The next Mirandus playtest kicks off on May 15th and runs for two weeks (though no firm close date has been set). Players will need to own a Mirandus Exemplar character and keep it in their Gala wallet to join in this playtest. There are still some Exemplars available in the Gala Games store, and on third party markets.

Also, the NFT game items Ring of Discord, and Lantern of the Sun will be usable in-game. Both items provide a magical light source for the players. And these items should be useful because nights are really dark in Mirandus! In addition, anyone who owns a Mirandus VOX that matches the Exemplar (e.g. a Seafarer Exemplar and Seafarer VOX), will receive a health boost of 25% in the game.

This playtest is a huge expansion on previous tests. For starters, it features a full size zone – a play area that is 30 times larger than their goblin test last year! Players will be able to explore the zone, engage in combat, and craft various items. The Mirandus team says that they tuned up the difficulty of the monsters for this test. They also suggest bringing friends when heading out to dangerous areas!

Some players were allowed early access to the playtest for an hour, and you can see a number of gameplay videos posted on their Discord server. This event has actually led to some dissent among the playerbase. Apparently there is supposed to be a reward given to whoever is the first to kill the boss in this playtest. However, some of those who were in the early preview have scraped all the data and know spawn locations, loot tables, and the location of the boss in question, giving them a significant advantage in the competition. Now there is some discussion about changing the reward plans. Head over to the Mirandus Discord to join in the chat.

Another milestone arrives with this playtest — the end of the sale for Firebrand steeds. Once this playtest completes, any remaining, unsold Firebrand Steeds will be burned, and these NFTs will never be offered again!

May Mayhem

Town Star relaunches their game on a new game engine called Godot. They will also be adding new content and holding weekly competitions throughout the month. Players can earn rewards by playing in May, with larger rewards for those who place at the top of the competitions.

Champions Arena has an ongoing playtest that extends into May. They have also said to expect the first ever Champions Arena NFT sale sometime this month.

GRIT, an FPS with a western theme plans to open up on a 24/7 basis for everyone with a Gala Games account. This is a huge leap forward for a game that until now, has only been open for a couple of hours a week.

Echoes of Empire just closed their five day playtest, but the team has hinted that there will be some ‘extra special excitement’ in May for EoE. Hopefully it will be a new playtest or beta announcement rather than another sale!

Mirandus will bring us another playtest in May with more goblin killing, and a huge bounty for whoever gets the first kill on their new Boss creature.

Superior should open up as free to play for everyone in May. And Legends Reborn which is already in an open playtest, promises to bring special competitions for venue owners in the coming weeks.

Gala Games also mentions two mobile games that should connect to the web3 world soon – Meow Match and Dragon Strike. These both came from their acquisition of the mobile developer Ember Entertainment earlier this year.

This Mirandus playtest is for the Tavern Games, a set of in-game mini-games to entertain players. For this test, we have Three-Eyed Snake, a dice rolling and betting game.

This playtest is open to everyone with a Gala Games account, which is free to create and does not have any KYC requirements.

Players need copper coins to play Three-Eyed Snake, and so every player will receive 30 copper coins every six hours. Players should also receive bonuses to their basic copper coin income based on NFT and MTRM holdings in their wallet. At the end of the playtest, the top 10 players who have accumulated the most copper coins will be able to claim a first edition Tavern Tankard!

The playtest begins on March 2nd at 10am PT, and runs for a week until March 9th, 10pm PT.

As part of the tech updates for this test, the dice rolling actually uses the Unity physics engine rather than a static animation. Pretty cool!

When the game launches, players will be able to engage in these Tavern Games at their local establishment, engaging with other players whose characters are in the same tavern!

In addition to this test of the Tavern Games, a larger Mirandus playtest should arrive soon as well, potentially later in March or April.

This VOX Holiday Mystery Box sale occurs in two parts. The first, a ‘pre-sale’, is only open to holders of VOX NFTs (series 1-4), or a VOX Box. Only 1000 Mystery Boxes are available for the pre-sale, with a maximum of two mints per wallet. The price is 0.08 ETH. However, there is some bureaucracy to deal with. Users will need to verify their identity through a partner, Novel. Once identified, users will receive a code to redeem for their Mystery Box(es) and a payment invoice. A valid email and billing address will also be required. Players have until December 22nd, 12pm PT to complete their purchase. If they don’t pay, their reserved Mystery Boxes will be put up for sale on open Sea. The pre-sale opens at 12pm PT on December 21st.

What’s inside these Mystery Boxes?

Every box contains a random NFT. About 57% of them will contain an Adventure Pack for VOX Odyssey, the Discord based VOX game. These packs contain resources for use in the choose-your-own-adventure style game.

Another 31% of the Boxes contain a VOX NFT, potentially from any four of the existing series (Town Star, Mirandus, Walking Dead, and Trolls). And the grand prize, a Land Parcel, only has an 11.44% chance of being inside of a Mystery Box. Land can even be of Ancient rarity! We don’t know exactly how Land Parcels will function in the VOX universe, but land is generally a coveted type of NFT in the world of web3 gaming!

What are VOX?

VOX are unique, collectible characters. They are part of the Gala Games ecosystem and are meant for use in the Discord based game called VOX Odyssey, and the more ambitious VOXverse. Some VOXes are themed in partnership with other Gala projects, such as Walking Dead: Empires. These provide utility both in the VOX games and in their partner projects.

Players can also place their VOX into their towns in Townstar. If the player completes their daily challenges, the VOX will earn a bonus of TownCoin, based on the VOX rarity score. You can check a VOx’s score on Rarity Tools. In addition to this, VOX owners may receive a surprise airdrop from time to time!

Will Wright, the creator of The Sims, is on board the project as a lead designer. In a recent AMA, Will talked about how he would like the VOX’s activity and history to have a long-term effect. For example, if your VOX was harvesting some wood and had a tree fall on them, they would walk with a limp. Or if someone used their VOX for cooking in one game, then that VOX would have cooking skills in the VOXverse.

To help create the feeling of a living world, the upcoming web3 MMO, Mirandus, will include various tavern games, playable in-game. They’re now ready to put up a playtest for the first of these, a game called Three-Eyed Snake. Three-Eyed Snake is a dice rolling, gambling game for two to eight players. Players try to roll as many sixes as they can on three dice, though rolling three ones, or a Three-Eyed Snake, is also good.

Tavern Games Playtest Info

This Tavern Games playtest only runs for one day — from 10am PST December 20th until 10pm December 21st. Players don’t need to own any Mirandus NFTs to participate. This playtest is open to all. And, in fact, the Mirandus team says that the Tavern Games will always be open to everyone, even in the final release! However, you will need a Gala Games account to join, which is free to setup.

Players receive 30 copper coins every six hours to wager on the game. There is also a rumor that those who own Tavern NFTs will receive bonus copper coins, though it’s not mentioned in the official announcement. Any copper coins won are test coins only and will be wiped after the event. However, there are still prizes for the best players.

At the end of the playtest, the top 10 players receive $500 worth of Materium (MTRM), the game currency for Mirandus. In addition, the top player receives an exclusive #1 First Edition Concept Genesis Tankard! This is a real-life, physical mug that the winner can proudly wield at home for all of their ale drinking!

Aside from getting another look at what the Mirandus team dev team has been working on, it will be interesting to compare the fun and gameplay of this Three-Eyed Snake game to the tavern games available in Champions Ascension.

Having a sweet ride has always been an important part of many cultures. And in MMOs especially, the status symbol of an impressive steed can bring lots of attention to a character.

It’s likely that Mirandus will follow suit as they introduce the first mounts for their fantasy based MMO, the Firebrand Steed! Wreathed in fire and capable of unleashing firey attacks upon your enemies, the Firebrand Steed is likely to be highly coveted. The best of the breed, however, will cost quite a few pretty pennies!

Firebrand Steeds are considered Noble Steeds. And, as such, they have special abilities. For one, they can never truly die. Every Noble Steed has the power to resurrect themselves. In addition to the previously mentioned flame based attacks, Firebrand Steeds also provide light in dark areas. Larger than regular horses, Noble Steeds can breed, creating new generations. Something that regular horses cannot do.

Only available for a limited time, the Firebrand Steed availability begins with a 24 hour whitelist sale for anyone owning a Stable or a Rider of the North Exemplar. This whitelist sale is supposed to start on December 12th, but we haven’t been given an official start time. Presumably, the public sale will open sometime after that. Once the sale ends, any unpurchased Flamebrands will be burned.

A few of each rarity (except Ancient) will be held back and distributed to random Founder’s Node operators.

The prices for these Firebrand Steeds start at $75 for an Uncommon variety. However, the prices shoot up quickly from there – $2500 for a rare, $15k for an Epic, $75k for a legendary, and finally a whopping $250k for a single ancient horse.

Now, on top of this, all of the uncommon level Steeds will be Stallions only. In order to breed these horses, you need a Mare and a Stallion, locking access to the horse breeding side of the game behind a price that is almost enough to breed horses in real life!

Now, one might legitimately ask why Mirandus is having yet another NFT sale, when all we have seen from them are two, very minor demos, that were extremely laggy. It is certainly understandable that making an MMO from scratch is hard, but other web3 games have found ways to provide some sort of value and/or entertainment to their early supporters. But it’s beginning to feel like Mirandus is just asking for more handouts.

Nonetheless, I expect that the uncommon tier will sell out. And maybe, just maybe, someone decides to shell out $500k for a breeding pair of Ancient rarity Firebrand horses.

The dangerous world of Mirandus can be accessed by the finest warriors, crafters, and explorers. In the game, players must own or rent an Exemplar. The Exemplar is an avatar available in five fantasy races of humans such as human, elf, orc, dwarf or halfling. These characters will have special powers to help the players navigate and conquer foreign territories. There are a total of 1000 Exemplars in the game powered by blockchain technology. During the entire game period, this number will remain constant.

Mirandus has a player-driven economy, meaning that players own every item in the game, including lands and towns. Even the armory and clothes you wear would have been crafted by fellow players. A character will be naked initially, and players have to equip them with linen clothes or padded armor, leather armor, and brigandine armor.

In the game, players can craft items, buy, sell or trade using a substance called Materium. If players die, they can use Materium to cast a spell and return to the Mirandus world without penalty. Materium can also be used to complete a craft without all ingredients and teleport items to far away locations. So Materium is the most powerful thing in Mirandus world and allows players to perform magic. You can find Materium across the Mirandus world in monsters, chests, and secret locations.

Materium is an ERC-20 token that can be traded on secondary markets. The world of Mirandus is rich in Materium, and whoever finds it will become powerful. It allows teleportation of objects from vault to vault, player to player, and ensures speedy transport of valuable items. 

Players need all the required materials to craft items, but a particular material may be missing. Materium can be used as a substitute for these ingredients and to craft powerful armor and weapons. Besides teleportation and crafting abilities, Materium helps players heal wounds, increase speed and strength, harness magical powers, and use powerful spells. You can also purchase various NFTs from the store using Materium.

What is the Mirandus game?

A new, limited playtest opens in the world of Mirandus. In order to join, players need to have held a Mirandus Exemplar NFT in their wallet on June 17th, at 3pm PST. The snapshot was already taken, so you can’t buy one now and expect to get in. But for those already holding Exemplars, the playtest begins on June 21st.

Players have only one task. Login, and try to kill some dummy goblins using a bow. Seems pretty simple. Once you succeed in this quest, you’ll see a green checkmark in the user interface. And then, your job is done! This playtest will be for PC only. There is no Mac client at the moment. The playtest will remain live for at least two weeks.

Players earn rewards based on the number of Exemplars they own. But unlike the previous playtest, each player needs to only play once, and all of the Exemplar NFTs in their wallet will be counted. Also, anyone who plays and owns a Goblin Fortune card earns an extra 100 Materium per card held at the time of the snapshot. Materium is a magical element that works as an in-game currency but may have other uses as well. It can be removed from the game as an ERC-20 token.

Six different ship types go up for sale. Each one larger and faster than the last. From the Picard to the Caravel, each ship has a crew limit, determining how many friends can sail with you, and a cargo hold for bringing back loot and bounty. As you might imagine, the larger and more expensive ships have larger capacities.

Certain Exemplar classes seem primed for water-based adventures. Most notably, the Seafarers and the Cartographers! They might be good friends to have when sailing the high seas.

And of course, ship owners need a place to park their vessels. And for that we have Docks. Docks come in several sizes, each able to accommodate more and/or larger ships. Some of the largest ships will be too big for the smaller docks. The Modest Dock can only fit smaller ships such as the Picard, Crayer, and Hoy types. The larger sized Docks, Quays, Piers, and Wharfs, can hold the more substantial transports.

Unfortunately, we don’t know anything about how boat movement and sea adventures will actually work. Hopefully it won’t be like the old days of Ultima Online with ship traffic jams! It’s also unclear if docks will be standalone or need to be attached to a village deed.

This is a pre-sale. The dev team has promised an alpha playtest soon, but no word on a start date and no information about when you’ll be able to use your NFTs in-game.

All ownership over digital assets inside Mirandus is stored on the blockchain. Currently Mirandus supports Ethereum, Polygon, Binance Smart Chain and Flare Network.

Owning a piece of land provides a safe haven for other players, and potentially a way to make money. However, also without land you can earn, as shops will need wood, meat, and other items.

On December 6th a total of 8,888 unique Mirandus Vox characters will hit the market. These Vox characters represent the Exemplar heroes from Mirandus. Users who own both the Vox and the Exemplar from the same type, will unlock a boost inside Mirandus.

Every type of Exemplar will have its own companion Vox character. When the player has both NFTs, the Exemplar hero character receives a significant boost. Keep in mind, you will really need the same Vox and Exemplar. For example, a Mirandus Vox Bone Orc will only pair with a Bone Orc Exemplar; a Vox Darksun Elf will only pair with a Darksun Elf Exemplar. 

In addition the Mirandus Vox NFT avatars will have utility in Town Star Play-to-Earn Season 2. Placing them inside their farm will make players eligible for extra daily TOWN token rewards. However, the earnings will be lower than the earnings from the Town Star Vox characters. Further down the road Gala Games will introduce VoxVerse, and VoxCoin. Gala keeps referring to their Vox characters as ‘avatars that DeFi’.

Tell me more about the Vox NFT sale

On December 6th Gala Games will sell a new collection of Vox avatars, this time based on the upcoming online role playing game Mirandus. These NFTs will be available in the Gala Games Store, which means that the sale will happen without needing to worry about gas wars. However, there will be two gas fees: one for the purchase of the Vox Box and one to mint and reveal the Vox at a later date.

The Mirandus Vox collection will consist of only 8888 NFT avatars. Some will go the node holders and gold members, a couple will go to users who had issues during the previous Vox sale. The remaining ones will sell through a primary sale in the Gala Games Store. This also means that buyers will need GALA to pay for the NFT and some ETH to cover the gas fees.

Mirandus playtest coming soon

Gala Games has announced earlier this month that the upcoming MMORPG Mirandus will have a playtest in December during which players can earn Materium, an in-game token. Generally speaking, you could say the Materium will become the main utility token for the Mirandus universe. 

Gala Games describes Materium as a magical essence, even though it’s of course simply a token on the blockchain. However, inside the game world this essence allows players to enchant their weapon, or enforce their armor. Gamers can also use it to make elixirs and potions, or magically teleport items from one location to the other.

All players will need to earn the newly announced token is an Exemplar, a legendary NFT game character. You can buy the Exemplar NFT characters right now on the Gala Games website. The cheapest is like 3300 GALA, or roughly $1100. Those most expensive ones are more than $35.000. Each of those Exemplar heroes have certain traits that make them a specialist in for example hunting, crafting or fighting.

Having a keep or some other base close to a dungeon entrance, will provide all kinds of opportunities for trade. Players can buy land tiles with certain functionalities and drop these anywhere in the game world. Other players could open a shop in that village, and pay rent to the mayor. All ownership over digital assets inside Mirandus is stored on the blockchain. Currently Mirandus supports Ethereum, Polygon, Binance Smart Chain and Flare Network.

When Mirandus launches there will be five citadels, the biggest cities in the game world. These give the owner the right to create and lead their own faction, charge taxes on trade and so on. Owning a piece of land provides a safe haven for other players, and potentially a way to make money. However, also without land you can earn, as shops will need wood, meat, and other items.
