Lost Relics, the number one ARPG on Enjin, just got new features. Now players have secret stashes, can create their own dungeon and there are new slots to equip more relics. This is a big update, and this dungeon crawler is slowly getting better and better.

Cliff Cawley, the main developer, added a lot of new features and changes to the game. Players have a few slots to equip gear like weapons, swords, armor and relics.
Before the update, 5 relics could be equipped, but now Cliff added an additional slot.

Player in a Lost Relics adventure

This will allow for increased customization and it will boost the demand for relics. Besides this, the inventory was also expanded and now counts with 2 extra inventory slots. This will allow players to carry more items like healing potions for example.

With these changes, the everyday life of Lost Relics’ adventurers just got way easier. More coal mines were also added, which will allow players to gather more of this material. Coal has an important role in Lost Relics’ economy and crafting professions.

Coal Mine
Lost Relics Coal Mine

One thing dedicated players complained about was all the time lost going from the portal, which leads to every instance, to the city. This route had to be done every time to unload all the loot and get items for the next adventure.

Cliff fixed this issue by adding secret stashes. After each adventure, players can now access their secret stash that has 5 slots. For every slot 1,000 of each item can be stored. Then, if players feel like it’s their lucky day, the new Raffle system is now added!

Raffle

With this system, players can buy up to ten raffle tickets, each costing 1,000 gold, and every 48 hours ten winners will be announced. Rewards can go from simple in-game items to rare NFTs. Last but not least, the greatest addition to the game: The Dreamscape.

The Dreamscape gives players the ability to create their own instances. There are different parameters like:

  • Difficulty
  • Monster types, quantity, and limits
  • Dreamscape theme
  • Weather
  • Time of day

Everything a player does in this custom instance will be reset at the end. Items spent will be refilled, dying won’t make players lose their items, etc. Besides this, players can invite their friends to test their own Dreamscape experience.

Other minor features are also added, like gifting, Discord integration with Lost Relics account, the ability to favorite production skill recipes and an enhanced friends list.

Conclusion

Lost Relics is slowly heading in the right direction. With every update, the gameplay is getting more advanced. But, are these new features enough to withstand against other web3 games?
There are identical web3 ARPGs popping up in the NFT Gaming space right now such as Ember Sword, Synergy Land, and Guild of Guardians. Personally, I think these games will bring a lot of features that are lacking in Lost Relics, like skills, classes, stats, and a more engaging combat system.

That being said, I believe that Cliff has to speed up the development of this game, or part of the community might leave to join these more appealing web3 games.

What is Lost Relics?

Lost Relics is an instance-based ARPG on the Enjin ecosystem. In this game, players adventure themselves into dungeons filled with monsters, traps and other dangers to get loot. This loot can go from in-game consumables and materials to NFTs that can be sold on a marketplace for profit.

An interesting feature is that if players die in an instance they instantly lose all their non-NFT items.

In Lost Relics, unlike other games of the same genre, how strong your character is depends entirely on its gear.  Besides that, there’s only solo mode even though the community believes that co-op will be introduced in one of the next updates.

Lost Relics is an adventure role playing game in which you venture in dungeons filled with monsters and traps looking for NFT items. An ambitious project released in 2019, but with new projects coming out every week and big studios joining the NFT gaming space, does Lost Relics stand a chance, and is it still worth playing the game?

What is Lost Relics?

Lost Relics, previously know as Forgottern Artifacts, was released on May 23rd 2019. Players were able to play the pre-alpha version and start collecting NFTs on this Enjin play to earn ARPG!

Cliff Cawley, the one-man army developing the game had the vision before anyone else. Developing a play to earn game that was looking like diablo or torchlight and introducing NFT items way before it became the big trend it is now.

In this game you go into dungeons filled with monsters and traps and have to survive and find the exit!
In each dungeon there will be chests that can have gold or shadowstones, two of the game virtual currencies or virtual items.

Gold is used mostly to buy items like food from other players to heal your character while in a dungeon! Shadowstones can be used to buy items from the game’s marketplace. This marketplace allows players to trade blockchain items directly in-game, without any gas fees.

So, when you go to the marketplace, the Emporyum, you can either buy virtual items with gold or NFTs with Shadowstones.

Since you can’t see other players this is one of the only way right now to interact with them. The other is through the global chat system. In the future Cliff already mentioned that we’re going to have co-op dungeons!

In order to get started in Lost Relics you just need to go to their website, register and wait. If you don’t want to wait you can always buy a 7-day pendant that will give you instant access to the game. Pendants give you lots of benefits like access to premium dungeons for example! Worth to invest in one if you’re playing the game frequently!

This project has been receiving new updates where we’ve been seeing new maps, new monsters, new professions and new items!

Four months ago everything changed for Lost Relics and there’s the rumor that a brand new BIG update would come out really soon!

The initial hype is partially lost..

Lost Relics lost a bit the hype that it once had when it was released and we’re seeing new projects in NFT Gaming getting much more traction than Lost Relics, despite being around for 2 years.

I believe there are multiple reasons why this happened.

Bad play-to-earn mechanics

The first one is that the play-to-earn mechanics are not well thought. I’ve spent countless hours grinding in Lost Relics dungeons and my NFT collection in this game is worth 68 enjin, that’s around 88 USD if I’m able to sell all my items.

It’s very rare that an NFT drops while exploring a dungeon, and if it does, they are usually worth not more than a few dollars. My rarest weapon is an epic blockchain bow that costs $20 USD at the moment. I had to play the game very regularly for 3 months to find such an item…

The competition is heating up

The second reason is that when Lost Relics was released, there wasn’t much of a competition. But that is changing fast with big titles like Guild of Guardians, Ember Sword and Synergy lands coming out this year!

These projects are being backed by a full development team that can bring new features much faster than what is being done in Lost Relics.

Also these games are going to come out with a bunch of features that are missing in Lost Relics like skills and classes for example. In Lost Relics, the combats are still too simple, left click for normal attack and right click for a special attack. Special attacks have the same animation as the normal ones, so you won’t even notice the difference!

A bit too repetitive

Another thing is that the game is just too repetitive. If you don t own the pendant that gives you access to the premium dungeons you’ll spend lots of time grinding the same dungeons over and over even though dungeons are randomly generated.

Enjin was the first gaming blockchain

Enjin didn t have that much competition two years ago. But over the past year, we have seen many blockchain games being developed on Polygon, BNB Chain, WAX or Solana.

But there is still potential

Even though the project is facing many challenges, I believe that Lost Relics still has a lot of potential. Lost Relics is still the only playable ARPG in NFT Gaming!

Cliff is releasing updates at a faster pace and we’ve been seeing the world of Lost Relics receiving lots of new features.

It has a small but loyal community with lots of streamers and content creators.

The game is fun to play. There’s some thrill when you re in a dungeon and you fall into a trap, run out of healing items and you have to find the exit in order to keep your items.

Personally, I like to play it casually. It’s a fun game but not the game that gets me hooked into my computer for countless hours.

If you’re into Lost Relics I recommend you check this video that will give you some tips and tricks and will increase your odds of surviving in this game’s hardest dungeons!

There’s a good rush of dopamine every time I slay a boss or open a chest. You never know what might be dropped. It can be just gold, Shadowstones or a very rare NFT!

When it comes to rarities Blockchain items go from common to transcendent.  And some of those Blockchain items are really expensive like this bow being sold on Enjinx for more than $2,000.

Obviously dropping one of this is like winning the lottery; your chances are really low.

The game is still in Alpha, so obviously this isn’t the final product. And the truth is that, until now, no other game managed to have a decent and sustainable economy on the long-run.

Maybe Axie Infinity had it for a few months, but that is over. Pegaxy still has it, but we’re seeing a decrease in PGX, VIS and the price of pegas themselves.

Maintaining a stable economy in a videogame has been a struggle and the ones who achieved it only did it for a short period of time.

From my perspective Cliff should try to get some investors to back this project and hire a development team to speed up the process of building this game, because there is potential here!

The game has good graphics, fluid gameplay and, even though it’s incomplete, it manages to get around 1,500 players playing every day!

So… Is it worth playing Lost Relics in 2022?

When choosing to invest time in a game, I always ask myself 2 questions: Is it fun? How much can I earn?

From my experience, Lost Relics is fun to play casually. If you grind too much you will get tired of it because of the lack of content, which is completely acceptable in an Alpha!

And to the second question the answer is: not enough!

So play the game just for fun if you like it, it’s good for an alpha version. But don’t expect to get a decent source of income by doing so!

if the player-base increases, the demand for the game’s NFTs should increase as well. So it could be a viable option to grind some NFTs and hold on to them.

If this happens or not will depend entirely on Cliff Cawley, the one-man army behind Lost Relics. But it would certainly be a shame to see Lost Relics, one of the first NFT game, being forgotten and disappear.

The NFT-powered dungeon crawler Lost Relics has received a major update adding a competitive element to the mix. In addition the game adds lots of new crafting options, interface improvements, skill updates and much more. One of the newest mechanics, is Forging. However, this skill is only available to members of the game.

First launched in 2019 as Forgotten Artifacts, Lost Relics is a grandfather in terms of blockchain gaming! But like a fine wine, Lost Relics continues to improve with age, polishing, improving, and adding additional content and complexity over the years.

Lost Relics is a 3rd person fantasy adventure game running on the Enjin blockchain. Though multiplayer, the game is PvE exclusive, but this latest update does add a competitive leaderboard challenge to the mix. Players adventure, find loot, craft items, and level up.

Crafting and forging in Lost Relics

Patch 189 introduces a new crafting skill, Forging. Only available to Members, Forging allows the creation of ingots from ores. Going forward, mining and woodcutting tools require ingots. Forgers also create in-game armor and weapons. Assemble pieces of an armor set on the Armor Assembly Stand to build new, custom armor! Once assembled, armor becomes account bound. The individual armor pieces, however, can be traded before they are combined.

example assembled Armor

Assembled amor provides various bonuses and must be equipped in the Armor slot. Only one set of armor may be taken into an Adventure, and it will be lost if the player dies while wearing it.

As for other skills, Engineers can now tan hides on the Tanning Frame to create leather armor, and threads on the Spinning Wheel for bowstrings.

This patch also brings a new rarity of gathering tools to even out the progression and leveling experience. Gathering nodes now have a rarity and require the appropriate rarity tool for harvesting. Experience gains for gathering have changed to be based on the rarity of resource found rather than the tool. So finding an empty resource node results in no experience gain.

Breakable Items

All virtual (ie, not on the blockchain) tools and weapons now have a limited lifespan. After a certain time of usage (longer for higher rarities), there is a random chance that the item will break when used. Items broken during adventures still last until that adventure is complete.

breakable item in Lost Relics

The game issues alerts when an item becomes badly damaged, and another when it breaks completely. Breakable items cannot be repaired. Blockchain items won’t break.

Adventure Updates and new Game Mode

All Adventures and their resources have seen an update. Shadowstones can drop during adventures. Opening chests in Adventures requires Golden Chest Keys, which players can only find while on that Adventure. Keys cannot be removed from the Adventure. A new competitive mode, Graveyard Rumble, offers amazing prizes for those who finish in the top three spots.

The premise is simple. Enter the Graveyard and defeat as many monsters as you can before dying. The top 10 players make it to the leaderboard. The competition ends on October 15th and requires level 10 to enter. The devs promise more game modes such as this in future releases. Though the entrance for the Graveyard Rumble is hidden, I’m sure that players who poke around the town a bit can find it, and the rewards are pretty sweet!

Other Changes

The Tool Slot becomes a Tool Belt, allowing players to equip one of each tool type. No more tool swapping or inventory space required! Since this addition obsoletes the level 5 Champion Reward, level 5 players instead get access to a Stash Deposit at Adventure Pass. No more running back to the inn after each adventure!

The developers added many new weapon effects to the game, using fun names such as Oathkeeper and Reign of Fire! To find out what they do, players complete a quest called Powerful Knowledge that unlocks an in-game encyclopedia of all the items.

In another change, blockchain resources that were required for crafting virtual items are switched over to virtual versions. Any Meredite Ingots, Odenium Ingots, Ivory Barley Grains, Gold Oak, Purple Irim Mushroom, Starlight, and Shoraway Coral Weed have been exchanged for new relics.

Players can now swap Shadowstones, which allows them to trade blockchain items in-game, to JENJ. They also increasing the marketplace trading fee to four percent. This extra charge will populate a Shadowstone treasury, which allows Shadowstones to drop during Adventures.

Also receiving an update, the website shop now allows players to make purchases through five payment options, Shadowstones, Binance, Crypto.com, Enjin smart wallet, and via credit card. This is great for making the game more accessible to a wider audience.

There certainly is a lot to digest in this update. The connecting of Forging with other crafting is a great start towards building a robust player economy. And the addition of new weapon effects and armor should make any dungeon diver salivate at the idea of fresh loot. Begin your Adventure today in Lost Relics.

What is Lost Relics?

Lost Relics is a blockchain-powered dungeon crawler. Players embark on dangerous adventures in search of resources and loot! In this third-person action role-playing game, adventurers need to defeat monsters, find loot and make it to the end of the maze. One mistake could lose players a fortune.

Lost Relics, the dungeon crawling MMO built on Enjin, has released a huge update, adding new features and adventures, bringing the total to 15. Once inside the new dungeons and adventures new surprises await. Some rooms may be traps, locking the players inside until the monsters are defeated. There will also be mini-bosses to fight, new loot to discover, and old foes strengthened to provide a more challenging experience.

With this update, Lost Relics boasts 30 new monsters. The developers have promoted some monsters to mini-boss status. Others have received the ability to summon allies to fight by their side. Monster damage and health values received some tweaks, so any returning players would be wise to proceed cautiously at first.

To battle these new foes, a number of new weapon drops have been added to the game. Players can now find Rare items such as the Scorpion Stinger, the Epic Scarcarver, and the Legendary sword Black Death!

Both players and monsters can now score critical hits (extra damage) when attacking, so be sure to stock up on healing items before any adventure! The interface for Explosive items has been improved to show damage range and an estimated countdown. Poison and Stun effects now have a chance to apply rather than occurring with every attack.

Bows have been broken into two categories — the longbow, which offers more range and damage, and the shortbow, useful for quick attacks. All existing weapons have undergone a stat adjustment. Players can now see more details about their weapon damage values by holding down the SHIFT-button before hovering over an item.

Player Quality of Life Changes

This latest update to Lost Relics includes a number of additional interface and quality of game improvements. For example, when transferring items, players can hold down the CTRL key to exclude tools. This helps players to avoid accidentally offloading their tools when transferring loot to their stash. They can also filter their Stash by Adventure type to aid in quickly grabbing the appropriate equipment for the job.

Daily Rewards got a small update, and there is a new Mystery Reward for those dutiful warriors who complete at least one Adventure a day for seven days in a row. The countdown timer for the Daily Rewards claim will be based on each character and when they started their quest. This means players can sync to their own schedules rather than the server’s schedule.

Player titles now have a rarity, which come in specific colors. Player profiles are accessible on the web where you can view a player’s current equipment and their skills.

Marketplace Updates

The Lost Relics marketplace is undergoing a number of changes. The biggest is that it will now run on Shadowstones. Shadowstones allow you to trade blockchain-based items at the Royal Emporium and players can purchase these with JENJ from the Enjin wallet. By the way, JENJ is the Jumpnet version of ENJ, which players can convert in the Enjin wallet. Both the Shadowstones and the marketplace changes will come online shortly after the latest update.

The Town Emporium has moved to a more central location. The patch notes also mention that sometimes things in the town may change in small ways and that players should keep an eye out for secrets that may come and go! Very intriguing!

The Emporium will now display an icon for the type of currency, as well as other details such as any trading fees.

Cash in your Stampede tokens

For anyone who is still hoarding Stampede tokens from the event two years ago, you will have one final chance to turn them in. Players can exchange six (6) tokens and claim ‘The Lost Stampeder’ a rare two-handed sword. This opportunity will only last for one week after the update. Once the deadline has passed, any unclaimed Stampeder swords become part of the general loot pool, and the remaining Stampede tokens will become collector’s items only!

The addition of Boss Monsters and fiat payments are still in development and expected to land sometime in the near future. The team is currently working on building a new patch to address some player issues that have come up with this latest update.

You can read all the details about this and other Lost Relics patches at https://lostrelics.io/updates and keep Play To Earn bookmarked to stay up on all of the latest blockchain gaming news!

Lost Relics has created an interesting solution to solve their gas fee issues on the Ethereum blockchain. They have created a custom solution that allows players to trade NFTs on Ethereum mainnet without paying any gas fees. It’s literally an in-game workaround.

Any dapp built on Ethereum needs to deal with high gas prices in recent months, also Lost Relics. The developers of Lost Relics were in the process of migrating the transfer process of NFTs to Enjin’s JumpNet. However, before they implemented their JumpNet fix, the lead developer decided to create an in-game solution instead.

In a Discord announcement posted in late April, the lead developer explained why he implemented the limitation of auto-transfers out of the game. He did this, because he wanted to prevent automatically approved, but very expensive gas prices. This would result in players spending hundreds of dollars to transfer one NFT. The developer explained that this freeze on auto-transfers was implemented to save people money, but it resulted in backlash from the community.

Not long after that post, a Medium post explains the reasoning behind launching an entirely new in-game solution to allow players to transfer out their items. As the developer explains, the core issue was that players were unable to trade NFTs with other players. But who wants to pay a $50 gas fee to transfer a $20 game item for Lost Relics?

A new NFT marketplace

Lost Relics now introduced an in-game fix which establishes a new marketplace in the Royal Emporium that holds mainnet NFTs. All of these NFTs can be traded with other players via a new token that is pegged 1:1 to JENJ (Enjin’s JumpNet representation of the ENJ token). Whenever requested, the system can send the new in-game token to the player’s wallet, where the player can trade however they wish.

Even though the solution seems like a smart move, this is not a permanent solution. As explained in the Medium post, “this temporary solution will allow Lost Relics to lift above the construction work and continue in a seamless fashion until the construction work below is more complete.”

The construction work in question is Enjin’s new blockchain Efinity, which has been designed to support next-generation tokens and NFTs. JumpNet, which launched on April 6th 2021, is a bridge network that allows for free and instant transactions.

While the gaming community eagerly awaits the launch of Efinity, not every Enjin-based project can stop development in the meantime. This new solution from Lost Relics creates a viable solution that allows players to trade NFTs without paying any gas fees.

Lost Relics will get cooperative and competitive multiplayer options in the near future. One-man game studio Cliff Cawley has revealed an extensive list of updates and additional content for his recently renamed dungeon crawler. Aside from multiplayer gameplay, there will be new skills and more different dungeons to the game. Cawley announced his plans in a recent live stream on Twitch.

Founder Token Holders of Lost Relics will be among the first to get access to the multiplayer mode. It will be 4 player co-op, and Cawley is looking at competitive player-versus-player modes as well. There will be a maximum of eight players in competitive modes. However, when this will happen, isn’t known yet. Other good news, pets will soon be able to attack enemies as well.

Another drastic change to the way the game works, is the fact that Adventure Stones will disappear. These stones were required to go on adventures and obtain blockchain items. However, Lost Relics has ditched these stones and instead allows everybody to farm blockchain items.

However, there’s a limitation of one blockchain item per adventure. Those who buy a membership through one of the Power Pendents are able to carry infinite blockchain items. In addition there will be for example trading benefits.

The game will get a whole lot more activities as well. Players will be able to level up their skills, which includes fishing, mining, scavenging, woodcutting, alchemy and engineering. Mining will also be available inside dungeons, while dungeons themselves change as well. There will be for example new themes and bigger areas with only one level. A detailed look on each of the announced changes, can be read on CastleCrypto.gg as well.
