Getting access to Phase of Beta 2 for Phantom Galaxies requires owning one of several NFTs. Anyone who holds a ‘Planet Genesis Mintpass’, a ‘The Hopeful’ NFT, or a ‘Zorran’s Favour’ NFT should now have access to the beta. Players can download the game and retrieve their beta codes on the Phantom Galaxies website.

Unlike the alpha, this testing phase doesn’t include any promised rewards. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if the team hands out a badge or some other sort of proof of participation item. But even without rewards, the game is actually fun to play!

What’s New in Beta 2?

This beta brings a number of new features to this space-based, mech-combat, starship-piloting, RPG. Starfighters have seen an overhaul across the board with new abilities and updated visuals. We also have a new game system around Heat management when piloting a starship. As players maneuver and fight, their ship begins to heat up. Overheat, and the ship is destroyed. Players will need to keep an eye on their Heat levels during combat missions and know when to back off and cool down before re-engaging!

This beta phase starts everyone fresh from the beginning again. And though there are some changes, it’s a familiar experience for anyone who played in the alpha test. For those new to Phantom Galaxies, the game is very user friendly. The story-based plotline walks you through learning different parts of the game through a series of quests as it builds up the danger and adds more options for the players.

And for those are looking for a social scene, it is now possible to meet up with other players on Halberd-001, the starting space station. The first multiplayer hub in the game has already seen some activity. Hopefully this feature will continue to grow into an active hangout scene for the Phantom Galaxies playerbase.

Phantom Galaxies will soon bring a new NFT airdrop to their players and supporters. This airdrop consists of Catalyst NFTs that will play a role in upcoming mints.

Players will use Catalysts when minting Starfighters, Avatars, and Planets. All of these NFTs are generative, meaning that they will have some randomized traits when generated. However, players can influence these traits when minting by using a Phantom Catalyst. Phantom Catalysts will be specific to an NFT type — Starship, Avatar, or Planet.

Catalyst NFTs will be sent out to NFT holders based on the following list:

• The Hopeful — Avatar Gender Catalyst
• Zorran’s Favour — Rare Avatar Catalyst
• Planet Founders — Planet Catalyst (additional Rare Planet Catalyst for top Planet tiers)
• Complete Posters (Redeemed + Unredeemed) and Medals set — Rare Planet Catalyst
• AR Progress Tracker — Starfighter Catalyst
• AR Trophy — Rare Starfighter Catalyst

Players will be able to use one Catalyst during each mint process. The Gender Catalyst will let Avatar minters select the Gender. Other Catalysts will apply one specific trait to the newly generated NFT. These Catalysts can be bought, sold, and traded as well, so players can find the exact trait they want for their mints.

Mintpass creation opened earlier this year, with players able to create new passes with Medals, Posters, or ASTRAFER tokens earned during the alpha tests. Mintpasses can also be purchased on secondary markets. The NFTs generated in these mints are genesis/early adopter type items, and they all come with numerous benefits.

Mist Pre-Alpha

Players have been waiting a while for Mist to open up their next game preview. And, at long last, news of a pre-alpha arrives. But, alas, this pre-alpha is only open to those with a heavy investment in Mist — requiring ownership of either a Tier 3+ NFT, or 100 thousand MIST tokens. Everyone else will have to wait for a later alpha or beta to try out this fantasy RPG.

Colonize Mars Closed Beta

Colonize Mars is ready to test and preview their colony development game. This closed beta test will feature construction, resource management, and community decision making as the players try to make a life for themselves on the cold, red planet!

War Park Community Playtest

War Park, a historical, tank-based MOBA style game brings us their first ever community playtest. Though this version is expected to be a bit rough and potentially buggy, the War Park team promises some fun gameplay. And with the game featuring tanks shooting up a destructible environment, I think they have a good foundation to start from!

Champions Ascension

Champions Ascension keeps appearing in these articles because they keep releasing new content! Their game previews, known as a Slice of Massina, are open for only a few hours a time, but occur several times a week at different times to allow for players from around the world to participate. Champions Ascension now includes four different mini-games, and an early version of their arena combat game!

Players can earn tickets from participating in any of the games. Use those tickets to buy Mystery Boxes with random items inside.

Star Atlas Sales

I have Star Atlas on this list not because of any upcoming alpha or beta, but because of their newly announced sales. Star Atlas lost access to approximately half of their development funds with the closure of FTX. And while there is hope that some of those funds may be returned, that likely won’t happen anytime soon. And so, Star Atlas announced not one, not two, but four upcoming sales. The biggest one (and currently active) is a ship sale that includes three Titan class ships, each one priced at $1 million dollars! And actually, they cost more now, as one week has passed and nobody purchased one. Which feels like a backwards pricing plan. If you couldn’t find a purchaser at 1 million, raising the price to 1.5 million doesn’t seem like the way to attract buyers.

The Phantom Galaxies Proof of Experience NFT, called the Astrafite Rush: Progress Tracker, tracks a player’s progress through the event and records it onto the blockchain. This includes stats such as amount of Astrafite mined, number of Fire Dancer Pirates defeated, leaderboard rank for each Cycle, and current token rewards earned.

This NFT will be dropped to every player who contributes during an event Cycle. Players who already hold the NFT will have their NFT updated with their most recent stats.

The Astrafite Rush event ends on December 14th. The Phantom Galaxies team will give a one week grace period for players to login to the website and save their progress. After that, the NFTs will no longer save any additional data. The window closes on December 21st. Also, at that time, the NFTs become unlocked and tradeable.

Claim Rewards with the Progress Tracker NFT

Astrafite rewards from the event will not begin distribution until January 4th, allowing players a chance to buy or sell their Progress Tracker NFTs. On January 4th, the claim page opens and players can begin claiming their rewards. Rewards are tied to the NFT and vest out over 10 months, 10% per month. Interestingly, the Astrafite rewards are in 10 distinct payments. This means that the NFT can be sold at any point, andt the current owner will always be able to claim any future rewards. IE, if I claim the first two months of rewards, and then sell the NFT, the buyer can start claiming any future monthly rewards allotted to that NFT.

This is a neat way to encapsulate a player’s participation level into a simple NFT package, and allow them to monetize it if they wish. And since KYC may be required in order to claim rewards (still awaiting official word on this), some players may not want to provide their personal information. With the Progress Tracker NFT, they can trade it to someone else and still have a play and earn experience.

What is Astrafite Rush?

Astrafite Rush is a play and earn event in closed alpha for Phantom Galaxies. This event runs in a series of six Cycles. Each one lasts for one week. At the end of every Cycle, players must visit the official Phantom Galaxies website to save their progress. Players can also view their status and current rewards on the webpage as well.

Each Cycle begins a new leaderboard, with players ranked based on how quickly they complete the event objectives. At the end of the Cycle, players in the top 10,000 spots receive rewards. Players receive ASTRAFER tokens based on their placement. In addition, everyone in the top 10K receives 5 ASTRAFER per Cycle if the community goals are met. And finally, Planet holders receive a bonus multiplier based on the Planet(s) they own. The bonuses from owning multiple Planets do stack together.

Astrafite is found in asteroids, with a special ‘Starlight’ asteroid appearing each cycle which contains huge amounts of the ore. Asteroids have a finite Astrafite supply that replenishes with each Cycle. However, asteroids will also have their locations changed between Cycles, giving everyone equal opportunity at finding them.

Fire Dancers are a new Pirate faction that will arrive with this update. Players score points for every Fire Dancer ship they destroy. Defeating Pirates from other factions won’t count towards the leaderboard rankings for this event.

Players must complete the first three Episodes of content in Phantom Galaxies before they can participate in the Astrafite Rush event! So if you haven’t already finished those Episodes, you might want to download the game and get started!

As Phantom Galaxies prepared to launch their Astrafite Rush event, feedback from the player community prompted them to make some tweaks. Specifically, to the number of leaderboard slots that will offer rewards from the event.

Their initial plans to reward the top 150,000 players on the leaderboard was based on the participation numbers in Episode 1 of their alpha. But after some discourse with the community, they decided to reduce those numbers and condense the rewards. The reduced number of reward slots now more closely represents the number of players who have already completed the first three Episodes. But new players can still participate by completing the prerequisite missions and joining the Astrafite hunt during any of the Cycles.

New Astrafite Rush Rewards

Now only 10,000 players will receive rewards, with the highest rewards going to those in the top 30 places. Anyone holding a Planet NFT receives a bonus multiplier to their ASTRAFER tokens received from leaderboard placement. The multipliers go as high as 22 for large Planets, and they also stack if you own multiple Planets. However, there is still a cap on the maximum amount of ASTRAFER each wallet can earn during this event.

There will also be a community goal during the event. If this goal is met, everyone in the top 10,000 spots on the leaderboard receives a bonus of 5 ASTRAFER tokens.

With the increase in potential rewards, the team decided to also add a vesting period. This helps slow the typical token dump we see when rewards are handed out. So, tokens earned in the Astrafite Rush vest out over 10 months at the rate of 10% a month.

This event will run in several cycles, with a leaderboard reset for each cycle. Cycles run for 5 days, starting on Fridays at 12am UTC, and running until the following Wednesday, 11:59pm UTC. The first cycle begins on November 4th and there will be a total of six cycles for this event.

Spider Tanks

Spider tanks launched on October 31st. This is an official game launch for this tank-based MOBA. From now on, everything the players do in-game matters. Ranks will be gained and lost, SILK will be won, and Spider Tanks Node owners generate income by helping to host the matches.

Spider Tanks wants to build itself into a competitive, eSport game with ongoing, MMR rankings, regular tournaments, and a world cup finale every year to determine who is the best Spider Tanks team around! The game is free to play, though those who own their own Tanks and Weapons can earn more rewards.

Phantom Galaxies

In early November, Phantom Galaxies plans to launch a new event called Astrafite Rush. Only available to those who complete the first three missions, this event gives players a chance to mine asteroids for Astrafite, and earn ASTRAFER token in return. Players must own a Phantom Galaxies NFT to play, but the cheapest go for only a couple of dollars. Players pilot ships and mechs in this space-based, story-driven MMO.

Aurory Project

Aurory Project adds new play and earn leaderboards to their closed alpha. This turn-based, creature battling game also resent everyone’s MMR rating to provide a fresh start for everyone. This is just the first phase of this play and earn game, with plans to build out a larger world with dungeons to explore, land to own, and items to find. Aurory is free to play.

Champions Ascension

Champions Ascension has been regularly opening their servers for a few hours at a time in what they call, a Slice of Massina. These world previews, open to anyone holding a Champion NFT, allow players to use their NFT as their in-game avatar and participate in a number of in-world mini-games. Players earn tickets from winning games, and can then spend those tickets for special items.

The Champions Ascension team continues to release updates and new game activities as they build more of their world.

Mines of Dalarnia

Mines of Dalarnia just released a major patch titled Deeper Depths. With additional resources, items, creatures, and more, this patch offers something new for even the most veteran player. Mines of Dalarnia is also free to play.

Phantom Galaxies is a first-person, open-world, space sim, mech shooter, RPG. Players take the role of Space Rangers who pilot Mechanized Starfighters. These vehicles function as typical fighter spaceships, but they also transform into Mech robots that can fight in space and on the surface of planets!

During the game, players engage in Missions, the long-form, story arc of the game, and Quests, one-off scenarios. Also available are Operations (daily quests) and Raids or team-based objectives. The farther away players venture from the core, the more dangerous the missions, and the better the loot. Fly far enough out, and you reach the ‘Rebel Sectors’. Here players compete with each other to gain control of various bases and resource points. Once captured, players stake governance tokens to their holdings and earn a steady stream of rewards — for as long as they can maintain control.

Starfighters unlock as players progress through the story. Featuring a resource harvesting and crafting system, Phantom Galaxies allows players to upgrade Starfighters and even build them from scratch!
