That is right! We are in January and the team intends to launch player-controlled gameplay in Q1 of 2023. It can take up to three months before players can access all the features that are shut down, like fusing. The reason behind this decision is that the maintenance costs of the 2D game with only a few active players are no longer sustainable.

The team understands that turning off most of the game will cause doubt and uncertantity among the community. But, they are confident that the project will evolve and will go back to being a big hit in web3 Gaming. On their official Twitch channel users can watch Corey Wilton, CEO of the project, talking about this decision and answering some questions from the community.

But, there are still a few things that players can do while waiting for the reborn of Pegaxy. Below are the features that are still accessible and usable:

Then there are features that are accessible but not usable like:

What’s Pegaxy?

Pegaxy so far has been a “play2earn” horse racing simulator where players earn the utility token $VIS when they finish a race in one of the top three positions. $VIS then has different utilities within the ecosystem. Now things are changing and Pegaxy will go from being a simulator to a real game where players control their NFT pegas.

I have always mentioned that Pegaxy as a simulator would not survive the harshness of crypto winter. By the stats of dapp radar we can see that users are leaving the ecosystem. When it comes to the game’s assets, $VIS, $PGX and Pegas themselves, they are all worthless which is another indicator that players are not interested in playing the game. Now add the fact that the game will be turned off for two months to the equation, and from it, there are two possible results.

One and, in my opinion, the most likely scenario. The gameplay is not good enough to attract old and new players and Pegaxy dies completely. Second, the gameplay is actually engaging and the most die hard fans of the project come back with a few new players. Personally, I think it will die. I took a look into the footage and it does not look like it is that fun to play, so in the end, people will play just for financial reasons. But all Pegaxy assets are worthless so there will be no reason to play the game at all.

Wether Pegaxy goes to its grave or is reborn like the phoenix rests now in the hands of the team. I will leave you with a video with my personal opinion regarding Pegaxy in 2023.

The Pegaxy team introduces the VIS withdrawal and locking system because, recently, the game had attracted a large number of players, leading to the overproduction of the in-game token Pega and oversupplying of VIS tokens. By implementing this system, they aim to reduce the pressure on the market.

What is VIS locking?

Under this new system, users who have not raced since the launch of Pledge racing in September 2022 will face the Locking of all Claimable Silver VIS. Additionally, if a user doesn’t race for 30 days in future locks, their claimable Silver VIS will be locked. The above action will be applicable to all scholars and racers on Pegaxy. 

The Locked VIS cannot be withdrawn or sold; however, they can be used for in-game operations such as race entry fees, renting stables, fusing horses, breeding, and expanding assets. Another way to move locked Silver VIS to Claimable Silver VIS is through racing rewards.

Players will receive a warning with a timer countdown about VIS locking if they don’t race continuously for 23 days. In addition, all players who have not raced in 30 days will receive the notice of Silver VIS locking pop-up on opening the app. Accounts can prevent the VIS locking renting Pega NFT. But, the rented horses must race within 30 days or else the VIS will be locked.

New VIS withdrawal system:

In the new withdrawal system, players can withdraw the claimable silver VIS and convert it into Gold VIS. The Gold VIS can be traded on marketplaces. You can convert the silver VIS to Gold VIS by accessing the Token Management option and also view all your tokens. The Gold VIS is held in the user’s wallet, while the Silver VIS is deposited into the game.

What is VIS token?

VIS or Vigorus is an in-game utility token of the Pegaxy game. Players earn VIS by renting, trading, breeding and racing horses in the game. Players can use VIS tokens for the breeding and fusion of horses. The Polygon ERC-20 token has an unlimited supply and is won by players who come in the top 3 positions in Pegaxy races. The amount of VIS rewarded to players fluctuates with the economy.

What is the Pegaxy game?

Pegaxy is a horse racing blockchain game where players can earn NFT tokens, coins and much more. Each race is different every time, with elemental variables like wind, water, fire and speed that can boost or slow your horse. Players can upgrade, breed and train horses and compete against 11 other racers to acquire the top 3 positions. The game provides a rental marketplace for players to buy, lend or borrow horses. In addition, the in-game marketplace allows players to buy and sell their Pegas for tokens.

In the last months, Pegaxy’s team has been implementing a lot of changes to the game to revert its economical situation but they did not succeed. Nevertheless. Pegas NFTs, $VIS, and $PGX are still worthless.

Recently, another wave of updates was implemented in Pegaxy as another attempt to revert its catastrophic economic decline. Starting with Pledge Racing. To participate in races players have to spend their Pega’s energy and also pay a fee in $VIS. 10% of those fees will be burned, and the remaining 90% will be used to reward the top 3 players in that race.

This means that $VIS is from now on deflationary. Besides that, the token can not be minted anymore since the $VIS earned in races comes from the participants.

Then there is also Drop Racing where players pay a ‘Flat Fee’ of 60 $VIS to participate. In Pledge Racing the fee and reward depend on the class of the participating Pega, while in Drop Racing the fee and reward are always the same.

Tokenomics update

Besides that, Silver Locked $VIS was added to the ecosystem. Now there’s Gold $VIS which is On-Chain and there’s Silver $VIS which is Off-chain. This will allow a better gameplay experience since there are not as many on-chain transactions as before.

Exchanging between the two tokens can be done at a fixed rate of 1:1 and each token has a different utility:

Gold $VIS

• Breeding
• Fusing
• Crafting
• Name change
• Apply Food
• Reroll services currently

Silver locked $VIS

• Race entry fees

But exchanging these tokens can not be done at any time. When depositing Gold $VIS it turns into Silver Locked $VIS. On the other hand, Silver Locked $VIS can only be exchanged for Gold $VIS every 15 days.

Renting, Scholarships and Running a Guild in Pegaxy

Obviously, with all these changes, scholarships and the renting system were also affected.

Before the update, renters could only define how to split the profit from races. But now, Pega owners can also define how to split the fees necessary to participate in races if renting through ‘Public Share’, ‘Direct Rent(Private)’ and ‘Paid Rent Fee’.

Public Share: The owner will determine the reward share percentage and amount paid for race entry fees. The amount of reward share and entry fee payment can be different, for example, 50% reward share but the owner pays 80% of all race entry fees. If the owner runs out of Silver VIS for pledge racing, the renter will be prompted and given the option to return the Pega.

Direct Rent (Private): The owner will determine the reward share percentage and amount paid for race entry fees. The amount of reward share and entry fee payment can be different, for example, 50% reward share but the owner pays 80% of all race entry fees. If the owner runs out of Silver VIS for pledge racing, the renter will be prompted and given the option to return the Pega.

Paid Rent Fee: Renter will pay 100% of the entry fee in Drop Racing and Pledge Racing.

Will it be enough?

Pegaxy’s ecosystem was desperately needing an update like this. It changed completely its economic model and the supply of $VIS will decrease over time. Personally, I do not see Pegaxy as a project succeeding in a bear market. This update changed its tokenomics but did not change the fact that Pegaxy is not a fun game.

Since a fee is required for every race there’s a chance that players will lose money while racing with their Pegas and this will cause people to leave. Add the possibility of losing money to a boring game and you have the perfect cocktail for complete failure.

I think Pegaxy will only stand a chance if they introduce fun and competitive gameplay where players have real control over their horses.

What is Pegaxy?

Pegaxy is a horse racing simulator on the Polygon blockchain. Players can either buy or rent Pegas, which are mechanical horses that exist in the form of NFTs. These can be used to participate in races.
In each race, the top 3 players are rewarded with the utility token $VIS. Every time a Pega is used to race it loses 1 energy and when its energy reaches 0 it will not be able to race.

Besides racing, players can also use their Pegas to breed a new offspring by burning $VIS and, the governance token, $PGX. As another $VIS sink, there’s also fusing where players can merge two Pegas of an inferior rarity to get a Pega of a superior rarity.

In the last months, Pegaxy’s assets have been losing their value and a lot of players saw their investment going down. The $VIS token went from its all-time high of 25 cents of a dollar to 0.0000176 cents of a dollar.

In the past 30 days, four games took the lead in terms of new users acquired: Sunflower Land (38.43%), Crazy Defense Heroes (30.42%), Pegaxy (16.31%), and Arc8 (11.37%). These four titles make up 95.63% of the new users on Polygon-based games.

Falling short of 22k daily active users, Sunflower Land is by far the most played games of the chunk. Arc8 has a total of 17k daily players, but is not acquiring new ones fast enough. CDH is a long-lasting Animoca success with 9k daily users, similar to Pegaxy. 

1. Sunflower Land

Sunflower Land is a Play to Own farming simulator, where players gain perks and benefits by watering plants, growing crops, feeding animals, and overall running a proficient farm. The game is part of a new trend shifting away from the term “Play to Earn” for “Play and Earn” and/or “Play to Own”.

The tokenomics features $SFL, currently valued at $0.16, down 15% in the last 24 hours. The token is in a freefall after the recent crypto crash of May 2022.

According to DappRadar, Sunflower Land totalled $160k+ in transactions in the past 30 days, coming from 784k transactions overall, estimating the average value per transaction a little over $0.20. We recently analysed why Sunflower Land is the biggest hit on Polygon here.

2. Crazy Defense Heroes

Crazy Defense Heroes is an RPG-style tower defense game based on collectible cards, chests, and rewards.

Players have to defend the towers, take part in weekly challenges, defeat bosses, and create clans. There are over 400 Towers, spells, and collectible cards with 1000 levels to conquer. 

The game is one of the fastest-growing recently thanks to their Tower Map NFT Rewards. According to Footprint Analytics, the total number of gamers as of the 25th of May is 542,169. The acquisition cohort chart shows a 45% retention in the latest quarter, not an amazing result.

Crazy Defense Heroes features the $TOWER token, currently valued at $0.005, down 8.15% in the last 24 hours and in a downfall trend since the beginning of the year. 

CDH is not doing well financially, but it keeps being one of the most downloaded apps and has the full backing of Animoca Brands, which recently became a unicorn.

3. Pegaxy

Pegaxy is a PvP horse racing simulator which offers several horse races, each with 12 horses running, with the top 3 horses receiving prizes in the game reward token $VIS. 

The horse races are mostly decided on luck, but some other factors such as the horse’s gene and rarity play a role in the calculation. 

The tokenomics features $VIS, to balance the minting cost, breed horses, and manage in-game rewards, and $PGX, the governance token, also used for breeding, and to get involved in the proposal engine.

$PGX is currently valued at $0.03, up 0.48% in the past 24 hours, and $VIS sits at $0.0003, down 1.24% in the same timeframe.

Pegaxy has the highest retention rate of all games on Polygon. According to Footprint, the peak was 77% of new players retained in Q1 2022. 

To keep players’ engagement high, Pegaxy released an annual event: The Big Sprint Championship.

The cup is held once a year, with the first 11 months being the qualifying month. The top 12 players in each of the five levels (renting, marketplace, racing, breeding, and connect) are selected each month, drawing a pool of 660 players per year into the global finals. 

The winner of the final round is rewarded with a large amount of $PGX Token distributed by the Ecosystem Fund.

4. Arc8

Launched in October 2021, Arc8 is GAMEE’s collection of mobile games on the Polygon chain. The platform is host to over 10 minigames, ranging from puzzle games to action movies, and is fairly popular amongst casual gamers on mobile devices.

On each given day, the platform releases daily tournaments for players to get involved in. Some are free, requiring only the in-game points, some require a participation fee, paid out in $GMEE.

During the gameplay, players might win $GMEE for completing quests for free, or may gamble in the daily tournaments to receive a higher amount.

$GMEE is the governance token, and is currently valued at $0.018, down 4.27% in the past 24 hours. The token is on a downfall trend after the game failed to maintain a fast-paced growth, with daily active users decreasing rapidly. 

According to Footprint, less than 18% of new users stick around. It’s worth noticing that, given the nature of a platform hosting tons of minigames, they are the games with the most trades! 

DappRadar reports 1.98M transactions in the past 30 days, down only 0.81% from last month. Arc8 is working hard to keep the number high and attract new players with great incentives through their referral program.

In Conclusion

Now that the Play to Earn model is popular enough to attract giants like Netmarble to consider it (have you seen Ni no KuNi?)analytical platforms are popping out and will help you analyze current trends. Thanks to the data from Footprint Analytics, you can make informed decisions on which games to get involved with next.

Pegaxy Gameplay Updates

The most significant changes that were deployed over the last weeks are related to the racing rules.

• Races now feature 15 horses instead of 12. The rewards pool per race remains the same.
• The race results now take into account the horses statistics. Pegas will perform better or worse depending on the conditions of the race. The full algorithm behind this update is secret and players in their Discord are still trying to figure out the best strategy.
• Genetic breeding has also been announced, but without any specific details… Leaving a lot of players in the dark and users trying to figure out by themselves the best breeding strategies.

These updates were deployed without prior notice and without the publication of the specific details. This brought a lot of confusion to players, trying to figure out by themselves how to optimize their stables to maximize earnings. This move was deliberate form the team as they don’t want to make it too easy for users or big guilds to crack the code behind the game and profit from the updates.

Rental System Update

Since March 23rd, owners are now able to change the rent’s share percentage even while a Pega is being rented. The renter can only see if their share percentage has changed by checking the Pega information panel. A notification system is planned for a future release. Not sure of the rationale behind this decision as it seems quite unfair for renters and owners could easily take advantage of this system.

The team also improved their anti-bot system for public profit-share rentals and plans to expand this system even more in the future.

Pegaxy breeding event

The breeding event is taking place from April 3rd to April 10th. during this period the breeding cooldown will be removed for all adult Pegas and newborns can be bred after just 48 hours instead of 96 hours. This should incentive players to breed more Pegas, thus, burning more $VIS tokens.

Crowned Pegas and Fabled Tokens

Crowned Pegas are the gods among the other Pegas. If you are looking for a rare and collectible item in Pegaxy, owning a crowned Pega is the holy grail.

Crowned Pegas can be evolved from any regular pegas by using 5 Fabled tokens. Thse tokens were initially distributed through a referral program during the founding Pega sale. During this event, only 722 Fabled tokens were claimed, quite a limited supply! Fabled tokens are now available in the marketplace and they are not selling for cheap. The floor price currently sits at 950 USDT… and you need 5 of them in order to evolve your Pega. It is important to note that the evolution is not guaranteed and can fail. You can see below the evolution probability table… That’s less than 40% chance to evelove your Pega into a crowned Pega… Once all the Fabled tokens will be used, no crowned Pegas can ever be made.

Mobile App launch in April

The mobile app releases has been expected by players for quite a while now. the team just made the announcement yesterday that the app will be launched in April. No specific date is set yet, but Pegaxy mobile is coming soon for iOS and Android users.

UPDATE: The gameplay updates are live since March 4th

Pegaxy Gameplay Changes

Before this development release, the team introduced different ideas which were reviewed internally and by the community. The proposed updates were the following:

• Flipping cooldowns for all breeds to provide different incentives for breeding
• Adding cooldowns to adults when breeding
• Adding variable energy to newborn Pega
• Additional Pegas added to races
• Newborn Pegas will have 0 energy at birth

Out of these 5 proposals, 3 will be implemented in the next release. No specific date has been given by the team, but their wish is to release the update as soon as possible.

The 3 approved gameplay changes are:

• Flipping cooldowns for all breeds to provide different incentives for breeding
• Adding cooldowns to adults when breeding
• Newborn Pegas will have 0 energy at birth

Giving a variable energy limit to newborn Pegas was rejected as this would have favored big guilds and wouldn’t be fair to all players.

Adding additional Pegas to the races is still on the table but will be released at a later stage due to the changes needed to the 3D racetracks.

The community gave a lot of feedback to the team and shared more ideas to improve the game’s economy. The team studied them but decided that these fixes would just speed up or delay the ROI of the Pega and it wouldn’t necessarily help the games’s economy in the long-run. The team announced that they will soon release a Pegaxy Myth Busters video series to explain why or why not they decide to implement community ideas. Hats off to the team for the transparency here.

Apollo and API Updates

Over the past weeks, the team improved the overall user interface of their Apollo Dashboard. They also added a new Liquidity Pool Leader Board which can be accessed here apollo.pegaxy.io/analytics. They also added a statistics page related to the recent valentines day breeding event.

To answer the requests from the community, the team updated all the API endpoints and hosted all the documentation on api-apollo.pegaxy.io/docs/. More API updates are expected in the next development cycles.

Themis Update

Themis is the governance platform for the Pegaxy ecosystem. The aim for the team is to bring this to the community in early March.

They have developed a voting algorithm similar to other DAOs in order to give fair voting rights to all members and guilds.

Themis will also make it easier for the community to submit development proposals.

The next 6 weeks development cycle has already started and the items in the team’s pipeline are the following:

• Themis release
• Genetics Based Breeding
• Skill Based Decision Making (Phase 1 approach to ease the community into the system, before the Q3 Skill based gameplay)

The biggest news here is the introduction to the first skill based gameplay features. These features should be released in different phases, before the full release planned for the third quarter.

What is Pegaxy?

Pegaxy is a Player v Player (PVP) horse racing simulator which offers you several ways to be involved in the game and its ecosystem.

Each race has 12 horses running, with the top 3 horses receiving prizes in the game reward token VIS. Currently all race positions are decided through RNG (Random Number Generator) but this will change with version 2 taking into consideration factors such as: changing environment/stadium conditions, which are linked to the attributes of each horse, the food given to a horse and the clothing gear apparel used on your horse.

The Pegaxy Beta launch was in Q4 2021 with its marketplace, rental system and breeding programmes also arriving at this time. The long-term predominant focus for gameplay will be the mobile version as this gives the most flexible way to grow the user base and fits within the team’s previous experience.

Axie Infinity Origin

Perhaps one of the most anticipated releases ever in the world of blockchain gaming, Axie Infinity Origin is expected to launch in March. This release is designed to attract new players to the game with a set of free Starter Axies. These starter Axies aren’t play to earn NFTs, but they do serve as a way to introduce new players to the game without having to open their wallets or sign on for a scholarship.

But perhaps most interesting of all will be the new gameplay. Turns aren’t cool anymore! Now players just play cards whenever they want! I’m not completely sure how this actually works out in-game, but I will be dusting off my dusty, old Axies to check it out!

Sandbox Alpha Season 2

Sandbox Alpha Season 2 begins on March 1st. And this time, it’s open to everyone! Anybody can make an account with Sandbox and download the game maker to access the Season 2 adventures. Complete quests and earn raffle tickets for a Season 2 Pass, which grants a nice stack of SAND tokens to the lucky winners!

I am continually surprised by new games coming from developers using the Sandbox. From standard adventures, jumping through holes in random walls that come at you, to side scrollers, to retro space defender-type games!

Heroes of Mavia Land Sale Delayed

Unfortunately, real life sometimes intrudes on the gaming scene. And this is unfortunately true now with the war in Ukraine. Ukraine has long been a hot spot for remote software developers, and so many development teams around the world have been affected. Though with the conflict seeming to ramp up in the region, I would not be surprised to see it delayed further.

I know we talked about Voxie Tactics in the Games to Watch in February article, but if you passed by it the first time, this game is worth a deeper look. It’s free to play, offers opportunities to find equipment NFTs, and the devs do an outstanding job with their releases. Some games go months without patches, but the Voxies team has been working their tails off since the beta launch, releasing a new patch every week. They’re fixing bugs, balancing classes and weapons, and improving the UI. You don’t need any NFTs to play, though having your own does provide some advantages. NFT Worlds

After their initial NFT sale in the fall of 2021, NFT Worlds has quickly built a following. They have also put together a set of interconnected tools to help World owners create their own visions and easily incorporate play to earn features. Built on Minecraft, NFT Worlds created the WRLD token and already offers play to earn opportunities on their own server. They’ve also built an API connected to the token that allows for in-game payments and seamless token transfers. Soon there will also be options for staking and renting Worlds.

The action packed AAA space fighting RPG Phantom Galaxies just released its second episode. So if you are one of the lucky owner of a Halberd-001 NFT, you can go ahead, update the game and play this new episode.

NFT Drops, Breeding Events, and More

Pegaxy recently became one of the most popular blockchain game. With high earning potentials and a well designed in-game marketplace and rental system, the game is for sure ahead of Derace, its main competitor.

While playing Pegaxy can be quite lucrative, the actual gameplay is not the most engaging. The race’s results are totally random and the racing experience itself is limited to watching 2 dimensional images running across your screen.

The launch of 3D racing marks a step towards a more engaging experience even if the change is only visual for now. Future releases will take into account the strengths and weaknesses of each Pega depending on the race conditions (wind, temperature, humidity,…). The game should also introduce some skill based features and move away even more from the current RNG (random number generator) model.

How to Enable 3D Racing in Pegaxy

3D racing requires at least 8GB of RAM, a stable internet connection and works best on Google Chrome. Mobile browsers are not yet supported, but this should be resolved once the mobile app will be launched.

To enable the 3D racing, you will need to click on your wallet and then on the “Enable 3D Gameplay” button. It is recommended to clear your browsers cache and relaunch it to experience the new version. If they prefer, players can revert to the 2D gameplay by selecting the 3D option in their wallet a second time. This is the best option for lower specs machines and for players who just want to focus on their earnings.

Valentine’s Day Breeding Event

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the Pegaxy will sell some special tickets that will enable horse owners to get some special newborn Pegas. We do not have all the details at the moment but the tickets will upgrade the rarity of the newly born Pegas. These new horses should also look a little bit more “sprakly”.

3 types of Valentine tickets will be available:

• Legendary — Price: 29,999 VIS — Supply: 500 tickets
• Epic — Price: 17,499 VIS — Supply: 1,000 tickets
• Rare — Price: 6,666 VIS — Supply: 1,500 tickets

The sale will start on February 13th at 6PM (UTC+8) and will take place in the Pegaxy Marketplace.

What is Pegaxy?

Pegaxy is a Player v Player (PVP) horse racing game (horses based on Pegasus the mythical winged horse from Greek legend), which offers you several ways to be involved in the game and its ecosystem: Racing, breeding and renting. Each race has 12 horses running, with the top 3 horses receiving prizes in the game reward token VIS.

The Pegaxy Beta launch was in Q4 2021 with its marketplace, rental system and breeding programmes also arriving at this time. The long-term predominant focus for gameplay will be the mobile version as this gives the most flexible way to grow the userbase and fits within the team’s previous experience.

What is Pegaxy?

Pegaxy is an NFT based horse racing game on the Polygon blockchain. To compete in a race, players must own or rent a Pega. Pegas can be bought and rented via the in-game marketplace. Although the horses are machines, players can breed Pegas if they own at least a male and a female horse.

The game is web based, but a mobile version is planned for release in Q2 2022. The gameplay should also evolve and introduce 3D graphics, skill based gaming mechanics and the introduction to stadium ownership in future releases.

The game works on a dual token economy: PGX and VIS. The PGX token is the governance token of the game and VIS is the reward token that is also used to breed Pegas. You can find more informations about Pegaxy in our Pegaxy Game Guide or directly in the project’s whitepaper.
