If you have stepped away from Spider Tanks or never even tried the game, May is a good month to jump back in. The May Mayhem event brings four weeks of rewards for players, simply for playing the game and winning!

May Mayhem is basically an incentive program to generate more player activity and bring some attention to the game. For this year’s event, Spider Tanks will run weekly events, Tuesday through Sunday, with 4 tiers of rewards available each week. Reaching the first tier requires at least 10 wins during the week, while tier 4 requires at least 70 wins. Each tier receives a guaranteed supply of components and Arachnium (the Spider Tanks in-game currency). Players also earn tickets for a weekly raffle that rewards Tank Parts to the winners.

We have the details for the rewards during the first week, but the Spider Tanks team is keeping details about future weeks under wraps. There will likely also be other giveaways and events during the month. Be sure to keep an eye on the Spider Tanks social channels for updates.

Recent New Features

The Spider Tanks team has been busy updating their game and adding new features. One of those new features is custom contracts. These allow tank owners to create a rental contract for a specific pilot and specify the reward split. Owners can also set a minimum ELO for renters in case they only want qualified pilots driving their tanks.

Spider Tanks has added daily and weekly missions, as well as ongoing login rewards. Completing these missions rewards players with components they can use in their garage. In addition, based on player feedback, they have increased the prep time before matches, giving players a little longer to get setup and choose their abilities.

Also, Spider Tanks recently made some major adjustments to their economy — mainly in the form of SILK distribution. In short, the main change is that the SILK distribution to players, map owners, and node owners now all comes out of a shared pool. For those who don’t own any tanks or parts, Spider Tanks does include a rental system. And finally, each Player can pick two Abilities for their Tank before a match. Abilities take Energy to use and have cooldowns before they can be used again. Abilities include effects like Shields, Healing, Slows, etc.

Matches are usually pretty quick. Tanks don’t gain levels or stats during a game. It’s all about going in with the right setup and achieving the match goals for your team. Players earn Victory Points while playing, which automatically convert to SILK tokens at the end of the day.

Spider Tanks keeps getting better and better as they bring a new patch to their playerbase, and also introduce the first of the Gen2 tanks!

These Gen2 tank parts will be cheaper than Gen1, but they all start at level 0. Once upgraded, Gen2 tank parts will be equally as capable as Gen1 parts and generate the same amount of Victory Points. It will just require a bit more effort and resources to fully upgrade them.

Players will be able to purchase Gen2 tank parts with GALA, SILK, or ETH tokens. The NFTs will be delivered on GYRI, the Gala Games network. Common parts will not be available for sale. The team promises to explain how Common parts can be acquired in the near future.

The first Generation 2 tank, is called the Shaman and the new Shaman tank parts are already available for purchase in the Gala Store. Players are free to mix and match parts when customizing their tanks.

The Shaman features a Railgun weapon and a Crab body. Railguns fire a single, high-powered shot. It can be charged for extra damage, but while charging up, the tank is slowed down. The Crab body offers extra armor with balanced speed and energy charge rates. The Craggy skin and Captain’s Hat provide small, general bonuses.

The next Gen2 tanks in the pipeline are the Cleric and the Warrior, though we don’t have details about their parts yet.

Game Updates

Patch 1.1.1 for Spider Tanks brings a wide selection of bug fixes and balancing changes. You can read an overview of the changes here, with the full patch notes available on their Discord server.

This patch also introduces updates to the arenas, with more destructible environmental objects, and marks left on the battlefield during matches by explosions, showing areas of heavy combat. But probably the biggest change is the ability to select your tank abilities in the match up screen before the game starts. This allows players to customize their tank abilities on the fly, making snap decisions based on the makeup of their own team and their opponents. This change should greatly increase the strategy involved, as players are no longer locked into whatever they chose before even joining the queue.

The Spider Tanks team promises that this patch is just the start and to expect many more big things for Spider Tanks over the coming months!

The GALA title, Spider Tanks, recently introduced the $SILK token. When a player who owns an NFT tank wins a match he is rewarded with $SILK, putting this game into the play-and-earn category. But, in web3 gaming, we have seen several titles’ economies falling because of players cashing out and taking liquidity out of these ecosystems. The Spider Tanks’ team wants to avoid this at all costs and for that, they introduced the Honor System.

The Honor System’s main purpose is to avoid massive cashouts. Those who seek to just remove $SILK from the ecosystem to dump it on exchanges will lose honor points which will result in those players not getting the full amount of Victory Points after each win.

Honor goes from 0 to 1,200. A player who has 900 Honor will only get 75% of Victory Points after winning a match. Victory Points are exchanged by $SILK at the end of the day. So, those who have low Honor will have a hard time farming $SILK. Low honor can be recovered and high honor can be lost either by performing honorable or dishonorable actions.

Honorable, Negative and Redeeming Actions

Spider Tanks considers as honorable actions:

• Playing Spider Tanks daily and winning. The amount of Honor points depends on the highest level of Tank or Part used.
• Running a Spider Tanks planetary node increases Honor by 6 every day.
• Bridging-in $SILK from Ethereum to Project GYRI. For every 100 $SILK bridged-in players will get 2.4 Honor up to a maximum of 240 Honor.

Spider Tanks considers as negative actions:

• Bridging-out $SILK from Project GYRI to Ethereum. The amount of lost Honor will depend on the % of $SILK bridged out. For example, if a player with 1,000 $SILK bridges out 500 $SILK, then he will lose 50% of his honor points. For players with a high amount of $SILK, the honor loss will be based on a flat rate of 20% per 10,000 $SILK bridged out.
• Sending $SILK to another Project GYRI wallet

Last but not least, Spider Tanks considers as Redeeming Actions:

• Spending $SILK in the Gala Games Store. If a player bridges out 50% of his $SILK tokens and purchases an NFT with 40% of those $SILK tokens, then he will only lose 10% of honor. All $SILK spent on the store will not have a negative impact on honor. The bridged-out $SILK will have to be spent on the same day to avoid an honor loss.

Last Thoughts

Spider Tanks came up with an innovative idea to avoid its NFTs and tokens losing all their value. If the Honor System works out I believe we will see many other projects in the industry adopting a similar strategy to maintain a healthy economy. So far $SILK is holding a healthy price of 0.8 USD and their ‘play-and-earn’ system started around 2 months ago. This could be an indicator that the team’s strategy is working.

Nevertheless, at the core of every sustainable and healthy economy is a fun game. Without a fun game, the only reason people will spend time in that ecosystem is to remove liquidity from it. That is also not a problem for Spider Tanks which has engaging gameplay that will hook players for hours to their screens.

The task for day two (starting December 19th) is much simpler. The first 5,000 Coinbase Wallet users who connect to Pixels receive a special mystery box. On December 20th the partner is Mobox and the task will likely involve interaction with the Momoverse. Users who complete the assigned game quests can earn Mobox avatars and MOMO NFTs.

Next up, its MOBA time with Spider Tanks! On December 21st, connecting your Coinbase wallet to Spider Tanks and playing a few matches will reward you with a Spider Tanks skin or Prop item.

And then Gaming Days winds down with the final event on December 22nd featuring Evaverse. Participants will need to register and then complete 50 Cosmic Cup races. Mist Pre-Alpha

Players have been waiting a while for Mist to open up their next game preview. And, at long last, news of a pre-alpha arrives. But, alas, this pre-alpha is only open to those with a heavy investment in Mist — requiring ownership of either a Tier 3+ NFT, or 100 thousand MIST tokens. Everyone else will have to wait for a later alpha or beta to try out this fantasy RPG.

Colonize Mars Closed Beta

Colonize Mars is ready to test and preview their colony development game. This closed beta test will feature construction, resource management, and community decision making as the players try to make a life for themselves on the cold, red planet!

War Park Community Playtest

War Park, a historical, tank-based MOBA style game brings us their first ever community playtest. Though this version is expected to be a bit rough and potentially buggy, the War Park team promises some fun gameplay. And with the game featuring tanks shooting up a destructible environment, I think they have a good foundation to start from!

Champions Ascension

Champions Ascension keeps appearing in these articles because they keep releasing new content! Their game previews, known as a Slice of Massina, are open for only a few hours a time, but occur several times a week at different times to allow for players from around the world to participate. Champions Ascension now includes four different mini-games, and an early version of their arena combat game!

Players can earn tickets from participating in any of the games. Use those tickets to buy Mystery Boxes with random items inside.

Star Atlas Sales

I have Star Atlas on this list not because of any upcoming alpha or beta, but because of their newly announced sales. Star Atlas lost access to approximately half of their development funds with the closure of FTX. And while there is hope that some of those funds may be returned, that likely won’t happen anytime soon. And so, Star Atlas announced not one, not two, but four upcoming sales. The biggest one (and currently active) is a ship sale that includes three Titan class ships, each one priced at $1 million dollars! And actually, they cost more now, as one week has passed and nobody purchased one. Which feels like a backwards pricing plan. If you couldn’t find a purchaser at 1 million, raising the price to 1.5 million doesn’t seem like the way to attract buyers.

Soon, Spider Tanks will close all sales for Generation 1 NFTs. They will never be sold again. Though some items sold in the future may be similar, any new Tank Parts added will be Generation 2, which are not quite the same as Generation 1.

Spider Tanks is free to play, but if players want to earn while playing, they’ll probably want to invest in Tanks and Tank Parts. Players earn Victory Points from winning matches, which converts to SILK tokens at the end of every day. The number of Victory Points a player can earn is based on their rank, the rarity and level of the Parts they used in the battle, and how many times those parts have already been used that day.

Tank Parts feature diminishing returns to encourage players to try out different builds. The curve is set so that each Part should receive about 95% of its potential VP for that day by the time it hits 20 wins. That Part can still earn Victory Points, but the numbers get increasingly smaller.

So what does this have to do with Generation 2 Parts? All generation 2 Tank Parts start at level 0. Generation 2 Tank Parts also have lower Victory Point Potential (VPP), decreasing their maximum earnings from winning matches. Players can still level up Generation 2 Tank Parts to increase their VPP values, but it will be more of a grind than with Gen 1 Parts.

We haven’t been given an official date for the end of sales for Gen 1 Parts, but I expect it to be soon. Head over the official Gala store to stock up!

November brings more alphas and beta updates. But perhaps the biggest news in the play-to-earn field of gaming is the official launch of Spider Tanks!

Spider Tanks

Spider tanks launched on October 31st. This is an official game launch for this tank-based MOBA. From now on, everything the players do in-game matters. Ranks will be gained and lost, SILK will be won, and Spider Tanks Node owners generate income by helping to host the matches.

Spider Tanks wants to build itself into a competitive, eSport game with ongoing, MMR rankings, regular tournaments, and a world cup finale every year to determine who is the best Spider Tanks team around! The game is free to play, though those who own their own Tanks and Weapons can earn more rewards.

Phantom Galaxies

In early November, Phantom Galaxies plans to launch a new event called Astrafite Rush. Only available to those who complete the first three missions, this event gives players a chance to mine asteroids for Astrafite, and earn ASTRAFER token in return. Players must own a Phantom Galaxies NFT to play, but the cheapest go for only a couple of dollars. Players pilot ships and mechs in this space-based, story-driven MMO.

Aurory Project

Aurory Project adds new play and earn leaderboards to their closed alpha. This turn-based, creature battling game also resent everyone’s MMR rating to provide a fresh start for everyone. This is just the first phase of this play and earn game, with plans to build out a larger world with dungeons to explore, land to own, and items to find. Aurory is free to play.

Champions Ascension

Champions Ascension has been regularly opening their servers for a few hours at a time in what they call, a Slice of Massina. These world previews, open to anyone holding a Champion NFT, allow players to use their NFT as their in-game avatar and participate in a number of in-world mini-games. Players earn tickets from winning games, and can then spend those tickets for special items.

The Champions Ascension team continues to release updates and new game activities as they build more of their world.

Mines of Dalarnia

Mines of Dalarnia just released a major patch titled Deeper Depths. With additional resources, items, creatures, and more, this patch offers something new for even the most veteran player. Mines of Dalarnia is also free to play.

Planetary Node operators can earn semi-passive income in the form of SILK tokens. By owning a Planetary Node license, running the Node software package, maintaining a connection to the Spider Tanks system, and making sure that your server is in the queue, Node operators can serve as hosts for the match, earning Victory Points every time. Once the match is completed, the Node goes back into the queue at the end of the line. Though Planetary Node owners do have the option of upgrading, allowing their system to occupy more than one slot in the queue. At the end of the day, everyone with Victory Points accumulated shares in SILK rewards from a common pool of tokens.

But the first requirement is owning a Planetary Node License.

Planetary Node License Sale and Release Date

The sale for Planetary Nodes began on August 29th, 2022. Prices started at $2,000 increasing by $100 for every 100 Nodes sold. The price maxes out at $5,000. As of the time of this article, nearly 2500 Nodes have been sold, with prices currently at just over 1.75 ETH.

Hang onto your Nodes! Well, maybe buy a Node, then hang onto it, because the official launch of Spider Tanks was announced. On October 31st, this MOBA style game about robot tanks battling over chickens releases.

This is significant for Gala Games as a whole. because while their portfolio of projects has grown immensely, they haven’t really released anything since Town Star, over two years ago! Will this play-and-earn, tank battling game be just the beginning of development releases on the Gala ecosystem? We shall see!

What is Spider Tanks?

Some are visual skins only, though others offer bonuses or a new tank ability. NFT items can be equipped at any time.

Spider Tanks is building a play-and-earn economy with tournaments, rentals, land ownership, component creation with Factories, and even climbing to the role of Emperor for an entire planet! Spider Tanks features a token called SILK. Players, map owners, and Planetary Node operators receive Victory Points throughout the day. At the end of the day, their SILK payout is based on their percentage of the total VPs accumulated by all players throughout the day.

One the hot, new things in blockchain gaming seems to be distributed server architecture. Gala Games has had their own nodes for a while, and recently began breaking them down even further, offering Gala Music nodes, as well as Town Star nodes. Splinterlands has gotten into the game too, with the first version of their validator nodes expected to arrive later this year. Now Spider Tanks is joining in on the action as well!

Spider Tanks Planetary Nodes

In short, you buy a node license, download and run the node software, and earn passive income. Nodes must be online for at least 6 hours a day to be eligible for rewards

Active nodes receive rewards for every match they are assigned. Nodes earn Victory Points for every match they host and share in the global SILK rewards at the end of the day.

When online, Planetary Nodes go into a queue. Once a Node reaches the front of the line, it will be chosen for the next match. Each basic node occupies only one slot in the queue, though the team has plans to implement node upgrades, allowing Nodes to occupy more than one slot. Maps will be able to upgrade for extra queue slots as well.

Nodes also have a Depot, where Node owners can place tank bodies, weapons, and map NFTs. Anytime a match hosted by the Node includes the paired NFTs, the owner earns additional rewards. Depots start with one space, but may be expanded as high as six.

Player owned Maps have their own queue. Players may own and use both Planetary Node and Maps.

Below are the anticipated initial specs for running a Planetary Node. The requirements may increase as the game grows larger. But for initial requirements, these seem pretty reasonable.

What is Spider Tanks?

Spider Tanks is a top-down, tank-based, MOBA. Built as part of the Gala Games ecosystem, Spider Tanks already offers a free-to-play beta for anyone with a Gala Games account. Two teams of five players battle across a variety of maps and game modes. (hint: If you see a chicken, it’s probably something important!)

All players have access to a free selection of equipment. This includes three different tank bodies, each with different stats, and a number of options for weapon and equipment load-outs. Spider Tanks isn’t all about shooting. There are also healing abilities, shields, invisibility cloaks, and airstrikes… just to name a few! The game offers a practice mode for new players or for trying out new builds. The free tank and weapons options change from day to day.

The game action is fluid and fast-paced. Simple on the surface, Spider Tanks features a lot of equipment options, even for free players. There is definitely potential for team coordination and tank synergy when playing with friends.

NFTs for Spider tanks come in a variety of types from tank bodies to weapons, to map pieces to factories. Many are limited editions and some are special collaborations (including Snoop Dogg tanks!). Some are visual skins only, though others offer bonuses or a new tank ability.

Spider Tanks is building a play and earn economy with tournaments, rentals, land ownership, component creation with Factories, and even climbing to the role of Emperor for an entire planet! The game token for Spider Tanks is called SILK. Players, map owners, and Planetary Node operators receive Victory Points throughout the day. At the end of the day, their SILK payout is based on their percentage of the total VPs accumulated by all players throughout the day.
