gameplay, players might win $GMEE for completing quests for free, or may gamble in the daily tournaments to receive a higher amount.

$GMEE is the governance token, and is currently valued at $0.018, down 4.27% in the past 24 hours. The token is on a downfall trend after the game failed to maintain a fast-paced growth, with daily active users decreasing rapidly.

According to Footprint, less than 18% of new users stick around. It’s worth noticing that, given the nature of a platform hosting tons of minigames, they are the games with the most trades!

DappRadar reports 1.98M transactions in the past 30 days, down only 0.81% from last month. Arc8 is working hard to keep the number high and attract new players with great incentives through their referral program.

In Conclusion

Now that the Play to Earn model is popular enough to attract giants like Netmarble to consider it (have you seen Ni no KuNi?)analytical platforms are popping out and will help you analyze current trends. Thanks to the data from Footprint Analytics, you can make informed decisions on which games to get involved with next.

Right now, it looks like the Polygon landscape will change quite soon if these games can’t manage to get their acquisition rates to improve. If you’re interested in checking out the GameFi current trends, take a look at the GameFi report from Q1 2022.

From the ashes, the sunflowers shall rise again! Or something like that. Not long ago, we had a game called Sunflower Farmers, perhaps best known for bringing the Polygon network to a standstill. But that game is now closed. And in its place, we have a new, more blockchain-friendly version called Sunflower Land. Let’s take a first look at this game about farming and crafting.

With an open beta launched in April of 2022, Sunflower Land has the same look and feel as its parent game, Sunflower Farmers. However, the dev team learned some important lessons and built the game to run mostly off-chain, while still allowing players to buy, sell, and trade NFTs and resources on-chain. Getting started in Sunflower Land costs 10 Matic, 10% of which goes to one of two charities of your choice. In return for the 10 MATIC, you receive your very own farm NFT.

The game is limited to one farm per person — no multi-accounting. And while you can hold multiple farms in your wallet, you are only allowed to play on one farm

Sunflower Land Gameplay

Sunflower Land screenshot
Sunflower Land

Appropriately enough, the game begins with harvesting sunflowers. From that sale, you buy sunflower seeds to grow more sunflowers to harvest and sell for more seeds. I think you can figure out where it goes from there. The game features a number of crops. Once you start growing pumpkins, the first recipe in the kitchen opens up. Besides the kitchen there is also a crafting spot for making tools, trees to harvest for wood, gold, and ore to mine, and a dangerous Goblin Village that sells goods found nowhere else. The game includes a large swath of ‘foggy’ areas, leaving plenty of room for future expansions. These areas open up with Land Expansion NFTs (not yet released).

And while the game is limited to crops at the moment, farm animals such as chickens and sheep are coming soon.

It is very much possible to bootstrap yourself up through the game. But those who are impatient can just purchase SFL tokens directly and skip some of the tedium. However, some of the game content is gated by in-game quests, so even with all the tokens in the world, you’ll still need to play the game a bit. Also, players gain experience from performing in-game actions. Every five levels they get a new skill which provides a bonus for farming or crafting.

Sunflower Land includes an in-game harvesting portal for those who contribute to the SFL / Matic liquidity pool on Quickswap. Pool contributors can visit the Wishing Well in the Goblin Village to retrieve their token earnings once every three days.

All game progress is saved on a central server. But if you want to make sure your game NFTs and tokens are safe from trips to Goblin Village (sometimes Goblins steal stuff), you’ll need to sync them to the blockchain. You will also need to sync if you want to sell any NFTs or resources from the game.

Sunflower Land Tokenomics

The Sunflower Land token (SFL) is the only game token in Sunflower Land.

Sunflower Land Season One items
a few season one items

With most of these sorts of games, token devaluation becomes a major problem. Sunflower Land seeks to counter this in two ways. One, there just isn’t a lot of token creation to begin with. The coin generated from selling items and resources only slightly outweighs the cost invested in creating them in the first place. Also, the amount of SFL paid out for crops changes based on how much total SFL is circulating. The more SFL available, the smaller the in-game payouts. They refer to this as halvening events. The game has already been through several, with the next slated to happen once the token supply passes 20 million (the current supply is around 11 million). Any tokens used for crafting are burned.

This seems like it would discourage players, but the SFL token isn’t really the play to earn part of the game. Instead, that would be the special, seasonal, limited edition NFTs. Some are decorative only. Others provide in-game bonuses. All of them cost SFL tokens, and often a sizable number of game resources as well. The hope here is that other players will value these NFTs and be willing to purchase them from those who spend the time needed to acquire them.

There is also the possibility of selling resources on secondary markets, but with the generally low prices and the need to pay fees to sync to the blockchain, that doesn’t seem an especially profitable venture.

Closing Thoughts

Will Sunflower Land be able to succeed where its predecessor did not? Well, for starters, by keeping the data off-chain until synced by the player, they’ve already passed that hurdle! Will it be a long-term sustainable game model? Hard to say. I was never much of a fan of this sort of farming game, myself. But that hasn’t kept millions of others from playing Farmville — and often paying for the privilege of doing so! So, as long as the team can keep pushing out additional content to keep people interested, and continue to draw in new players, they should be able to get something going here. And the limited, seasonal items are already a strong step in the right direction.

April showers us with quite a few events and releases in the play to earn, blockchain gaming world. We have launches, mints, alphas, and even an IDO! Read on for more info and important dates in this April 2022 edition of games to watch!

2021 saw a significant rise in the gaming scene and an explosion of speculation, much of which pushed gaming tokens and NFTs to all-time highs last spring. But much of that hopeful adulation, has died down, as most of these games have had not much to show and even less to actually play. But that is about to change in a significant way in 2022. And April is just a sign of what’s to come. We have a lot to cover, so let’s get too it!

Axie Infinity Origin Launch

Long the biggest name in blockchain gaming, and play to earn in particular, Axie is near to releasing a major overhaul of their game. Known as Origin, this release brings a slew of new abilities, a revamped combat system, and a new free to play system.

Delayed due to a recent hack on their Ronin chain, expect to be able to play Axie Origin on April 7th.

Three launchpads, Liquidifty, Gamefi, and Trustpad will all provide opportunities for users to get in on the initial token price of $0.01. Drunk Robots and its tokens live on the Binance Chain.

Read more about the Drunk Robots IDO here.

Sunflower Land Launch

Notorious for bringing the Polygon network to a crawl, Sunflower Farmers is relaunching and rebranding as Sunflower Land. Their contracts have all been rewritten to close coding loopholes and try and discourage botting. The new game will begin with a slow rollout, adding new features over time. Expect to see the initial launch on April 7th.

Read more about Sunflower Land here.

Genesis Worlds brings us their next set of Mining Claims. Each Mining Claim issues daily GENESIS tokens and runs on a bonding curve, meaning that cost for new Claims increases as more are purchased. This release sees five new worlds opened, with the first, Xoth, on April 7th, and the other four the following week. Mining claims must be purchased with GAME tokens.

Read more about the next Genesis Worlds Mining Claims here.

Solana NFTs on OpenSea

OpenSea banner

Pretty much any Solana game should be worth looking at now that OpenSea has announced their intentions to support Solana NFTs starting in April. Any move by the biggest NFT market is sure to bring additional notice. No official launch date, but the technology and partnerships are already in place, so we expect an announcement very soon.

Tiny Colony Mint

tiny colony

Speak of Solana, the ant-themed game, Tiny Colony, is launching their character mint there on April 28th. Unlike other 10k projects, players get some control over the ant person. Minters can choose from nine different factions at mint time. From Hero to Scientist to Samurai! Tiny Colony already had their Nest sale, and Nest owners receive Whitelist spots for the Character mint. Other folks have to complete some basic tasks in a Gleam contest to vie for a spot.

Learn more about Tiny Colony and the upcoming mint here.

Metwana Mint and Launch

Metawana

Mint Baby Buds, on… you guessed it, April 7th! Metwana promises some sort of hybrid fusion of farming simulator and creature battler with a 420-themed style. The mint will be on the Fractal marketplace on Solana. The initial mint cost was supposed to be 2 SOL for the whitelist mint, and 2.5 SOL for the public sale, but, given the recent market rally, the team decided to review the pricing. It will be 1.25 SOL for the WL sale and 1.69 for the public sale…

Check out our article about Metawana and take part in our Whitelist token giveaway ! 10 Metawana Whitelist tokens to win.

Green Rabbit Racing Launch

April launch party for Green Rabbit

Green Rabbit has steadily assembled a complex crafting ecosystem over the past year. And though the final fruits of that labor are still around the corner, we do have the first looks at the 3D world of Green Rabbit, including their social hub and free 3D, practice racing! This is supposed to go live at 11pm PST on March 31st. We don’t have a lot of details yet, but once it’s up we’ll get all the important info to you. Green Rabbit runs on the WAX blockchain.

The creators of the hit farming sim Sunflower Farmers will be launching the open beta on April 7th under the new name Sunflower Land. The problems that plagued them in January and led to the temporary shutdown of the game have been addressed in this new version.

Sunflower Farmers Put on Pause

The game, originally called Sunflower Farmers, had to be taken offline in early January due to a combination of explosive growth and bad faith actors exploiting the system.  The game went viral, and while there were a lot of new players joining the game, people also started using bots to game the system.

This led to high congestion and soaring Gas fees that nearly took down the polygon network.  You can read more about that here.  When the team realized the extent to which bots were exploiting the game and altering the experience for actual players, they made the decision to take the game offline.

This was a necessary step as the code couldn’t bel altered without taking the game offline.  When Sunflower Farmers was originally released, it was posted online in a way that prevented them from altering the code.  The lead developer believes strongly in decentralization, and didn’t think that programmers should be able to mess with the code.

Many Changes to Look Forward To

In the roughly four months it’s been offline, there have been many changes and improvements, both in terms of content, and behind the scenes functionality.  They have closed all of the loopholes and vulnerabilities that they found before, and have altered some of the mechanics of the game to discourage bot usage.  They’ve also implemented features to help stabilize the game and try to encourage long terms playing.  There’s also going to be expanded content and lore.

Goblins have moved into Sunflower Land

They began a closed beta to test the improvements around February 18th, and have been slowly adding spots since then.

Staggered Rollout

The developers of the newly renamed Sunflower Land will be utilizing a staggered rollout of the open beta, which begins April 7th.  That’s the day anyone can mint their farm and start playing.  Not all features/aspects of Sunflower Land will be available at that time, with more of it being released every 7 days.

In the current beta, crafting NFT is still not possible. The team is fine tuning the game mechanics and the game’s economy in order to offer a sustainable economy for all. The new SFL token will be launched in April, shortly after the open beta release.

Sunflower Land closed beta

It is worth noting that while there aren’t any restrictions at that point on who can join April 7th, there is a restriction on how many can play, with a cap of 100,000 players.

If you want to be sure to get one of the spots, join their Discord server ahead of the launch, and make sure you get the farmer role (basically, complete all the intro/verification stuff).  Those on Discord will be the first to be let in.

For more in depth informations about Sunflower Land, have a read at the project’s documentation here.

Can Sunflower Land Succeed?

While it hard to tell at this stage if the game’s economy will be sustainable, we can see that the team is aware of the problems of the previous version and is trying to solve them. Sunflower Farmers got huge traction when it launched, so we can expect many players flocking in this new version of the game. The team is particularly attentive at the value extraction form the game and is building game mechanics to incentive players to reinvest in the game’s economy rather than just farm tokens and NFTs to dump them on the open market. But again, only time will tell if the team’s strategy will pay off and if the game won’t be, again, a victim of its own success.

What is Sunflower Land?

Sunflower Land is a Play to Earn farming sim on the Polygon chain, although they prefer the term Plan and Own, to try to shift from an extraction mindset to a long-term play mindset.  You mint a digital farm and harvest crops, tend to animals, and mint tools and cool items.  Players can buy and sell all of these using the SFL token, the native token of Sunflower Land.

Sunflower Farmers, a farming play-to-earn game, recently launched on the polygon network and have since surpassed and failed expectations at the same time.  It’s common for users to complain about high Ethereum gas fees. But it’s almost an anomaly to hear users cry out about high gas fees or network congestion on the Polygon network.

Sunflower Farmers Causes Congestion on the Polygon Network

Recently, users of the Polygon network sent complaints on gas fees and transaction delays on the polygon network. The problem was later traced to the Sunflower Farmers game, which experienced many users trying to partake and earn rewards.

On January 6th, Wu blockchain reportedstated that the NFT gaming space was gulping well above 40% of the Polygon network’s gas. Sunflower Farmers had 281,062 holders at that time, while the top holder with 850,045.345498411066728381 SFF tokens was zapping the most significant portion of the network’s gas.

Gas Fees peak on January 6th

The tokenomics of the Sunflower Farmers game are designed so that as more people join the game, the overall supply increases, and the rewards decrease.

This means that someone playing in the early days will receive significantly more rewards for harvesting a sunflower than late joiners. This scheme led to high participation, which attacked the Polygon network.

Sunflower Farmers had over 459K users last week, according to DappRadar. They ranked second during that same period, just behind Splinterlands’ 514K users. This is a large number of users, and it is reported that the majority of them are bots. In the race to earn more rewards, bots are used to create random accounts controlled programmatically to earn more rewards. Also, the project developers deemed it fit to store the history of each player’s game on the network every 25 minutes. All these led to congestion on the Polygon network and a peak in transaction fees.

Current Status

The Sunflower Farmers project has released a statement on their website, which reads:

What started as a side project by a group of friends ended up becoming something we never could have anticipated.

It grew so quickly and unfortunately, the game was abused by malicious actors to the point where it was difficult for people to play. Now that we have this amazing community, we feel it is our duty to build a game that will be sustainable for the years to come. In order to do so, we are in the progress of making some much-needed upgrades.

Amongst these upgrades include anti-botting mechanisms, efficient gas prices, secure smart contracts, and of course, more gameplay.

It is understood that the team has realized and noted the loopholes in the project and is working towards building something better. According to further reports found on their website, a new contract will be released in which all tokens and items collected in the game will be transferred into the new Sunflower Land ecosystem. Snapshot has been taken, and all data will be transferred when the new contract is released.

The game has now been put in maintenance mode until the team fixes the issues. The game will be relaunched under the name Sunflower Land. You can read more about the future roadmap here.

The Sunflower Farmers streamed an AMA session on January 7th to address the current state of the game and to address the future of the project.

Many traders, crypto investors, and developers have switched to Polygon to escape the gruesome gas fees on the Ethereum network. It would thus be interesting to see how this eventually pans out. If the Polygon network increasingly gets stormed by more gas gulping games such as Sunflower Farmers, it could sabotage their current reputation as a gas fee-friendly blockchain for users.

What is Sunflower Farmers?

Sunflower Farmers is a Play-to-Earn NFT farming game launched on the polygon network. In the quest for building farming empires in the game, players are required to plant, mine, craft, fish, fight, and perform more tasks.

Players can earn Sunflower Farm tokens by planting and harvesting crops. For example, you can purchase sunflower seeds for $0.0002 SFF, harvest them, and sell them for $0.0004 SFF. Not just sunflowers, but potatoes, pumpkin, cauliflower, radish, and other vegetables, are available for farming. SFF is the native token of the Sunflower Farmers project.
