Once again the bear market makes its effects felt. This time it’s with the core WAX team. But, even though they had to layoff and restructure, WAX still feels confident about the future!

The Future of WAX

WAX Blockchain has several divisions that are paramount to its existence as a whole. They gave us a rundown of each one and their plans for the future. 

Core WAX Blockchain Protocol

WAX had been working closely with the Antelope Coalition, which stays the same. This will help WAX enhance its Antelope stack and proprietary Wax Blockchain protocols. Also, the tooling will be upgraded for both. Tokenomics are being looked into to reduce inflation and to improve WAXP token utility. They also want to implement USD pegging. USD pegging for block producer and standby rewards.. 

By the 2nd and 3rd Quarters of 2023, Inter Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol is expected to be implemented, improving scalability and native compatibility with other chains and to facilitate connectivity with chains based on Antelope. Moreover, to better utilize sparse resources, dApps would be able to run independently. Then comes the launch of EVM, which will be a component of the Antelope stack to allow cross accessibility from external developers, enabling hassle-free migration of their projects onto WAX. 

Moreover, the impending upgrade to the stellar Antelope Instant Finality would be made, bringing the WAX Blockchain finality time from the sky-high 3 minutes to an impressive 2 seconds. This would be a game changer, simplifying the process of composing Web3 applications. 

Finally, more updates shall see the light, including upgrades to their resource model. The Antelope Scalability+ enhancements should allow the creation and operation of over a billion accounts! This is to take place in 2023 and is ultimately aimed at maintaining WAX as a robust transaction system. 

WAX Cloud Wallet

Cloud Wallet is one of the key areas of improvement which will be overhauled. As WAX is primarily a transaction system, there will be a complete makeover of the wallet system. It includes improvement its core functionality, a refreshed user experience and adding protections to its stringent security layers. 

To make the wallet more accessible, several gaps will be bridged through Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain. Other EVM chains will follow suit after that. This will dramatically enhance WAX’s reach to the masses. In addition, a scoring system will be introduced to identify bots. This will be done by dApp’s whitelisting scoring system. 

Currently, users can’t claim their accounts when left unused for some time. This will be changed through a Cloud Wallet browser plug-in. Then there’s the social wallet to explore newer avenues related to brand new projects, allowing newfound interaction amongst creators, and sending waves of content to WAX’s users. 

A robust multichain system is the core requirement for the cloud wallet’s restructuring. Simply said, this will calibrate the already inbuilt cloud wallet features to be compatible with multitudes of other blockchains. As a result, users can easily access other blockchains. 

vIRL Marketplace

vIRL Marketplace will also begin the integration of multichain support for several currencies, but primarily Ethereum. dApp developers will benefit from much better access to add marketplace functions into their apps. Even Unity SDK will be closely knit with the marketplace sometime during the 3rd or the 4th quarter. 

Socialization is a big thing in the new restructuring, which a social marketplace will facilitate. It means more users, more connections and more interested creators. Empowering users is one of the goals of WAX, and that will be taken care of quite aptly with these new features in the marketplace. 

The core tooling components

WAX aims at user friendliness and enterprise-level agreeability with its entire ecosystem. Especially when it comes to integrating with Custodial Service Providers for better business overall. The authenticity of reporting information is another thing that needs to be paid attention to, and WAX is not slacking off on it. So, it will work with reporting services to bring out a clearer picture for the entirety of WAX’s ecosystem activity. 

Gaming will also see a boost with built-in compatibility of the cloud wallet with the Unity SDK, which will also be introduced 2023. This will allow developers to easily on-board new users and interact with smart contracts.

What about Tyranno Game Studios? 

Tyranno Game Studios, the premier Web3 studio, will continue to develop their games.

For Blockchain Brawlers, the ability to buy NFTS in-game with BRWL, WAXP, and credit cards will be implemented this year. Other staking and minting of NFT-related improvements shall be done as well. The noted highlight however would be the B.E.S.T. or the Brawlers Esports Series Tournaments. The first of these should launch soon.

Additionally, Music Mogul will have its MVP game launched sometime early next year

Finally, a new mobile app and new clients for Mac and Windows users will be available for the smoothest experience possible.

Music Mogul gave us a general overview of their game mechanics a few months back, but now we have more details and some interface screenshots as well!

At its core, Music Mogul is a complex, music-themed, stake and earn system with weekly leaderboards. Using Artists, Studio Crew, and Equipment NFTs, players send their musicians to record songs and go on tour, earning Cred in the process. Players then use Cred to acquire studio gear and crew to help record higher quality singles.

Touring, Recording and Charts

Touring involves sending an Artist out to earn Cred. Some Tours require certain Artist rarities or genres or even an initial payment. Once engaged, Artists are locked into the Tour for the listed time and receive a payout when completing the tour.

Recording involves selection a recording room, and assigning Crew, Equipment, and an Artist. Higher rated recording rooms can stack more Crew and Equipment, increasing the potential rating for the recording. Higher rated songs place higher on the charts, which will function as a competitive leaderboard in Music Mogul

Each week will feature a specific genre for the leaderboard. Only tracks that fit the genre can be submitted for consideration. Winner of these competitions receive “C-Notes” as rewards. Players use C-Notes to purchase more Artists for their label, or to access higher end recording studios.

Players share the same reward pools, with the top players receiving significantly higher payouts. As more players join, the payouts spread among more Artists, resulting in less income, and potentially making those top spots more vauable.

More about Music Mogul?

The dashboard for the player interface is the Label tab. Here players can see their current status, as well as the statuses of all their Artists, Crew, and Equipment. Artists who are on tour or recording will have a timer showing how long until they complete their current assignment.

Music Mogul will also feature Syndicates, their version of guilds or clans. At first release, this will just be a placeholder for future additions to the game.

Players can visit the in-game store to purchase Crew and Equipment. The available selections are randomized, but refresh periodically. Or players can choose to manually re-roll for a payment in Cred. Since Equipment used in the Recording Studio is single use only, players will probably make visits to the Shop quite often.

In order to keep the game fresh, Artists’ popularity will rise and fall over time, forcing players to keep an eye on things and make adjustments to their Recording and Touring plans. Artists also gain experience from being active, which can affect their Recording results.

Music Mogul is built by Tyranno Studios (formerly known as Wax Studios). Tyranno has not announced a release date for Music Mogul, but their social media has been very active lately, so I would not be surprised to see an official announcement soon!

The WAX Studios team decided to integrate multi-chain capabilities to allow users to access games, NFT collections, and assets and use them on any compatible chain. Tyranno Studios will focus on multi-chain facilities with a focus on decentralization and digital ownership with a transparent system.

The Tyranno Studios team consists of experienced developers working on multiple blockchain game projects and web3 products. The flagship NFT game Blockchain Brawlers will launch a new Ethereum-based NFT land sale soon after the rebranding. The rebranding will also increase the Blockchain Brawlers player base, as players from other blockchain ecosystems can play the game. In addition, the company will start integrating its multi-chain capabilities with Ethereum. 

About WAX Studios (now Tyranno Studios)

The Worldwide Asset Exchange, or WAX, is one of the most popular blockchains for NFTs. WAX was founded in 2017 as the most convenient way to create, buy and sell NFTS. As a part of the WAX blockchain, the founders launched WAX Studios as a gaming studio.

Music Mogul, a game about building and running a musical empire and topping the charts, gave us some more information about their game. Music Mogul features two primary gameplay experiences, touring and recording. Basically, these represent the PvE and the PvP portions of the game, respectively.

Touring involves assigning Artists to different Gigs and earning Keys, a game currency. Essentially, a staking system for Artist NFTs. Gigs are randomly generated and come with various requirements including Artist Genre, Star Power level, and Notes (the other in-game currency) cost. Gigs have a lockup period from 1 to 24 hours. The available Gig options change regularly, so if there isn’t anything that fits your Artists, you can always check back later to see what new Gigs have opened up.

It’s unclear how new players will start with the Notes needed to Tour, but perhaps there will be free Tour options available.

Players use Keys to send Artists to the Recording Studios. Artists assigned to a Recording Studio generate Notes, bringing the basic economy full circle. When Artists are assigned to Recording Rooms, they are locked in for a week.

More About Recording Studios

To assist in the Recording Studio, players may purchase Staff and Equipment NFTs in-game for Notes. Though they can also be purchased from other players on secondary markets. A random selection of Staff will be available for purchase by players in-game. The available NFTs refresh throughout the day. So, like Gigs, players can wait until they see the right Staff for their needs. Staff come in four types — Composer, Producer, Sound Engineer, and Artist Manager.

Each Artist in a Recording Room can have up to four Staff assigned to them. Each assigned Staff provides a boost to that recording Artist’s earnings. Some Staff have preferred Genres, and provide even bigger boosts when their Genres match the Artist’s. Staff can be upgraded by combining multiple copies of a card to create a higher level version.

Recording Artists may also be assigned Equipment. Unlike Staff, Equipment comes in random packs. Equipment consists of six types, and each Recording Room has slots for one of each type. Equipment also increases the Artist’s earnings. However, Equipment comes with a durability rating, allowing each NFT only a limited number of uses.

Music Moguls plans on having a number of leaderboards, or charts, for players, based on the total earnings of their Recording Artists. The team promises to include a variety of leaderboards so that even players with a small roster of Artists has a chance to place. Top players on the charts receive weekly rewards in the form of Notes.

In order to keep the game fresh, Artists’ popularity will rise and wane over time, forcing players to keep an eye on their setup and earnings.

This is now the second game for WAX studios. And so far, it seems that their first release, Blockchain Brawlers has been a success. Will Music Mogul be a worthy follow-up release?

At first look, Music Mogul feels like another staking and idle clicker game. But, the team claims that the game includes strategic decision making and requires attentiveness from the players. They also promise a use for low Star rated Artists in addition to the high powered Stars. In Music Mogul, players own a record label where they try to find the best talent and build a musical empire. The game is play to earn, though we don’t know any details yet. I assume it will have some sort of token emission.

Pop Genre Artist Talent Pack

Talent Packs go on sale on June 28th, 10am PST. This sale features the Pop Genre Artist Talent Pack. The number of packs for this sale is limited to 5,000 and there is no whitelist. It will just be a free for all purchase, which used to be a crazed scene a year ago. We’ll see if this sale generates significant interest. 5,000 packs is a relatively small number compared to some other releases.

Each pack costs $75 in WAX and contains 25 NFTs. In all, there are 25 different Artist NFTs in this collection. Each comes with a Star rating, from one to five, with more Stars meaning higher rarity. Players use the Mogul Star maker to upgrade their Artists. Upgrading requires burning copies. You must use Artist NFTs that are of the same artist and the same Star rating when upgrading.

In the case of Music Mogul, upgrading cards becomes significantly more difficult for each rarity rank. Upgrading from one Star to two Stars requires three cards, while upgrading from four Stars to five Stars takes nine cards! If you wanted to upgrade all the way to legendary (five Stars) from just one Star cards, you would need 648 copies of the same NFT!

But this is kind of standard stuff these days. And while I think the idea of running a music business is interesting, they are really going to need to build this game into something more than staking and clicking to compete in the current blockchain space. Maybe if it ties in to actual music NFTs somehow…

The game should launch this fall. Hopefully we’ll see a whitepaper and / or a couple of good AMAs soon. To watch for updates, keep an eye on their channel in the WAX Discord server and their Twitter.
