Mini-Royale launches into Season 5 of their browser-based FPS with a new clan wars format, new heroes, new weapons, new missions, a new battle pass, and even a new map editor! With the nautical theme of Pirate Booty, expect to see some interesting hero and weapon skins this season!

Avast matey! It’s time to start earning nautical themed character and weapon skins with Pirate Booty, the latest seasonal content for Mini-Royale! You can jump right into Mini-Royale, the browser-based FPS, and start playing, no NFTs required. Though there are certain perks that come with owning items from the latest season.

Mini-Royale is free to play — no purchase required. But advancing through the battle pass is helped tremendously by owning and staking an NFT hero from the current season. Also, there are a number of missions that require owning a hero or weapon skin from the latest season.

Seasons in Mini-Royale revolve around owning and minting character and weapon skins from the latest release. These are created from Shards, which can be acquired in-game from battle pass and mission rewards, or purchased via a ‘Pirate Booty Drop‘. In this drop, players buy boxes which contain a random selection and rarity of Shards. Gather enough Shards of the same rarity and same hero and you can combine them into a usable game item that can also be minted into an NFT! For those who want to skip the assembly part, Heroes are available for purchase from other players on Magic Eden.

What else is new in Season 5?

Mini-Royale has also added a PvE, Campaign mode, as a way to introduce new players to the game. The Campaign mode gives players certain objectives to achieve when playing. Completing these objectives earns Star points, which unlock new objectives and chapters. Along the way players also earn Orbs and Shards.

In addition, a new map hits the game servers. Called Paradisa, this is the first map that was designed by someone outside of the Faraway team. Expect to see more maps in the near future as Mini-Royale plans to open up map-making to everyone!

Recently, Mini-Royale announced their creator program. This program allows players to create custom, 3D skins for the game and sell them to other players. A few weeks ago they made another creator based announcement. This time about maps. Partnering with a company called Hiber, Mini-Royale wants users to create their own maps with the Hiber 3D Editory and import them into the game. The Hiber3D editor already comes loaded with hundreds of objects and textures. It features a drag and drop building system, with the goal of making map creation accessible for everyone.

Faraway is working with Hiber to create a seamless import system that will allow players to create maps specifically for Mini Royale. Expect this functionality to become available sometime soon!

What is Mini-Royale?

Mini-Royale is a web-based FPS running on the Solana blockchain created by a company called Faraway. It is free to play, though owners of Premium NFTs receive bonus points towards their Battle Pass ranking with every match. The game runs in a web browser and supports both random, and public games, as well as private matches.

Mini-Royale offers a few different game modes such as Team Deathmatch, Battle Royale, and Capture the Flag. Team size maxes out at five players, though you can also play with fewer. PvP matches are generally quick and action-packed. Mini-Royale includes leaderboards and clan (guild) competitions.

Players earn character experience, gain battle pass points, and level up their items by playing the game. Along the way, they also earn special weapons and avatar skins. Some of these can be minted to the blockchain as NFTs once they’ve been leveled up. Mini-Royale currently only accepts the Phantom wallet for wallet connections. The team continually works on improving the gameplay as well as expanding and upgrading the game visuals and maps.

Mini-Royale recently added the ability for users to create and monetize their own avatar skins, and plans to add map creation to their set of user tools as well.

Mini-Royale brings a new create and earn system to their user base. You don’t even need to be a player. Anyone with the eye and skill to create cool, custom skins can earn money by selling them in-game!

It’s the time for modders in Mini-Royale as they open up a new create and earn system. This system allows users to create custom skins for the game’s characters and weapons, and receive a percentage of the sales income!

Getting paid as a modder is not always easy in the world of regular gaming. But web3 gaming is breaking those old molds in many ways. And one of them is the monetization of user created content. No longer do modders need to set up a Patreon and ask for donations. Now they can easily receive a rightful portion of the sales made with their creations!

Faraway, the parent company of the Mini-Royale game, opens up the first phase of their Creator system. This system will expand over time, but for now, creations are limited to textures (skins) for existing Season 4 characters and weapons from Mini-Royale.

The creator system is open to everyone. Anyone can download the character pack, create their own textures, and submit them for acceptance. Creators who have their content accepted will receive 50% of the SOL spent for their items!

Creators can also apply to become a Sponsored Creator once they have five approved skins in the marketplace. Sponsored Creators can get their creations listed on the official Faraway Marketplace (coming soon) for greater exposure. And they can also open their own, personalized Storefront and receive 90% of the sales made there! In addition, Sponsored Creators receive a guaranteed income of $250 USDC each month! However, they can’t just sit back and count their free money. Sponsored Creators must maintain an output of at least 10 approved creations every month.

Read the official creation guide for more details. You can download the files and submit entries on the Faraway site.

Where do I find these custom skins?

For now these custom skins are only available via the in-game character page. Select a Season 4 item in your inventory, and at the bottom will be the various options available.

Farway also plans to build the Farway Shop, a web-based marketplace where creators can customize a storefront to promote their creations.

Web3 gaming and music come together in a partnership between Mini-Royale and Audius. Mini-Royale players can now listen to music streamed from Audius, a decentralized music streaming platform, while in-game!

Mini-Royale and Audius team up to create a cross-app, cross-chain collaboration. Streaming music and web3 gaming meetup as players can now stream tracks from the Audius platform via a built-in player on the Mini-Royale site!

It’s cool to see these partnerships develop as the web3 space starts to become more integrated. I can forsee a future where players are driving around a virtual world in their vehicle of choice, choosing from a selection of radio stations that are created by curators from around the world and streaming decentrally distributed music controlled and owned by the artists!

But for now, an integrated in-game player is a start! Users can access the player through the settings menu.

What is Audius?

Audius is a decentralized, music streaming platform built on Ethereum and Solana. It featuries distributed nodes run by users, with artist controlled musical tracks. New users to the platform can earn a few tokens by completing basic tasks such as completing their profile and creating playlists. Audius also gives out weekly rewards to the top trending playlists and tracks. In addition, listeners can use AUDIO tokens to directly tip their favorite artists.

Audius includes its own token, AUDIO which can be staked to access extra services on the platform and by node operators to run the Audius protocol. Any staked AUDIO token also receives governance votes.

Audius just recently added a TikTok integration allowing users to embed songs from Audius into the videos. Users can access Audius through their webpage or via apps available for iOS and Android devices. With thousands of daily users and a potential token listing on Coinbase, Audius is poised to become more than just a niche market.

Gaming ecosystems are growing increasingly common in the world of web3 development. And one of the latest to expand is Mini-Royale, which introduces us to the first public alpha of Faraway Land, a town-building game that offers players the ability to craft NFTs for Mini-Royale!

Mini-Royale, a Solana-based, play-in-your-browser FPS, recently opened up a public alpha for Faraway Land, a town building, product making game where players will be able to craft Gear NFTs for use in the Mini-Royale game!

Apparently, this is NOT the official land gameplay for Mini-Royale. It is instead a different, cross-project game.

Faraway Land alpha screenshot

What is Faraway Land?

Faraway Land is a town building game similar to Town Star. Players construct buildings, make products, sell them, and buy and upgrade more buildings to create increasingly complex products. The higher level the building or product, the longer it takes to complete. Players can speed up production by spending BUTTER, a token reward from Mini-Royale. BUTTER is also used to open up new production spots in buildings.

The town will need people and power as well, so players must also construct housing, and power supplies such as solar panels and wind turbines. Some buildings are gated by population or player level. When players run out of room for their town, they can clear areas for further construction. They can also sell goods via a delivery system. However, this a quest sort of feature where players can only sell goods that are requested in the black market.

Players gain experience as they construct new buildings and complete products. Higher levels open up more building options. Players receive rewards at each level in the form of Cash and in-game goods. They can also receive Blueprints, which will be needed to make the Factories to construct Gear items. The game requires 12 duplicate blueprints in order to construct a Factory. Factories produce Gear which players can later mint into NFTs through Mini-Royale.

Each town can only have one Factory, so choose wisely!

Faraway Land Alpha

Since this an early alpha test, expect everything to be wiped at least once and many changes to be introduced into the game. But be warned! Any and all BUTTER tokens spent in this alpha will be taken from your wallet and not refunded! So you might want to think twice before you open those extra slots or pay for a rush completion.

The game is still in its early development stages. More features and polish will be introduced as development progresses. Faraway Land uses the same login credentials as Mini-Royale. So you don’t need to reset your password when trying to join the game like I did.

Also, as a reward to testers, the Mini-Royale team will take a snapshot of the game’s players on February 28th. All players who reached level 24 or higher in Faraway Land will be entered in a raffle to potentially win 250 Shards for Mini-Royale.

The game is pretty standard for its type. But it was fun to play and is easily something you can have open in a separate browser window while you’re doing other things. Players can access the game at https://land.faraway.com/ and read the official (though not completely up to date), documentation here.

Mini-Royale brings a new facet to their web-based FPS, Gear. Players can now create and equip various Gear NFTs to provide extra bonuses and stats to their Heroes!

Mini-Royale launched their latest season in early December, and now bring us a new gear system for Hero skins. Equipping Gear adds permanent bonuses to that Hero NFT!

Players can attach Gear items to a Hero Skin, as long as the Hero exists as an NFT. Players can mint Hero Skins they acquire in-game if they are at least level 20, and the item is level 10 or higher. Then the player pays a fee of 0.8 SOL (plus transaction costs) to mint the item.

Gear in Mini-Royale
Gear in Mini-Royale

Gear in Mini-Royale

Players have six Gear types available — Rings, Necklaces, Watches, Bracelets, Perfume, and Belts. Each Hero has one open slot per Gear type.

Players can either buy Gear from Magic Eden, or create it through Fusion contracts. Fusion contracts require a player level of 44, and a Hero who was minted through the Fusion Lab. Players use the Fusion Lab to burn specific NFTs to create a new, limited edition item that usually offers a bonus in the current Clan War event.

Gear must be minted before it can be equipped, and can be minted as an NFT from level 1. Gear comes with Alignment and Allegiance stats. If the Gear has an alignment, it can only be worn by a Hero with the same alignment, or one who is flagged as ‘Morally Flexible’. Gear that matches the Allegiance of the Hero receives a stat bonus. Gear also comes in sets. Equip multiple items from the same set for extra bonuses.

If players wish to remove Gear from a Hero, they must pay a fee in Butter tokens. The fee ranges from 25 Butter for an uncommon gear item, all the way up to 250 Butter for a legendary item. Players can acquire Butter in-game by completing quests, gaining levels, and advancing their battle pass rank.

Equipping Gear also increases the Power Level of the Hero, which will have an effect when PvE mode is added.

Season 4

Mini-Royale is currently in Season 4, called Season of the Samurai. In addition to a new set of NFTs, a new Battle Pass, and a new map, season 4 also brought Character Shards to the game. Now, instead of giving away a whole character or weapon skin at once, Mini-Royale can dole it out to the players in little pieces at a time. This is an understandable decision to control NFT inflation in their game economy, but it still feels kind of crappy as a casual player that is going to end up with just a few shards of dozens of different items.

Season 4 also brings the addition of SOL rewards for the individual and Clan leaderboards. A portion of the funds spent buying special, limited edition Character Shard boxes will help boost the size of the reward pools. These new SOL rewards are in addition to the standard BUTTER and NFT rewards for Clan events.

Thoughts about Mini-Royale

Mini-Royale has built a complex and rather confusing series of boosts, staking, forging, fusing, enriching, battle passes, quests, contracts, levels, and some sort of psuedo-strategic guild war functionality that I still don’t completely understand.

And while technically, Mini-Royale is free to play and play to earn, actually reaching the earning point as a free to play player requires significant grind. Otherwise, you can invest some money, earn and mint new NFTs, and hopefully sell those to other players. Mini-Royale does have an NFT staking system, encouraging players to hold their NFTs off the markets, but as the number of NFTs in the game grows, this either becomes unsustainable, or they are forced to continue to diminish the value of the older weapon and character skins.

All of that being said, Mini-Royale is still a decent choice if you just want to hop on and start shooting. The game runs in a web browser and matches are generally pretty short. I love the ease of being able to jump into a quick game.

Mini-Royale launches into Season 3 with improved graphics, a new battle pass, the introduction of Clan Wars, and the addition of the Fusion Lab. This Solana-based FPS is rapidly adding features and expanding their play and earn economy.

Mini-Royale used to feel like the little FPS that could. It was simple, with pixelated graphics. But it ticked some important checkboxes such as blockchain-enabled, play and earn capabilities, and easy to use (it runs in a web browser window). But, with the advent of Season 3 and other additions they have made along the way, Mini-Royale seems ready to run with the big dogs!

Season 3 of Mini-Royale brings the regular sort of updates one would expect with a new season such as a new Battle Pass and new Premium Heroes. In addition, we have 60 new mission groups. These come in the form of Daily Quests, Season Quests, Special Quests, and Brutal Quests. Daily Quests are available to everyone, but the other type of quests have a minimum level requirement.

We also have the introduction of Clan wars. Players earn points by participating in these multi-day events. Each Clan War has a specific focus such as Raiding or Staking. Players earn more points for participating in the War focus but can still earn points in other ways. The Clans can spend these points on buildings, defense, and even nukes! The Clans at the top of the leaderboards at the end of the event earn special prizes.

Mini Royale Quests

And though it’s not yet released yet, Mini Royale also plans to implement Item Shards. Shards are found through various prize mechanics and players assemble Shards to create new weapons they can use in-game.

Fusion Lab

The Fusion Lab is a new feature in Mini-Royale: Nations that allows players to unlock special heroes and weapons. There are three types of Fusion — Premium Hero, Loot Hero, and Weapon. For Season 3, the Fusion Lab is the only way to create Epic or Legendary Heroes. By Fusing together multiple lower rarity Heroes, players create special skins and these higher rarity Heroes.

Items used in the Fusion process must be minted NFTs. Burning game NFTs to create new, rarer NFTs is a common mechanic with blockchain games. This helps the game developers control NFT inflation, while also rewarding those who are more active participants in the game.

The recipes for the Mini Royale Fusion Lab will be released in three waves. Wave 1 is live now, and new waves are expected to follow around the beginning of the following months.

The latest NFT release from Mini Royale, a nautical-themed selection of costumes and items, was designed in partnership with Sank Toys, a real-life collectible creator. With only 3,888 items up for grabs, this collection quickly sold out. And with special airdrops, as well as access to an exclusive event that offers limited edition Sank Loot prizes, it’s understandable that these NFTs were in high demand.

Mini Royale, a web-based FPS shooter integrated with the Solana blockchain, has been building on their game over each ‘Season’. Having just completed Season 2, Mini Royale kicks off Season 3 with a bang. Or maybe a bubble? Their collaboration with the real-life collectible maker, Sank Toys, brings specially themed avatar characters to the game — with a few bonuses as well.

Sank Special NFT Collection

Mini Royale / Sank NFT
Mini Royale NFT from the Sank collection

These generative, avatar skins / NFTs offer more than just a stylish look in Mini Royale. Players who hold Sank Heroes also receive Season 3 Premium Hero NFTs. For every pair of Sank Hero + Loot Collection item (from any season), the holder will be airdropped a Premium NFT. And just to be clear, that means you need one each of a Sank Hero and a Loot item. If you have multiples of both, you receive multiple airdropped NFTs.

Sank Hero holders also have access to a special Scavenger Hunt. This Hunt begins on July 7th and runs for six weeks. Prizes from the Scavenger Hunt include special Sank Loot that cannot be acquired otherwise! After the first four weeks, players will be able to earn the legendary Skull & Bones Character skin, and the legendary Sank Super Soaker weapon.

This multi-week adventure features extra special rewards for the first three players who finish the complete quest and send their Sank Super Soaker reward to the Sank Lab Wallet. They receive a special 1 of 3, legendary, unique variation of the weapon, as well as prizes in USDC ($500, $300, and $200 based on placement).

The mint price for this collection was 1.5 SOL. And, at the moment, you can find a few below the mint price on the secondary markets.

What is Mini Royale: Nations?

With the full title of Mini Royale: Nations, you might guess that this is something more than just a first-person shooter game. And you would be right! The Mini Royale whitepaper states that the team plans to build a land control strategy game that sits underneath the FPS game. Exactly how this will work is unclear, but it seems that land will be used for crafting, and landowners earn fees from players using their land. They also talk of public land, usable by anyone.

Mini Royale Sank loot
special, limited edition Sank loot

Apparently, there will be a staking game tied to land control (this is different than ownership). Players who stake the most guns to land can win control. Those with land control of the land, receive up to 50% of the earned fees! As for the token economy, the team plans for no less than seven different currencies. And while only two will be on-chain, it feels a little much for an FPS game. Though, I guess once land gameplay is implemented, the number of tokens will make more sense.

As for the FPS game itself, it’s team-based, features up to 5 players on a side, and has several different game modes such as Battle Royale, Capture the Flag, and Team Deathmatch. The game is free to play, though those who hold certain Premium NFTs level up faster and receive other benefits. PvP matches are generally action-packed. The maps are relatively small and spawn camping is sometimes a thing.

Players earn character experience, gain battle pass points, and level up their items by playing the game. Along the way, they also earn special weapons and avatar skins. Players can mint some of the skins to the blockchain as NFTs. Mini-Royale only accepts the Phantom wallet for wallet connections.

Continuing the trend for 2022, June sees more excitement in the world of blockchain gaming. And though the Farsite alpha is delayed until July, there is still much happening during the month of June. In fact, the blockchain gaming world never seems to sleep! So let’s take a quick look at a few games that have something to keep a watch on this month.

While the bulk of the gaming world still scoffs at the idea of NFTs (all while more than willing to sink money into closed system gaming markets) and thinks they are nothing more than overly expensive JPGs, the blockchain gaming world continues to move forward. And that is readily apparent with the steady stream of game updates, alpha releases, and new mints. Read on to discover a few games to keep an eye on in June!

Splinterlands New Reward System

Though not a new game, the release of the new rewards system in Splinterlands is making some waves in the community. This new system discourages the use of bots at low levels, and encourages players to either own, or rent their own cards. And though already robust, the rental and secondary sales markets should see an increase in activity as players settle into the updated reward system.

Splinterlands also continues to sell licenses for their upcoming validator nodes. The first batch sold out in 11 minutes!

Uplift World – DAO Token Airdrop

Though Uplift World was the first to build a blockchain game on top of Minecraft, they have faded a bit from public consciousness over the past year. But that should reverse course as the Uplift World prepares to drop the first phase of their DAO token and jumpstart community governance of the project. Uplift World runs on the WAX ecosystem.

Mini Royale: Nations, the free, browser based FPS on the Solana blockchain, adds new play to earn potential to the game with the ability to mint NFTs. Players who level up their battlepass have the option of minting certain items and then trading them on secondary markets. With this addition, Mini-Royal joins a small, but slowly growing, selection of games that offers free to play and play and earn all in one package!

Grab a weapon, jump into this FPS that runs in a browser, and start earning some NFTs! It’s free! And while earning items is technically open to everyone, it is a bit of work to get up to the levels needed to actually mint items. You’ll need to be a pretty dedicated player. However, those who stake special, ‘premium’ NFTs, earn points towards their battle pass and have access to some items that regular players do not.

In order to mint an item in Mini Royale, the item must be mintable. This is noted with a gold icon in the upper right corner when it’s in your inventory. A player must also be at least level 20, and pay a minting fee of 0.035 SOL. In the near future, the team plans to additionally require that the item must be level 10 or higher. Though, since the weapon leveling system is not yet implemented, I imagine they’ll want to wait until that feature is in place.

NFT items for Mini Royale are skins for players and weapons, not the weapons themselves. Thus, when players upgrade their weapon level, it affects all versions of that weapon, no matter the skin used. And the skins are not always just visuals. They can also include perks such as faster reloading or larger magazines.

What is Mini Royale: Nations?

With a full title of Mini Royale: Nations, you might guess that this is something more than just a first-person shooter game.

Mini Royal sample weapon skins

As for the FPS game itself, it’s team-based, features up to 5 players on a side, and has several different game modes (Battle Royal, Capture the Flag, and Team Deathmatch). The game is free to play, though those who hold certain Premium NFTs level up faster and receive some other benefits. PvP matches are generally action-packed. The maps are relatively small and spawn camping is sometimes a thing. Also, matchmaking needs some work. All of my matches included players of level 50+, even though I’m only level 2. This led to some frustrating experiences, though to be honest, I’m not that great at these types of FPS games.

Players earn character experience, gain battle pass points, and level up their items by playing the game. Along the way, they earn special weapons and avatar skins. Some of those skins can be minted to the blockchain as NFTs. Mini-Royale only accepts the Phantom wallet for wallet connections.
